After seeing all the reviews of the Mountainview Station Restaurant we decided to try it. We went on a Saturday night and had a 30 minute wait for a table. Once seated, the waitress was prompt, took our order, and brought us our drinks. The food arrived quickly and was very good. We had the steak tips and the fish and chips. The steak tips were much better than one of the expensive restaurants we have gone to in the area. The food was a good value for the money. The only draw back, is the restaurant is pretty small, and the level of noise was up there from a couple of large groups. read more

My wife and I have been going to Mountain view since it opened years ago, and have had consistently good experiences. Food is very, very plentiful, tasty, well prepared, very reasonably priced, and promptly served by attentive staff. It's an authentic retired railway station with lots of charm, but be warned that the restrooms are aging with it. It's a very well regarded lunch and dinner spot among the locals, who consider Chrissy's place their favorite go-to, and strangers come back! The beyond-generous seafood dishes are among their favorite fares. My favorites are the friend smelts, fried oysters, fried mushrooms, fried scallops, fried clams, and fried anything! I'm a big eater and always ask for half portions, which they gladly prepare off-menu without hesitation. Even the half portions are generous. Hot sandwiches are fantastic. Chrissy is very inventive and frequently has a wonderful special that she cooks up. Everything on the menu is a good bet. Big selection of local micro brews and other popular beers. Wine too. My husband and I stopped in there on a Sunday evening. We were greeted promptly and seated in a nice corner table. My husband ordered the fried scallops and I had the lemon pepper swordfish which was a nightly special. The scallops were very large and cooked to perfection, juicy and tender. My swordfish was delicious and were accompanied with the roasted red potatoes and baby carrots. We both loved our meals and the portions were large. The restaurant is railroad themed and decorated with railroad signs, laterns and lights. The wait staff was attentive and pleasant. This place is a hidden gem. All fried seafoods (combo) smell like disgusting very old and used oil. I think they haven't changed their frying pot oil ever since 1875! It's unreasonably expensive. After 3 hrs we all feel sick. Don't waste your time and money here. read more

We live practically a stone's throw away from Mountain View and have eaten there periodically---both inside and take out. Sadly, we will NOT be going back again. We ordered take out last evening and were gob smacked when our portions of shrimp were approximately half the size they had ALWAYS been, but the price was still the same. We were hungry after eating and very disgusted; with a tight budget eating out is a rare treat, and we had no reason to think we would not get a good meal as we had in the past. Regrettably, the quality of the seafood they are now serving has gone way down compared to what we had there several years ago. Clams have been so rubbery you couldn't chew them, and the shrimp were miniscule, disguised in a ridiculously thick batter. We were sick to have spent so much money for what amounted to an appetizer, and we were quite hungry. My husband went back and very calmly and politely complained to the manager/owner. His attitude was 'so what, too bad'. They were arrogant and rude and obviously didn't care about customer good-will or repeat business. As long-time residents we try whenever possible to support all local businesses but now WE WILL NEVER GO TO THIS RESTAURANT AGAIN. We will now drive over the border into Cornish Maine to BAY HAVEN LOBSTER POUND RESTAURANT, even if it is not as conveniently close. ---We've all seen this gambit in supermarkets, etc. over the last few years---Prices for items is the same, but the quantity in packages is markedly reduced! (Just look at toilet paper, sugar, for example). YOU NO LONGER GET VALUE FOR DOLLARS AT THIS RESTAURANT, AND WE DON'T LIKE THEIR GAMES OR THEIR ATTITUDE EITHER. We have been happy that when we want a treat, we can get excellent seafood etc. and value for dollar at BAY HAVEN, so when we can have a nice meal out, that is where we now go. We would never recommend Mountain View Station restaurant to anyone. We would be embarrassed to do so! Do yourself a favor and take your hard earned pennies elsewhere. read more

Moved up here 4 years ago & to dine on seafood, we were traveling 120 miles roundtrip. The seafood at Mountain View Station was so delicious. Get a load of this seafood combo: large/fresh ocean-y AND deveined shrimp were in this chewy yet crisp solid batter...shrimp perfection! Whole tender clams were in a lighter batter that suited them perfectly. Scallops were, as Mom said "Tastes like I remember scallops tasting"...looking all happy & satisfied. Scallops are indeed very fresh & succulent. Haddock...oh the haddock: thick battered slabs which have those large flakes of mild tasty white deliciousness...when the fork separates for that 1st bite (ahhh & mmmm) that was just a little too mind blowing. Had same thing, about 3+ decades ago. Waited patiently, huh? Everything we have tried has been mighty fine. The onions inside another great batter, are timed perfectly so they have a slight crisp sweetness. We have also had an appetizer combo & yes, all good as well. Chicken fingers are so moist. Mushrooms, yes, divine. These people have really mastered the batters...not an easy task in our kitchen & majority of restaurants. Turkey club, do it. Generous amount of fresh roasted turkey (were told they roast some each day & it tasted exactly like a holiday breast) & quality bacon cooked slightly crispy...lettuce & tomato all fresh. Portions are generous. Friendly & hard working server has been spot on regarding quantity to order for...lol, our body sizes maybe. Oh well, she has been correct each time so that is an extra insightful service offered. I feel like these places that are operated like businesses used to, with pride, are going to be just hearsay soon. We are looking forward to checking out numerous other menu items & we rarely check out numerous menu items. Ya know, hopefully find one thing on a menu that is tolerable seems to be more often than not. This restaurant has been a great find. Service has been nothing but helpful & friendly each visit (bewildered by other reviewers stating otherwise). Wish I had another slab of haddock now...oh, 2 adults split a seafood combo almost 9 hours ago & I am, just now, jonesing for more food. True story. read more

Good value and food compared to more expensive places closer to Conway. Inside is much nicer than one would expect pulling into the small parking lot. We had the chicken cranberry walnut salad on a croissant and the fried haddock sandwich. The chicken salad could have used a little more seasoning, but was fresh. As was the fish, which had a nice light batter. Both came with two sides....way more than we needed. Roasted red potatoes were great. Green beans were overdone to our taste, but we like our vegetables less cooked. Service was friendly. Would definitely recommend for lunch. Dinners on the menu looked good too. read more

I took my family there today.i was very disappointed with the meals . My daughter had the baked haddock you could smell the fish and it didn't taste that great. ! Had the Steak tips with clams..the tips were chewy and the clams were soggy I'm from Ipswich I do know clams .not sure what's going on there.but I'm not feeling the love. $128 I'll never see again. read more

What an adorable, local little eatery. This use to be an old train station, but was converted into a cozy local restaurant. It had a quaint charm showcasing its history, as well as a small town chill vibe that I really enjoyed. This had an appropriate size menu, considering the kind of place it was. I was with 4 different people, who all ordered something different. Our appetizer consisted of a fried appetizer sampler. It tasted fine, but was slightly over oily. Loved the fried mushrooms! Everyone loved their main entree. I ordered a simple cheeseburger with fries and was really surprised how juicy my burger was. The fries were cooked just right, as well. Everyone around the table echoed the same responses about their meal as well. Would love to come back for lunch again! read more

Perhaps overhyped? After reading all the reviews for this place, decided to make the visit. Location: about a mile off route 16, located on main street. The actual restaurant is fairly small with 12 tables of varying sizes. Menu: onion rings app. pricey but outstanding. Yummy home made rings . Woofed them down in no time, commented on how there is no grease/oily film on plate. The way good rings should be. Main course: decided on scallops and clams. Both were "ok". Scallops didnt seem to be fully cooked and lacked sweetness but they were good size. Clams were average. Wife picked one and found shell pieces while biting into it. Portions of both were generous. Tartar sauce was plain, but fries were good. Wait staff: staff was nice, checked in often and kept an eye on all the tables. Pricing was more than fair, most seafood had small or large options with plenty of options for sides. Summary: I guess we got caught up in the good ratings and might have expected too much. The rings were great and the meal was not. I left there thinking "it just wasn't good". read more

As someone else mentioned, a hidden Gem. We heard very good things about this one and thought we give it a try. There was 4 of us for dinner and was seated right away. The best waitress around is working here. She was friendly, took our orders and checked on us many times throughout our dinner. Every dish came out perfect! Cooked just right and seasoned perfectly. This is one place we will be going back to again. I had the fried seafood dinner and finally a place that did not cook it until it was rubbery. Couldn't have asked for a better meal. As locals, we had never been here. Friends have been telling us to go there for some time. Had a out of town guest, and had lunch there today. There was only a couple of tables taken when we got there just after opening, but the place filled up fast. And we could see why. The food is excellent! We had the Turkey Wrap, Chicken Corden Bleu sandwich, and the "Harvey". Also had an appetizer of the onion rings that are legendary, and they live up to it. Our server, Kim, was perfect as well. I was disappointed with my overall experience here tonight. Atmosphere is fine. All 4 specials were seafood. The onion soup had no flavor to it and consisted of a lot of croutons and barely any onions. The meatloaf dinner was not good. It was very bland and the green beans were overcooked. Very cute train-themed restaurant located in a quaint little village. The restaurant is comfy and cozy with friendly staff. The menu has a variety of offerings- something for everyone. My husband had a turkey wrap with cranberries and spinach, which he liked. I ordered the chicken, bacon & cheddar wrap. It was tasty, but it came with fried chicken breast that was chopped up. I probably missed that detail on the menu, because I was expecting either a sliced chicken or cubed chicken like in a chicken salad. But still tasty and very filling. I couldn't even eat half of it. On a previous visit I had the small plate of fried oysters. It is hard to find those on a menu. They were delicious and hit the spot for a yearly treat. read more

Stopped in for the 2nd time-on Dec 23rd, 2017 since we had enjoyed it so much the one and only time we had eaten there previously. The weather was snowy, we were hungry and wanted to go out somewhere "close", and decided to go to Mountainview Station. We were not disappointed! The Reuben we had the previous time was what drew us back, but it was no longer on the menu. Our waitress suggested the Harvey since it's very close to a Reuben and we both ordered one. A couple minutes later she returned to our table with our drinks and asked if we minded waiting a couple minutes longer than it would usually take to get our food since they hadn't realized they were low on pastrami; the cook was going to the store to buy some!!!! We were in no hurry, just wanted to relax and said that would be fine. Within 3 minutes our waitress was back at our table with a complementary huge order of piping hot, crisp golden onion rings! Honestly, we were in awe. Felt like we were being treated as though we were royalty or family! Our order was ready in the same amount of time as most restaurants take to table an order, but the chef had run to the store to get what he needed to fill our order!! Everything was perfect! To top it off the waitress gave us a mini sweetbread she had made as a gift! Still in awe!! read more

This was my first time at the Mountainview Station, and it won't be my last. Service was fast and friendly, and they had some delicious local beers on tap. I had the Harvey sandwich with onion rings (I just drooled a little while typing that), the description sounded good, but the taste was so much more than the sum of it's parts. This place is a really nice place to go. It's open for breakfast (finishes at 11am), lunch and dinner. Their specialty is seafood, and my Mum reckons they have the best fish and chips she's ever tried - and she's quite the connoissieur of them! I presonally think their wraps are excellent - they have a very good buffalo chicken wrap and my husband loves their harvey sandwich. I have eaten at Mountain View Station many times but never did take out until this week. With an $18 scallop meal were only 11 fries. Was told that the chic. parm was over linguini--it was spaghetti. No rolls and very small portions for a $43 bill. Maybe they ran out of food but my family was disappointed when I got home with the order. read more

We visited 8/7/14 with a party of eight, for our first time here. Luckily they do take reservations for 6 or more, as it was quite busy when we arrived at 7:00. They finished setting the table and sat us within 5 minutes. Our server was stellar, and I do not use that word lightly. She was handling our group as well as several others, yet somehow was always available when needed. There was no wait to order, to refill beverages or get the check. The food was quite good overall. From the specials board it looked like they have a seafood focus. But the menu offers many different tastes and plates, so there is likely something for everyone. I was not too hungry so I ordered a Turkey Club sandwich, rather than one of the entrees. The funny thing was that my club was huge! It was delicious, and could probably satisfy two people. The other three adults and all the kids enjoyed their meals. We will definitely return next summer. read more

My wife and I stopped in , on a recommendation from a local. We were in the mood for seafood, and this place didn't disappoint. The Mrs got a seafood combo, that had haddock, clams, huge scallops, and shrimp, done in a light batter, and delicious. It was priced at $20.99. She opted for the orings instead of fries at a $1.49 upcharge. She loved it, (happy for that, it was our 30th anniversary that day) and she couldn't finish it. I got the fish and chips , perfect. I think it was cod or haddock, not sure, just delicious. It was $11.99 and worth it.
