We had an attempted washer delivery that had to be postponed due to our door to downstairs being unusually small (and preventing the washer from going down the stairs). Mr.Handyman was able to send out a tech for the next morning to remove the jamb so that the washer could fit down the stairs and then reattach. Hired them to hang a ceiling fan, which they did, but when they turned it on, sparks and smoke came out charring my ceiling. Turns out they had it wired incorrectly. They then claimed the fan was broken before any of that happened and charged me $400 leaving me with nothing but a broken fan and a charred ceiling. Update - they contacted me a few hours after I posted this review and refunded the $400 and offered to reimburse me for the fan. This was a generous step that they didn't have to take so I was appreciative. read more

Earlier this year I had a disasterous time finding a local handyman to reattach a shutter. The price was either astronomical or the companies were flaky. If you need a job done and you want it done with minimal stress, call a professional company that's reliable. You may pay a bit less elsewhere but, to me, it's not worth the stress of wondering if they're going to reply to your request for a quote or if they're going to show up at the appointed time. My mother brought me up to be a strong independent woman, and I take pride in being able to take care of things on my own, but as I listen to the drip coming down the ceiling in my foyer that I decided to pay a lot of money to Mr Handyman to fix after years, but not the extreme amount of money the first guy wanted to take me for, but still a lot, I feel like a stupid female because there are some things I have to depend on a male to take advantage of me to fix. , Spent a lot of money just for caulking a window that should have fixed the problem. And a ridiculous amount of money for gutter cleaning (my fault just wanted it done and the guy was there. But did pay for him to go to Home Depot for 45 minutes to get a tarp he should have had and his lunch break at Wawa, and I still have a bowl catching the drips from my ceiling. I had a small job that needed to be done, one of my cabinets that has those sliding out trashcans came off and I had a complicated large piece of wall décor to hang up. Without exception every item installed by their workman had to subsequently be redone by another company. Toilet paper holders backwards, shower curtain rod too low, weatherstripping which peeled right off, a shelf which wasn't level by more than an inch, etc., etc. The workman complained about me (!) to his boss because the poor chap didn't want me showing him his errors. I was worried at first about the rate/hour and paying for an estimate, but after going through numerous other companies that proved to be unreliable and a waste of time, we focused on Mr Handyman. What became clear to us is that you are paying for a depth of knowledge, versatility and professionalism that is difficult to find for relatively smaller jobs. When challenges arose (difficult sink dimensions, cabinetry missing parts, etc), Nate knew how to work around them. He was also clearly a craftsman, taking pride in his work and ensuring it met our expectations. The work repairing my door was great. However I was charged for an extra 30 min of work while the bill was being prepared. The cost for repairing hinges on a storm door came to over $400. Seems expensive to me. I would not use this company again. read more

I had used Mr Handyman at my former home so when I moved to Bethel Twsp., PA to a new home and needed work done I tried the local franchise in Malvern. Today they finished probably the most diverse project I could ask. Electrical, plumbing and painting. Ced was my tech was great. I am really pleased with the work. He reviewed all the jobs before starting. Before moving on to the next task we would confirm what I wanted and he would continue. We encountered a problem with a faucet I purchased, he called the manufacturer and they were able to walk him through the final step. He was great, provided explanations where needed. I hope that Ced will be available next time I need work done. read more

Had these folks install a slide in range, which required an electric outlet. The tech installed a 30 amp outlet, which should have been a 50 amp outlet. This could have caused an electrical fire or voided the warranty on my new appliance. Mr. Handyman claims that their techs can "cross trades" when it comes to electric and plumbing. Obviously, this is not true, and is a dangerous practice. There is a reason that electricians and plumbers are licensed and certified. Lesson learned. read more

This company will give you a estimated time frame based on the project, however if the project goes past the estimated time frame they will stop in the middle and not finish the project. I have a half done project and have to wait 3 weeks because they are booked up for them to finish where they left off . Schedule at your own risk read more

Horrible! I spoke with the lady on the phone and we had a wonderful conversation. I asked for replacement pre-hung doors to replace the current damanged bedroom doors and bathroom door in my room. I had such high expectations from the friendly introduction from the co-owner and the understanding I assumed we had formed from our conversation. Low and behold, it took the repairman 2 days to "repair" the work and charged for about a full 10 hrs of work and also explained to me that the pre-hung doors I requested were not on the order form so his job was to simply replace the doors and repair the border! LOL! The photos shown are from the "finished" results of my master bedroom double door entry and bathroom door replacement! Now they attempted to harass me for over a thousand plus dollars! Also, needless to say after less than a week my doors still don't shut! Home Depot will be replacing this in a few weeks for $97 plus the price of the pre-hung doors! I am so disappointed! You would have to be crazy to hire these people! I had some drywall repair and painting that needed to be done as a result of water damage. It was a fairly large job. After providing details to Mr Handyman's screening service they informed me that they work on a time and materials basis with the first hour running $178 and each additional half hour at $54. That doesn't include the paint or other materials. It could end up costing me $20 every time they used the bathroom! I'm happy to pay to have the work done but refuse to be ripped off. read more

I have used Mr Handyman of the Western Main Line for a couple of jobs which were not slam dunks and have my third project about to be scheduled. Experience Example: Richard (owner) and Vladamir (engineer) are both exceptional. One of my jobs was a thermostat for a radiant heat floor. Richard was completely consultative in working with me 'before the sale' to ensure I ordered the right model (there were many and naturally the one I was about to order was incorrect. Richard guided me to the correct model). Vladamir came to the house fully prepared (had read the manual with regards to electrical connections and functionality) and stayed for a good 25 minutes 'after' installation to monitor the performance of the thermostat to 'his' satisfaction (pride of work). That was a couple of months ago and the system continues to operate flawlessly. I have complete confidence in them and will absolutely use them as future needs dictate. Ron (my technician) was excellent. I had a power wash of the exterior, cleaning of my dryer vent, and he fixed some extraordinarily noisy bathroom fans. He showed up on time, walked me through everything before it was performed, and was in and out with very little disruption. Very friendly towards my family as well. Will definitely use again. My only complaint was the first appointment was cancelled a couple days before (a technician had quit). But I'm glad I rescheduled, they did a solid job. read more
