It was time to get my timing belt done. I was 109k and knew it could go at anytime. Before committing to Mouse Meat, I looked at other places in/around Lakewood that serviced VW's. ROLFS had okay reviews. I'm no professional mechanic. But, I know how to do the simple stuff and can figure out how to do more complex jobs. But this guy really made me feel like I had no idea what was involved. At the time, I had told him that I already had my water pump changed since it already exploded on me about a year ago. He still told me they won't do the job unless they replace the water pump. This made me venture into Mouse Meat. I had to see if these guys would tell me the same thing and make me feel dumb. Upon walking in, I was greeted by a smile and a hello. Already off to a good start. I told them what I needed done and they told me a few different prices depending on what may or may not be needed. Like for instance, my water pump being new, they wouldn't touch it. They let me walk around in the garage area and look at them work on Audi that was getting its belt done. That was when I met Earl. Earl really talks to you as if you were an enthusiast like himself. It was really refreshing. He doesn't put up a shop owner personality and just speaks to you like a normal person with a shared interest. I was sold. I set up an appointment. When I dropped the car off I expected it to take most of the day. So, I had a friend pick me up and we went on with our day. About 4hrs after dropping the car off, I get a call saying it is ready for pick up. I'm in disbelief as this moment cause Too Quick's told me it would take roughly 6.5hrs. And Mouse Meat did it in 4. To my surprise, when I got back to the shop. I see my car parked outside. The whole crew inside is laughing and joking around. Earl dropped another surprise on me. The total cost came out under what I was originally quoted for. Most shops would stick to the original quoted price and here Earl tells me it comes out cheaper because some things didn't need to be replaced or anything. After paying, he took me into the garage and showed me the parts removed and explained how the belts wear down. I asked him about some other work I wanted done, suspension work. When I told him what brand of coilovers I had already gotten Earl showed me the differences with good suspension by letting me ride in 2 of his personal vehicles. I'm glad he did, feeling the difference as opposed as it being told to you is a world difference. What other shop would do that? None. I learned a lot. They are the nicest people you can ever do business with. They speak to you like a normal person, regardless of you knowledge on cars or VW/Audi's. If you don't understand, they have no problem breaking it down into simple terms. They are upfront and honest with everything. They don't sell you or try anything shady to get more $ from you. I'm definitely going to return back to Mouse Meat for future work. Will recommend them to friends/family that may need work done on their cars. read more

I can honestly say after the trouble I have had with Mouse Meat I will never be going there again. My first experience was having my car towed there, stressful to begin with then I met Earl. The entire time I was talking to him and asking questions I felt as if he was trying to make me feel inferior and stupid. Maybe I was just stressed. He had an employee look at my car and priced out the parts I would need and labor costs. When I came for pickup the price was $136.00 over what was priced the day before. He gave me some excuse that it took longer than expected. The mechanic that actually worked on my car was very knowledgeable and was very kind to show me my parts and explain the process and how it went wrong to begin with. I believe Bugley was his name. If it wasn't for him I would never have given the shop a second chance. The second time I was put off for days by Earl and when I would call on progress he would make me feel like I was annoying him. I would get promised return calls and never once did I get one. Then he was rude and rushing me to come pick the car up by 6 when I was at work and the car was supposed to be done 4 days prior!! I have had to bring my beetle in for a couple things now and each time they are super professional and friendly, and truly honest. The first time I had to bring it in I had a coolant issue. I brought my car into Larson Volkswagen and they had my car for several hours and concluded that I needed a new water pump and timing belt and wanted to charge me 1200+ dollars. I wanted a second opinion and found Mouse Meat Inc. They found the REAL problem in less than 5 minutes and repaired it for less than 100 dollars. The second time my dash display quit working after I replaced the battery. They found that it was just a popped fuse, and did not charge me for the issue. Coming from a military family, I have lived all over this country and have not found a better mechanic. Even though I live across the narrows, I'll always bring my car to them. Mouse Meat is a great shop. If you own a German car don't pass this place up. Went in with with my 08 Audi Q7 because I had a strange misfire and a crazy bad oil leak. Earl the owner was extremely helpful and upfront about exactly what was going on with the oil leak. The misfire was a bit of a tough one to track down but he was determined and didn't just throw parts at my car without being sure what needed to be replaced. They were able to fix my one misfire and then another one came up on a different cylinder, totally unrelated. They didn't rip me off at all, in fact they spent more shop time on my Q7 than they even charged me for. Will absolutely be returning to take care of a few other quirks with my Q7 ! read more

I have never gave a review before but Earl at mouse meat inc is worth writing a review for. I bought a vw Westphalia van on ebay in Washington. I live in California. The seller had taken the van to Earl to get a fuel line repaired. I was questioning the seller about the condition of the van due to it being 36 years old. He told me it was in the shop and that if I had questions he would give me the number to the shop that was working on it. So I called Earl. Earl is straight forward and honest. These guys are awesome and saved my bacon! Got a new beetle that was running rough for my daughter, thought it just needed a tune as it'd been sitting a while. 1st garage tried a few things with no luck, and gave it back to me. Then took it to a VW 'specialist' in west seattle. They had it a day and told me it had a bad cam and lifters and would need a new motor, quoting me $4000, I towed it home after they charged me $600. A friend referred me to MMI and I towed it down there. They had it for about an hour and called to tell me it was ready. Thing runs like it's new and charged me $100! I took my Passat into this fine establishment to have them fix a lower control arm and O2 sensor. They informed me that the last service did a bad job took pictures for me and rectified the problem. The atmosphere is very relaxed and the guys at Mouse Meat are straight forward and honest about what is going on. I picked up my car and it has never driven so well. I took my MK4 VW to Mouse Meat because the car wouldn't start in my garage. They were able to start it the day it was dropped off. They were never able to figure out why it wouldn't start that morning in my garage. After being in their shop for 2 days and taking a few of my phone calls... Mouse Meat charged me $0. These guys know there stuff, they were able to point me in the right direction about what was wrong with my car over the phone and the mystery glow plug issue I have had on my 1998 VW Jetta TDI is now no more. On the other hand Too Quicks really pissed me off when I was going to have them look at my other vw and they kept having to rescedule me over and over again before I finally got fed up and took it to Mouse Meat. I've had a Superbeetle, Dasher and two Jettas over the last 40+ years. Lived in 5 states, and know you can go to a dealer for repairs they won't stand behind and pay thru the nose, or get really lucky and find a GOOD VW mechanic. I had a great experience with these guys. They worked on my 1976 Porsche 914. Replaced the clutch, stopped my oil leaks, fixed my headlights all for half of what other shops wanted. Terrible lack of integrity and shody work. I sued them after the ruined my VW BUS engine and brakes. I won, get in line. The looser hides all of his assets and I am 14 in line to collect.
