Surprised by some of the recent low star reviews! We stopped in on a Friday evening, not too crowded, service was good, food was too. Fried green tomatoes, a fav, covered in some creole crawfish sauce... delicious! We shared the catfish platter and shrimp poor boy. Tip of the cap to the poor boy, between the two entrees, the shrimp was the star. The fried catfish, while good, was breaded a little too much, fish inside mushy in places. The seasoned fries were great, I'd go back just for a plate of them. Good meal, all served piping hot, good time, solid 4-star experience! Recommend you try Mouton's! read more

Another reviewer said it right, this is a bar with bar food, and not a Bistro. Dogshit bar food for alcoholics who don't know any better. I don't know where to start. Well, when the waiter came I asked what are the best things on the menu and the first thing he mentioned was the Philly Cheese Steak sandwich... This is a Cajun/Creole New Orleans restaurant and the best thing is the Philly Cheese steak? Not the Gumbo, or the Étouffée, or even the red beans and rice, the Cheesesteak. That told me a lot right off the bat. Let me skip to the real stuff, everything tasted microwaved. You know if you were to make a batch of French fries, then let it sit out for 4 or 5 hours and when someone orders some you just throw them in the microwave and reheat them? Yeah, that was the vibe with EVERYTHING!!! Cold and rubbery exterior with a boiling hot interior. MICROWAVE!!!! The French fries, the Boudin Balls, the fried green tomatoes, all MICROWAVED!!! The burger was overcooked and sitting in a pile of clear grease so as I had to ask for a new burger bun. The catfish was flavorless, and microwaved, the chicken fried steak plate was cold and rubbery, the crawfish on top of the fried green tomatoes was so rubbery, like whacky wall walkers. The first time we came, we waited over an hour for our food and it arrived cold, but we didn't complain. The second time, we waited 45 minutes for our food, and again it came out cold and was missing a side. We had wonderful experiences at the Leander location before it closed down, but unfortunately the Cedar Park location is not the same. Went yesterday with family around lunch time. For one I did not enjoy my burger at all. I understand the cook was going for medium but that goal was not achieved the ground beef was still mushy and raw in the middle. I could not bring myself to say anything because my mother in law suggested the restaurant and I did not want to insult her suggestion and opinion of it being a good restaurant. Secondly my fiancés waffles were also not cooked all of the way through, raw dough in the middle. THIRD. Yes, third. As if nothing else could have gone wrong my fiancés bestfriend ordered shrimp and grits, plate came out and he was given a shrimp quesadilla. A quesadilla. It seems very hard to get the two mixed up. He didn't say anything to us until we split up and said goodbye to my mother in law. He said he didn't want to be confrontational and that the quesadilla was not bad, that he enjoyed it. I understand he did not have an issue with the food he received but at the end of the day it's not what he ordered. So if you're looking to have a nice meal please avoid Mouton's. They do not have standards for good food or service. If you're looking for undercooked food, cold "hot" coffee, slow service while they seemed dead and for the wrong food, then do come here. I understand understaffing and being overwhelmed but that's too many mistakes to overlook for the money you spend trying to feed yourself. This location is a breath of fresh air compared to the location that use to be open in Leander. First of all, this location is more open and well lit. The decorations are nicer and I really love that they have a Pac-Man arcade game...win! One of my biggest issues with the Leander location was the staff. This location was NOT like that. The server we had was very friendly, positive, helpful, and attentive. We didn't feel like we were a burden simply for showing up. I noticed a regular walk in and our server said "hello" to him by name. It says something to me for a place to have regulars that are known by name. It had been years since we have been to a Mouton's. I suggested it to my husband because I knew it was close to our chiropractor anyway. We got the chicken bacon biscuit each and oh my, my, my, my, my...our mouths were very, very happy with our choice. The egg was cooked to perfection for both of us too. They seem to actually know how to cook an over medium egg. Oh and the bacon isn't flimsy bacon tasting paper either, it is thick cut and delicious! Definitely one of my favorites! We have been going to Morton's for 14+ years, since they have been open. We followed them from Leander to Cedar Park. Given them our business weekly. As the prices climbed, we still continued our business. Today we will end our dedication to Moutons. We paid $15.99 for a ham and cheese sandwich. It should have been a muffuletta. We paid $15.99 for a Ruben that had nothing but sauerkraut. When we called to question and complain, the person who answered was rude, and annoyed with our complaint / observation and hung up on me without any explanation. It's sad to see such a staple in our community treat their long-time patrons with such disrespect. The new owners have a long way to go. We will never be back. read more

A friend and I went for an early lunch at Mouton's. She'd been there before, but it was my first visit. The strip center restaurant has 2 rooms: a bright one in the bar area in the storefront on the right and a larger, darker space to the left. We chose a booth in the brighter area. The booths there can accommodate maybe 8 people. Our server was the same person who showed us in. She was bubbly and enthusiastic, and did a good job. She seemed to know the menu and was able to make recommendations. We chose a small portion of jambalaya, a full size etoufée, and an order of fries. Everything was perfectly cooked and seemed freshly made. The jambalaya was on the spicy side but very good. This is a place I could easily return to many times, as the menu has lots of tempting options. Nearby parking is pretty limited out front, but there are plenty of spaces in the lot at the far end of the building. read more

Kids eat free Tuesdays! That was honestly the main draw of Mouton's for our family of four, so getting 2 kid entrees with 2 adult entrees is great value. Food is made fresh to order but they got some fun arcade games in the back where the kids can entertain themselves while you wait. While most of the food we had was nothing too special (though came in plentiful quantities), the cajun specialties are definitely the more standout of the choices we had. I liked the Catfish jambalaya which was basically all of New Orleans greatest hits on one plate: blackened catfish, sausage jambalaya, crawfish etouffee, garlic bread. Can't really ask for anything more there. My wife got a chicken fried steak and it was massive - the fry was light and the green beans surprisingly crisp and flavorful. Potatoes and gravy were fairly average. The kids loved the chicken nuggets and battered fries (nuggets are HUGE and clearly real chicken). Burger was a bit dense and dry, so maybe a different kids option there. All in all, going to be a staple Tuesday night out going forward for us! read more

I'm always looking for some good Cajun food, but I'm not sure this hit every mark. Here's the breakdown of our visit: Bar-like atmosphere. Service was very slow. Gator bites were HORRIBLE - almost all batter. What little meat existed was flattened and extremely chewy. The dipping sauce was delicious. Chicken fried steak was great. Catfish jambalaya was full of flavor. Garlic bread was stale and didn't have good flavor. Texas toast was pretty good. I don't normally comment on things. Ben was an amazing owner and the staff is and will be awesome if they let them help. The new owners have no clue what they are doing. I've been coming here from day one and this will be my last day. It's very unfortunate for everyone that put there time in here. This place has a real homey feel to it serving plenty options for carnivores and vegetarians. We ordered the shrimp and grits 3/5 and the French toast with a fried egg. 5/5 Shrimp and grits was okay once the hot sauce was added but by itself the grits were bland and shrimp seemed to be boiled which was weird and I didn't enjoy. I opted to bring it home and throw the shrimp in a skillet for a good seer. Wouldn't order again. The French toast was great , perfect texture and flavor, the bread they used worked really well. The table we were at had some jelly on it from the prior customer which was a tad disturbing , unclear if it was missed as it was hard to see with the Wooden table top or if the table just wasn't cleaned at all. This was my first experience here, and I had heard good things. First, the service wasn't great. Not many options for anyone avoiding wheat, and almost none for garlic and onion intolerances. I decided to just go for it, and ordered a favorite dish, the crawfish étouffée. It wasn't very good, definitely not worth the stomach ache I got for eating it. Had been wanting to try Mouton since seeing they have chicken fried steak but the drive was a bit far from home. Finally made it to meet with a friend in that area. We did come on Labor Day, possibly the reason for the slow service. We didn't get our food until 45 minutes after ordering. The servers were nice, likely just short staff for the holiday. I did enjoy the food. The Gumbo was flavorful. I'm not a gumbo expert but it was good for me. The chicken fried steak didn't disappoint. Good size portion, had to take most of it home after finishing the gumbo. I will come back to try the étouffé and maybe other items! read more

Came here for dinner the other night when I was cracking Cajun food and really enjoyed my meal. I ordered the catfish basket and the catfish was cooked perfect and the fries were great as well. I really like the tartar sauce they served with it and I ended up asking for some lemon wedges to squeeze on the fish. My boyfriend got the chicken fried steak and didn't end up liking it as much as he'd hoped. I tried it and it was a little sweet almost like meatloaf which I thought was weird. The jalapeño creamed corn was good tho! When we came they had family feud style trivia going which was very entertaining to listen to lol. We are long time fans of Moutons, both Leander (when it was open) and Cedar Park. The boudin balls are our favorite. The food has always been incredible. The food tonight was superb as always. We had the Boudin Balls, Cajun pasta and catfish basket. The catfish was perfection. The service the past three times we have come has been atrocious. Waiting after sitting 20 min to have someone acknowledge us. Having our meal arrive before appetizer, with zero drinks. Going an entire meal with no check ins and empty glasses. Because we know things are challenging in staffing services we keep giving the benefit, it's just been increasingly worse. Tonight was the worst. Our waiter was super attentive to the table beside us. We understand their party was more than two. However we tried and failed to get the attention of the server three times. I had to raise my voice to get his attention. It was embarrassing to work so hard to get the attention. He was not the only server, the section had another server as well. Folks delivering food and even the manager. The kitchen was running slow so there were other things going on. I do think it's reasonable to expect our waiter do more than take our order and deliver the check. I also think any of the other four people circulating could have supported our waiter if he was behind. In the off chance he was having a bad night we tipped well to be kind. A very chill spot, a friend and I chose Mouton's as a vent sesh spot, their outdoor seating area was perfect! The waitress was attentive and did not make us feel rushed, and consistently made sure everything was perfect. The food was delicious, and the portions were huge! The eggs lacked flufiness (I bet they didn't follow meal prep to that), the flavor was on point, and they did just the right amount of spinach and bacon. The bread is good but poorly heat it. It was dry (which it means) they didn't use butter and the food didn't come out very hot. Service: Poor. The server wasn't very good on manners on how to talk to people. It felt like we were just welcome at first. Later, he did a little bit better, ensuring there was always water and coffee. I think etiquette manners will make it better. Price: they served a good quantity. Economically, it's cheaper than anything around. Ambiance: It was a combination of bar and coffee. Ordered the chicken fried steak very disappointed while steak was good but small, atleast it was fried in clean grease. Biggest issue was the cream gravy cold, flavorless paste . jalapeño cream corn was nice could have been a little thicker but good , potatoes ,cold flavorless mess , no seasoning salt or pepper just mashed boiled potatoes. We have been there many times but have noticed it has gone downhill. We went this morning for breakfast. I noticed 1 waitress was seating and waiting tables (that we saw). We waited 30 minutes for our food(it was just 2 of us). It wasn't even busy. We ordered 2 omelettes. I asked for sourdough bread and when we got our food it was regular bread. I asked her and she said oh yea that's white, so she went to get me sourdough, when she brought it out it wasn't even toasted or buttered. I questioned if it was the sourdough and she said that's what their sourdough is. Clearly she didn't know what she was talking about. I had to ask her to bring me butter as it was dry. Also she forgot our side of bacon that we had to pay extra for. The food was just meh, not much cheese in our omelettes. When she brought the check I noticed a note on the bottom that said there is a 3% charge for credit cards. It seems that this place is not good anymore. Sad because the Leander location was much better and it seems like they brought you more food for the money. Second time I have been to Mouton's in the last few weeks and have not stayed to eat. The first time, I was told there was a 45 minute wait but the place was mostly empty. I wasn't offered a seat at one of the many empty tables so we left. Today, we were seated, waited 20 minutes and no one took food or drink orders. So again we left. Loved the place in Leander but the Cedar Park place is often understaffed and not worth the wait. read more

We were excited to try this place as we were missing some Cajun food from our time down south. We decided to come for brunch and arrived and seated at 10:30A and at the time of this writing it is 11:36A. We are still waiting for our food which is not a big lift. Pretty much French toast and a breakfast plate. There are definitely people here at the restaurant but it isn't a line out the door. How it takes over one hour is absolutely atrocious. Bacon, sausage, ham and eggs really shouldn't take that long. At least not an hour. Definitely no excuse to this. And a server just told me 5 more minutes. We shall see. Stay away if you don't want to waste your whole day. Especially for the price of what they are charging, this better be the best eggs we've ever had. Customers are now ready to walk This place is a disaster right now. I can't even imagine a busy lunch service with much more complex dishes. Get it together or this restaurant will be in trouble. I have only had Togo here so this review is solely based on the food. Gumbo was good the first time, but the most recent time the roux was borderline burnt so there was a bit of an almost burnt taste. The lunch menu is great love the options and the chicken Atchafalaya. Onion rings were great and looked like it was made from scratch. Angry pasta had a good kick and flavor but the jambalaya pasta seemed like it was missing some depth and salt. read more
