I went down home on this excursion y'all. As in the southern comfort (or soul food) that I grew up on. Known for their Chicken & Waffles something that I had my first experience with in Los Angeles, Mr. C's serves a great breakfast spread and lunch/dinner is quite extensive as well. It took my lunch companion and I a bit to decide what we wanted. The menus have a lot on them. I eventually opted for the Smothered Chopped Steak, Okra, and Mac & Cheese with a sweet tea. It was good food that was hot and fresh. Eating this meal gave me a bit of nostalgia from eating fresh from my grandmother's farm as a boy. read more

We were in the area and hungry. We saw this place and decided to stop in and try it. They have a big selection on their menu. As soon as I saw the Monte Cristo sandwich I knew that's what I wanted. My husband ordered country fried chicken (sauce on the side) and onion rings with a side of mac & cheese. For appetizer we ordered the fried pickles and they were delicious! Very crispy batter. They also give you complimentary corn bread and it was the best corn bread I've ever had. My Monte cristo unfortunately, was too greasy and it was deep fried so thick with batter. I only ate half of it. The waffle fries were good. Overall it was ok. Service wasn't the greatest. The young lady rarely checked on us and she seemed unsure/new to working there when we asked menu questions. read more

We have been here when it was a Mexican restaurant. Which wasn't bad, just didn't make it. We noticed that this place is now a chicken and waffle place. Not always in the mood for chicken and waffles, but this place has more than just that. So I was really happy to find that out. I got the fried chicken sandwich, big piece of boneless white meat chicken. Lettuce tomato and pickles. A sweet bun. My wife got the two piece fried chicken, very crisp and moist. It came with red potatoes salad. My wife loved it, but it has a sweet taste to it. I like mustard based potato salad. They have koolaid, yeah. Full bar. Clean place. Plenty of parking and plenty of seating. We were told that Sunday after church is busy, we went on a Saturday around 1pm, not too busy. read more

Walked in and was greeted right away. I was told to seat anywhere that was empty and chose a booth by the front window. The server came with a menu and a few minutes later brought water. I ordered the fried chicken steak with mashed potatoes & gravy as well as Mac N' Cheese! Within 2 minutes she came back with my order and thought that was super fast! The Mac n cheese was good and hot but the mashed potatoes/gravy was cold and did not eat it all. The server took about 10 minutes before checking up on my table and told her that I was disappointed on the food quality and temperature. She mentioned that she was sorry and that she would let the cooks know and provide a discount due to me leaving most of the food ordered. The place has plenty of tables and booth to accommodate any large parties. Floor looked cleaned and didn't see no left over food on the floor. Overall, I ended up giving this place a two stars. So not the greatest experience, for starters our waitress wasn't very attentive, the place wasn't too busy but I had to keep walking up to the counter to ask for things she didn't really check on us even when attending to tables close by. The staff for the most part were friendly. The establishment was nice, plenty of room and clean. The decor was modern and the vibe was chill. The food wasn't all bad the cornbread was fire and the fried pickles were delicious but the pork chop was not it. The breading fell off easily and the Mac and cheese had no taste. My wife got the monte cristo sandwich and it was overly breaded, she tore most of it off. 20 min after eating I was in the restroom and it was coming out both ends. I'm sure this was a one off but it was my experience, I hate to dog on the place but it left me sick as hell. Probably never coming back. read more

I visited this place, Mr C's chicken & waffle, to grab some brunch. I've heard mix reviews about this place but i wanted to try the service out myself. It's spacious and the vibes are chill. Tried out this new location of Mr. C's this week for both dinner and brunch. I actually didn't know they had another location over on the West side of town, but I sure am glad they decided to open up near me! Went for dinner the first time with my mom, and we had a great experience. The place wasn't busy (they just opened I think a few days ago, so no one knows they are there yet) so we were able to sit wherever we liked. We were promptly served by Wes, who was super sweet if a little soft spoken (hard to hear him at times). It was a brisk evening, so I got some coffee to warm up. The coffee was smooth and delicious, I really enjoyed my 2 cups. For my meal I ordered the tenders and waffles (of course) and my mom ordered the biscuits and gravy plate. They gave us complimentary cornbread, and we definitely nommed that while waiting on our food. The cornbread has a rich, deep flavor and is served with whipped butter to spread on top. Our food didn't take too long to come out since it wasn't busy. My plate looked delicious, but my one teensy criticism is that the chicken was fried a little light, it needed more time in the fryer (it was cooked through, but just) and the breading had a tendency to slide off the chicken. However, it tasted wonderful, and the waffle (I upgraded to cinnamon) was a delight. The biscuits and gravy stole the show, however. The biscuits are HUGE and fluffy. Just absolute clouds of pillowy bread smothered with a unique gravy that tasted almost of chicken broth (it was SO GOOD) with a heaping side of perfectly fried potatoes and some scrambled eggs. Needless to say, neither of us finished our meals, I do love having leftovers to nosh on later in the week. Bang for the buck was right on, considering the portion sizes. I liked my meal so much that I came back for brunch the next morning with my husband! The second visit was still good, but not as good as the night before. I don't know if it was a different cook than the night before, but the food was very, very oily in the morning. Everything still tasted good (my husband got chicken fried steak and eggs and I got a Cali omelette) but there was oil dripping off the eggs and forming a pool, and oozing out of my omelette from the sauteed veggies. I ended up having to use a napkin to soak out some of oil. Again, everything still tasted good, but that much oil was just totally unnecessary. They just opened, so there is a learning curve to be expected. We will still be back, and I hope they can reign in whichever cook felt the need to fully lubricate the griddle, lol. read more

Stopped by to eat breakfast at 9 am with family. There was 5 people in the restaurant and young lady would not seat 2 out of a party of 5 until the complete party was present. Once party was complete, this young lady does not even approach us at the waiting area, yells at us to sit where ever. So we proceed and sit where we wanted on a larger table. Once seated, she tells us we can not sit at the table we selected, after we were instructed to sit where ever! We walk out and drive to Ihop! Mind you, we drove all the way from Huebner where we used to go to the original. Its no wonder you are struggling. You need to get involved and train you employees on customer service! read more

Really sucks to have to leave this review, but we were extremely disappointed by our first experience visiting Mr. C's. The food isn't terrible but it's definitely not worth the price. We ordered to go and waited so long for the food to be mid and items being forgotten. I tried to order a 2 piece chicken with a side. The server (Laneya) recommended a different meal with a waffle, which was not what I wanted since I still wanted a side that I had to pay extra for. I paid extra for my side and when the server offered gravy, she made it seem like it was included (which it was not). So I had to pay extra for something I had ordered originally and was told to get something else and then paid extra for the gravy. I was honestly fine with it as long as it was good, but we got home after waiting for 30 minutes only to see they forgot to include the side and gravy, both things I had to pay extra for ! I called and asked if I can get it refunded and whoever answered the phone seemed so annoyed (there were only 2 girls there). It's been almost 2 weeks and they never refunded the amount. Can into the place with a couple of friends who hadn't tried it. One of which got a lemonade with brown residue inside the cup after drinking it for a few sips. Service was also kind of disappointing to an extent. And as I'm writing this, my other buddy found a receipt under his waffle. I was hoping to god the food would be good. It tasted like a high schooler trying to make a chicken sandwich for the first time. Zero crunch factor and not a good breading at all. my waitress was great. but from working in food service, the service overall here was.. an experience for sure. for one, the podium says to wait to be seated, we sat at the bar so it didn't matter but we heard some customers being told to sit wherever, while others were told to wait. there's also no one standing at the podium, so employees are yelling across the entire bar to talk to incoming customers. a guy took our drink orders, and then we saw our shot sitting on the counter for at least ten-15 minutes.. when our order was actually taken by our waitress, she was sweet and awesome, but if the team could communicate better ?? also having someone at the podium or maybe not yelling across the establishment, would make it a better experience. probably won't come back but would want to see a more professional environment. read more

Went today for lunch (arrived a little after 1pm) and I was actually trying to give the establishment another chance because this isn't the first time this has been an issue. First, the busboy took an unusually long time cleaning tables with people waiting to be seated. We watched two large parties sit and linger and once they finally left we still had to ask the hostess to have the table cleaned for us after waiting an hour. Once seated, we still waited to just get drink orders taken. There was no apology for the long wait and clearly no sense of urgency. Instead of advising that they were out of tea the server brought one tea (three were ordered) and didn't bother to mention that they were out or offer something else. Two of us ordered margaritas which took extremely long because the "bartender had to make them". Said bartender was simply the other server who had been behind the counter multiple times with our server. Drinks didn't get made until we asked why was there such a wait. Once they arrived they were not good. We had to ask for our food order to be taken. On top of all this, when we asked to speak to the manager we were told there was no manager on site, and it absolutely showed. Food orders took forever and even still no sense of urgency. Orders came missing items and still our server had no sense of urgency. While the server made the experience very sour, in speaking with the manager (over the phone) she did not make the situation any better. I will say the young black man that came from the kitchen to assist us did try to rectify the problem but overall it was a very disappointing event. Just a thought, if you're going to leave servers to fend for self please ensure they 1) have some customer service skills (preferably good ones), 2) have a personality that suites dealing with the public (we are there to spend money not deal with attitudes), and 3) have proper training for food service. I have ate at the other location and can honestly say I've never had any problems. As much as I'd like to support this establishment the service makes it very hard. Food being good doesn't make up for poor customer service. read more
