Knowledgeable and Trustworthy!…read more I have a 15+ year old refrigerator that neither the refrigerator or freezer were working. Akai inspected the entire unit and indicated the issue was the defroster in the freezer wasn't working and needed to be replaced. He quoted me what I thought was a very fair price but before I could say "Shut up and take my money!" he added that when he had unplugged the unit & plugged it back in, when starting up again the compressor sounded a bit suspicious. Thus he indicated I could go ahead and pay him to install a new defroster in the freezer, but it is only a matter of time before the compressor craps out and then replacing it would be over $1,000 and not worth it. So get this....he proposes that I defrost it the old school way by unplugging it, opening both the freezer & fridge doors, placing towels in front of the unit, and allowing all of the ice to melt and then just mop up all the water with towels and my wet vac and that would solve the problem for now. And in a few months when the issue occurs again I can just repeat the old school defrosting method until the compressor finally goes kaput, and then get a brand new refrigerator. Sure enough, I proceeded to do exactly what he recommended and lo and behold the fridge & freezer started working properly again. And I am all too happy to repeat every few months to squeeze every last bit of life from this old fridge until I have to get a new one. Akai could have very easily kept quiet about the compressor sounding sketchy and that it could fail in 3 weeks, 3 months, or 3 years and gotten a nice service order for replacing the defroster since he had already devoted the valuable time & effort to come to my house. However, he instead chose to be completely honest and forthcoming which is not as common as it should be and is very appreciated. I have saved his contact info and the next time I have any issues with any appliances he will be the technician I call. Knowledge and experience is great and there are a lot of qualified & knowledgeable appliance repair companies out there. However, also possessing honesty and integrity is why I strongly recommend Akai for any appliance repair issues.

He is very knowledgeable about different appliances and he knew mine right away and he had an idea what it could be and sure enough it was the soap & softener dispenser. He showed me how to remove & clean it. It had held water wasn't draining back into the machine like it was supposed to just a minor little thing but now I know how to clean it periodically. Worth it for my peace of mind & also made sure I knew where my water shut off was just in case. These are good things to know , most people might not & that I'm a woman & older, it's good to know. Plus it doesn't hurt to have my machine looked at after 16 years. I've been here so I won't be afraid to use my washing machine so thank you AKIA.

Probably the most upsetting things I've had happen to me with any repairs to my home. I called…read moreMr.Appliance to get my Microwave fixed and when talking to there customer service, I asked her if it is usual that they cant fix microwaves? She said No it won't be a problem, I said what happens if they say they cant fix it, she said that never happens so you will be fine, that false sense of security fooled me so I set up a appointment and the technician came out. He said the magnetron was bad and you need a new one and thats going to cost 500, i said ok so this is going to fix it, he said yes and if it doesnt we will keep coming out till it is fixed, i was scared by the number but its a built in microwave so the hassle of getting a new one to fit the wall was a pain so i asked him to order it. The part comes in he comes out and puts it in and it frys the new magnatron in a couple days. I call them back out and he says well maybe its this and maybe its that. Im thinking ok so I spent 500 for nothing and you cant fix it. He reassures me again and says oh we will fix it. He orders another magnatron and I ordered another part and he comes out again and installs it, its fries a few days later. I was curious of next step he said its broke you cant fix it. I said ok well since you could fix it can I get some of my money back since you couldnt fix it like you said you would. He said no and offered to fix something else or install something for free later. My thought.... if you couldnt fix this like you said you would why would I call you out again to overcharge me and not fix something else? Save your time and your money, go somewhere else or just buy a new appliance.

First, to be fair, I had previous work done by Mr. Appliance on my dishwasher that was quickly and…read moresatisfactorily completed at a reasonable cost with a $125.00 non-refundable trip fee that is applied to any repairs done on the appliance. This time I called them for an 11-month-old clothes washer. The technician was on time and was dealing with my wife. He ran codes on the appliance and then told my wife it was going to be somewhere north of $500. Keep in mind this is a $700 drier from a well-reviewed brand. Not bargain basement, but not top of the line. I got on the phone with him, and he gave me a quote of $535.00. I researched the part, and according to the manufacturer, the price was $ 124.99. From Amazon, the part was $24.99. The estimate on the manufacturer's website said it was something pretty much anyone could do, by removing the 4 screws and an electrical pin connector, 30 minutes tops. I later contacted Mr. Appliance, and they offered me a 10% discount on the parts. Live and learn, I am out the $125.00 trip charge + the $27 spent on Amazon, and I have a working washer. I understand paying for technical expertise, but this was ludicrous, and Mr. Appliance in League City, Texas, will not receive any future business or recommendations from me.

1 Star -- Extremely Disappointed With the Lack of Follow-Through…read more 3 Boys Appliance Repair was assigned to us through American Home Shield to repair our refrigerator/freezer. So far, two different technicians have been sent to our home, and after almost two months, the original problem still has not been resolved. The first technician diagnosed the problem as a drain issue, but the problem continued. The freezer continues to freeze up excessively, to the point that the drawers become frozen in place and cannot be moved. A second technician was then sent out and gave us a different diagnosis. He said the problem was the door gasket and told us that the part needed to be ordered. We continued waiting, but nothing happened. After contacting American Home Shield, I was told that they were waiting for additional information from 3 Boys Appliance Repair before they could approve the part/order or move forward with the repair. I then called 3 Boys myself. The person who answered told me they had apparently not noticed that American Home Shield was requesting additional information from them. He told me he would look into it and call me back. I am still waiting for that call. Meanwhile, our freezer continues having the same problem. My biggest frustration is not simply that the appliance has not been repaired. It is the lack of communication, follow-up, and coordination between the contractor and American Home Shield. A customer should not have to continually call both companies trying to figure out why necessary information has not been submitted. After almost two months, two technician visits, two different diagnoses, and multiple phone calls, we still have the same freezer problem and no clear resolution. I hope 3 Boys Appliance Repair takes responsibility for following through with American Home Shield and gets this repair completed.

The good: Reasonable prices, friendly technicians, were able to be booked on short notice…read more The bad: I caught a mistake myself that would have caused some drywall damage if I didn't convince/ show them before the left. In summary, my laundry room was recently painted and the dryer vent ducting came out of the back of the machine. I tried to fix it myself but when I pushed the machine back against the wall the duct kept coming off. Unfortunately I found this out by leaking a whole dryer load worth of hot air into my house (fortunately we have an electric dryer so it wasn't bad fumes). Anyways, I yelped around to find a good local company, and strawberry appliance was able to make it out within a few hours. The guys were friendly, replaced the duct from the wall to the machine with a more pliable one so that would stop coming undone, and all this went well. The issue was the connection on the opposite side of the wall had come undone from the work they did, so essentially all the hot air wouldn't have ducted directly outside. I'm sure this would have caused some moisture issues, and I would have expected them to check that before they wrapped up, but they appreciated me catching it and were able to quickly and easily fix it. Overall I would use them again, but would keep an eye out as they haven't fully gotten my trust yet due to the one mistake on the one time they came out.
