The Rendition Room has become my go-to place anytime I'm in the LA area. Easy to get to, no hassle parking & multiple venues at one location. I travel often throughout the US and speakeasies are what I search for. The others should use The Rendition Room as their criteria. The food (delivered from Vitello's) was delicious. Sausage & Pepper skillet this time. The adult beverages were again, spot on. The primary focus here is the superb mixologist & cocktail naming master Scott. I did the Baked Bourbon Old Fashioned this visit. Great conversation with history of the drink included, fantastic enthusiasm, and wonderful entertainment. All while making every patron feel important & included or as private as they want. This trip also included The Velvet Martini Lounge (upstairs) for after dinner live music. Also a great find. Sad to say that the Rendition Room was a complete disaster. I loved it in the past Quite and peaceful place to enjoy the people your were with. Tonight the waiter told us what we had to do in an uncomfortably controlling way. Order your food right now the kitchen is closing. I'll come back for your drink orders in a bit. We waited 30 minutes for both. His attitude was not calming. It was strangely controlling. With an attitude of friendliness attached to his aggression. All in all it was a very unpleasant evening. This a review times three. I was introduced to this sweet establishment a year ago by my Son who used to be a bar fly , but now drinking less is more a a bar gnat. He had been self taught learning about the differences of the properties of alcohol behind my parents open bar at a young age. It is especially for us at The Rendition Room with the incomparable, affable Scott that feels like home. We can comfortably discuss all sorts of things under the watchful eyes of Scott always making sure we are taken care of. The Ambience is a wonderful treat either sitting at the bar, in a comfortable booth, or languishing in a cozy stuffed chair by the magnificent Wurlitzer.Something about the beautiful bar with its beautiful glistening bottles of different shapes and colours of liquor that is so relaxing to us. I during college in San Francisco spent enough evenings on North Beach with my Father back in the day. The Galaxy and The Moulin Rouge weren't as homey as The Rendition Room. They also didn't have Scott who entertains as he gracefully moved about the bar like a linebacker making sure one and all patrons are tended to. He pops up when the lighted glass is pushed forward on your table, signifying a particular thirst or hungry need of sustenance. My second visit was with my Lady and she absolutely loved every minute of our meeting with Scott. I fully intend to bring a few friends back with me very soon. I have been coming here for a long time! The Rendition Room is a magical place where your tastebuds come to vacation! The Rendition Room is a true speakeasy offering a wonderful experience from beginning to end. Scott is amazing! He provides excellent service every time and his drinks are exceptional. There have been times I am unsure of what to order and with two questions, Scott crafts something I absolutely love. He is a true master at work! You cannot go wrong with any drinks here and if you're unsure, just ask. This is a great place to gather with friends (small groups) to enjoy the amazing old style ambiance. However, a solo trip is also well worth it. I always order an Old Fashioned, Boulevardier, or something along those lines and it never disappoints. This is one of the few places that I can honestly say, the price tag matches the quality you receive in return. Ok, this is going to be long but it was such a downer of a night I really want to explain & hopefully management sees this & actually does something. AND this is for the Speakeasy bar (before membership). We had a reservation for our Anniversary (we didn't announce that to them, we wanted a quiet night) we get there & there was a 10 min wait, ok no biggie not that long, until we're seated - there were 3 other couples in a place that can easily sit 11/12 couples (not including bar seats), So why the wait? There were also 2 bartenders. Anyway that didn't even bother me til the evening progressed to irritating. So we're were sat at a table, not a covered booth along the back, which I would have liked since all but one of the 6(?) were empty. They told me management only seats parties of 3 or more to those tables. Ok, BUT the only people seated in the occupied booth was a couple of 2. I also let this slide off my back (until later). 2 nice, young servers assisted us and were polite enough just not the best at making a martini (especially at the prices they charge) my glass should have been ice cold not lukewarm. So we then order food, I wanted to try the salad and a pizza (I felt the rest of the menu was overpriced) NOW I'm saying that because I had ordered delivery twice before from Vitello's (a few years before we went here) and it was always lacking in taste and both times an ingredient was missing! (Like no olives on my olives and onion pizza! No capers.) The salads came and were decent then our pizza came, well we were sat at a small table so nowhere to put the pizza! I was almost done and had them take that plate & it gave a bit of room to place the pizza. I begin to eat the pizza, pretty good ngl, but halfway through I noticed the basil was missing!! Hahaha! I couldn't believe it! I thought it was more funny than anything so we didn't say anything. Ok, so for 4 (mediocre) drinks, 2 small pretty good salads and a decent pizza we paid about $125 (not sure what he tipped) OH! Those booths behind us? Only 2 couples were sat the entire time we were there, and one of the couples were seated about when we asked for the bill. So yeah - 4 empty booths pretty much the entire time we ate! I did ask the manager about it and mentioned the empty booths she was insistent on her rule of parties of 3 or more, then I asked about the first couple of only 2 (still sitting there!) and she just said she had no idea how that happened. Not terrible but I stand by how many stars because if you're going to charge that much for a drink? You better make it perfect AND on a slow night, someone asks for a GD booth? My first time at The Rendition Room after enjoying Velvet Martini Lounge many times. We came on a Wednesday, and what makes Rendition Room simply great is that your bartender is your "everything". Drinks are different than other drinks in the Vitello's many bar choices, and being a cocktail snob, I gotta say the cocktails made by Scott, our server and bartender, were awesome! And Scott was a witty fun informative server too! The food comes from the main kitchen, which was fantastic as usual. The ambience and the service and the cocktails were top-notch! Arrived at around 8pm and was escorted behind the bookshelf at Vitello's and into the Speakeasy that is The Rendition room. Totally suave atmosphere. Dark, sexy, cool vibes (reminds me of myself). I took a seat at the bar and was greeted by my bartender/waitress, who was wonderful and accommodating. After taking a look at the menu, i knew I wanted to start off with the tiki drink (can't remember the name but it was very strong - definitely take your date here to seduce them, the drinks make it easy). It was totally delicious. For food, I opted for pizza and it was massive and a great price ($18) I can definitely see myself here splitting a pizza and being very satisfied. I only spent an hour here before my I had to fly away to the next part of my adventure (like the fairy I am). But, I definitely will be back to The Rendition Room. read more

Came here to check out the venue, love a nice hidden speakeasy. It did feel like you're walking into the past when you enter the room. Dimly candle kit room, fireplace, old jukebox, private booths. Prior to entrance, you walk to a bookshelf, and have to pull a specific book to unlock the bookshelf which then opens when you pull it. Very fun and mysterious! Scott was our everything: host, mixologist, server and concierge. If we needed anything, he was on top of it. We started the night with the meatballs, which were cooked well and had a nice sauce. Drinks came around the same time: the Tiki on Tujunga and Seven Seas. The Tiki had a nice balance of juices with rums, where you could taste the rum mixed with the dram of all spice, but wasn't overpowering as the juices cut it just right. The Seven Seas had more of a sourness to it, maybe from the lime juice, but was still a good drink. For entrees, we tried the butternut squash ravioli, the short rib with polenta and the carbonara. The ravioli was flavorful inside, but the outside felt dry. It needed a sauce, some butter and/or some fresh grated parmigiana on top. The short rib was cooked well and had a nice flavor. The polenta, however, did not taste seasoned at all, and had a much more grainy texture. I guess I was expecting a nice, creamy polenta. As for the carbonara, it was the most flavorful of the three dishes. The downside was that the poached egg on top was a little over poached to where the yolk didn't run when cut. With the entrees I also had a Mayan Skies cocktail which, for me, was the best out of the three. Nice spice level and the fresh mango puree really elevated the drink Overall, I would say to come here for the ambiance, Scott and the cocktails. It really is a nice, hidden gem in Studio City that would be great for a hangout or a date night. As for the food, it comes from the adjacent restaurant and isn't as great as I would have hoped. Perfect date night spot. The second you walk in your "bartender", which I think is a genuine downplay of what they do, greets you and walks you to the secret door that opens up to a speakeasy dream. Dark lighting, classic songs, clean smell, muffled conversation from other patrons = romance. Scott was our guy for the night and his service was incredible. "Prohibition has made nothing but trouble." - Al Capone Shhhh... I don't want to be called a "stoolie." Still, I can't hold back my appreciation to fellow West LA Yelper and family friend Doug S for arranging a low-key and retro dining experience at this hidden gem in the back of Vitello's Italian Restaurant at Studio City. It was a chilly and drizzling evening, so we parked in the lot (valet service) attached to Vitello's and entered the restaurant. The hostess gave us the lowdown on the House Rules while we waited to be escorted to the clandestine entrance to The Rendition Room. At our precise reservation time, a smartly dressed man, Scott, came to stealthily escort us down a dark hallway towards the hidden doorway (bookcase) and restrooms. He spoke in a no-nonsense and low tone, and we observed that he was the "One Man Show" during our 90-minute stay. Scott was direct yet friendly. However, we understood why he didn't spend much time banter with all the customers after seating them and escorting them in. Scott took everyone's beverage and food orders while also serving as bartender. When the food orders were ready from the kitchen, he delivered and served the meals from memory! Beverages and Food: - New Old Fashioned: bourbon, black walnut bitters, orange oil, luxardo cherry, and rendition mist. My husband's choice, and he enjoyed this cocktail made with bourbon even though he said it was sweet. $18 - Doctor's Orders: Smokey single malt scotch, canton ginger liqueur, lemon juice, and honey. I tried this concoction because its description reminded me of my mother's homemade cold relief sans liquor. Woo! This cocktail is a perfect prescription to combat cold symptoms or none. $18 -Crispy Artisan Bread: served with truffle herb ricotta & hot honey. The short and plump loaf had a slightly hard exterior crust with a dense and chewy interior. The bread slices were an excellent canvas for the truffle herb ricotta. We reminded ourselves not to fill up on the bread since our meals hadn't been delivered yet. $8 -Calamari & Shrimp: flash-fried golden brown, lightly and perfectly breaded calamari and shrimp were served with ramekins of marinara and tartar sauce. We were impressed with their breading since we could differentiate the calamari rings from legs and shrimp. There wasn't any heavy batter to mask the seafood pieces. Each bite was a light, airy, crispy, and non-greasy morsel..$19 -Pesto Gnocchi ($26) + Salmon ($12): the gnocchi were soft, chewy, and plump, and their richness was lightened with an herbaceous and cheesy pesto. I requested salmon as my protein since the pesto would complement its flavor. The other choice offered was chicken, but I've been eating chicken frequently, that I'm about to sprout feathers! There were good-sized salmon chunks distributed through the pesto-cloaked pasta. It was a tasty, rich, and very satisfying meal, and I only ate half of the serving because I thought about having dessert. -Chicken Decision: Choice of parmigiana, piccata, marsala, or Milanese. My husband chose the Milanese-style cutlet. The chicken breast cutlet was thicker than we're used to seeing for the Milanese style, but it was succulent, tender, and flavorful. This entree included a serving of spaghetti aglio e olio. I'm sure my husband enjoyed his entree, and he was hungry because he cleaned his plate. $32 -Classic Cannoli: Filled with creamy sweet mascarpone and chocolate chips, the thin crisp shell reminded me of the excellent cannolis from Boston's historic North End, Mike's Pastry. My sweet tooth was delighted with the cannoli even though I had my heart set on a slice of the Spumoni Cake. Unfortunately, the restaurant didn't have the Spumoni Cake available that evening. I shared the cannoli with my husband, who seemed to hog more than his half. $10 Our dining mates ordered the Carbonara and bone-in Pork Chop as their entrees and shared the sides of broccolini and sweet potato fries. The Italian-American cuisine and speakeasy ambiance were alive and well under the watchful eyes of our bartender/server, Scott. Even as the speakeasy filled during our 90-minute dining limit, Scott kept everyone happy with full alcohol pours and delicious food. We'd love to return with the possibility of catching live jazz or magic performances during dinner time, and we certainly won't worry about having to make quick escapes in case of a police raid. read more

I don't think we could have had a more perfect experience at The Rendition Room for date night. It really had everything, from a secretive and fun atmosphere, a fantastic host/waiter/personality guiding us through it all, super-delicious cocktails, and great vegetarian options from Vitello's menu. We've been to a few speakeasies around town (and, heck, around other towns too.) How fun is it to discover a secret door and find yourself tucked away in a room one can only imagine no one else knows about? Scott is the ultimate host, fast, detailed and so adept at preparing cocktails and making it a personal experience. It's his world...and it's a nice one to visit. I had the Doctor's Orders Cocktail - mixed perfectly...smokey, scotch, and sweet. it made me very happy. My wife thought her Mayan Skies (tequila-based with mango and more) was also pretty and tasty. We were happy to have the full Vitello's menu at our disposal, especially with thoughtful vegetarian/plant-based options on it. I had the Vegan Porcini Risotto...I'm not vegan and would have been perfectly happy to have regular cheese on this, but it was still full of flavor and a good-sized portion. My wife had the Hail Caeser salad with vegan chicken. The "chicken" was nicely cooked and led to a hearty meal for her. We're one drink-a-night kind of people so we couldn't dwell there and try more...but our experience, especially with the cocktails and Scott's superb hostmanship, has us eager to come back. read more

So I wanted to re-review this place after my most recent visit last night. Here we go! Off the bat I want to start with the Pros: The biggest best pro of the night was our Host, Server, Bartender, & Waiter. They were all fantastic aside from the part that it was entirely ONE PERSON taking on all of those jobs himself. Sincerely, Scott was possibly one of the best parts of our evening but he was working his A** off and felt very unfair the amount of work and effort he had to put in trying to do, what looked like, all of it himself. With that being said I really want to emphasize how great Scott was and this review is not a reflection on him in the least. If I could review Scott separately he'd receive 6 stars! The other big Pro were the drinks Scott made. Really Really good cocktails, I had the New Old Fashioned and LOVED it so much that I had a second. The ambiance was very cool and great to see some others dressed up for the environment of the 1930s speakeasy vibe but the vibe itself sort of got tired during our time there. Knowing they are trying to turn the Rendition Room into a membership club it feels like it needs to be elevated and add some more surprise and delight moments within the space. Ok on to the Cons: I hate to say it but the food was just ok, don't get me wrong we ate it all, but as my husband put it, it seemed like his dish and mine were microwaved and then served to us. We started with the garlic knots which were a bit hard but edible. Then my husband had the Carbonara and I had the chicken parm. The pasta in both didn't taste freshly made, nor did my Chicken Parm. They were both perfectly serviceable and fine to eat but just nothing special. In addition when it came time for dessert Scott sadly had to tell us that they were out of quite a few of the options. Our experience was at 6:30PM (fairly early) so very surprising that they'd be out of that many desserts that early in the night. Will we go back... maybe? Possibly just for drinks and avoid the food from the restaurant attached as that was really the big con of evening. I hope the restaurant can take this feedback in mind as well as possibly get some more staffing for the Rendition Room. As great as Scott was, it's not the most inviting environment when the one person working the room has to constantly be moving around doing everything themselves. Literally getting the patrons from the restaurant and welcoming to the room and going over the dos and don'ts. To taking orders, making the drinks, serving everything to everyone, it's just far too much for one person to do. read more

The Rendition Room is a special little place in the heart of Tujunga Village. I have had this place on my list for a few months now and wanted to wait for a special occasion to visit. So when my birthday rolled around this year I knew it was the place I wanted to start my night. It's a speakeasy tucked into the back room, behind a hidden bookshelf door, of Vitello's Italian restaurant. Vitello's is a nice casual neighborhood spot that I have enjoyed coming to for years. This was my first time at The Rendition Room however and I absolutely loved it. When we arrived, we checked in at the host/hostess stand inside of Vitello's. Even though we were there a few minutes early, we waited a bit past our reservation time to be taken back to our table. Someone from the restaurant escorted us back and through the hidden door I mentioned above. Once we entered through the doorway and plush velvet curtains I instantly felt like I had been transported back to the 1920s. We were ushered into a dimly lit room with a bar along one side and booths along the other. We were seated in super comfy armchairs in front of an old jukebox. In the background, I could hear music by the greats like Billie Holiday. Their cocktail list is extensive and the bartender/mixologist was happy to make modifications based on preference. I ordered the Nightingale with vodka while my husband ordered the Mayan Skies without the spice. We actually ended up liking each other's more so we switched but both drinks were delicious. We were also offered a food menu because you are able to order food from Vitello's as well. Because this was our first stop of the night and we had made dinner reservations elsewhere, we just had one drink and enjoyed the ambiance. It truly is a speakeasy and everyone is encouraged to speak at a low volume and refrain from taking phone calls or taking photos with flash. Honestly, this is the perfect spot for a date night or just a quiet evening with a loved one. Upon asking for our check, the bartender asked if I would like a birthday dessert to which I excitedly replied yes. He then brought out a deliciously fresh cannoli and we devoured it as quickly as it came out! We paid and left feeling like we had just stumbled upon our new favorite drink spot. If you want a relaxed vibe and quiet evening but still want the excitement of being out then this is the perfect place to try. I came here with a friend on a Saturday night. She made reservations the late afternoon the same day! There was a 10min wait after we checked in, but they had seating, so it wasn't bad. I absolutely loved the speakeasy ambiance - we were lead through a hidden passageway behind a bookcase and then seated in big comfy chairs with tealights. It is dark in there, but I managed with the menu. My friend had been here previously and raved about the cocktails. I was super excited and got the seven seas while she got the mayan skies. I really enjoyed my drink and the waitresses was super knowledgeable when I told her I didn't want something too sweet. However, my friend's drink left us for wanting more. She expected more mango coming through in the drink. There were so many drink options so we are planning to go back and hopefully both of us get drinks we like! read more

Management here has a reputation for being less than welcoming, and unfortunately, I experienced it firsthand. On my birthday, the owner actually yelled in my face in front of my friends simply because I invited someone to join us--despite the bar being practically empty. The reaction was so extreme, you'd think I had done something far worse. Hospitality is clearly not their strong suit. A quick look at their Google reviews shows I'm not the only one who's dealt with this kind of treatment. Until there's new management, I won't be spending my money here again. If you're looking for a great speakeasy alternative, I highly recommend Old Lightning in Venice or The Roger Room near Beverly Grove. You'll save yourself time, energy, and money by skipping this place. The staff seems unhappy, and the food and drinks just aren't worth it. And one more note: don't let Brad Roen convince you to come back so he can "make things right"--he only made the situation worse. Hope this helps! read more

We had valentines dinner at The Rendition Room and had such a great experience. It was as our first time here and we showed up early for our resy and grabbed a drink at Vitello's bar first. I got a coconut vodka drink and it was Delicious! Had to chug it because you can't bring a Vitello's drink into the speakeasy. Ooops. Service was excellent all around; the hostess, the bartenders, the kitchen staff, the whole crew went out of their way to be friendly and helpful. Speakeasy: We got a seat at the bar inside the speakeasy and be warned: it is a refrigerator in there. They keep it COLD because they store the wine in there? Bring a coat and don't complain. It was real cute in there. If you're a speakeasy lover like me, it's not the craziest reveal but it was a nice romantic and intimate atmosphere. Food: They had a special valentine menu and happened to be out of a few items which turned into a blessing. I had planned to order their pizza, they were out of dough, so I ordered the filet medallions and oooo mmm ggggg, the best I've ever had. Almost pulled a Meg Ryan. Hubby got the scallops and he almost pulled a Ryan Gosling. Can't go wrong with either choices. Drinks: espresso martinis were tasty but the bartender made me a Nightingale , which was a vodka grapefruit and passion fruit concoction that was out of this world delicious. They make all their syrups in house. Price: we spent a lot of money but shiz is pricey these days and the food and service was quality so suck it up buttercups or stay home and order you heart shaped pizza like a peasant. My husband and I enjoyed 3 different drinks each, and every single one was special and fun. We started off with crab cakes, and moved onto the mushroom pasta and the short rib all to share. Everything was impressive and left us incredibly satisfied. Finishing with the pistachio gelato was the way to go. When dining here, take your time and enjoy the ambiance. I dined here on a Thursday at 6:30, but I would imagine it's gets pretty packed on the weekends. Have some kindness and patience with your wait staff. Everyone is always doing their best, and being kind goes a long way in life. We peaked into the Velvet Martini after dinner with the owner, Matt, who warmly toured us through this gorgeous establishment and told us about the shows they host weekly. I had made a reservation at The Rendition Room for Monday night since we enjoyed their drinks so much the first time. When we got there, they let us know while the actual room is closed, we can still enjoy the "full Rendition Room experience" upstairs in Dino's Den, which we have also been to before. We did not mind this as it was the Rendition cocktails we wanted to enjoy that night. Turns out, they don't even have the Rendition menu available, which means that this was a normal Dino's Den night. I don't know why you guys even make Rendition reservations available on Monday nights when the room and the menu aren't available - it's very confusing and false advertisement. We even centered our evening around the Rendition so we had dinner earlier at a restaurant down the street so we could walk to the Rendition afterwards. We were disappointed as we've always enjoyed our time visiting this restaurant. We would have done something completely different with our evening had we known this earlier. read more

I still dream about this experience! I found this hidden gem, called up and asked for a reservation. Inside of a stunning Italian restaurant, behind a hidden door resides this speakeasy feel room. Very old Hollywood feel, romantic, dark moody lighting, and the best service you have ever had awaits you. You are supposed to be a member to go in to this secretive room! We were seated at the bear and the bartender is a mixologist. He crafted and curated specialty cocktails to our liking for the evening. We had so many different types of drinks, many that are super old and we haven't ever heard of. They were all so delicious and I lined the experience of watching a show be put on for each. We ordered a lasagna to share and it came out crispy around the edges, covered in tomato sauce and cheese - the perfect dish. It was hearty, rich, and was just the best lasagna I've had in years. Second time coming to this charming speak easy! First time I came here, the service was a little disappointing but this time it was outstanding! I highly recommend that you RSVP because it's a small spot. They do ask for credit card and there is cancellation fee which is understandable since it's such a cozy spot. Although the space is limited, the creativity and beauty of this place is incredible. Love the lighting, decor, the seats, drinks, and the service! The kitchen was about to close. I think they close at 9pm so I had to order pretty fast since my reservation was 8:30pm. Food and drinks came out fast and it was pretty good! We got the meatballs, sweet potato fries, and the calamari. The food was ok but the ambience, the drinks, and the service was top notch! I'll definitely be coming back! read more

Stopped in to have a cocktail while I was waiting for a friend close by. From the moment I walked in, it felt like my kind of place. Dimly lit, low key crowd, comfy chairs and a full bar that served food. This place is really cool. The vibe and scenery is reminiscent of a speakeasy. I ordered an Amperol Spritzer as recommendation by a group at the bar. Pretty good. My favorite was the Evan Williams Old Fashion. Being my friend never made it, I tried the Margherita pizza to munch on. Super thin crust and tasty sauce. Dave, the bartender was awesome. A pleasant surprise to end the night. read more
