ABS and TPMS light were both on. Hao and his team fixed it. No BS and extremely nice service. Hao went above and beyond to find the root and fixed it. It is a common problem and could cost a fortune to fix it. He and his team got it done and he even picked me up from my work so I did not have to walk to the shop. They changed me very reasonable price. That's the service I am talking about. Simple honest mechanics with passion to get your car fixed. Drove my wife's Kia for a due oil change, they checked the oil and found out it was still good since the car was driven very little. Multiple occasions, I asked them to help on checking some "old car symptoms" and they always got that done the same day and refused my payment. They won't charge you for unnecessary repairs period. They were able to take a look at my car pretty quickly even though I did not have an appointment -- they also have wi-fi, so I was able to work. These guys are the best, and very honest mechanics (imagine that). They have the best rates for oil changes, as I'm OCD and like to bring my own oil and filter yet have a third party mechanic actually handle the business of draining and putting in the new oil. My wife brought her BMW for an oil change, except she mistakenly brought in the wrong oil. Not only did they drain the oil (and saved it so I could use it in the future), they also put in the correct oil that I dropped off after my wife called me. The first oil put inside the BMW would have been fine, but I had wanted my wife to use the more exotic oil (that costed way more money) to be used. All of this was done without any extra charge to boot! Go to these guys! They're one of the good ones! read more

After an alignment, another car mechanic tried to pressure me into replacing both the brakes (which was required, but it wasn't so dire that my car was unsafe to drive like was suggested to me) and control arms (which weren't needed). I came here for a second opinion -- the folks at Mr.Auto SD more than willingly took a look, tightened some parts, and suggested I try a different alignment place. Sure enough, the tightening did the trick, and it turns out I didn't need to do that expensive control arm replacement after all. These guys are awesome. My only worry is mechanics who try to scam... the last one tried to and i was looking for a new one. I found this place last year. Vu the owner is the best experience i have had with mechanics so far. Easy to reach, quick on appointments, professional, honest and sincere work with. Also i think he is an expert with Volkswagen because there are all the certificates and awards from Volkswagen in his office. When i needed smog test which is not even done at his place he arranged for it at another and helped me out during my lunch hour rush. I got two big repairs and a few minor repairs here. The first big repair was the engine swap for my old 06 Mustang (sold in 2016) and the second was reviving (engine mounts, coolant system, etc.) 04 VW GTI which I bought from auto auction for my girlfriend. They're not only damn good at fixing all sorts of cars, but also they're really clear with pricing. Turnaround time is much shorter than other car repair shops around the area. I have a 2003 jetta with 150.000 miles. I was running the car for about 20.000 miles with the check engine light on because I am a lazy idiot. I got a quote from another shop which was 1.5x more expensive. They fixed it quick and reasonably priced. After a while, my car failed the smog test because of some not finished diagnostics. I came back and Vu fixed everything for FREE. That is great customer service. It took him at least 30 minutes. This guy definitely knows what he is doing and knows Volkswagens!! read more

I was referred to MR Master Mechanics by a friend a few years ago and glad I remembered the name due to my recent car issue. I was running errands in Mira Mesa and my car began to overheat. I immediately pulled over and noticed coolant spewing out from under my car. My Infiniti has never had any major issues since ownership but with 113,000 miles, something was bound to happen. It was already late in the day so I called MR Master Mechanics. They said they were fully booked but would take my car and work in between jobs. I had it towed to the shop the next day and they were able to take my car in due to a few cancellations. They identified a cracked radiator so they had it replaced. The car was still overheating and the root issue turned out to be a bad thermostat. The thermostat was replaced and the car was running back to normal. MR Master Mechanics called me to update me on the diagnosis and to get my approval on the work needed to get done. When I picked up my car, the mechanic Phil walked me through what was done as well as show me the other areas of the car that needed immediate attention. It turns out my wheels alignment are off which are causing the inner tire to wear unevenly. Now I have an appointment for a new set of tires and a 4 wheel alignment. Update: (I also find it ironic that Vu claims to take reviews seriously and comments on all reviews except for mine. If you took your reviews seriously, a little apology on behalf of the damage you caused my car would be nice.) Just note, this is my first Yelp Review ever. Disappointment level = extreme. I came to these guys because of the amount of 5 star reviews that were given regarding quick oil changes, friendly service, etc. Well, let's just say I had a completely different result. My experience at MR Master was not a bad one, everybody was friendly and like most other reviewers note, they did an inspection of my entire car and told me that some other parts need replacement. HOWEVER, THESE GUYS WERE SLOPPY. I had my oil changed because I had to make the long drive from SD to SF the following week and wanted my car to be in it's top condition. Little did I know, my car was being damaged on the drive up to SF and the drive down because of the incompetent work done by these guys. I took my car to a Toyota Dealer right away because my car began to make funny noises on my drive down and a bunch of warning lights on my dashboard came on. The Toyota dealer found that MR FAILED TO PLACE A NEW RING around my car's oil filter, causing the oil to leak from the bottom. By the time I had gotten to SD, I had ZERO oil in my car and significant damage would have been done to my engine (possibly costing me thousands of $$$) had I had to drive any further. Even worse, be towed back to SD. Upon further inspection, it was shown that the WRONG OIL was used for my car too. (MAJOR problems here). Also, MR charged me more for an "extra quart of oil". I trusted them, but Toyota later told me the extra quart wasn't necessary. These guys cost me worry, a ton of extra money to get inspected at Toyota and get my oil changed AGAIN, put me in danger and showed their unreliability big time. "Master" mechanics --?? I will be going back to ask for a refund. read more

That was okay when I had my Toyota Camry because the prices were somewhat reasonable, but after I purchased Peyton Manning (my new car), I get palpitations when it's time to settle the bill with Infiniti. Finally, a good friend convinced my dumb ass to give MR Master Mechanics a try and now I'm sold based on their excellent service. I would rather drive the 2 hours from Palm Springs to San Diego for maintenance than to be repeatedly raped of funds by Infiniti. Place is AWESOME. I would come here for all of my jobs from now on. I had a problem with my car which wouldn't start sometimes, and I called in and got an appointment. Brought it in and got it checked out. They check it out and said "Nothing seems to be wrong, but just in case, we'll charge your battery and leave it overnight to see how it looks". They did that and just told me to pick it up. I asked how much it was. "It's okay, we didn't really do anything to it. We won't charge anything". This kind of customer service is hard to come by. I literally just got my seat belt fixed here and came out very satisfied. 185 for the part and 85 for the service fee. Total was 288 and something cents. The part is the same pretty much anywhere in SD but 5 dollars less service fee wise. Vu was the one who took my first few calls as I was checking out prices and also the one that fixed my seat belt when I went into the auto shop. The process was under an hour and the least hassle I've dealt with at a shop in awhile. I went to the appointment thinking it would take longer and that I might need to take a nap but sadly, Vu did his job too well and now I'm back at work still sleepy and writing this review. The shop itself is the easiest to access on Mira Mar and the guys working there are really friendly. I definitely suggest to anyone that needs the services that they offer to give them a call. According to the dealership on multiple occasions, they had suggested that I replaced my brakes. By the mileage on my car, I figured it must be time for new brakes. Brought it in to Hao twice for other maintenance and at both times, he told me that I still have enough pads on my brakes and that it wasn't necessary to replace yet. I honestly didn't think I need to have it replace yet either, but figured what do I know?? I am happy that MR Mechanic was honest and didn't try rip me off. My idle on my car recently idled at around 2300, sometimes my car wasn't able to be put in drive, and I needed an oil change bad. Same old story.... do a good job for a new customer and when he gets used to you start taking him for granted. No answers to calls, the shop seemed understaffed as one guy was doing everything. So naturally didn't have any time to listen to the repair that I wanted. Asked me to take a bus to work after dropping my car, despite having taken an appointment... the bus never arrived for the next 20 minutes. Needless to say, I took my keys and drove away. This is my second service visit - and first since they moved to their new location. It is a bit tricky to find, but that's compensated for the fact that District 23 Brewing is right around the corner and Ballast Point and Reckless Brewing are only a 10 minute walk. However if you want to just hang out, the waiting room is nicer than the original location and has free WI-Fi and water. I contacted them via Yelp for a quote on an 80,000 mile service. They were cheaper than the other two highly rated VW shops and promised that they could finish it by COB if I brought it after lunch. Surprisingly, they actually knocked it out in 2 hours. More importantly, they used all factory spec parts and gave me a detailed rundown of the condition of each system serviced. Too bad they're not open on SAT, but I'll definitely be back for my 90K. read more

Ok, I'll admit I'm a total newb with anything concerning cars. I'm a young woman and my father has always taken care of my car for me. This was my first time taking my car to get an oil change on my own (sad I know). I chose this place based on the great reviews, because I didn't want to be duped into wasting money on things my car didn't need. Phil was SO helpful. He not only changed my oil really quickly and fixed up the screw on my license plate for me, but he also showed me that my tires were COMPLETELY worn down. He said it was really dangerous and could pop at any second. He referred me to Discount Tires, and called them for me arranged the best possible deal for me. He spent about ten minutes of his own time helping me out, even though his company would make NO money off of this. I am still amazed by the quality of service. Best pricing. Honest assessments. Accommodating hours of operation. I brought in my 2000 Honda Civic on a Saturday for an oil change and to find out why my car was so loud. During the oil change, the tech thoroughly inspected the whole car and found that I had a hole in my muffler. They had a new OEM muffler delivered within an hour and installed the same day. I was glad to have gotten it taken care of in one trip and very happy for the low priced labor and parts costs. Just recently I brought in my in-laws Nissan Xterra for an oil change after I got off work at 6:30pm! I don't know of any shop that opens this late.
