Wanted something sweet, so stopped in to check out this place. Local business to this neighborhood. Walk in and the place is really nice. Colors and displays come at ya. Warm friendly vibe from the young lady taking her time to explain what type cupcake that look like to be a choice of mines. Up to this point it's a 5 shop. So I picked two for $.50 and took a flyer. Got in car and on the flyer it say by two get one free. The lady should have told me pick another one for free. That would have been a way to get me back for another try. So the two I chose was Pain Jane and Raspberry cheesecake. Both had good flavor to them but over cooked done because was fairly dried it out. I've tasted amazing cupcakes even after it Sat chilled. So I've visited Mr. Cupcakes (Clifton) in the past but never this location. Prior to visiting I looked on their website and they even have "Curbside Service". Upon arrival, I called them while in the parking lot because it looked as if they were closed (Covid-19). A young lady answered the phone and stated "Yes we're open for business". As we walked into the store, I was overwhelmed by all of the variety of cupcakes. Even my daughter couldn't decide which cupcake to choose from so of course I decided to help her so we wouldn't be there all night! Oh and prior to entering, dad replied "I don't want anything" (hmmmm interesting). Let's see if he can resist these cupcakes.... "Yeah right"! I chose the "Plain Jane" for her, daddy wanted the Red Velvet" and lastly I chose the " Happy Birthday" flavored cupcake. I just attempted to eat a fruity pebbles cupcake and what an awful experience it was. The cupcake and topping tasted old. The cupcake crumbled into pieces. Boy, am I absolutely Elated that I had the pleasure of finding Mr. Cupcakes when I Googled "the Best Cupcakes in NJ!" I know that they have three locations in Northern NJ and I am 30 minutes from both Clifton and Hawthorne. So, last Friday I took a ride to Hawthorne and I got a couple of the Cookie Dough and the Red Velvet cupcakes. I don't think that I can adequately describe the freshness and the Deliciousness of these little Happiness in a tiny cake. The cookie dough cupcake has a huge chunk of fresh cookie dough on top of Fresh whipped Creme (I mean Fresh and Creamy) and the Best and thickest Chocolate Ganache with mini chocolate chips scattered throughout the whipped creme goodness. Now, to the Vanilla cake with chocolate chips baked inside and then guess what......another huge piece of cookie dough baked inside. I think this is what Heaven tastes like. That is the only way to describe the Awesomeness of my cookie dough cupcakes. I also got a couple of Red Velvet cupcakes with the smoothest and freshest Creme Cheese frosting (No wonder this is their #1 cupcake) that is swirled around a delicious Red Velvet cake. Plus, they also have these tiny one bite cupcakes in a variety of flavors, which I had to get a few of those and I got a few chocolate covered Cookie Dough Pops on a popsicle stick. Goodness, it's dangerous they opened up near me! I don't even have a sweet tooth and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I went here to surprise my fiance with a few cupcakes for his birthday. I could not believe the amount of cupcake options they had. The cupcakes were incredibly decadent, super rich with flavor and perfect consistency. Since I'm not a big dessert person, I didn't realize how reasonable the prices are for a cupcake. You can get 1 hell of a dessert at this place for a few bucks. Went here a couple days ago. It was pretty calm when I got there, which was a plus for me. A wide selection, but clearly they were running out of goods during that time. The place was clean, and the few workers there were welcoming and patient, especially towards my family members who spoke little English. Very good customer service. There were a couple of seats, along with window seats. It'd be nice to sit around and chat over cupcakes with a few friends. The cupcakes were delicious and rich. A bit too sweet for my taste, but I've been told I have a low sugar tolerance. I got a box of 4: rocky road, cookie dough, viva la leche, and piña colada ($8 value). I tasted a bit of all of them except the rocky road, and they were all unique but equally great. They were all dense, though, so eating just one in one sitting is a feat. I'm not a fan of most icings and frostings, but this place did it just right, especially for the piña colada's frosting (a plus for not immediately melting on such a hot day). My cupcake, the cookie dough flavoured one, had a vanilla with chocolate chip base (and cookie dough center!), frosting, chocolate chips, and some sort of drizzle. The piña colada cupcake had bits of pineapple in the cake itself, and I believe I sense some coconut flakes in the pineapple flavoured frosting. The tres leche flavoured cupcake was moist and poundcake-y. Overall, I highly recommend this place. It was good quality for affordable prices (about $2 each cupcake, and $4 for jumbo ones). Mixed review on this place and the quality. Came here around 3pm on a Monday. Great location. Small parking lot, but happy that there is one. The store was dead when I entered. I stood in the store, unacknowledged and attended to for four minutes. I debated walking out. By the time the worker came out to the sales floor, there were 7 customers lined up behind me. So the service is less than desired. 25% of the cupcakes for the display case were missing. Not sure if that was normal as this was my first visit to any Mr. Cupcake location. I ordered four cupcakes: chocolate sundae, southern red velvet, fruity pebbles & cookie dough. The cookie dough topping completely melted and liquidified within 15 minutes of my drive home, which was odd considering is was chilly out, less than 45 degrees. Threw that one away. I tried the chocolate sundae cupcake. Great presentation. The cake itself had great flavor and was extremely moist. However, the icing was awful. The icing had the perfect icing consisency but the actual flavor was gross. I couldn't figure out what was added to it flavorwise but it was terrible. Inedible. My boyfriend tried the fruity pebble cupcake. He said it tasted like a regular betty crocker one that I make. $8 in total for four cupcakes. Not bad. So I walked into the Mr. Cupcakes location in Hawthorne Thursday around 11:30 and the guy behind the counter was casually having a conversation with the last customer. I'm standing there being patient and being totally ignored while they reminisced so I went in the restroom to wash my hands. When I came back to the counter they were still talking and the worker still had not even acknowledged my presence. After a few more minutes they finally ended the conversation and the customer left. As an African American it would have been easy to cry racism as the customer and the worker were white guys but I'm not that type of guy. However I felt totally disrespected and I believe that if I was white I would have been treated better. I dont think I'll be going back. read more

Well I returned to this location a second time a few.weeks ago on a Sunday afternoon for some of their red velvet cupcakes. When we got around to trying them for dessert they were a huge disappointment and they were NOT fresh. The cream cheese frosting was gummy and it all came off of the cupcake when you took your first bite. I go here for coffee mostly- they have cappuccinos, lattes, iced coffee...Huge plus for me is they have dairy alternatives, so I often get my daughter a hot chocolate in the winter months since she is lactose intolerant. The staff is frequently rotating, and there isn't very much consistency from drink to drink unless I get the same person. I haven't had any terrible experiences with the flavors, it's just tastes different each time. Also, the cookie dough balls have the same issue (consistency) so I stopped getting those. But otherwise no complaints. This week I saw a sign out front that the coffee drinks are 1/2 from 8a-12pm, which is a great deal. I got a latte and cupcake for $4 which was great. The flavor of the cupcakes is above average. The cream cheese and butter cream icings are great. My favorite is the southern red velvet. I've had Mr. Cupcakes in the past. The first time I ever tried them was in the Hackensack location, and later the Clifton one. I don't recall any issues from then and I enjoyed them. I recently found out they had one in Hawthorne and it put me in the craving for these cupcakes. I tried 3 of their intern cupcakes: Snowball Fight, Fudgie Brownie, & Roberto's Flan. The Snowball Fight was delicious, it contained coconut and very well done. I did not feel that the Fudge Brownie had any taste of brownie to it. I enjoyed Roberto's Flan. After purchasing I asked one of the young ladies for a Caramel Iced Latte and she redirected me to the other young lady because she knew how to make them, but then I was told they did not have Iced at the moment. I can't say enough about how grateful I was to whoever answered the phone when I called the day before my daughters 13th birthday to get some Jumbo cupcakes. This was the third location I called and they readily and happily offered to make me three different jumbo cupcakes! Every other location I called said I needed 24 hours notice...this location put them in the oven right away so that I would have them to send to school with the girls the next morning. I just moved and was SO excited to now be within walking distance of this location- I've been going to the Clifton one for years- and I don't know if it's just not as busy but both times I've gone it was horrible- NOT fresh.
