Great place to eat on way home from airport. I had chicken and ribs. My wife had chicken breast. Ribs were good, not fabulous. Sauce was not good. I would skip them next time and concentrate on the chicken. Cole slaw was good. I prefer larger pieces and creamier dressing, but this is more traditional. Wedge fries good, as were onion rings. Chicken was close to excellent. Nice crisp breading. Desserts uninspiring - skipped it. Why nothing homemade? And unfortunately, no liquor license. I like beer with fried chicken. Came here with my father for lunch. It had literally been years since I've eaten here. The food was even better than I remembered. The chicken was piping hot. The skin was crispy without too much batter. The chicken was juicy and flavorful. I had the potato wedges and my father had the french fries. Again, both items came piping hot and were very tasty. The wedges were perfectly browned on the outside and the inside was soft and fluffy. They give a nice serving of Cole slaw. It was fresh and had the perfect amount of sweetness. I absolutely love Cole slaw and I could not finish it all. The 3-piece dark meal was so filling. My only recommendation would be regarding the drinkware. The cups/mugs appeared to be very old. This is fried chicken nirvana! Wow!! Stopped on a weekday afternoon. Nothing special in atmosphere but the chicken was outstanding. Crispy and juicy. Their homemade bbq sauce is a perfect touch. A solid local chicken and ribs spot. The chicken is tasty and the ribs aren't bad if you like them fall off the bone style and not proper southern bbq style (they're better than Boneyard in my opinion, because Boneyard ribs are too tough). The sides are all good, as well, but the potato wedges are frigging huge. I mean, YUGE, which I think is kind of a negative, but that's my opinion. One wedge is like half a potato. But yeah, I'd rather go here than KFC, but I'd still rather have Popeyes for just fried chicken. Also, they have rolls and bread instead of biscuits. That's a big negative to me. You can't have a fried yardbird and rib joint and not offer a biscuit on your menu. Anyway, this place is good and I've been here a few times. Woo buddy, this is some chicken!! I've never had it carry-out, but when we dine in, the chicken comes up piping hot, and as juicy and tender as fully-cooked chicken can possibly be. The skin is golden, glistening, and packed with flavor, not just grease. My only gripe about this place is the lackluster sides. I lived about a mile from Mr. Chicken for about 11 years and loved it every time I ate there. Great chicken, no doubt. But this ain't no hipster skinless healthy organic joint. This is old school, crispy, grease dripping, hot from the broaster (what the hell is a broaster anyway?), having the munchies eating, sitting in your stomach for hours, regretting it later chicken. But it tastes so damn good, it's addictive. And I started calling it dog crack, because my dogs would literally go crazy and start drolling and jumping and freaking out whenever I brought it home. I don't blame them. It really is that good. Not cheap by any means. It'll cost you about 8 -10 dollars for a dinner, but, like I said, it's good to the bone. The coating is super flavorful and the chicken is moist and tender. A dinner comes with a tiny coleslaw (nothing special) and big helping of broasted (what the hell is a broaster anyway?) potatoes. I always like the potatoes, but others have told me they don't really dig them. Just big ass fat wedges of fried potatoes. What's not to like? So as long as you appreciate a big meal of fried goodness, go for it. Fast the next day or whatever you have to do to get the fat out of your body, if that bothers you. In accordance with my meatatarian weekend, I went driving around following my nose. The added snow didn't help and thus gave me more reason to locate some meat. Ribs are just what the doctor ordered. I got myself a slab dinner for one with some fries and coleslaw. All for a little less than 15 bucks. There was a roll in there but I threw it out the window. The ribs were decent. The main problem I had with it was the super high fat content. Some sections were lacking meat and it was just biting into pork fat. This is not cool if you're expecting to be biting into meat. The sauce was a solid C+. It was nowhere near "brush your teeth with bbq sauce" good. The fries were meh and the coleslaw was good. It was a decent attempt. This place seems to specialize in broasted chicken, so I might give that a shot another time. The staff was pretty quick. Although, I was slightly nervous when they mentioned making a KFC run. My fears were alleviated when I found out they just wanted some biscuits. I just might give this place another shot in the near future. read more

Finally stopped into this place after passing it a million times in my life. I only got the wing dings for lunch but they were good. The food reminds me of Chicken Shack, with that being said I have nothing negative to say. The food was good, the workers were friendly. The restaurant looked clean. I did notice that the lady at the counter knew several people by name. This leads me to believe they have a lot of regulars or repeat customers which is a good sign. Comes with cole slaw (which something was off about) and fries or wedges. We got wedges. This chicken is awesome! The waitresses are super nice. They make sure to always refill your drinks (without having to ask -- most of time). The ribs and shrimp are not the greatest but the sign says "Mr. Chicken". Do yourself and your family a favor by taking them to Mr. Chcken to eat. read more

We got Mr Chicken, Bone-yard, and Westpoint. 7 of 7 voters picked Mr. Chicken. 2nd was Westpoint. Though to be fair, I think Mr Chicken are baby back so different animals, or rather different size animals!! This location is our go- to place for crispy chicken. The staff is nice, and the place (while dated) is clean. Very consistent food quality, and good portion sizes for the price. Blows away KFC every day. When you go there, get the rice pudding! We have yet to be disappointed by this location. Mr Chicken has been at this location for , it seems, 50 years. I grew up in the area and have been out of Michigan for over 30 years. Every time I come back to Michigan, two to three times a year, I always get chicken here at least a couple of times each trip. Their chicken is outstanding and we have never had any issue. Great service and outstanding chicken. Very surprising that this place is better than most fried chicken I have found living in the south for years. This is my first stop after I land in michigan , place a take out order bucket, nice and hot, open the top of the box to keep the crispness before I get to my family and enjoy some outstanding chicken, broasted potatoes and cole slaw. I have never been so disappointed in a restaurant. I called in my order they told me it would be ready in 7 minutes. I got there 15 minutes later, paid, and was told about 10 minutes and it would be ready. I waited 20 more minutes watched several customers come and go. Listened to the staff talk about personal issues. Just when I was fed up and was going up to the counter to find out where my order was they noticed a order sitting off to the side. Come to find out it was my order. Had been sitting for around 30 minutes by this time. The employee tried to tell me that the order was fresh. I opened it and everything was soggy. I told her it's not fresh, she proceeded to try to convince me that it was when I had been looking at the same order since I came in. I asked her if they could remake the order and she again told me that it was fresh. I wouldn't normally care except that I was picking up dinner for a elderly friend. I ended up getting seriously angry and simply said that I will never enter that dump again. I went to my friend and told them about what happened and they said that they are never going to order from them again. All I can say is it's sad that such a landmark is going downhill. read more

I can't say I am crazy about the rest of the menu, but when I have a last minute need to feed 50 to 100 people for one of my parties this is where I run to for the chicken. A good place for fried chicken / fish. I had fried chicken and fried ocean perch, both are excellent and fairly large portion. Chicken is very tender. Fish is moist and tender. The sides are decent too. While some people may like it, the coating is a bit too think for my liking. Service is very charming, and prompt. Price is reasonable too. Will be back. read more
