Simple, small place in the neighborhood. The woman who did my nails was so sweet, didn't catch her name but she was on the older side, reminded me of my grandma and with that same attention to detail as well. My sister went in to take her gel polish off and I just wanted to swap my polish color. Both services came to $5 each, and were done efficiently, attentively, and politely. Though I was just doing a polish color change she still attempted to file/shape my nails for me and offered me lotion. I would love to drop by again for the Mani & Pedi combo ($21), gel polish, or a wax one of these days. There's free WiFi, an added bonus in such an unassuming space. My gel manicure looked ok when I got it done on Wednesday. Not great because of cuticles are not cleaned well and square shape I like is not consistent. Anyway, I wasn't mad at it. Now it's Saturday and they already start chipping. Now I'm mad! It should last for 2 weeks minimum and have $$ signs, not one. I made an appointment here due to a high rating and one dollar $ign. I noticed that inexpensive has a different meaning to people. I personally look at the neighborhood the business is in and compare it to similar places. Unfortunately, it's much harder to do that without an actual price list posted. Plus price often changes but the dollar signs stay the same. Moreover, algorithms showing you review not in the newest to oldest order but Yelp Order, whatever that means. Sure you can change the setting but it doesn't stay changed, unfortunately. ‍ By the way, literally the next block on Ave U it's $20 gel mani, which is 20% cheaper. read more

Okay so I just want to give an update. When I last wrote a review about this place, I was specific about the service and the person I went to. Let me tell you TODAY - I went in for a gel mani and pedi, Diane (my usual tech) was not there. And I was like damn. BUT I had one woman do my pedi and a different one my mani. To not my surprise at all, they both did beyond exceptional work with my hands and feet. Very thorough work and cleaning, and perfected everything. So now I (and Yelp) knows that it's not just one or two people at this place who are good, it's everyone. And maybe that's why this business is always thriving, busy and full. This area is full of nail salons, but none of them compare to the quality of MQ. Sophia was so kind and patient with me. I got a set of acrylic tips done at another nail salon in the area but they were pretty worn down and breaking off. I asked Sophia to remove the old nails and replace them with a fresh set and a new shape. She was extremely gentle and detailed with everything she did. She spent 2 hours on my nails!! Not once did I feel like she was annoyed or rushing me. She was very friendly and made me laugh. My nails came out GORGEOUS and looked really natural. I got so many compliments. The only downside is the place is quite small and there are only 3 drying machines that are cramped next to each other, but for the quality and service this is a minor inconvenience that can be overlooked. read more

My friend did her nails and she was super pleased. She ended up getting acrylics by Sophia. Prices are great and they are also super friendly which is a plus. Of the plethora of nail salons on Avenue U, I prefer to come to this one, and there are many reasons why. Pros: - It is always open later than most (I get off work a little later, so after an hour train ride to get back home, this place is still open and taking customers) - On par with price in the area, if not a little cheaper - Ladies are super nice, even with the language barrier - MOST IMPORTANT: A regular manicure lasts a LOT longer here than some other places in the neighborhood. I've only gotten manicures here, so I cannot say much for the other services. I have also considered a gel manicure once since it costs $20 (a fair price) but decided to opt for regular manicure instead. I forgot how much the manicure costs there, but I remember it was very reasonable, given all the pros listed above. Cons: - Not the most hygienic (its small and dingy looking). The tools look dull. - The place is small, so when there is a wait, be prepared to wait. Given the pros and cons above, this place is still my favorite on Avenue U. After calling another nail salon down the block, they were so eagerly trying to push me away telling me if I don't come at 6, they won't take me...so I called MQ and the ladies were super sweet. I visited this salon multiple times in the last year to get acrylic tips and fill-ins. I believe it was $20 for tips and $15 for fill-ins. They don't charge extra for round tips and that was a total plus because I know of some salons that do that. Regular mani/pedis are $13. They have OPI, Essi and Duri nail colors. So all in all, this place is pretty inexpensive. Most of the ladies who work here are very sweet even though we don't speak the same language. They try to converse with you sometimes which is cool if you like that. I generally had good experiences at this salon but there was and incidence or two where my cuticles were cut with the electric nail file and that's a huge issue. I'd say this place is fine if you want to get a regular mani/pedi because its so cheap and their colors are fairly nice. But stay cautious of some of these ladies with electric files. read more

I really wanted to like this nail salon. But, it was by far the WORST nail salon I have been too. It is very cheap - $5 for a manicure, $6 for a pedicure, and + $3 for French manicure. I requested a French manicure and was hoping that it would be at least a decent manicure, but it was horrible. Julie did converse with me and made me feel comfortable. However, she did not do a good job! Three of my cuticles bleed! One of my nails got a hair in it and she did not even bother to fix it. The tools were not clean at all! It was dusty and the towels were dirty. Worst part, the white tip of my French came out so uneven and lumpy!!! (I guess that is what you get for $8.) I felt bad for her because she is an older lady (a grandmother to be exact), and she is still working. I did not have the heart to request another technician when I saw Julie squinting her eyes while painting my nails. So, I just sat there and took it all in - blood, pain, and uneven nails! I still gave her a nice tip, not because she did a great job, but because I felt sad for her. I am just going to pay more for a good manicure. read more

The wait is horrible being that there is only 3 sometimes two nail technicians. I got a pedi, tips, and wax. my pedi was neatly done however, my tips were done horribly. I had glue on my fingers in between my nails. The nails were unevenly cut. I pointed this out to the nail technician and she said she would fix it and did not do much. She then moved on to waxing my arms which was the most horrible experience she kept using the same wax paper and sticking it on and off repeatedly. I had to tell her to please stop she then wiped my armpit roughly and plucked what ever hairs were left behind. As she plucked she was plucking my skin. I told her and she still continued I had to completely tell her to stop. I won't ever be returning to this nail salon every again and I do not by any means recommend it.never again read more
