Fresh Guacamole and Chips
Evan W.

Chose Mr. Furley's as the place to watch Game 7 of the world Series, and it was a great decision all around. The casual and comfortable venue has a connected open patio that lets a cool breeze blow through the whole bar, which is especially great when the place is packed, as it was for the big game. Low key lighting from the faux incandescent LED light fixtures helps to keep things calm even as the energy builds. Loads of TV's, and a good crowd, so this is a great place to watch a game. They have a very large selection of beers, all in bottles and cans, though they also keep plenty of glasses chilled, so you do get the true "cold beer" experience. Yes, they have a full bar, and most were availing themselves of shots or one of the clever cocktails from their extensive list -- just know that the selection of liquors is small and relatively low to mid-shelf at best... this is not the place to settle in with an expensive, slow-sip drink, which is fine, but you need to know going in... They DO have Don Julio 1942, and I assume that's to make some extra cash if some of their tequila drinkers get tipsy enough to want to splurge. Why not? The big thing about Mr. Furley's is that they have a small but mighty menu of bar food that really rocks. On the surface, the selection seems quite pedestrian, but each item on the list is made in-house and easily one of the best renditions you'll have of that snack. Guacamole was fresh, very flavorful, and enhanced with a good-sized pieces of onion and tomato. The accompanying tortilla chips were also house-made, warm and thick enough to dig into the dip without breaking. Mozzarella sticks are, likewise, made in house... with a nice, light coating of breadcrumbs rather than the thick, doughy encasement on the frozen versions you get mostly everywhere. These are very good mozzarella sticks, served with tasty marinara and a ranch dressing that's also far more flavorful and garlicky than usual. Though we didn't order more to eat, we spied almost everything else from the menu being served around us, and it all looked and smelled great, especially the wings. Special kudos to the staff for handling the large, passionate crowd very well, serving very quickly and keeping things straight under stress. There were several bartenders, but the one working with us, Hannah, was especially friendly and excellent at her job. Would hope to be in her station whenever we return. I also want to note that they have a number of Happy Hour and other specials running, including a "Buy 2 Drinks Get The 3rd For A Penny," which most people were very happy to make use of. Furly's is a great, casual hangout, and we'll definitely be back before too long.

I came here after going to another bar and it had closed at midnight. This place's kitchen stayed open to about 12:30 and so I ordered mozzerella sticks. These were some solid, tasty sticks! Service seemed fast enough. My friend went up to the bar to order for me. This is like a sports bar. I don't even remember if there were TVs but there were two dart boards.

So gooooooood

It's incredibly crowded, almost overwhelming. The noise level is off the charts, so if that's not your vibe, you might want to skip it. It's tough to have a conversation here since you can barely hear yourself think, let alone talk to someone else. But despite the chaos, it's great to have such a lively bar in the valley. The best part is the prices, super reasonable for a bar anywhere. You can get a beer for as low as $6, and mixed drinks start at $10, which is rare these days. Most places charge $14-$15 for a well drink. However, with the crowd come some issues. There aren't enough bartenders to keep up, so expect long waits for drinks. Finding a seat is nearly impossible, and getting close to the bar is a challenge with the massive crowd. Once you do manage to squeeze in, you may still be ignored like we were. After waiting 10 minutes, a bartender finally greeted us, but as soon as a woman nearby spoke up, he left to flirt with her, leaving us to wait another 7 minutes. When we finally got served, we got two drinks and some wings for just $28 what a deal. The wings were great: six pieces with carrots and celery for $10, my $7 beer, and her $10 well drink made for a solid time for under $30. The wings, in particular, were delicious. Despite the flaws, this is still a great spot to visit and just enjoy the atmosphere. Definitely worth checking out at least once.

It's always a good time at Mr. Furley's Bar! Service is consistently great Ambience is always giving! When we arrived the kitchen had been closed so next time I'll be able to have some fries with my drink!

This place is great to stop in for a bite to eat, or to grab drinks. I'd come with friends, for a date, girls night out etc. every time I come in the service is amazing! Super friendly staff, bartenders will concoct you a perfect cocktail according to your taste! I love their fries and house made ranch to go with any of their beverages. You can sit inside or outside on the patio, it gets super busy on weekends after 8pm! Come early to grab a spot and enjoy.

Jim G. and I had a Great time at Mr Furley's Bar! Lauren and Chris (I think) were friendly and helpful! We pulled up early in the evening, when the place was just opening up, so the place wasn't packed yet. We definitely took advantage of the buy 2 get 1 free happy hour specials. The Crazy Larry was my favorite, though Janet's Lil Secret and the Mr. Furley were also good. We shared a tasty Philly cheesesteak and enjoyed the music and ambience. This is a fun, casual spot to enjoy times with friends!

What a cool spot, excellent happy hour, and some games to play too. But 2 get one free happy hour is a great value. Their drink names and the complexity with simple ingredients were fantastic. My favorite was the Crazy Larry. The Philly Cheesesteak was really tasty and again super reasonable prices. I also tried out the shot of the day for $4. We didn't check out the darts, pool table, or shuffle board but make sure to checkin on Yelp to get a discount if you want to play.

We were able to park nearby on the street and came in real early in the evening. Knowing this place had darts and a pool table, we figured that it would get even busier later in the night, which it did. We got the Nacho Quatro which had tortillas that came "sprinkled with black beans, cheese, pico de gallo, sour cream and jalapeño." For the rest of our meal, we had the pleasure of devouring a chargrilled burger, which had seasoned beef on a Portuguese bun along with grilled onions. We had wine and a beer with our meal and throughout our time there, we got to enjoy the lively atmosphere as people began to trickle in. We were able to throw darts while observing people play pool. Luckily, we stayed until it got very packed and were able to walk around Ventura Blvd. for awhile. Twas a fun dinner!

Yes

No. It's first come first serve.

Hi, is your closing time still 2am?

Yes we are! Come by!

Are you guys open again for outdoor seating as of 1/29/21?

We will be open this Sunday Jan 30th!

Do they serve takeout food?

No. They've specifically never packed food to go. Both before the pandemic and now.

Are you guys showing the NBA/MLB games on the outdoor seating areas?

Yes we are!!

Are you open on thanksgiving?

No. But we will be open tomorrow.

Is there any music at all or dj on the weekends?? or is it just a sit down bar?

Been at this place a few times but never seen a DJ (i might have missed lol) but there is loud music playing . Overall a good place to drink and meet friends . Food ! Eh ....

Happy hour is every day 5 to 9pm (even weekends) For saturday i highly suggest to get here by 9pm to find a table or else it will start getting busy

Lovely spot for Mexican food with fun vibes!…read more I came for Sunday brunch/lunch with some friends. I made a reservation through Yelp a couple days beforehand and there was plenty of availability. The restaurant is located right off Ventura Blvd and has an attached parking garage in the basement which can be accessed via the parking lot behind the restaurant. There were plenty of spots available Sunday afternoon when I came. It's a bit hidden, but there is an elevator from the garage to the top level where the restaurant is located as well. We had two babies in strollers with us, so I requested a table with plenty of space nearby for the strollers. They seated us outside on their covered patio, and indeed, we had plenty of space. I peeked inside and there's also a nice lounge area with a beautiful flower wall as well as a proper dining area. When we arrived, there was a live DJ spinning tunes. I assume he's there during brunch hours, as he left around 3 pm when brunch ended. I started with a frozen lime margarita ($12). It was okay; it felt like it was only half frozen as the ice wasn't blended that well. For my main, I got the famous Anejo carne asada and shrimp plate for $40. Yes it was pricy, but the portion size was also huge! I was starving and somehow managed to finish the plate, but it'd be a great dish to share for two people with small appetites. I really enjoyed it as well. I asked for the steak to be cooked rare, and they didn't overcook it. Each bite was super tender and flavorful and paired well with the rice. Everyone else also enjoyed their dish. One friend got the wet chicken burrito for $15 and it was massive! Another got the veggie fajitas with steak added and really enjoyed her dish as well. Solid food all around. I would love to come back on a weekday and try their happy hour! Sipping on $5 margaritas and $6 sangrias sounds like my idea of a great time!

No problem... except no one came to us for ever. We were maybe 1 of 4/5 tables in the place. Finally we flagged down someone who got our drinks going. Looks like he was the bartender - bar did have people too. Took awhile to get some food going as well, but we did eventually. Staff was friendly, so other than the waiting, it was a great time. Sherman Oaks is gritty and the section of Ventura Boulevard that houses TLP is almost brutalist in its anti-establishment aesthetic. You would never know it was here if you didn't either live in the neighborhood or seek it out as I did. It is sandwiched between a completely non-descript place that I didn't even look at and a crystals shop with grafitti-etched windows (unfortunately!) but some really cool beads. Inside is the same -- no frills, a dress-down and survive-if-you-dare vibe. My pictures will illustrate what I mean. Nevertheless, the friendly service (shout out to our server, Patrick), the menu, and the quality of the food are well worth it. Again, see what we ordered in the photos attached. Everything was delicious. The floor, tables, and chairs were all clean. There is some kind of post-apocalypse rhumba going on with the ceiling treatment. It is almost reverse-logic art with all the shading (stains? velour movement?) and utilitarian installation it reveals. Love the walls though, and the worn distressed wood everywhere (see the pix, folks). A bonus was watching the Masters (Patrick let us linger) and sitting by a giant window that was open to the street. Parking is up a block or so on either side. We always find safe spots in Sherman Oaks. The music seemed to be one CD of an unknown (to me) vocal artist and was pleasant. The crowd was friendly and the whole atmosphere was like one big homey grunge party. You know those mornings you fall out of bed and almost don't want to change out of your pajamas or yoga threds? This is the place to go. I loved it. (NOTE: You may have to refresh this page twice to see my pictures, for some reason. grrrrrr)

I made a reservation for Easter Brunch through OpenTable for me and my son. We got there about five minutes before our reservation at noon and the hostess told us to wait outside until they were open. Not a problem. HOWEVER, she never came back out to get us once they were open which was my first red flag because she left us waiting about 10 minutes past our reservation time. I go back inside to ask if we were going to be seated for our reservation and she asks under what name...mind you I was there before opening so she already had my name and time for reservation before no one else was there yet. The food itself was great but our service was absolutely terrible. We weren't checked on throughout the meal (again the restaurant was NOT crowded) and after completing our meal I realized the hostess deleted my reservation. For those who use OpenTable you know you get points for every completed reservation. I reached out privately to management first about my overall experience to hopefully rectify the issue. I wasn't looking for any incentives but that they at least train their wait staff better and resubmit my reservation in the system so I could both redeem my points and leave a review. It never happened. In an economy where everything is expensive just stepping outside I really value good service as well as good food. If the food is great but service is terrible I will never go back and this is that spot. Discrimination shows up in different ways and I will not patronize a business who blatantly does not show all of their customers the same level of respect and service. Posted pictures so you know I'm not a hater...food was great. Service was absolutely not it lol.

There's music that's lively without being overbearing, and the staff is uniformly friendly. But... You have to order at the bar and, though they have runners to bring your food, you do have to hunt them down for anything after the delivery (extra ketchup, etc). While this isn't my favorite system at my age, to be fair, whatever the owners are saving on staff is reflected in the prices, which are absolutely below most places in the area for food that is good-quality and drinks that are generously poured. So yes, my wife's Espresso Martini was served in a deep-bellied Belgium beer glass, and my whiskey neat was a hefty pour. Yay!! For food, I ordered the Smash Burger, which is served with melted American, grilled onions and the house version of Russian dressing (as well as pickles, which I deleted). The burgers had a nice, smashed crust while remaining juicy, the cheese was properly melted, and the grilled onions had a terrific caramelized sweetness, while the house sauce was very well-balanced: ketchupy and creamy without being too mayonnaise-heavy. A very good smasher. My wife ordered the Big Texan Burger because she wanted cheddar and frizzled onions and BBQ sauce, though she deleted the bacon and pork belly that are normally included. This, too, was a very good burger: cooked to a proper and pleasing medium-rare and well-seasoned, with a good, fresh flavor to the beef. The onion rings were less successful, which are of the beer batter type, but seemed to be a commercial, frozen product. The coating was browned but not crisp, and the flavor was relatively nondescript. We didn't really eat them, and wouldn't order them again. And so, to me, The Tipsy Cow is a bit of a mixed bag: reasonably priced decent food and reasonably priced, generously-poured drinks -- but in a mostly self-serve environment that incrementally loses its appeal in relation to your age and your dining circumstances. Certainly worth a try, but you've gotta be in the right mood.
