There are lots of moving companies in New York, so there's no reason to have to use this one. The three movers showed up an hour and twenty minutes late. It took them fourteen hours to move two bedrooms and a small living room within Manhattan, which required two trips since they brought the wrong sized truck. (They had quoted seven hours, which was supposed to also include a trip to pick up items from a storage location. We never made it that far.) The movers were slow and inefficient -- I even took a video of them from my balcony as they stood around their truck not working. They were lazy with wrapping up furniture and instead of carrying our mattresses they used two people to drag them through the street. At the end of the move I found they had scraped my bed frame, chipped the corner of a dining table, and put a hole in my box spring. The elevators in my building were also being used by some other people which caused some delays, but the movers just sat around on our furniture for 30 minutes (twice) before letting us know. We informed the front desk and they sent the elevator right away. By the time we got to the destination location we had missed our reserved window for using that moving elevator, so the movers sat in their truck for another hour before we could use it again. I began moving things in myself, and probably carried as much as any of the movers did. After taking another trip to retrieve the remaining items from the old apartment, we finally finished at 12:30 AM. The move was being paid at a rate of $100 per hour, but instead of charging us $1400 (and tacking on a $120 parking ticket) I think the boss, Petros, realized the move was a disaster and charged us $900, which was nice but was STILL $200 more than the estimate AND they never moved the items from storage. Well, Petros was nice enough to offer to do the storage move for free, but unfortunately the storage location was not open at midnight. He said we could do the storage move another time at a discount, and when we called he gave us his "discounted" price of $475. Instead of dealing with Move-it 4 Less any further we called someone else who finished the move for $240. read more

I recently moved between apartments. I was a little nervous since I've never made this kind of move before on short notice, but I was super satisfied with these guys. I had queen mattress, a giant queen sized loft bed frame, a full bed and frame, a medium sized couch, big TV and stand, a big cabinet, and a bunch of smaller items and boxes. 3 guys and a big truck showed up at 8 am sharp and had all the furniture wrapped up and on the truck after an hour. I knew that would be the easy part. My new apartment was a 4 story walk up with steep narrow stairs and sharp narrow corners. I honestly wasn't sure if my loft bed frame and couch would be able to maneuver around. These guys were in beast mode and managed it somehow, and they did it fast. All-in-all, it took 3 hours from start to finish to get everything in the new apartment, undamaged. I'll definitely be looking into these guys again for future moves. read more

I had organized and confirmed a move within midtown Manhattan for my boss with Jet Moving Systems over a month in advance. They contacted me through a post I had made through Billy.com asking for quotes. The Sunday evening, before the move on Monday morning, I was contacted as promised to confirm the arrival time at 5.10pm. I was then called again an hour later at 6.15pm to tell me they could not make it after all as their truck was broken down due to a snow storm 2 nights before. They did try to reschedule for the following Tuesday but this was not an option. I would not recommend this moving company as I had to spend 3 hours on a Sunday evening trying to find another moving company on such short notice for the following morning.... nightmare situation.... Oh, and they never replied to my email or called to follow up and apologize. The happy ending: Petros at Move -It 4 Less was able to confirm and accomodate my move that evening and had arranged for the movers to arrive first thing on Monday morning. He was in touch with me every step of the way and provided the necessary insurance papers to the management buildings before they arrived. Not only did I save $350 with this Move-It 4 Less, but they also did the move in less time than had been estimated with Jet Moving. It's hard for me to explain how much I regret having appointed "Move-it-4-less" to do my moving.... To avoid you the regret, I decided to write this review. I moved from the Upper West side to the Upper East on October 30, 2009. Out of 30 boxes that I packed myself, there were 4 boxes that I asked them to be particularly cautious with, since they were very fragile. I labeled those boxes all over with "FRAGILE" signs and even set them apart so they don't mix them with the others. I packed them using plenty of bubble wrap and cushion foam, knowing that you had to actually drop the box from your hands for something to get broken... To be on the safe side, while I was doing the booking I asked if the things that I was moving were insured, and I was informed that they had a policy with a third-party insurance Company for this purpose. The movers left the "old" apartment some minutes before me, and got to the "new" apartment more than 20 minutes later than me (the new apartment is only 20 blocks away from the old apartment and there is only one route to do the cross town, so 20 minutes was a considerable delay)... I didn't say anything to them, but I found the answer when I saw one of the movers coming down from the truck with a "Papa Johns" glass on his hand (it might have been Domino's, I can't remember) but being 12:30 pm that gave me a good hint of what happened. This is not a big issue, but I'm trying to be as detailed as I can with my review, so you know what to expect... When they finished with the moving, I gave each of the movers (3 of them) a $30 tip (this is what Petros -the person who made the booking for the moving- suggested as a customary tip). Needless to say, I only gave the tip thinking that everything was in a good condition... It was the 4 FRAGILE boxes that me and my wife opened first... I was puzzled with why one of those boxes had one of the corners smashed if they were in perfect conditions when I packed them. When I opened it up, I saw that two crystal salad bowls were broke into pieces. I can't understand how hard that box may have hit the floor if even the lip of the bowl, which had a silver plated rim, was dented. I called Petrus the following day hoping that he would give me a solution to it, since the things were properly insured... Much to my surprise, it was at that moment that he told me that the insurance was only 30 cents per pound (what a valuable piece of information he omitted when I asked while doing the booking!!), and since a crystal salad bowl usually weights no more than 3 or 4 pounds, it wouldn't make sense to do anything. After explaining to him how much those salad bowls represented to us (it was a gift given to us on our wedding) he just apologized without giving any solution. I was so upset that I even asked for the tip back (which I gave the movers thinking that everything was in good conditions), to which he replied that he would ask one of the guys who did the moving to call me back. I'm not surprised that he never did, and I never heard from Petros again........... Don't take the chances, there are plenty of moving Companies in NY, many of them with good ratings, so why choosing this one? read more

Very poor experience. Lots of bait and switches. 7.5 hrs to move a quarter of a mile away is unacceptable Issue 1: The week before, I had clearly requested a big truck for my move, since I wanted to get all of my stuff moved in one trip. Instead, Petros (the owner) sends a significantly smaller van on the day of the move that would require 3 trips (and take much more time). He claims that the issue is about parking, though in talking with his guys, I find out that the issue was that he just didn't want to pony up for the large truck. He tries to cover his mistake by offering to provide me 2 extra guys for a discounted rate of $15/hr per person. I find out from the movers that his cost is $10/hr for each extra person, so he not only tries to cover his mistake, he hopes to make a profit on it! About 5 hours into the job, they finally bring a larger truck in (as it finished another move early). If it was truly a parking issue from the beginning as he claimed, Petros wouldnt've brought the larger truck in. By this time, the larger truck was marginally helpful. Issue 2: I also had explicitly asked for a wardrobe box so I could move my clothes. Petros says that it'll be on the truck, no problem. When the truck comes, that box isn't on there, though Petros claims it absolutely is. We go back and forth and I verify myself that the wardrobe box isn't on there. Great... even more waste of time now. Ultimately, the operation is awful. While they were recommended to me by a colleague, I'll never consider using them again given how many times Petros promised one thing and gave me another. These baits and switches cost a lot as the move dragged on for many hours more than it should've. read more

I hired these guys to move a couch that I bought for my mom from Chelsea to the UWS. They were great! Courteous, polite, careful, and professional, they even had to carry the couch up six flights of stairs because it didnt fit into the elevator! Very reasonable rates as well. I have been using Petros and his team to move all over New York for years. They are the best in every way, price, reliability, professionalism and speed. Moving can be a nightmare but these guys take all the stress out of it and make it easy. I have recommended him to many of my friends and they have all been very happy. TERRIBLE CHEATERS DISHONEST people. I trusted them to move my stuff when I was out of town and I could not supervise them do the work. They deliberately took hours to move my stuff 8 streets down as they bill per the hour. They charged 2 hours of traffic on their bill for moving stuff 8 streets down! And also, they charged me $60 dollars for carrying up a wardrobe they argued did not fit in my elevator ($10 for each flight up) and I just discovered the wardrobe easily fits in the elevator. Also, they had said they would dissassemble furniture and reassemble it if necessary, and they DID NOT. DO NOT USE THEM. I ended up paying at least twice or more than what someone else would have charged me. read more

My suggestion is to avoid this company. Here is my experience. I asked to move a couch a large reclining chair and several boxes from a spare room in our place to make room for our new little one on the way. We got a quote and scheduled the move for Saturday morning. They called to confirm the move earlier today and I called them back this evening. They negotiated to use a third mover instead of two and I agreed. I then followed up to ask if they were insured so we were sure they'd be careful not to damage the building. He said there is no formal insurance offered and it would require a signature from the building management company that they cant get on a Friday. Then he calls me back tonight to tell me they didn't expect 'that kind of job' and they can't do the move. They demonstrated no willingness whatsoever to even attempt to demonstrate pride or quality in their work or their movers for a small simple job. It's frightening to think if we had trusted them for a larger move. Not recommended. read more

Dishonest, poor quality movers. First off, 7 hours to load a 2 bedroom apartment on a truck! They didn't even have to unload it! I would go downstairs to check on the guys and find them sitting on the steps, this is after I bought them water and juice because they were thirsty. Then as I'm signing off on everything they said they had to charge me a $50.00 travel fee which I was never told about. Travel to where? They showed up at my apartment and loaded the truck then left. Finally when I got to my new home almost 300 miles away and go to unload the truck I found that the movers stacked wooden furniture on top of wooden furniture without using the blankets I rented and provided them to protect the furniture, so now I have about $1000.00 worth of furniture that is ruined. Move It for Less is the best!! This is my 3rd time moving in the last 15 years. The first 2 times I moved from one apartment to another and I picked movers from yellow pages. That was a big mistake. The first moving company took 2 days to move just a few items in the living room and bedroom. They justified over charging them since our agreement was by the hour. When I moved the second time, the movers I used, never came on time, costing me time and several days off work. This time, which is my third, I was moving furniture to storage warehouse. Because of my bad experience with movers, I consulted a friend who gave me the phone number for Move It 4 Less. I called and spoke to Petros, who is the owner of Move It 4 Less. He gave me a choice of flat rate or by the hour. I chose the flat rate. The workers came exactly on the agreed time. They packed all furniture nicely and quickly. They drove to the warehouse without any delay. They unloaded the truck being careful with my furniture. They even offered to unpack once in the warehouse. Now, that Is what I call service. Move It 4 Less is the best moving company in town. I highly recommend this company to anybody moving. read more

I have used Move It 4 Less twice since I have lived in New York, the past 5 years, and both times I have been very happy. My most recent experience in June 2012, was no exception. I had a very complicated move where the movers were required to pick up items in one location on UWS and deliver to 3 different locations (2 on the west side of Manhattan and the third stop in Astoria). I was charged $85 and hour for 3 movers (I think it was a mid month moving special). The three movers were amazing, they showed up on time, completed the job in 5 hours and didn't break a thing! They were courtesy and had a good attitude and my boyfriend and I were both very very impressed with them. Additionally setting this up with Petros, the owner, was quite easy. He was very communicative, supplied one of the buildings I moved to with an insurance certificate without question, and made me feel assured that this move would happen on schedule. (I noticed some moving companies charge you for a certificate of insurance which I find ridiculous. If you have insurance, then it should not cost anything to email a scanned copy of the certificate over to a building. I think many of those companies that charge but insurance for you move and are not a company with legit insurance). Another reason I was very pleased with this company. Petros and I did, at the end of the move, have a misunderstanding about how much extra the drive time was (he thought I was quoted and hour and I had in writing a half hour) and that shrink wrap and tape was extra which I was unaware and thought I had been told otherwise. After some discussions, Petros only charged the 1/2 hour and refunded the packing materials. Though I wasn't thrilled with a misunderstanding and having to deal with this detail at the end, Petros ended up handling it well and has made me a repeat customer who just recommended this company to 2 sets of friends. For my next move, instead of dealing with quotes from 6-8 moving companies, as I did this time, I will simply book this company. read more

I wish I saw the previous review prior to using this company. Despite their website stating that they do not charge extra for walk-up buildings they tried to do just that when they found one item of our furniture would not fit in the elevator causing them to carry it up 3 flights of stairs. Their website also claims that they will take extra care with your antiques however both of our antique cabinets with leaded light were damaged on a short move within Manhattan. To top it off a box of liquor was 'missing' at the end of the move. Save yourself unnecessary aggravation and heartache and use another company. read more
