I have to join the chorus of phenomenal reviews for Ball Auto Sales and Service. I'm a new customer, and they probably saved me about $400 dollars over dealership price on my car's 50,000 mile checkup. There's a great cafe across the street, and they were done within two hours of dropoff. Did exactly what I asked for, told me I didn't need the things the dealership has warned me are "catastrophic" not to attend to immediately, and charged a great price. Family member had to emergency drop off car as a serious condition made it unsafe to drive. This just happened 10/9/25. They left message on what happened. Called next day to communicate. Multiple days went by, still haven't looked at it. Family member had to rent a car during this time. On 10/18/25 Ball Repair finally looked at it. After having the car 8 days, they said they can't fix it. They don't have the time. It took them 8 days to say they CANNOT fix it! So 10/20/25 I go down to make arrangements to get it towed to another repair shop. AAA had to get special approval to tow from one repair shop to another. Not a common practice. Which means more time on the phone to get sorted out. My family member could not have made this arrangement as they were working and this process took a half hour. (Ball had suggested a shop, drove by and looked like a chop shop.) Needless to say we're livid! The tow company AAA said it took 8 days to say they couldn't fix it? Unbelievable I know. Then he explained he was the only person working and who would do the repair at Ball is separate, in other words not connected. So car is now at an AAA repair shop. They were happy to take it, and we had an answer the next day what is wrong. Broken axle and they have to order the part. Which means even more time without our car. If only Ball had said from the beginning they couldn't work on it. We could have been able to get it repaired faster. So after finding out cost and 12 days of a rental car, we gave our family member our vehicle to use for the rest of the duration of waiting for parts to arrive so it can be repaired properly. Ball should have said from the beginning they can't do it. Renting a car isn't cheap and now extra financial burden. I will tell this experience to anyone who will listen and they did and said they won't be going back there. They are the ones who recommend Ball to us years ago. read more

Came here to get work done on my brakes and was blown away with service, speed, and price. As a young female, I appreciated them not taking advantage of me. They said they were able to salvage my brake pads and only needed to replace my front rotors. before coming here, i went elsewhere and they tried telling me i needed front and back brake pads and rotors replaced. Dropped our vehicle off for an oil change, tire rotation, & to have them take a look at the brakes before a rather long driving trip for work. Service was fast, the employee was very kind, and I just had an overall good feeling about his work & advice. (Auto repair doesn't ALWAYS inspire confidence.) Ha! They also have some really awesome antiques! I loved seeing the old cash register they have in the office- totally reminded me of my grandparent's grocery store. :-) Leaving Tacoma for now (was only here for a 6-month work contract), but would totally recommend for anyone looking for reliable & inexpensive vehicle service! I have been coming here for many years and even after we moved to Gig Harbor. They have always been extremely honest, which we all is pretty difficult to find when dealing with auto-shops, very helpfully and their pricing is always fair, you won't get charged for stuff that does not need to be done. I have been to a few auto-shops prior to them and I have been disappointed time and time again; like the time when one shop put my brake pads on backwards. You seriously have to work at getting them on that way. So if you need a place to get your car serviced, you should look Ball Auto up. Plus if you have an older vehicle they have 89 & 92 no ethanol gas as well. read more

I've had service twice and believe I've found my go-to mechanics :-) They quoted me lower than the three other places I called for oxygen sensor's replacement, as was detected as the need for the code read-out from Auto Zone and O'Reilly's. When I came back a few months later, it was for trunk struts which I was going to do myself until I realized the auto parts stores couldn't get them and suggested I call dealer for OEM struts. The price for the struts the dealer would put in were of course exorbitant. Ball quoted MUCH lower than the dealer, like 1/5th, so of course I went with them. They took my struts off and replaced with ones they ordered and determined there was nothing wrong with the originals and the heavy trunk lid was natural to the trunk's design. They took the new struts out and but my originals back on as they were functional for keeping the trunk open and didn't charge me a diagnosis fee for the time they spent. They're friendly, knowledgeable and prompt in service when you make an appointment with them and seem to all be honest in the work they do. Also, it's in the fun little neighborhood of Stadium which has multiple great places to grab a good bite and two coffee shops and is a nice place to get a walk in with the views of the Puget Sound and many historic beautiful old homes and Wright Park. read more

I took my 2005 van to Ball for a pre-trip check. Was getting ready to drive 1900 miles. Will be driving back, too! They are so nice and thorough and didn't charge for the check. If I'd had a problem, they would have fixed, of course, at reasonable rates. Made the first 1900 with no mechanical problems. Wish I could say the same for my poor, old body! Lol read more

They have saved me thousands with my last car I wish I had found them sooner. I had my water pump replaced twice by my previous shop "that's the problem" I went to Ball and it was my overflow tank they fixed in a few hours and my car ran perfect form there on out. Best shop in Tacoma by far! Honest, trustworthy, and always super helpful. I absolutely refuse to take my car to any other mechanic and here's why: My 06' Taurus died on me in the middle of rush hour traffic one day. Panic inducing to say the least, since I was working in Redmond and living in Tacoma. I had brought it to a transmission shop on center and pine and they told me it was the fuel pump. A $1500 repair estimate along with an $80 fee for the diagnosis. That sounded pretty fishy to me. I had been upfront with the mechanic and let it slip that I'm not much of a car guy, so I guess he thought he could get away with charging the most expensive repair and I would fall for it. I decided to get a second opinion and took it to ball. As it turns out it was a minor electrical component that was causing the issue and it costed less than $200 to repair. Thanks guys! read more

Ball auto was reccommeded by a friend as *the* place to take your car for service or repair needs. When my 2000 Tahoe started to have issues with the gas gage, I assumed that it was the usual problem with Tahoes - the fuel pump unit that goes out and costs a bunch to repair. So I call a number of places for estimates and only the guys at Ball suggest that I have the instrument cluster checked before doin the very expensive gas pump replacement. That, by the way, still cost less at Ball than anyone else quoted. Yes, it turned out to be the expensive part, but thanks for checking the less expensive problem first, rather than just diving into expensive problem first. read more

Ball Auto Service is the best place to take any make of car. Their extraordinary knowledge is matched by no one in the Tacoma area. They are honest, trustworthy and when my car or pickup is ready to be picked up, I know it's good to go. It's hard to find a good mechanic, but when they come out and say, we didn't need to replace this or that, it's just a breath of fresh air knowing they are not up-selling me for something I didn't need. Just a bunch of fabulous mechanics. Although a downside of a good review is that I might not get my car in because I gave such a good review. Shit! Amazing help from the guys at ball auto the other day. During my lunch break I noticed a screw sticking into my tire and I called them and they said bring it in. When I got there they noticed it was on the outside wall of the tire and they told me they were not allowed to fix that kind of puncture. I was in a bind as it was my lunch break and I needed to get it fixed before my commute home to Seattle, so they offered to have me leave my car there and they would put on the spare for me. At the end of my workday I went to pick up my car and pay for the help and they told me there was no charge! They just put on the spare to help me out. Can't say enough how much little things like that can save a day. Thanks guys! read more
