Well. Unfortunately I have to leave a bad review. I would do this but for what happened at the end. Alphonso does my hair. I had chemo and my hair is finally growing back I wanted like a beige platinum look and showed pics. I got a greyish tone instead. I came back for a re toner and it was a very awkward experience like he wasn't talking to me ( which is really important to understanding what your customer wants) i even asked if if he was mad at me. He said no but didn't talk or ask questions. The clarifying shampoo didn't work so he put a different toner in. I left with Grey hair like not blond at all and him daying, thats it thats the one youre loiking for. I even said maybe im communicating it wrong but I did have pictures of what I wanted. Shouldn't be that hard. 2 days in a row and it just got worse and damaged. While I was walking out his dog bit me and he laughed and said are you ok? I couldn't wait to get out of there. Went somewhere else today 3 days In a row now. She put a pearl toner on and I have the hair I wanted. She even said can I trim it its really uneven and she didn't even charge me. It's beautiful. I will be contacting the State Board and letting them know about this business. As it is, the owner had the audacity to call me a liar, and the best he could do was offer me a coupon and to get my hair done again by Erika. No thanks! I wanted my money back and never got it. So much money down the drain! And as it is, this place is stupidly overpriced. And to top that off, she called my boyfriend's phone back (he had called the salon to complain when I got into the car because I was emotional and in tears because my hair was fried with highlights) to tell him that what she did to my hair was not her fault. And she talked poorly about me to another customer that didn't even know me, and I was informed of this information by the customer herself. Not to mention, before I left I noticed that Erika had an expired license and I wish I had taken a picture or at least written the number down, despite her watching me. When I called the salon myself the next day to speak to the owner, Erika answered and tried to berate me, and when I asked to speak to the owner she wouldn't let me. I had to keep calling and fight tooth and nail to get the owner's contact information and have him call me back, only for him to tell me that Erika was calling me a liar, and so was he. My mistake was going to this salon because my usual hairstylist that I've gone to for 3+ years was out of town and I really needed my hair done for an event. Next time I will wait for my stylist. I've never had any problems like this elsewhere, just this salon. Very unprofessional place with unprofessional staff. This business should be shut down so they can't continue to do this to customers. They don't deserve to get any more business and their customers don't deserve to be treated poorly with poor service. read more

I moved to Indiana 5 yrs ago so I fly out to California twice a year to have my hair done at Mozart's. Everyone there at Mozart's is amazing. They are so nice and professional at the salon. BE AFRAID. BE VERY AFRAID. Revision: Dec. 12 @2a.m. It was an exhaustive 2 days (Fri & Sat); Winter Formal prep is not for the faint@. Now that the dance is over; I can reflect on the factors leading up to the cause of this most unexpected outcome and unnecessary stress. I know hair appointments take longer than anyone expects; and I know hair color & textures process differently. Who wouldn't be a bit disappointed, when after spending 3.5 hrs waiting for your daughter's highlights touch up and a haircut to be completed; but you quickly realize something went wrong something went wrong ... terribly wrong. Botched haircuts can't be fixed; because the cut hair can't be reattached. Highlights & lowlights have GONE orange... Stylist deciding to use the wrong color toner; could be career suicide. Upon realizing the error in highlights. Haircut wasn't the long layers w/ face framing requested. Slight panic sets in. Unable to rectify the mistake. We're invited to return the next morning to re-do color. I offered payment ... but he refused to accept it. Home is where we truly could see the unbelievable errors in the cut. Mind boggling: face framing short Bob in front with her long hair in back. She made a ponytail and the Bob immediately fell out against her face. OMG! Omg! My daughter reluctantly agrees to return (11:30 a.m) .... I didn't say a damn thing to the stylist. Daughter made it clear he wasn't to cut to try to fix, his mistake. He quickly started on the bleach. He invited me to see the color he had bleached her hair before he would apply toner. The wrong toner was his mistake from the previous night. He used the wrong toner. As I questioned the shade of toner he would be using this 2nd time; his true colors appeared... in DIVA PINK: He became belligerent. Raising his voice at me. Telling me he didn't want to hear me.; as if I had been talking shit to him. I had not said a damn thing about his F up in the total of 7.5 hrs we had been there. There was no badmouthing I needed to keep my daughter calm. "Only what shade is this toner?" At the end of 4 hrs (day 2) in this toxic environment. I again offered payment. He fused his portion. I said Thank you just as a gesture as we left. I'm not even going to get started on the woman who knows only 1 style of curls using a 1 inch I iron. Yuk! To the Stylist: YOU f'd up? Next time you do, don't blame the client for questioning every move you make to correct it. Being defensive ,after you invited me to see your work is idiotic . In front of your colleagues, you're offended by being questioned....whatever? Highlights could be fixed but the BOTCHED HAIRCUT couldn't be. No amount of free services will immediately grow back the hair length she lost; not to mention the horrific shape of the ear flaps you left her ... Now what? NOW WHAT? I made an appointment with Al the salon owner and I got the worst highlights you could get. He over processed my hair and I specifically told him my hair lightened up fast and it literally turns white. He had me waiting with my foils for a while. Meanwhile, I'm thinking that he took what I said into consideration of what I said. But.... He didn't and when he washed my hair out and I saw my self in the mirror, I was horrified. I also saw his facial expressions and he looked scared. I gave him a change and I was like " ok let's fixed it with the toner". When the toner was out of my hair, it was orange and very brassy not what I asked for! My mom was lucky their to say something because went I told him this is not what I ask for he denied it and said is ok I can fix it. I also ask to get a hair cut which I ask for face framing layers and he literally gave me a short thick bang it the front. I could help it but I cried in the chair. My mom was defending me because he was giving us a attitude and we were saying this is nothing that I had asked for and he BOTCHED my hair. Jeff is awesome! I hadn't been able to find an excellent stylist in Whittier for 5 years. I was referred to Jeff and am very happy with the cut, color, and styling he performed on my awful hair. I have the absolute worst hair - coarse, dry, and frizzy. He spent extra time with me teaching me which products would be best and taught me how to style my hair so that I wouldn't keep damaging it. Having been referred here by a friend who has great style, I was open. I needed a change from the usual hair stylist; I wanted a fresh pair of hands and eyes; I also needed a lower price than my usual stylist (it was getting costly). I made an appt w Alfonso. When I got there, I waited about 30 min after scheduled time. It didn't bother me too much as I got to look through the magazines for some eye catching looks as I sipped on hot tea. I briefly told him what I wanted and how I usually style it. I was open, what the hey. He cut my hair with such intensity it was cool. However, when he blow dried my hair I honestly couldn't wait for him to finish. He literally burned my ears red. I told him once that it burned and he apologized... but it happened again. I just closed my eyes and clentched my feet together. I don't know, perhaps, he wanted to rush throw the blow dry because I was the last customer? Maybe he gets so into it that he doesn't take notice and he almost scalded my ears? I'm kinda in between, I love the overall new look but if I go back again, I would need to inform him to please caution the ears (which kinda sux cause stylists should know to be careful in such sensitive areas). A GREAT SALON IN WHITTIER? This is my favorite place to get my haircut in Whittier or anywhere really. The salon is modern, bright and the service is excellent. The stylists are also fun and personable so you don't have to deal with those awkward silences. I got my hair cut here for almost 10 years and I even used to drive 30 miles from West LA. He holds a degree in Design from CSULB and is also an accomplished professional commercial photographer which explains why he holds a command for hair aesthetics. I have a degree in art as well so I am qualified to say this. I was born with a broken and frizzy hair texture but he always manages to color my hair without over-processing it. His cuts always suit my hair and face. He is also so much fun to chat with! Like me, he loves going to concerts and loves Depeche Mode and anything darkwave! He's also a Dodger fan. In spite of the thesis written by Spencer below, I have had nothing but excellent, personable service at Mozart. I used to live in Whittier, and found the place by accident when walking uptown one night. I now live in Orange County, but will make the drive up there even just for retouches. I feel sorry that someone had a bad experience with one person there, but I have gone to two stylists there without incident. I have been using Al, the owner, for the last several years, and will use him as long as he is there. I have long, bone-straight hair ... which is not as easy to cut well as it may seem. My cuts and color with Al are always excellent, even now when I have to cover up more grey than I care to admit. My biggest fear with my dark hair is the fake-ish black look you see on many people, or some weird color not found in nature. Al addressed my concerns, and my used-to-be greys match my normal hair perfectly. It looks healthy and shiny, just like it did decades ago. In fact, my dad was even surprised that I colored my hair, since he couldn't tell a difference. With any stylist, communicate and be honest about what you want, like or don't like. It makes a better experience for everyone. I would heartily recommend Al and Mozart. You don't stay in business for as long as he has without providing good service. read more

I've been going to Mozart for almost five years now. I originally had another stylist there, I wasn't completely convinced with her work, so I switched to another stylist in the salon. I have now switched to "Al" he's the owner of the salon, I have so much faith in his work. Everytime I go to him, I give him a short description of what I want and I tell him to give me something cool and different. Its so cool watching him work, I told him he reminds me of Edward Scissor Hands when he's working. He gets so into his mode, you can tell that he's so focused on what he does. I always leave there feeling beautiful and confident with my hair. The other stylists there also do great work from what I've seen, but for now I'm sticking to Al. You don't need an appointment, but I highly recommend it. You never want to go to a salon feeling like you were rushed through the whole process. The parking is a bit hard to find if you want to park on the same street, although you can park behind the salon. There's a public parking lot behind the building, you should have no trouble parking there. read more

Most salons & stylists do not work Sunday's but these unselfish professionals were giving their free time for a worthy cause. After reading these reviews, I decided to try out Mozart - I'm really glad I did. I used to go to another salon in San Gabriel. They did good work but after several months - it just felt like my stylist and I were not on the same page. Plus it's a good 30-40 minute drive, so I decided to look elsewhere. I called Mozart on a Thursday and was able to make an appointment with Alfonso on Saturday. The receptionist called me on Friday to confirm the appt, which is nice - since I'm pretty busy and prone to bouts of forgetfulness. The layout of the place is very nice, modern, and comfortable. They had a coffee dispenser which is a very nice touch. Even though I had an appt, I had to wait about 10 minutes which is totally cool with me. Gave me time to sip my coffee and check emails on my blackberry. Alfonso is very courteous and attentive. He really wanted to know what I was going for and what style I wanted. He's also the owner and you can tell alot from that. Meaning - if the owner does a give a shit about his customer, you really cant expect the staff to care either. Luckily, this wasnt the case. Alfonso did an amazing job and made sure I was looked after the whole time. The price range was the same as what I paid before and it's about average for a mens hair cut & style. I am a very very hard person to impress when it comes to hair styling, so when my ex sister in law recommended this place I decided to try it out, I've gotten my hair done by 3 different stylist and they are all amazing Carrissa: did an up do for me and it was a 10 Des: Did my 1940's up-do for prom that was a 10 Maria: stripped the black out of my hair and did it bright red and also trimmed my bob that was a 10. They are all amazing and very attentive and helpful I would recommend this salon to anyone. This is the best place I've been yet! I really love this place because of Jorge! He is the absolute best! He ALWAYS give me the best hair cut. The service is great and I love the location. Parking is a bit tough to find but it doesn't hurt to walk a little if you park on one of the next streets over. There is also a parking garage you can park in if you don't want to find a spot on the street. All in all, I gave Mozart 5 stars because you can't beat the friendly, fun, atmosphere... Do not EVER go to this salon! I had a 4pm appointment for a blow dry and cut. I walked in 10 minutes early and was told that my stylist John T. had left his phone somewhere and was running late. After waiting another 15 minutes, I was told by a different employee that he "left his wallet and is stuck in downtown LA traffic". I asked what time he would actually be getting there and they said they had no idea. I heard the employee talking to the stylist on the phone telling him I had a gift certificate and at that point everyone was rude and stopped speaking to me! I tore up the gift certificate and told them to expect my honest review on Yelp. This is being written one week after the incident happened because I was so upset at the time and I wanted to be fair in my assessment. This is honestly what happened. Both upsetting and humiliating. I was a tad worried I wasn't going to get my hair done same day because I originally had an appointment with another stylist who informed me Brent was better with extensions, which I appreciated because he was honest with me. I was lucky enough to have Brent squeeze me in. He works very quickly, which I really like because I tend to get antsy, but he is very thorough. I was glad to just happen to find this place. A review for Mozart the Salon- Uptown Whittier Okay, this is my first review ever on yelp and in fact I created an account on yelp just to review this salon! Now, this seems like i'm gonna have plenty of good things to say about this place but, in fact I have very little good to say about Mozart the Salon. I arrived on time for my appointment with Alfonso, he offered me some water or coffee while I waited... The wait for my hair cut took about 30-35 minutes!!! Strike one. Next was the shampoo which was no more than a 40 second rinse (If only I had a timer!) Strike two. Now, on to the meat and potatoes of this review. The haircut. I had long straight hair, the easiest to cut I'm told. I brought in a picture of how I wanted my haircut to be in the style of and Alfonso did such a piss poor attempt on it. I asked him to make more adjustments on it as he went on with the cut but he pretty much stuck with what he knew and gave me a standard 'super cuts" male hair cut. On top of all that this guy was rough on my head, and I mean rough, I would like to consider myself having a high threshold for pain (since I skateboard and fall all the time as most skateboarders do) and this bozo left my head aching as if he had been playing the bongos on my head for 30 minutes! During my haircut he was pulling on my hair, digging his ape like fingers on my head and tussling around my hair in an attempt to make it seem like he was some crazy European hair stylist or maybe it was to seem like he knew what he was doing. Nice try, strike three. Finally through out all that time he was cutting my hair he did not even try to have a conversation with me. I mean at least try to act like you give half a crap about who you're taking your money from buddy. Strike four I guess... All in all I would have to say I wouldn't pay $35 plus a tip to go there for a cut again, or at least not with Alfonso. There are plenty of other places in uptown Whittier to get your hair done at, I WOULD recommend Paloma and friends in uptown it cost $10 more there for men haircuts but those people know what they're doing.
