I'm sure this place is probably breaking some sort of health codes. But it's a podunk diner off the highway, so isn't that what you come to love and expect? I've eaten here a few times, so it's good enough to at least come back to. I'd rather pop into a local place than go get some commercial Denny's or whatever. The french toast, as well as the country fried steak, are on point. But I didn't really care for the sausage gravy and biscuits. Scrapple isn't for everyone, but I will say that they make a palatable version of it. The last time I was here I got a chicken philly and it was pretty good as well, so they seem to do a good job at balancing both breakfast and lunch/dinner stuff pretty seamlessly. The wait staff is nice enough and are pretty attentive. I think the only real issue about this place is just that it's diner food. You either like it or you don't. Like many reviews, found this place to have a very dirty feeling and look to it. Came here for breakfast with my husband on a Saturday. We were seated right away and then told to give our waitress a few minutes. Well, I'd say 10 minutes later she showed up and she wasn't too friendly. Took our drink orders and then immediately asked about food orders (we had plenty of time to decide so, we were ready). Order the basic eggs, bacon, and toast and also French Toast. I would rank the food quality lower than an IHOP! Syrup was in a plastic squeeze that was just sitting out on the table and I'm pretty sure the fly buzzing around us was all hyped up off the sugary syrup bottle. I have lived here for a little over 11 years, and so every "few" years I have to go into this place to see if anything has changed. So I visited today for the 3rd time and it's sad to say that nothing has changed. The coffee and "fresh" fruit tasted rather dusty. No amount of cream or sugar was saving that abomination. They gain a 2nd star for the speed of service, yet while fast, the staff was quite short on the attitude spectrum. No friendliness what so ever. The food. I ordered a vegetable omelet made with egg whites. Waitress asked if I wanted cheese in my omelet, so of I course I made the assumption it was a shredded cheddar or something edible with an omelet. Nope. What showed up was sauteed vege's mixed in with burnt egg whites on a bed of nacho cheese. Couple that with the aforementioned dusty coffee, and fruit that tasted like it's been in the can longer than I've lived in the state, and you have a very tasty if not downright OLD meal. The booths are held together with ducktape, the silverware has the look and feel being bought in the 70's, and the pies in the case look as though they were bought in the 70's as well. Was excited to stop here after a weekend of camping. The food overall, was fine. Nothing special. However, the one star rating is due to the bugs we found in our salt shaker on our table. Unfortunately, we didn't discover them until the end of the meal after each of us at the table had used the salt. When we presented the salt shaker to hostess at the front while we were paying, I was surprised by her lack of concern. She responded, "eww, that's gross." And proceeded to check us out. I really like Mountain View. I would give it 3 1/2 stars, but I'll bump it up to a 4 since Yelp won't allow it. It's not the best diner I've ever been to, but it's good for Frederick. I've never gone there for dinner, but the specials on the board always sound pretty yummy. We go for breakfast about once a month. I usually get their lite breakfast (because a diner is the place to go when you want to eat healthy, right?). It's listed as a "special", but it's always on their menu: Two scrambled egg beaters, turkey sausage links, a side of fruit and wheat toast (I usually substitute grits and remove the ice cream scoop of "butter" before it melts all the way down). Then I oink out on a plate of French toast that I split with my boyfriend. Their French toast is really good and the syrup is served in an enormous ketchup-style bottle. I like their omelets...They're so big; I swear they use an entire carton of eggs for one. The only thing I don't like is that the vegetables in them are super chunky and never get cooked quite all the way through (nothing grosser than eating raw onions first thing in the morning). Their breakfast potatoes are pretty good; not too thick so the outside layer sticks together with the caramelized onions and gets really crispy...I love that. I got their sausage gravy and biscuits one morning and I was really disappointed. The gravy was really pasty and there wasn't much flavor at all. I had to salt and pepper the heck out of it (something I never do) just to give it some flavor. I posted the picture on Facebook and got some pretty negative "Yuck, I can't believe you ate that" comments from my friends. The atmosphere is typical diner and it's clean. The wait staff are really nice and efficient. We've never had to wait for a table, but then again there's usually only the two of us and they have quite a few tiny two-person booths that you can cram into. It was very busy and accidents happen) I called the restaurant and the manager Mike apologized and said he would make it right. Stopped in for lunch and had broiled pork chop and salad. Broiled Pork chops are thick and very good. I always ask for Francis. She is always cheerful and is a excellent server, I never have to ask for a drink refill or extra napkins, she's on it. She is very good at suggestive selling and desserts are hard to pass up. The red velvet cheese cake is absolutely awesome! Everyone is nice there. I really like when they decorate the place. I think the MVD is the "to go" place for people in Frederick. Service was decent (not great) - a small wait but considering I was there during a notoriously slow period for most restaurants, I didn't mind that. I ordered the beef pie (whoops, by the description I thought it was going to be like shepherd's pie, but it was like an enclosed chicken pot pie, but beef). It was utterly bland. I have been here multiple times for breakfast due to the value of the kids pancakes and French toast coming with a drink.We have eaten multiple times at different times of day. I like that the servers have been here for years and know our family. The food is all around good consistent quality. We have never been displeased. I would rather go here than a restaurant. Yes, the place is older in appearance but that is because it has been here so long. Today is the first day I tried one of their salads and OMG it was beautiful, big and delicious. Good Morning I wanted to write to you in an email instead of posting it on social media for the main fact that my family and I love coming here. Unfortunately on Sunday we had a terrible experience there and it has made us question going back. We arrived around 8:50am and got seated pretty quickly and that when it went down hill. It took a good 10mins or so for someone to come get our drink order. We ordered drinks and asked for a lunch menu as well. The drinks came back with no lunch menu so the waitress said no lunch menu yet I thought someone dropped it off. So we finally get our menu and we have been seated for 15-20mins by now and we order my 4yr olds breakfast first and waited a few mins before we ordered ours. They bring hers out and we order 2 cold sandwiches (super club & sliced turkey sandwhich). We ordered them by number and waited. Our food came out at 9:50am which is absurd for cold sandwiches to wait almost an hour. We had to ask atleast once what was going on and by the time we got our food our daughter was done and ready to go. Also my wife's sandwhich was wrong they did not do it as a triple decker like she ordered and she told them we had to go as we had plans and didn't have time to wait. I took mine home and ate it later after munching on a few cold fries at the table because I saw mine sitting in the kitchen for a while. As the waitress came back with a box and bag she had an attitude and threw the bag on the table. As we go to pay we let the lady know about our visit and she was shocked. She asked did the manager come over we said no. She said that she would get the manager she's behind you. The lady she pointed at is actually who we asked what the deal was with our food so she already knew the issues we had and other than take my fiancee's food did & said nothing like it was not a big deal. I've worked in customer service for 15yrs now and both the manager and waitress acted terrible in this situation and has made us feel like maybe we should seek other options with our family for weekend breakfast/lunch. I figured you would like to hear this but like I said we do usually love coming here and did not want to just go bash on social media because we are loyal customers. This is what I sent them a week or two ago on messenger. After a few days I wrote them back telling them they obviously could care less about their customers. Finally received an answer from someone saying they take care of there Facebook page and will relay the message. I messaged them again days later letting them know I still have not heard from anyone and now no answer. Pretty obvious they could care less about there customers! Very sad because we liked this place most of our visits but don't see how we could go back to them or how I could ever recommend them either. read more

My wife and I eat at Mountain View at least once a week. We look their food, the portions are generous to say the least. Home mad cakes & cheese cakes are wonderful - take them home to eater later (hint). I've been a something of a regular, dining there at least once a month, and ordering takeout that frequently during the pandemic. Last week I wasn't very hungry so I ordered a large, chef-style salad. When I got home I realized that the cost was a dollar (plus tax) more than what was on their printed menu. I also recalled that I had seen the cashier remove the check and throw it away as I was paying for the order. As near as I can tell I believe they charged me an extra dollar for the salad dressing and threw the check away in hopes I wouldn't notice it. I am very disappointed. What kind of a restaurant serves an undressed salad and then charges extra for dressing? I I had known it was an extra-cost option I would have ordered an undressed salad and added the dressing myself at home. read more

This is one of my favorite placese to eat these days. I've never had to wait longer then a few min. to be seated. Food is always hot and taste wonderful. Absolutely love the chicken and rice soup. They also serve breakfast all day long, and the food prices are very reasonable especially for the amount you receive. The staff is always nice and very caring. The entire tables food always comes out at the same time unless the customer requests otherwise. Overall rating for service and this location is 4 stars. The thing that results in () a lower rating is the condition of the restrooms at this location. Restrooms are pretty run down, need new doors, locks, etc... 2017, new menu with some cheaper and some higher prices. Haven't been here in a year, used to come once a month. The food seems better, the prices lower ($9-10) for the basic fare, but the wait for food is longer. A good change in my opinion. The wait staff gets drinks for all tables, which improves service, especially since their beverage glasses got unfortunately smaller (waitstaff must hate new small cups). A good diner that has thankfully gone back to regular size meals instead of double the price and double the quantity you want. Went for weekend dinner. There are many things to like about the Mountain View. Its a very welcoming place with good service and a huge menu, where folks of all ages gather for a quick...or leisurely......meal, any time of the day or evening. That's one of the things I like best about the place. Here you'll find everyone from groups of teens to older folks, and everyone in between, enjoying a meal, at fair prices. I also understand its locally owned...another plus, in my book. My favorite is the shrimp salad served in any number of ways...all delicious. My friends love the Greek dishes, too. And desserts! Delicious, and made in house! .........After breakfast, lunch, or after a movie with friends. A local treasure on Route 40. HOWEVER, my biggest complaint about the Diner is the cause of my deducting TWO stars from the review. Its the EGGS, the hard boiled EGGS served on salads. . Every time I go in to enjoy a salad, I wonder how a diner, which must serve hundreds and hundreds of EGGS a week, can serve hard boiled eggs with yolks that are olive green and watery looking.....the telltale sign of old eggs .....IMHO. If they are using fresh eggs, then someone needs to read up on how to cook hardboiled eggs, and make some changes here. We leave them uneaten on the side of the plate...a subtle message to the kitchen that they're horrible, but this has gone unnoticed. Otherwise, A-OK, and honestly, the place has never struck me as dirty or unclean, as many other reviewers are reporting. I used to enjoy this diner as a local greasy-spoon breakfast place until a few years ago when I was there with my family and had a dead roach in my French onion soup. I had already eaten half before I pulled it up on my spoon. This was the single most horrifying dining experience of my life. We got up immediately and left. I told the staff on the way out and they didn't even apologize. I've never been back and have never ordered onion soup anywhere since. In retrospect, the diner always had fruit flies and wasn't the cleanest place. I wouldn't recommend this place. Frederick has so many other (cleaner/safer) dining options. read more
