I used to love coming to this theater, but honestly, it's gone downhill since COVID. One of the things that made this place feel special was being able to press the button at your seat to order food and drinks. It added to the whole experience, and it's disappointing that they got rid of it. The food has also taken a huge step backward. I can't think of a single menu item that still tastes good, and whenever I do eat here, I end up with a stomachache afterward. The theater itself is starting to show its age too. The screen feels small compared to other theaters, and many of the seats are cracked and worn. The worst experience, though, was when my partner and I came to watch a movie and there was a mouse running around on and between our seats. We immediately went to management, explained what happened, and requested a refund. They refused, saying there was nothing they could do. That response was honestly more upsetting than seeing the mouse itself. As someone who came here often and is even a Magical Movie Rewards member, I expected much better customer service. That experience completely changed my opinion of this theater. I haven't been back since, and I can't recommend it to others. If management isn't willing to address cleanliness issues or take care of loyal customers, there are much better theaters to spend your money at. read more

Huge theater space right here in the burbs of Aurora! Is it the most up to date seats or decor? No. But prices are reasonable, they have a banging rewards program and a stellar food and drink menu. I've come here twice in the past month, once for a new release and another for a re-release. If you join their rewards, you get the largest soda and popcorn as a birthday reward and Tuesdays are their Rewards member days with $6 movies and discounted food. It's not a fancy place but not dingy, just a standard movie theater and sometimes that's all you need. read more

My local movie theater! I absolutely love it here. They have a decent selection of beers, wine, and spirits here (considering that it's a movie theater). The staff though are super helpful. And I love being able to order food and drinks during the movie! They have a decent menu. The seasoned Fries are a must! I also enjoyed their fried pickles! I really want to support the movie tavern because it's right in my community and I do enjoy the smaller movie theater format. The problem I have is with the service. For the second experience in a row, we have ordered food upon entry and it has not been delivered to our seat. This time, I had to leave the theater and go request my food to be made from the food service area. They are always nice about it, but after waiting 40-50min for my bucket of popcorn, I begin to feel that overall there is a lack of organization with getting food out to customers. Since my last review I have probably been to this theater, not exaggerating, about 20-30 times. I signed up for their membership, which is free, and kept building points. We would go to Monday Mystery Movie nights for weeks and weeks. One 1 movie out of over 10 was not good. We typically go on Tuesdays for their $6 ticket deal. They also now offer $3 hot dogs, $4 select candy, $4 16oz featured draft beer and free popcorn. Its such a good deal to go on Tuesdays. We love the Movie Tavern. read more

Saw the new Jurassic Park recently and was pretty disappointed in the experience. Took a while to get a beer from the bar and I had ordered before an influx of people came.. was certainly surprised to see some of them getting served their drinks first when mine was a simple beer from tap. I think what was really frustrating was the amount of head on the beer I got. I think it was $27 for the giant mug I got.. but so much of my drink ended up as overflowing foam. It was a terrible pour or a janky tap job and I had to clean the mess up with napkins that were hard to find. The theater room itself was nothing to write home about. Seats recline and were comfy but looked worn. The sound quality was meh. Screen was really small, I could have just pirated the movie and had a better experience at home. I also had no idea how to order food.. they have menus near the door but no buttons on the trays in the theater. Although this is an older theatre, we still usually have a nice experience when we come. They don't have all the bells and whistles but the staff is friendly and it's never crazy busy. We generally enjoy the food we get. I definitely recommend ordering your food through the app because sometimes ordering at the counter takes a while because they are taking orders and making drinks. The app could use an update as you sometimes have to re-enter your information. Again, it's definitely an older place that could use some updating but it's a good price and keeps our little family happy. read more

Today I went to the movie Tavern to see the movie the amateur very good movie. I love this theater because it's contrary to other theaters is not always as crowded and the cost of tickets on Tuesday is reduced so that's another plus for this Theatre. The tickets are six dollars to seven dollars depending on the cinema that you watch a movie plus you get free popcorn. The bathrooms are clean they're well stocked and also the employees are extremely personable very friendly and I have to say a shout out to the to the young lady named Angie. She is the best every time we go. I went today and saw Mission Imposible with my husband and we had a great time. First off, we arrived at 2:30 and still had matinee price onlt $5.00 each - wow last week we paid $12.50 each at AMC. Then when we sat down, we immediatey realized that we loved these swivel chaires so much better than an AMC seat. The waitress greeted us as soon as we sat down and took our drink order. 2 milk shakes and a diet coke. The coke came in 2 minutes and the shakes came in less than 5. Then she took our lunch order - one cheeseburger plate and one sliders plate. That order came to us in about 7 minutes -- hot and fresh. The sliders were great the burger was - a 7 out of a 10. The wait staff however, was all over that room to make sure everyone had their orders before the movie started. The lights stayed on through all of the boring trailers and as soon as the movie actually started the light went dark. She came by twice to see if we wated more diet coke (which we did at the exact moment- althouse we still has 3" in the huge glass!) and once to see if we wanted dessert (which we did not) She was such a sweet girl and gave us better service than we have had in expensive resturants. Out lunch bill came to $33.00 and I gladley tipped her $7.00. So even after a full lunch with atip to a nice girl, we still paid less than we did at AMC and got no service and only popcorn and two large ICEES ($54.00 with tickets) So, for all of you people that have written bad reviews -- WTF are you talking about? If you got bad servce in the past --they them again -- looks like thay have really made some significant positive changes. As I waked out, I saw a lady and asked if she was the Manager. She said, "Yes I am - how can I assist you?" I said, " I just wanted to tell you that we had a great experience - great service, great food and a great movie!" She was so happy to hear that as you can tell they all work so very hard to create a good entertainment experience. It has been a year since we've visited the Movie Tavern. It is an unremarkable movie theater that has gotten a facelift over the last few years making it more appealing. We decided to go on their Tuesday special day where their tickets are $6 and Loyalty patrons get a free popcorn (that would normally cost $6+). This was a great treat. There is ample parking and the staff were courteous and helpful. We chose to just watch the movie and enjoy our free popcorn. The chairs elevate and offer a comfortable movie experience. The Tuesday deal allowed 6 of us to enjoy a recently released movie without breaking the bank. I'll definitely come back again... and sooner than a year just to get a break from hectic work schedules. read more

One of my favorite theaters to go to for movie night! Buying tickets are quick and easy. You can buy online or right when you walk in. The staff are nice and do their jobs well. The seats are comfortable and spacious and the sound system is good. Most of the time I don't order food when seeing a movie because the prices are steep. I have been in denial for way to long. This used to be our favorite theater for at least a decade and a half but it is seriously struggling. And the people who are trying their best to do their jobs, god bless them. Definitely, the pandemic did not help matters. Gradually it seems that money is not being spent to maintain basic necessities. Such as soap that goes into the wall dispensers. Nope it is just refilled bottles of Kroger plastic soap dispensers. Which sounds nitpicking, but it has been like this for the past two months. It means the GM or someone is trying to make things work on a very shoestring budget. A tavern that has a very limited selection of alcohol. Definitely pre-pandemic it was visually impressive seeing a fully stocked display of bottles. Husband and I used to do the Saturday brunch in which the food used to be delish, hot, ordered and served at your seat, AND one could get a mimosa or a Bloody Mary. At my last two visits, they did not have either the champagne/Prosecco or orange juice. I was told someone has to go over to Safeway to get more orange juice. Anyway, it is HEARTBREAKING to see their journey go downhill. I will seek other places that might fill my expectations but again, breaks one heart. This place used to be thriving! Dinner theatre will NEVER go out of style! This Movie Tavern in Aurora has been our go to spot for romantic movie night lately. They have awesome, comfy recliner chairs, a sports bar, a wicked cool staff and really nice menu. We really enjoyed watching Dune, after everyone raved about the film last year. They all were like "Alice, you must see it on big screen and not on a tiny screen or on HBO!!" I remember our last visit was during Halloween of last year and we really enjoyed how decked out the lobby was; ghouls, goblins, skulls and all other festive decorations. Everything is electronic now and I miss having good ol' ticket stubs. During the movie, the chairs were comfy, the popcorn was delicious and the sound quality was what we expected while going into the Movie Tavern. we really enjoyed the dinner and the wonderful people there. They were highly understaffed and the business was very slow. I ordered a kids cheeseburger meal with fries as well as loaded fries and a Dr.Pepper to my seat on my visit on my friday. The cheeseburger and regular fries arrived a lot later than expected and I never received neither my loaded fries nor my Dr.Pepper. When I brought it up with a staff member inside the theater, she took my plate and said she would come back with my full order then came back with the same plate saying the rest of my order will be out soon. Although this place is nice, there is a strong old smell that is really hard to shake and that took me and my son forever to get used to. The meal tray on my seat was not clean and was sticky so I sat in my seat feeling gross the entire time. We did order food that was very expensive but I feel like that (expensive food) is standard for most theaters. my fried pickles weren't fried long enough. My sons hot Chito chicken sandwich was disgusting to me, but he enjoyed it and the final cake fries came with no sauce all the other advertise to come with a caramel and chocolate sauce cup. I've had my ups and downs with this location (such as, the period the theaters didn't have AC, or the time the Icee only came with a thin soda straw, or the COVID/post COVID and no servers era). But after all these years, it's still the most budget friendly movie theater in town. Being a rewards member also has its benefits. And best of all, love the refills on the popcorn tubs that you can purchase at the beginning of the year. You can unlimited refill it for $5 every visit. read more

Have been here 2x now and I finally came to a conclusion about this place:). Buying tickets online or at the box office is very easy(tickets cost about the same here as everywhere else). Now the thing that separates this theater apart from others is there menu and the the servers that stay posted up in the theater while you watch your movie which is very convenient and the food prices are not crazy either which is nice. They have lazy boy like recliners which are super comfortable. The reason for the 3 stars is because the place is extremely dirty and if you are serving food this is a problem to me. The menus they give you look like they have never been wiped down and it seems the place needs a good bath and maybe a visit from the health department making sure proper cleaning and storage is being done. I know this place will no longer be a top choice to watch a movie unless they get there acts together. I would go to AMC in Southlands over this one. They serve food there as well l(Not too familiar with this as I haven't gotten food there)and have reclining seats. read more

I would not recommend the beer, as they do not clean their lines. Hiring events and on the spot hiring posters are advertised constantly is posted because they can't keep a consistent team. Man some people are really peeved at this place cause I read some of these ratings for this theatre. There's a lot of variables really that's comes into play especially with the type of establishment like this. Like for one.. some people got pissed of by seeing some of the servers in their way in front of the screen but they are just DOING THEIR JOB. And shouldn't you be mad at the person who's ordering the food so late into the movie? And even then that patron has their own right to order whenever they want since it's that type of movie theatre. Anyway. Came here with my husband and we had a good experience here. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't amazing- it was literally just playing ol' good. We came early because we wanted our food to come out on time and really didn't want to eat during the movie. The server and staff was very nice and were doing their best. The food itself was good, but not great and yes it is overpriced for what it was but it's the novelty of the experience. I ordered the blta and that tasted good, my only complaint is that they gave me two teeny tiny tomatoes. My husband had the burger and it tasted pretty good, but it was just missing some sort of sauce.. like some kind of fancy Mayo. The reclining chairs were nice, comfortable , and were clean. New Batman so we went as a treat. It was $5 Tuesday which made it better. And as a member of their Rewards program we got a free small popcorn and water each. I had also ordered some chips and dip from their special Tuesday menu using the online system. We arrived a little after the delivery time I had selected but they brought it to us after we had settled in without me having to let them know we had arrived. The theatre was more crowded than I expected for a week day and also since when I purchased the tickets online, it showed we were the only ones. But we didn't feel crowded and we had selected the Superscreen DLX with Dolby system and Dreamlounger screening room. The volume was weird. I had a difficult time hearing the words. And I didn't notice much difference from the regular screening room. Glad I didn't pay the extra to be in that Superscreen room since all movies were $5. Restrooms are meh. The stall I used had a broken lock. But since it wasn't busy I didn't care. Times are hard and I feel like they're trying to give us a nice experience. Parking is good and the service fluctuates between average and excellent. So we will be back. read more

WOW...understaffed and poorly managed! We got to the theater and none of the 4 employees we encountered mentioned that the buttons for service didn't work in the theater. We missed the start of the movie standing in a long line served by one employee to order dinner and beers. The beers were never delivered as promised so I had to miss more of the movie to get those. I spoke to the manager about this, he stared at me blankly and seemed so over his head that he was unable to respond. Incompetence would be the best way to describe his management style. I love the seats and used to enjoy the overpriced meals due to the convenience. Not sure I'll give them another chance. read more

Was my go to movie place till now. 1st no A/C in the summer! Apparently no theater room has it. At first I was thinking it would cool down as the movie started to keep energy costs low. You do have some expectations when you pay $73 for 3 adults and 1 kid to see the movie. I was highly disappointed. We went to see the Barbie movie, movie was amazing! We always chose this place for the themed drinks and specials. There was nothing other than a strawberry shake. (Which they always have) spent another $70 on food and drinks. All were okay, not the best food I have eaten but not the worst. Going to the movies should be an amazing experience and this was a terrible one. We won't be returning. I very much enjoy this theater, it's close to home, the food isn't amazing but is as good as expected from theater food. But, the past two times I have gone to this theater, I have been met with rude employees and slow service. The time before last it took an hour into the movie to get our food and I had to leave the theater to chase after it. This time it took about 20 minutes to get a large popcorn, water and a tea(when others who sat after us had received their full meals). Only to be told during the movie that they were out of tea. I instead got the smallest cup of coffee I have ever received. I really want to like this theater and be comfortable going regularly but, based on the past few experiences here I have a hard time wanting to spend the money to go to a theater that doesn't seem to want customers there. read more
