From the beginning of our journey, Murphy and Sons were phenomenal. I need to stress that the venue (Mountain View Mausoleum in Altadena) that Murphy & Sons had access to is probably what really sold me. It felt like some church that you would run across in Europe. Normally I don't give reviews on yelp but I had the need to inform others in the same situation I was in. This place is excellent with everything in the most difficult moments and adversaries. Just trust them and the process. They will do everything possible for your family in these hard moments and Pandemic times. You just have to be patient. I found this Funeral home looking around for hours after the Cemetery advised to look elsewhere because they didn't have availability in theirs after mid-March. My father passed away Jan 4th. The process was painful. I had no idea on what to do after calling various Funeral homes found this one. Edward Murphy was so helpful and comforting in my dark painful moments trying to understand something completely new to me (arranging my fathers services). Edward was so reassuring, calmed and detailed on the process if I went with their services. He explained to me that their services would all depend on the Cemeteries availability and it was going to be further weeks out. I wanted to get it done as soon as possible. Spoke to my siblings and decided to use Murphy and Sons. Once I agreed to them Jonathan Murphy took over the process. I can't say enough how grateful I am with both of them because they made the process a little less painful. Jonathan kept me informed on everything step by step. I understood it was going to be an agonizing process because I did not only have to deal with the fact my father passed but the hospital made it more difficult to release the body. I knew this because I also called to see what was the hold up. I knew everything that was going on in all its entire process because Jonathan kept me informed. I also understood that I was dealing with funeral arrangements during a PANDEMIC. The Murphy's did everything in their reach to help, but could only do so much. It took weeks to get him to them. I knew this because they kept me informed. I'm an inpatient person so knowing what was going on helped me cope with this. I wanted to put my fathers body to rest ASAP. I can't thank Jonathan enough for being that advocate my fathers body had in its moment. Once it was time to get his body from the hospital they asked me to provide a picture of my fathers to assure it was his body they would claim. I asked if I could see the body but was told politely that would not be able to do to the circumstances. Not once did I doubt the Murphy's judgment on what was right for my father. I provided everything they needed for my fathers service presentation. Murphy and Sons Funeral home is a place that genuinely treated my family and I with compassion and respect. It's a family owned business and I truly felt like I was part of their family in that moment. Services came and it was private and nice just like we hopped. My father looked good. They did very good my father looked like if he was sleeping. Murphy and Sons staff was so accommodating in everything possible from beginning to end. I would highly recommend them to anyone I know. I recently lost my father in this pandemic. Did'nt know where to start. I called many funeral homes most of them were no longer accepting new families others would only go by appointments which were far out. I then called Murphy and Sons and was very fortunate to talk to Jonathan he was very patient with me having to explain what had happened with my father and how desperate I was looking for a safe and secured place for my loved one. Jonathan was able to see my sister and I the following day and he walked us through the whole process since this was are first time going through this. Both of my geriatric parents passed away at their assisted living home within a month of each other and I was not prepared for the "final" arrangements. We owned a plot for burial, but that was about it. I started calling the big funeral homes. Every one of them dialed through to a call center where they were respectful, seemingly caring and as expensive as I thought they would be. None of them could answer all my questions and all gave me the message that if I hired them I would be assigned someone later I could ask questions of. As the end drew near for my mother, the hospice nurse informed me I needed to hire a mortuary within hours or my mother could be left unattended and almost abandoned should she pass before I hired a funeral home. The nurse, having worked with them before, suggested I call Murphy & Sons Funeral Home. Her experience with them had always been trouble free. I was told Murphy and Sons was responsive, patient and much lower in cost than the big funeral homes I had canvassed. I called Murphy & Sons. Edward, as in Edward Murphy, answered. There was no call center, no pretense, no lack of real sincerity and concern. Best of all, Edward was willing to answer in detail every question I asked. Edward's gentle demeanor and articulation made all the difference. Compared to the four other funeral homes I had called, there was no comparison. Edward seemingly offered me every convenience in setting up a meeting after I had decided he was the person to help my family. Edward was willing, without hesitation or added cost, to meet with me almost immediately and at any location including my home, even though I lived an hours' drive away for him. I chose to meet him the following day, a Sunday, at his office to sign the paperwork. On that initial phone call, Edward accepted my verbal authorization to proceed. Within minutes, the hospice nurse contacted me to confirm all the necessary arrangements were set and after my mother's passing Murphy & Sons would be there to receive her quickly with dignity. On top of my incredibly comforting first meeting with Edward, Murphy & Sons lived up to everything I was told by them to expect. The timing, the process, their competent reliability, they lived up to it all. And Murphy & Sons cost a third less than all the big funeral homes quoted. My father surprised us by suddenly passing away a month after my mother. Thanks to Edward and Murphy & Sons, the process was again completely without complications or worry. There was never an institutional feeling when working with Edward and his brother, Jonathon.
