This morning, I was already in the parking lot of the dealership when I got the estimate to replace brake pads + rotors for my 2018 Corolla iM. I was expecting to get all 4 sets of brake pads and rotors replaced, but it turned out I only need to change out the front sets. I am very happy with the service, how easy and pain free the process was, and it was all done with OEM parts. They ranged from absurd to offensive, but thankfully I did some more research and stumbled across MR Auto which offered an actual reasonable price. TL;DR The absolute worst customer service interaction I have ever had. Extremely unprofessional and rude treatment from the manager Hao. *I waited a week in hopes that the owner would contact me with some resolution. Unfortunately he did not, although I was told that he had been emailed about the situation by one of his employees. I also want to note that once I started to feel uncomfortable, I began recording this interaction, about 10 minutes of video.* My car died, so I had my car towed to MR Auto. Prior to showing up, I called in to describe what was going on; I was told it was likely a problem with my alternator. When I arrived I was checked in by Hao, who I remember being the manager from the last time I was there. First thing he did was give me an estimate to sign for replacing the alternator. I asked what if it wasn't the alternator, because they had not diagnosed it in-person yet. Hao said they would test it first and to just sign anyway. I said ok. When they got my car off the tow truck, Hao came back to tell me it's probably just the battery. I asked if he could explain, as opposed to it being the alternator. He said "you told me you have a new battery right?" My first response was "no, I don't think I said that." He strongly insisted, and while not impossible, I tried to assure him I did not know when the battery was from. He was very persistent so I gave in to his position and said maybe I did say something like that? He said "see yeah you told me it was new." Throughout those 2-3 questions I asked, Hao grew visibly irritated, and I couldn't understand why he was getting angry. I wanted to clarify about the battery vs the alternator so that I could have an idea of how time-consuming/costly (or not) the repair might be. At this point, he's fed up and abruptly ends the conversation by saying "we'll test it and call you, goodbye," and slamming the partition closed before I can say anything else. If he had let me respond, I would've told him I would wait in the lobby while they tested my car, which I did. After waiting a little while, Hao comes back saying, "your battery is five years old, you gave me the wrong information." His tone is already hostile, so I give a very neutral response in order to avoid triggering him further. I say ok that's alright then. He gives me the quote to replace the battery and I say it's all good. Then I ask him, "may I please have your owner's phone number?" This is the breaking point for Hao. He goes off, "so why do you want to complain about me?" "I already answered your questions," "You shouldn't have gave me the wrong information." He says that he can't give me the owner's phone number. I tell him that I don't think this customer service interaction was right and the way he acted was very unprofessional. Hao replies with, "why do you want to talk to the owner," "okaaay I see the problem," and "I see so it's an attitude thing huh." Since our conversation wasn't going anywhere productive, I ask if I can speak to anybody else there for some help. Another mechanic, Huy, comes in, and asks me what's going on. Huy was very understanding as I explained everything. I ask Huy to please have the owner contact me, as I couldn't get confirmation from Hao. Huy says he will, and he helps finish taking care of my car. The way that Hao behaved that day was unacceptable and truly mind-boggling. Everybody has off days, but as a manager he should know better. It's not the customer's responsibility to tip-toe around an employee/manager who has no patience for several questions. I cannot emphasize enough what a terrible experience it was and I wish I could've gotten out of there sooner, if only it weren't for my car already being towed here. read more

I went a couple times and was pretty impressed, but on my most recent visit they unfortunately charged me for some things that I wasn't consulted about. Especially frustrating because some of the things I'd made very clear I didn't have the money for so I made sure to ask them to not do anything beyond the quote and stressed my limitations specifically so this wouldn't happen. I called after and was offered free labor if I came back for the job which is probably more than most would offer, but I'd have just preferred the refund for the thing I didn't ask for. I do want to make it clear I believe they're fair and I don't feel like they tried to upsell or anything, I believe this shop is trustworthy and all the work they've done has held up well. It's quite unpleasant when the AC goes out in the middle of the heat wave. I thought it would just be a simple AC relay switch replacement, but it was more to it than that. Anxiety kicked in so I made contact with several repair centers. Out of all of them, MR Auto SD had the best price. I had to reconfirm the total cost with them because it was below the asking price from the other places. Communication with Vu was very good. He answered all my questions and concerns and return my messages in a timely manner. One of my concerns was the amount of days that I was going to be w/o a vehicle, but he reassured that the AC repair will only take one day to complete. The morning I dropped off the car, Hao was welcoming and gave me a rundown of the repair. He mentioned that I will be getting a phone call once the repair has been completed. Sure enough at around 2PM in the afternoon, I received a call that my car was ready for pick up. Alas! Cool air has been restored, which mean I didn't have to put up with a nagging wife & kids. We took our Miata in for an oil leak, suspecting that the front and rear seals on the transmission were old and cracked. That would have required removing and replacing the trans... big job. Upon further inspection it turned out that the leak was not in those seals but in the trans case... an even bigger job. They called us right away and advised us so we didn't have anything done. They only charged us a few bucks to put it on the lift and diagnose it so kudos to them for their honesty. We'll definitely try them again when we need other services. read more

I will definitely be coming back to this auto shop if there's anything wrong with my car. Great customer service and the prices aren't a scam. One of my headlights in my car went out last week and I had to get it fixed. I am definitely new at all this car stuff because my parents would usually go and get my car fixed if something was wrong with it and now that I have moved out, I have to figure it all out myself. My mom told me to go to pepboys to get my headlight fixed, so I called them and they said getting it fixed would range around $60. I called my mom to check (bc I'm not that independent obvs) and she said that it seemed too expensive. So I called firestone... also around $60-65. That's when I went to Yelp and looked up places near me and I asked them for quotes. One place replied saying $66... I was losing hope and was just gonna end up at pep boys but MR Auto replied saying it would be around $34!!! I obviously was super happy and called them to see if I could get my car in that morning - they told me to come in whenever and I showed up 45 minutes later to the shop. I went to the shop (it can be a little confusing to get there but if you have a GPS it will be very helpful) and the guy at the front desk helped me out. He got my car fixed within 15 minutes and the price ended up being even cheaper than the $34... it ended up being around $29-30. While other places were asking for DOUBLE that price. This place will not scam you at all, they are very honorable and I definitely will return of my car is ever in trouble and I will recommend them to my friends as well. read more

Came here last minute on a Tuesday afternoon after Autozone deemed it a mechanic-level issue AND after finding out that the other 2 mechanics down the road had a 2+ hour wait time just to get my client's tail light checked out (ridiculous!). When I called they sounded like they were immensely busy with all the repairs that have built up since people haven't been driving as much but was now ramping up again. They were upfront about the cost and made sure to confirm prices to make sure the quote hadn't changed to drastically seeing how parts are supply chains are still feeling some pandemic effects. My 2011 Honda Civic's A/C stopped blowing cold air last October and I was holding off on repairs due to the initial quote I received from the dealership. I decided to go with MR Auto SD because they were located near my office and their quote was nearly half of what the dealership quoted me. The repair also includes a 2-year or 24,000 mile warranty - this sealed the deal. I arrived on a Thursday around 9 AM and was greeted by Hao. He went over my quote and told me my car would be ready in a few hours. I had asked Hao to also check to my brakes needed to be replaced. He called me 30 minutes after I left to confirm that there were no issues with my brakes. Hao called me at 2 PM to tell me my car was ready. There are sooooo many car shops out there and just trying to find one that is honest and reliable is a nightmare! Most of the time it's trial and error. This place was highly referred to me. I'm out doing some running around one morning and just got on the freeway when I lost power to my steering. That was pretty scary and it took a lLOT of elbow grease to maneuver my car off the freeway and to drive it to a parking area. So AAA took about an hour to get to my location. They recommend a car shop that they are affiliated with that was located not far from Mr. Auto SD and said that being a AAA member I would be seen within the hour. I called and was told they wouldn't be able to see me until the next day. I needed my car and Mr. Auto SD was able to get me right away. They replaced 3 things which included a belt that snapped. I left my car at around 1 pm and picked it up at 5 pm. That was about a month ago. I have had no problems regarding that repair. I am very satisfied with the cost of the repair. I feel it's fair and the employees are very friendly and helpful. For any future repairs I will definitely go back and would have no problem recommending them to anyone.
