Joeys is a well-known chain with locations across the country, but I recently visited the Sherway Gardens spot for happy hour on a Friday night, and it really impressed me. Happy hour runs daily from 3-6pm and again from 9pm to close, which makes it super convenient. Reservations are easy to make online, and we were seated in the upstairs lounge. The open rooftop gave the space a lively yet relaxed atmosphere, perfect for unwinding at the end of the week. The service stood out : attentive, friendly, and quick without feeling rushed. For happy hour, I tried the Joeys cheeseburger with beer, and it did not disappoint; the burger was juicy, flavorful, and perfectly paired with the drink special. I also sampled the hummus and sushi cone, both great options with fresh flavours. One unique item I couldn't resist (though not on the happy hour menu) was the spring roll stuffed with mashed potato. This is a Joeys signature, and it's a must-try--crispy on the outside, soft and creamy on the inside, and unlike anything you'll find at most chain restaurant. I came here on a Saturday afternoon before heading out to the YYZ airport. We didn't have reservations but got seated right away. The interior of the restaurant was beautiful, spacious and two stories tall. The restaurant is located just right outside the mall. We ordered their sweet potato fries, their katsu chicken salad which they kindly helped split in two separate plates, and an iced oat milk latte. Katsu chicken salad: 5/5 I love this salad, it was so flavorful! The crispiness from the chicken was amazing, with the crispy wonton strips. The salad sauce really elevated the overall dish, making it really light and refreshing. I highly recommend this dish! Sweet potato fries: 4/5 It was good, especially with the aioli sauce but wasn't the best SP fries I've ever had. Wish it was a bit more crispy but overall, not bad. Iced oat milk latte: 3/5 I wasn't the biggest fan of their coffee. It was bitter and the oat milk tasted weird. Not sure if there's a difference in oat milks compared to Canada and the US, but I wouldn't get this again. The staff were super friendly, service was quick, restroom was clean, and overall I enjoyed my experience here. For a chain restaurant, JOEY does very well in all aspects: the food, the service, the ambience. JOEY at Sherway Gardens Mall is actually not inside the mall, but in the same complex. Entrance is right at the parking lot. The inside is pretty big, spanning 2 floors. The main floor has a lot of booth-style seatings and larger dining tables, with a darker interior (and also cooler temperature). The second floor has a bar-like seating area with more sunlight and warmer temperature. The washrooms are located on the second floor. Service is great - fast, friendly, and the server we had was very knowledgeable and knew the ingredients of all the dishes on the menu inside-out. 1) Herb Crush Salmon (truffle beurre blanc, preserved tomatoes, creamy mashed potatoes, snap peas, asparagus) - JOEY was the first and only place we've been to where we we were asked how "well done" we wanted the salmon to be cooked. The server said the salmon would be "medium" and asked if it was okay (i.e. we could've asked for it to made more rare or more well done). We were okay with medium. No other restaurant (that serves salmon) has ever given us this option to choose! The dish came out very colourful with beautiful plating. The salmon was a good size. The green seasonings on top of the salmon, as well as the mashed potatoes and vegetables, were very flavourful. I didn't taste much of the truffle, but it was still delicious nonetheless. The vegetables (snap peas and asparagus) felt overcooked... I would've preferred more crisp vegetables. But it worked well with the creamy mashed potatoes. 2) Oven Roasted Wild Cod (with steamed and crispy rice, snap peas, cauliflower, herbed greens, Thai peanut curry sauce) - We were told that this dish had a bit of a kick, so we asked for the spicy peppers and peanut curry sauce to be served on the side, which they happily accommodated. The cod was nicely cooked, fluffy, and nicely seasoned on top. The cauliflower and snap peas were more on the soft side... wish they were more crisp. The steamed and crispy rice had a nice soft texture, that was mixed with bits of almond pieces which added a nice crunch. The peanut curry sauce was not spicy at all. I tasted more of the curry than the peanuts. I really liked the herbed greens that this dish came with. 3) Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes (crab, shrimps, and corn with panko crust, apple fennel salad, house-made tartar, toasted almonds) - LOVED the crab cakes here. There was minimal panko crust covering (only a light layer of panko crust on top, just enough to give it a nice crunch effect), and you could see actual big pieces of crab and corn in the crab cakes. First time coming back here in a while and I'd say the food is great! To be honest, I'm surprised with some of the negative reviews that I've read here since the service we had was really good. I came here with my friend for a small celebration. She decided to get the steak and sushi, while I got the steak and ravioli. The steak itself was really tasty and cooked just as we asked - medium rare. The ravioli was very creamy and the prawns added a nice touch. I had a chance to steal her sushi and try the teppanyaki sauce - both delicious! I really loved the salmon sushi they had and I can totally see myself coming here just for that. Albeit it is not a traditional sushi restaurant and more "westernized" I think even sushi enthusiasts will appreciate the dishes here. I cannot give a high enough review to this restaurant! I have dined here several times, and each time brought a new group of friends to show them what a wonderful place this is. Each time I've dined here I have been absolutely knocked over with the food taste and quality, and don't get me started on their egg yolk margaritas. From the moment you step inside you feel the hip vibe of the space, while also getting a lovely upscale flavor as well. Over my past various visits the staff have always made me and my guests feel like we were the number one priority. There is a small army of people running around with food and drinks, and even though you may interact with 3-4 servers / staff throughout the visit, there is never any confusion or miscommunication which happens nearly everywhere else. This visit we ordered the burger slider trio and the homemade guacamole- out of this world tasty. I'm not even joking when I say these sliders were melt in your mouth tasty, and the guacamole was done to perfection and paired great with the fresh chips. If I didn't leave nearly two hours away in the US, I would be here weekly. I'm already looking forward to my next trip here, and it hasn't even been a week. read more

Joeys, Earls, Cactus Club seem to be in every neighbourhood and mall which is pretty convenient but I never had any cravings to go. This time we were at the mall and decided to get something nearby and Cactus club was incredibly busy so we opted for Joeys instead. My first time back was actually a pleasant experience. I'm pretty surprised at the taste of the food. Jumbo crab cakes: crab, shrimp, corn with panko crust served with tartar sauce, this was pretty good. The mixture of sweet, savoury, creamy flavors worked well together and the apple fennel salad was tangy and crunchy Yellowfin tuna salad: does everyone go here for this? I remember having this when I came in the past and I think the flavours/textures were all on point. No wonder its such a hit! Prawn lobster ravioli: This was decent but not amazing, I felt it was too salty and something about the cheese threw me off. Pricing was comparable to a King St. restaurant, so I'd rather try a new restaurant I haven't been to. But I would come back next time I'm by a mall or before seeing a movie etc. for the convenience and consistency of the food. read more

Joey is a very eye pleasing restaurant that looks to have very good COVID procedures in place. The patio is open with good amounts of shading for those who prefer a little cool instead of being in the hot sun. I came, party of 3, and was directed to a patio table, sanitized, with a 10 minute wait. It wasn't too bad of a wait considering when we sat down, there was a line up of people behind us. Within about 8 minutes we were greeted by our server and brought drinks. Our server was very nice and down to earth. It took 3 minds, however, and about 10 minutes to realize that they weren't going to give us menus so we had to look it up. They were advertising the Joey app to be downloaded so you can pay for your meal right from the app. Assuming that was where the menu was, we downloaded the app and started to peruse the menu. What we ordered - Cobb Salad, smash burger, bbq salmon rice bowl. Cobb salad looked quite pretty. The chicken was flavourful and well cooked. Smash burger - patty was cooked to perfection. Bbq salmon rice bowl - the salmon was grilled to a nice medium rare so it wasn't dry. There was a good mix of greens and veg, served with chopsticks. There was a sticky sweet teriyaki sauce that completed the dish, and also destroyed it slightly for me. Way too overpowering with the sodium. My rice was all covered with the sauce so I couldn't even balance it with the light flavour of the rice. I finished about half the rice before I couldn't take the salt anymore. There is happy hour at this location after 3pm. I didn't know about it: no one in my party knew about it until we ordered and overheard someone talk about it at another table. So we asked the server. She checked the time after telling us it only starts after 3. It was 3:06. We made our order at 2:58. The app does not have the happy hour menu. You must go to their website to see the happy hour menu. This was very frustrating for us as customers who haven't been to joey's. It would have been nice for the server to tell us that there was a happy hour menu starting at 3 since it was so close to the time. Actually, it would have been even better if she could have told us where to get the menu. She didn't even know that the app was missing the happy hour menu. So we ordered the truffle fries. The best thing I ate that meal actually. The fragrant truffle oil on crisp straw fries and the parsley on top really finished the app. They had Parmesan on top as well. It's definitely not parmigiana reggiano as the flavour Of the cheese was lacking. We had to wave down a server near the end of the meal because ours never came to check and see if we needed a top up of water. Just a pass by 'how is everything' moment, and then watching her go to the same 2-3 tables multiple times during our meal. For the patio and the number of tables filled, I wish they were a bit more attentive especially with the aqua situation. The app only allows you to pay the whole bill so if you're splitting the bill with your party you will need to wait and pay the old fashioned way. read more

Joey's at Sherway is an Etobicoke classic. Popped in with 2 of my friends after a shopping trip for happy hour and we had a great experience here. We put our names down on a waitlist but it was only 30-45 mins before we were called in. Our servers were so chill and fun to talk to - we covered everything from Totoro to superman pushups and calisthenics at the gym. One of us didn't know what to order so they recommended the tuna poké bowl. Together we ordered the Korean fried cauliflower, grilled corn guac, regular fries, tuna poké and I got a peach bellini. Everything tasted fantastic - I was surprised to see tomatoes in the poké but Joey's has a westernized twist on its dishes so it made sense. If you're hungry while shopping and don't mind waiting a bit before you get a table this is a perfect spot. Parking wasn't too difficult. There are lots of spots and it's not overcrowded. There are stickers on the floor just in case there's a line for a table at JOEY, all 6ft apart. There are also signs requiring face coverings in certain areas. They built the patio before stage 3 reopening pretty quickly and they've reopened the inside of the restaurant somewhat (not at full capacity). The revolving door in front is closed for business during COVID, the hostess is right beside a door that is kept open to prevent touching the door. Prices haven't changed too much from pre-covid, everything is set for you outside on the patio. Thankfully there was no wait. Menu is on your phone, you just scan something and it directs you to a website on your phone. Service wasn't on point today. Server did not check up on us at all, my water was not refilled, neither did the server ask if I wanted another. Was getting thirsty. Burger and steak frites weren't too bad. Cooked well. Burger was great. Got to meet the GM, Lisa as well, finally! After being a regular for so long.
