Alright kids...let me tell you a story: In a nearby land, on a magical corner, inside a typical gas station lies a hidden treasure. A treasure so amazing (and tasty) that I can barely contain its unassuming location any longer. Here you will find velvety, and strong garlic sauce, perfectly marinated and cooked chicken and lovely and fluffy rice. What a treasure! What a joy! But in all seriousness, gas station or not, this place serves up some tasty middle eastern food. Its fresh, its garlicky and its plain delish! I often opt for the chicken schwarma sandwiches with either a side of rice or lemon rice soup. Oh and the price is definitely right at Mr. Kabob. My coworker looked horrified when I told him I had found some of the tastiest Middle Eastern cuisine in a gas station. This is a no-nonsense establishment in a Berkley gas station that has speedy quick service and provides some pretty delicious food. I ordered the Chicken Shawarma entree which came with some pretty awesome crushed lentil soup. The chicken - moist and still moist the next day. The rice wasn't overly salted which I tend the appreciate. The garlic sauce is addicting. The menu is vast - a mostly carryout place. Don't make the mistake I made when I shower me true noob self by staring at the menu screens hoping they would show something else than appetizers and salads. This is definitely the best Middle Eastern food being served out of a gas station. It is also probably the best Middle Eastern food I ate in the Detroit area (although I didn't really have a chance to dig deep in Dearborn, somebody please throw in some gems from that neighborhood). All of the sandwiches I ate here were excellent, falafel, kefta, chicken and beef schwarma, shish kebab. The chicken dishes come with the best garlic sauce on earth (although I've heard Zankou's Chicken in Los Angeles is supposed to lay claim to this title). The combo dinner plates are comically large. If you live in the area and like the sandwiches, they have a frequent eating card (something like eight stamps and get a free sandwich). Free is good. read more

Ok, I admit I was skeptical when a friend started telling me about this place. Food in a gas station, whaaaa? But I did try it when I was in the neighborhood and it was fantastic. I got the chicken kebab with rice. The rice is so tasty and addictive. The chicken was nicely cooked and had great spices. I also love their red pepper hummus. I usually am not a fan of hummus, but their hummus is ridiculously good. There usually is a line but you don't have to wait long to place order or wait for your food. Yes, it's in a gas station. Get over it. I said the same thing more than once when people told me about this place. But after trying it, it wasn't long after that I started picking up orders for myself. First, to assuage any fears, it's the cleanest kitchen I've seen in a while (and I've been a certified restaurant food safety manager). They do such a high volume there are probably more people paying for food than gas at this place. Second, enough people at my office are addicted to this that they know us by name, we've created a fax order sheet and we order at least once a week. Ultimately, the food makes a great lunch alternative to burgers or salads. The food is consistent in quality and very affordable (but like everywhere else, they've raised their prices slightly). Getting soup, salad and a very large lunch portion for $7 isn't easy these days. They have quick turnaround - when they say fifteen minutes, it will be that long. People that I mention this place to are instantly turned off once they hear that it is inside a gas station. Once they try the food, they change their minds. Its very good for what it is. Don't expect much if you eat in, there are 3-4 high top tables for the few that aren't there to carry out. Service is consistently fast and courteous. Prices are competitive. The fatoush salads are good, the shwarma is great. I have to hand it to whoever thought up this idea. I have a problem and its name is Sam Salad. I am addicted to Mr. Kabob. Yeah - you read that right. The middle eastern restaurant located in the gas station. Who knew gas station food could be so awesome. I am probably at Mr. Kabob about 1-2 times per week. I always get the same thing. SAM SALAD. Its pretty much the best salad on the planet. A chicken fattoush salad, with feta and rice. I am drooling thinking about it right now. Pair that with their perfectly made garlic dip and you have the perfect lunch or dinner. A small is pretty huge and they pack the carry out container to over flowing capacity. Service is super fast. By the time I pay my salad is usually good to go. If you are in the area - or even if you are not - you must stop by and try something out. My suggestion is, of course, the Sam Salad - but honestly everything is good! I really wanted to like this spot because I have heard good things - however, today I placed a carry out order and they were super rude to me on the phone. I know things are a lot more stressful right now due to Covid, so I brushed it off and chalked it up to a bad day. We all have them. A few minutes later, I came in to pick up my order, and several things really shocked me. First and foremost, every single person working there, from cashiers to cooks, were not properly wearing their masks. They all had their masks pulled down under their chin, not over their mouth and nose. Not super comforting to see. Second, none of them had on gloves. They were all handling food without mask or glove protection. I was shocked. To top off the clear health code violation in the middle of a global pandemic, they spoke about my body and the way I was dressed the entire time, as if I literally could not hear them. I am in long biker shorts and a t shirt - not at all scandalously dressed, not that it matters. To so blatantly sexualize me while I waited for my order was beyond offensive. I kept my cool the entire time, was polite, I even tipped, however I felt beyond disrespected from start to finish. I will not be returning. Ps - just got home and opened up our order. Among many other things, we ordered two shawarma wraps. Both are literally half full - as in half of the wrap is nothing but pita, completely empty. Horrible service from start to finish. read more

Hidden gem in Berkley. Don't be discouraged by its location in the gas station. This spot is well worth a visit. We enjoy the chicken shawarma wrap, falafel hommus (spelling to match the menu) tabouli wrap, the fattoush salad, grilled side veggies, and the hommus is excellent. The lentil soup is so good I felt it deserves its own paragraph. The staff is extremely kind and helpful. My brother in law accidentally picked up the wrong order despite the staff's best effort of reading the items to him at pick up (brother in law didn't know the order, he was only running pick up and delivery). Mr Kabob replaced the correct order and refused to let us pay for the extra food. And the value is amazing. You may want to ask for some extra pita if you get hommus or lentil soup. read more

I wanted to update my review as my most recent trip to Mr. Kabob was actually better all around in terms of the chicken shawarma sandwich. Perhaps they're listening, or perhaps I just happened to come on the right day at the right time, but this time? The chicken on the sandwich was not dried out. It was actually pretty good. As well, while I got to watch my sandwich being made, I was able to let the gentleman who was putting it together that I wanted lots of garlic, as well as onion and tomato. When I informed him that I wanted extra garlic, he *delivered in spades*. While he was planning to put a heaping spoonful on to begin with, when I asked for lots, he went ahead and gave me another complete heaping spoonful on the sandwich, and it was not only noticeable, it helped the sandwich a lot. I'm not saying that it's the best or anything, but it's definitely an improvement over my previous experiences here, so maybe things are looking up a bit. I'll be back again, and hopefully things will continue the trend upward. read more

It's been well covered - Mr. Kabob is in a gas station. Yes, it's surprising to find good food, let alone good Middle Eastern food in a gas station. Just add me onto the list of fans. All I've tried is the shawarma, and that may be all I ever need. It's pretty damned good. Beyond the good food, they're also fast. They get you in and out quickly, even if you don't call ahead. But keep that in mind, you can call in your order, walk in, get your food, grab a drink, and cash out with the gas station cashier. I mostly go around lunch or in the early afternoon, but there's always a steady stream of customers either waiting for their food or waiting to place an order. Oh, and the prices are good, too. I never thought one of our regular carryout places would be in a gas station. As others mentioned, this could turn some off, but get over it and experience some great food. My husband is obsessed with the chicken shwarma. It is the only thing he ever gets and he wants it about four times a week. I usually the the hummus and fatoush sandwich, which is very tasty, or the shrimp kabob or sauteed shrimp. The garlic sauce is addictive and great for making your own pitas. The lentil soup is also something not to be missed, warm, thick, and homey. Love. The portions are HUGE. A ton of meat on a bed of great rice with almonds or huge steak fries. HINT: If you like your fries a bit more crunchy, ask for them to be "well done." The guys are friendly and even now recognize our voices and orders on the phone (only a little embarrassing). By far the best food served at a gas station that I've ever had, outside the deep south. Everything I've ordered there is great, from the stuffed grape leaves, hummous, and fattoush, to the kabobs and shwarma. I've yet to be disappointed. I have long been touting the exceptional, "middle eastern food in a gas station". Hey, I even catered my kids 2nd birthday from Mr. Kabob! I have always thought the food was great, especially the hummus and chicken cream chop (pre-vegan me). Unfortunately, my food last week was so not good...I haven't wanted any middle eastern food since. That's pretty crazy since A. I'm a vegan and B. I work in Dearborn. My husband and kids had the chicken shawarma and beef kabobs...which he said we're not the best he's ever had. But good overall. We all had the hummus. It was terrible. There was zero flavor. Usually we order extra because we like to eat it during the week. Um, I threw out the rest it was so bad. My taboulli was also flavorless and I didn't save it either. I am so disappointed. This is our go to place. We live around the corner. I'm sure we'll give it another chance...but this last experience definitely turned me off. read more

I used to love this place but I jist can't go there anymore. Despite the signs on the door they are not following covid19 protocol really at all. I went in and there were 5 workers working...one sorta had a bandana over his nose. 3 had chin masks. One guy who may have been a manger was walking all over the store with nothing. We've carried out from Mr. Kabob several times, for family dinners and to cater parties of 40 people. We've never been disappointed. If variety is what you'd like, try the Combo for Three. This platter easily serves four adults, and includes Beef and Chicken Kafta (seasoned ground beef and chicken is formed into a long patty and charbroiled), Chicken and Beef Shawarma (marinated and slow roasted), Shish Kabob (beef tenderloin), Shish Tawook (chicken kabobs), Rice or Fries, and choice of Soup or Salad. I get it with the rice, and their amazing crushed lentil soup. We also love their meat stuffed grape leaves, tabouli, and a delicious mujadara (rice, lentils and carmelized onions). Our favorite salad is the Fattoush, which includes lettuce, tomato, onion, cucumber and parsley, tossed with a lemon oil and vinegar dressing and topped with toasted pita chips. Well the location is definitely interesting. Located inside the Sunoco Gas station you could definitely miss it driving by. I went based on recommendation of fellow yelper, Ron C. I ordered up a small fatoosh tawook salad. For a small, it was larger compared to other places. The salad is served up with a large Pita and garlic dip. . Service was definitely fast and friendly. Nice people. I eat middle eastern food 2-8 times a week and have my whole life. This food is quick. After that, it's downhill. Nothing has flavor.. even the garlic. Tabouli is good. House dressing on salad has no flavor. Pita bread is ultra dry. Garlic seems tasteless. Okay in a massive pinch but drive 10 min anywhere else. One worker got pissed when I said Mediterranean.. Ok, so it was kinda weird to go INTO a gas station to pick up my middle eastern food but I won't think twice next time. I ordered what I thought would be a small amount of food but had leftovers for days! My 4 year old is a HUGE fan of hummus and I thought her and I would wipe out these 2 meals. The falafel and warm, crunchy, but still fluffy in the middle. Bread was delicious. Everything flavored really well and the portions were huge! I have been meaning to try this place forever and finally it happened and I wasn't disappointed! So this place is in a gas station and there is very limited parking in this joint. It's more of a carryout restaurant, they have a few tables to sit at but eating in a gas station umm I did it and it was ok.... It was lunch so I got the Chicken Kabob Special, it was $7.50 or something? and it came with soup or salad and rice with a hunk of pita bread with a few turnips. It was alot of food for the price and the Chicken was awesome Super Tender! I got the crushed lentil soup it was good just different from what I've had before at other places. So overall everything good but the bathroom was terrible though! A restaurant with that nasty of a bathroom makes you wonder how clean are they keeping the kitchen? My last review of Mr. Kabob's was only 1 star because of a few different times that the food had lost it's flavor. The manager, Sam, responded on Yelp with a most gracious answer and said that mistakes happen and to please come back and try again. I am happy to tell you that we had Mr. Kabob's falafel wraps and lentil soup on Monday night and it was a fantastic meal. Usually we eat some of the lentil soup and put away the rest for the next day, but it was so good that we ate all of it! It was hot and tasty. The falafel had it's old familiar little crunch to it that was missing in the recent past. I also tasted the magically delicious herbs that made me fall in love with their falafel in the first place. Yum, no more Falafel King for us. Mr. Kabob's is so much better. So I was going to remove my poor review, but I think it stands as a testament that the manager took the time to answer in a kind manner and invite us back. That says so much about this business.
