Fried apple pie and Baked beans

Our family arrived Blue Ridge Barbecue at opening. The staff did not appear to be ready but took our order. When we tried to pay the card reader was not working and we had to pay in cash. Paying cash was not a real problem but I was just glad we had cash. When we got our food the corn dogs were still frozen in the center and the fried apple pies were doughy on the inside. The pulled pork was just ok and the baked beans looked like paste and and yesterday's leftovers. Ladies bathroom didn't have working paper towel dispenser. Very disappointing over all. We won't be back.

Brisket fat on the plate, edible meet on the left. Coleslaw, beans, salad.

Great food, reasonably priced and promptly served. Pulled chicken is fantastic, as is the fried okra and chips. Definitely will visit again!

We had the pulled chicken sandwich and smoked turkey salad. Both very good. Blue cheese dressing was excellent.

This is the only place in Polk County that I eat at regularly. They have some of the best BBQ in the area and it is a must do.

    Do they deliver?

No delivery except for catering orders I believe...they also have a food truck that travels to events all over the area.

This was my first trip to South Carolina and the first stop was Southern Manners - it did not disappoint! We had a huge group of ladies to celebrate our bride and the staff were all fabulous - big shout out to our cashier/server, Jaden! He was amazing and so accommodating with our 19 top. The ordering was as smooth as it could be and Jaden made sure to go around asking any questions he had about the orders. The food came out relatively quick considering how many people we had and I really appreciate the staff. The pricing was very reasonable and i would recommend if you're looking for a real home-y feeling restaurant with good food! In regards to ordering, we had special accommodations because we were a big group, but normal flow has customers ordering and paying when they walk in the door and then the food is brought to your table. It has a fast food vibe, but I didn't mind it! The line moved pretty quick while we were there. Can't wait to go back!

Many others who arrived after us were served before us. Even when we brought it to their attention, it took even longer. At the register, another customer was also complaining about the wait. So it seems that they lose some tickets while expediting others. Ambiance is waaay toooo loud! We will not return.

Of course, that is good for mountain tourists nearby who need the necessities because they have nothing, but I expected more. There was a good amount of southern/homestyle canned jams & jellies marketed to tourists visiting (which could be found at many gift shops in this part of the country), but none were necessarily local. We did pick out a peaches and pecans jam that ended up being awesome on freshly toasted sourdough though. We really wanted there to be more fresh vegetables, but it was slim pickings with just some scraps of not-so-great looking lettuce heads, carrots, and cucumbers. They did however have a nice deli in the far back with some interesting cheeses, as well as some options for pre-packaged and ready-to-eat meats/meals in the coolers adjacent to the deli case. The primary thing stocked here overall seems to be snack foods - of which, there is a good variety, but the shelves felt unnecessarily bare elsewhere and what was there was pretty generic. Service was OK, but from our experience getting cheese from the deli, it was evident that is not a typical request because it took awhile to square it all away. Overall, you'll be able to get some things to stock your pantry, but lowered expectations are necessary.

The exterior of Thompson's grocery store could be original, based on appearance, but the interior is like a state of the art modern grocery store. I went in there once to purchase bananas and the young woman, probably local from her genuinely friendly & helpful attitude, said that they did not have any bananas but the the Hardware Store down the street did have bananas. Don't you just love the small towns and their friendly ways...

I absolutely love these small town restaurants and couldn't wait to see what unique local favorites were on the menu - they certainly have all the traditional breakfast offerings along with Coca-Cola products, fresh coffee and plenty of sweet tea. The biscuits and gravy caught my eye as I scanned the laminated menu and after our drinks arrived it was decision time and I hadn't fully committed so our wonderful server gave us an additional few minutes. Okay there's no better way to experience the local flavor than ordering the homemade fare - 1/2 order of the homemade biscuits and gravy with a side of "Charlie's Spicy Sage Sausage" and a giant pancake with a side of crispy bacon. When my plate arrived I immediately knew I made the right choice, the light biscuit was fluffy with a crunchy bottom smothered in a delicious sausage gravy and the sage sausage was to die for it was definitely spicy but the hand formed patties is like nothing I've experienced before. Whoever the hell Charlie is he should be extremely proud of his creation it's exceptional and of very high quality. The pancake was perfectly executed as well and one pancake is a large portion so if you order more than one you better be extremely hungry - it light and fluffy and stands tall on the plate, add lots of syrup and real butter and it's something worth bragging about. The staff here are happy people and it shows they take pride in what they do, besides the food being absolutely delicious it's very reasonably priced. This little diner like atmosphere is beautiful and I feel lucky to have found it, it certainly could be a destination...
