It also wasn't very hot that day and the ice cream kept melting out of the cup and cone. The texture of the ice cream was much softer than at some spots. Not a bad thing necessarily but messy nonetheless. Service was friendly. There are a couple tables and a bench to enjoy your treat. Or walk into town and walk off those calories. Parking is available behind the location but there's also street parking that's paid around 8 am-6 pm every day except Sunday.

The ice cream itself may have been fine, but the value simply wasn't there. A sundae should feel like a treat, not a sample. I left feeling frustrated and disappointed, and I hope management takes a closer look at the portion sizes being served because this experience did not meet expectations.

For dessert, we ordered the mile high espresso martini, affogato martini, which had ice cream they make in-house, and the Samoas cheesecake. Every single thing was delicious! Yes I will continue to give them my money. Buuut guys buy some gloves. It's kind of odd to watch people serve ice cream, ring people up, be on their phone, serve ice cream, ring people up ect. I also wish they'd let you choose two flavors in a small cup instead of requiring a double scoop (medium) if you want to mix flavors. A few things to know before you go: Van Dyk's is cash only, although they do have an ATM inside if you need it. The shop itself is very small, with no indoor seating or restrooms. There are only a few places to sit outside, so most people end up standing around or grabbing a spot on the small wall. Parking can also be a bit of a headache. The lot gets hectic, especially when they're busy, and better signage would definitely help. We've found it's often easier to park on a nearby side street and walk over. Even when the line is long, the staff does a great job keeping things moving. One employee usually takes care of an entire group from start to finish, which helps keep the ordering process efficient. Everyone we've interacted with has always been friendly and helpful. Even with the cash-only policy, limited seating, and hectic parking, Van Dyk's is still one of our family's favorite summer traditions. The homemade ice cream keeps us coming back year after year, and hopefully next time they'll have my favorite ice cream, Bailey's Cream, in stock.
