We enjoyed wedge potatoes and onion rings. Just a heads up, the dining room closes at 8:30, but the carryout counter was open until 9:30pm. Haven't had anything from Mr Chicken in quite a while and thought I would give it another try. BIG MISTAKE!! I ordered the wing dings and the ribs. The windings were something you'd buy at the dollar store... They were that nasty! They were more like pigeon wings than chicken wings... There was no meat on them. They looked nasty and they tasted nasty. The ribs were sort of OK but had a lot of fat on them. The fries were undercooked...the only decent thing was the cole slaw. I don't know what happened to this place, but they used to be really good. I will not be going back. I would rather much have something from chicken shack, even if I have to drive further!!!!!! The best broasted chicken hands down and has been for a good 20 years I know for sure! This is way better than Chicken Shack and I have always been devestated that there isn't an east location. Driving from Rochester Hills is a bit much! The chicken is JUICY! The coleslaw is wayyy better than KFC! Broasted potatoes are great too! As long as I've been coming here, I can't believe I haven't reviewed Mr. Chicken. The place is very unassuming, small inside and very basic decor, but that's not what it's about here. The waitresses are always so friendly and willing to help you navigate what to order if you aren't sure. Now to the more important things, the chicken. I absolutely love their broasted chicken. The flavors are on point. Whether it's dark or white meat, I think you will enjoy it. Their coleslaw is to die for. Sometimes I go there just to get a side of it. I really enjoy their potato wedges as well. They are always cooked perfect. I have had their ribs there, but to be honest, not a huge fan of the ribs. The chicken is wear it's at. On a search for Good Fried Chicken without hitting any Fast Food Chains. Didnt want to just buy a bucket and make sides, didnt want to get it to go, didnt want to spend an arm an a leg. After searching and reading Menus, I found Mr. Chicken. Close enough, had been around for years, reviews were ok, menu had a bucket deal with sides and had fried mushrooms as an appetizer; i was sold. This is one of those places you drive by and dont pay attention to. We walked in, seated ourselves in the old carpeted dining room, and were attended to quickly. Given a menu that i looked over, even tho i knew i was getting the 8 pc Bucket Deal that came with fries/wedges and coleslaw. Good thing i looked again tho, I saw we could ask for half fries and half wedges. Sounds good to me, I want to try both. Waitress took our order, I said half and half please, she closed her order book and said a pint of coleslaw comes with. We ordered the Score 4 which is fried onion rings, cauliflower, mushroom and zucchini. Amazing. While we waited I watched as numerous carry outs came and left, and the dining room filled up almost completely. Food came out literally in 10 minutes. All together. A bowl of Chicken and Rice cuz i need to try soup everywhere. It was good, a bit salty but good. Small loaf of bread Now, The sheer amount of potatoes on that plate was astounding. The wedges were piled up and fries were stacked. And the coleslaw? Yeah that pint was HUGE. Falling out of the bowl, finely miced and super wet. More than enough for us 2, more than enough for 6 probably. We ate and ate and it still didnt put a dent in it. Now the reason for our visit, the Chicken was FANTASTIC. Crusty, Crispy, flavorful and moist. Hot and juicy and flavorful. Pieces weren't huge but just the right size. We each ate 2 pieces and honestly could have went for another but we wanted leftovers haha. Next time ill get the 12 piece lol. I usually eat at my desk, reading emails as I munch on a salad or the weekly special. However, when my friend suggested that we continue our fried chicken odyssey at lunchtime on a recent Friday, I was totally game. We rarely take time out for lunch (maybe five times a year) so this was a double-treat. The restaurant looks like a throwback to the 60s, with extraneous walls blocking the view, unlike more updated spaces, acoustic ceiling tiles, and tight booths. I had glanced at the menu prior to the visit but all thoughts of healthier eating disappeared when my friend announced she would be having the 4-piece Chicken Dinner. That sounded too good to pass up. The chicken was lightly battered and seasoned. Crisp and crunchy, the chicken was steaming hot and juicy. It was perfectly cooked. Yum. The dinner comes with two sides. I selected the onion rings, because, onion rings. The coleslaw was slightly sweet, not too creamy and not too vinegary. It was a refreshing complement to the meal. In an effort to minimize calories, a long-ago article in the NYT indicated that the calories in a rotisserie chicken breast without the skin is only slightly less caloric than that of fried chicken breast without the skin. So there, a way to enjoy this meal without the massive guilt. The server was chatty and friendly. We felt that she went out of her way to make our visit special. read more

(No thank you next time) I think this place is very reasonable especially their side of onion rings - the small to me looks like a large and that's all you would need unless you are sharing which I usually don't do. Yes i'm greedy so sue me!!! I've eaten at many chicken spots and unfortunately they usually need seasoning added which I HATE - ugh but this place here has me sold. Came here with my husband for the first time last Friday. During Lent we try to find a new place for Fish & Chips each Friday. This week I picked Mr. Chicken. We were meeting my sister and her fiance, so I wanted to find somewhere closer to them. I looked up F&C on Yelp search, and Mr. Chicken was one of the places that popped up. Out of all the places listed - and all the reviews I read - this seemed like the best bet. I also thought my nieces and nephew were coming, so I had to steer away from bars. They didn't end up coming, so I could've easily picked a bar. Oh well...next time for sure! My sister said her work orders Mr. Chicken quite a bit, their chicken is delicious, but she had never been here either. I can tell you when we walked in the place it smelled heavenly! I really wanted to take part in some chicken action, but I restrained myself and ordered fish. I was actually looking forward to the fish though so it wasn't too big of an upset. We ordered the Fried Pickle Spears as an appetizer, and they were spectacular! They're comparable to other places I've tried, but they weren't so piping hot you couldn't eat them! They were served with a side dish of Ranch (which was pretty fantastic) and a few packets of cocktail sauce. Different, but maybe it would taste alright? I don't know...I stuck with good ol ranch! So I learned that the "dinner" choice comes with 3 pieces of fish, and the "snack" comes with 2 pieces of fish. You get a choice of 2 sides with both the dinner and the snack. The soup was Campbell's Clam Chowder. The salad was an Iceberg salad. I believe applesauce and cottage cheese were also side options, which neither appealed to me. So I went with the potato (fries) for 1 side, and coleslaw for my 2nd side which I ended up giving to my husband since I can't eat cabbage. We all ordered the fried cod (dinner) with fries, but my sister ordered the wedges. I tried one of her potato wedges and it was pretty awesome. Could've used a little more salt, but I liked them alot. I thought they were better than the fries, which were pretty standard - not the crispy kind. The fish was pretty good, and that was PIPING HOT! You definitely had to wait a little bit before taking a bite. I'm pretty sure all 4 of us said we burned our mouth/tongue on the fish. Not bad, just good to know if you've never been here. The cod fillets weren't the beer battered crispy kind. The batter was very thin - almost like a skin - and fell of the fish easily. It wasn't bad and it definitely tasted good, but I prefer the crunchy, beer battered fish fillets. Our waitress was great. She kept our drinks full, our tables cleared, and helped us with any questions we had regarding the menu. She was pretty cool. Service was quick & good. Fish & fries were average. When you have that craving for fried chicken (or fried food in general), you can't go wrong with Mr. Chicken. The chicken has a nice non-spicy batter. Meals come with two sides, which can include soup or salad as well as more traditional sides. I highly recommend the onion rings if you can eat them while they're fresh from the fryer. The interior decorating is a bit dated but what do you really expect from a broasted chicken place? This is an excellent choice to pick up large servings for a party. Also, they're open pretty late most nights so a good option for a late meal when everything else is closed. read more

I am shocked and chagrined that it has taken me so long to try this place. It was a perfect place after walking over from a couple of buildings down, beautiful night, full of big boy juice and needing some protein covered in breading.... lo and behold I found it. We ordered the 4 piece chicken dinner with cole slaw (co slaw as some have said in my past). Now i will say I wasn't especially thrilled with the slaw, as i do fancy myself a bit of connoisseur, so much so that I had to spell check but whatever, don't judge me. I'm not sure if it is the acid to fat balance but there was a bitterness to it that I wasn't especially fond of, thus the one star drop. Now on to the main event. The delicious, melt in your mouth, makes you want to get up and take off your shirt and rub your belly it's so good chicken. The breading was perfect, it was crispy on the outside, snapped at the bit and the inside was soft, tender and full of belly filling happiness. As i don't get to Dearborn anywhere near enough, it's always great to find a spot that you love and want to come back to. This is one of those spots. Boom shakalaka boom! Nothing has changed. Since the pandemic this place has took a nose dive in its food. Chicken is burnt, grease is old and chicken has lost it's good taste. Potato's are burnt. Meaty and crispy, just really excellent chicken. They have ribs, shrimp and fish but seriously, just go for the specialty of the house, the chicken. This is broasted chicken at its finest with good flavor. Deliciously juicy and crunchy without all the grease of frying. Sides run decent to good but the star of the show is hot, perfectly seared golden chicken. We did half and half, half fries and half broasted potatoes. We were fairly evenly divided on which was the superior option. I will vote for the broasted potatoes myself. The cole slaw was loved by my dad and mom and I thought it was nice-ish enough I guess...but ummm pass me more chicken instead please. You cannot go wrong with a bucket of this stuff. Not too spendy at all, you can get a 12 piece bucket with the works for under 20 bucks. Not bad for four people. More hungry? A 16 piece will set you back around 24 smackeroos to go. Ate in here the other day with a friend of mine and it was an alright experience. I'm not downgrading the stars because the buckets of chicken are so good but I'd give this particular experience about 3 stars. The staff is lovely and super friendly, and if you get the chicken I'm sure you'll be plenty happy but this time around I decided to go with the chicken sandwich which came with a pretty sad iceberg salad (although I will say the ranch was QUITE tasty). The chicken sandwich itself was pretty plain. Just a fried chicken patty on a bun with a packet of mayo and some lettuce and tomato. The lettuce, again, was that standard iceberg and the tomato was a winter tomato--you know the kind, it's mushy and not quite ripe. I'm picky about tomatoes because my mom grows such amazing ones in her backyard in the summertime so most tomatoes don't hold a candle, especially the winter ones (they could be grown by magical holiday elves and I'd still probably be snooty about it). The chicken was actually quite good but it just made me wonder why I didn't just order the chicken meal since that's what's what I love. Save myself some calories on the bun, you know? (hey, it's not much when you're eating fried chicken but at least it's something!) The french fries were pretty good and I found myself dipping them in the leftover salad ranch. Admittedly not my healthiest hour but there you have it. The prices, as always, were pretty darn cheap and made treating my friend to lunch not a terrible bank breaking experience. The chicken was juicy and flavorful and I could probably go with three pieces instead of the side next time - the potato wedges were dry and lacked flavor. My biggest complaint? We waited more than 20 minutes for our fried chicken and we were late for our meetings. One of my coworkers had to ask (last-minute) for his food to go. I really wanted to like Mr. Chicken. I'm in love with their sign. I moved to Dearborn last year and kept saying to myself that I need to try it. I got carryout from Mr. Chicken last night. I had the perch dinner, and my girlfriend had a chicken tender dinner. She said her tenders and fries were just okay. When she tried my fish, she said it tasted burned and the oil needed to be changed. The potato wedges were huge and fell apart on me. They needed salt and/or flavoring.
