I love Mr Kabob (or gas station food, as I like to refer to it). Where else can you fill up your tank and get great carry out? This is def middle eastern food done right. Carry out only (okay, so there are a couple high top tables if you'd really like to eat there). Some of my favorite reasons to love Mr Kabob: - made fresh to order. and it is goooood. I'm especially in love with the shrimp ghalaba (sp?), chicken schwarma, red pepper hommous and spinach pies. - Super community-oriented. Sam has been my contact and he is easy going & easy to work with. I do Restaurant Days here (20% of all proceeds from patrons bringing in a flyer is donated to our charity on select days). - Great great great for feeding groups. We have had such good results whenever we have bought for a group. Everyone loves it - even ppl who are sure they dont like middle eastern food. It kills me to write this, but our local go-to Mr. Kabob, has gone down hill. My family has always enjoyed ordering their chicken (you guessed it) kabob dinner. Lately the chicken has been of dicey quality and the flavor a disappointment, at best. As an alternative, we would order the lentil soup (still very good) and a fattoush salad. The fattoush, once filled with crisp lettuce, cucumber and tomato - is now a tremendous failure. The lettuce isn't fresh, and tastes like it's been refrigerated for days, and the dressing is doused on. It's sad, once a Berkley darling, Mr. Kabob's lackluster quality of food has now turned this hit into a miss. And the stern, unfriendly staff (which, let's face it, we would all put up with because the food was worth it) isn't doing it any favors. Here's hoping it can return to greatness. They will steal from you! ask for a receipt. Besides the chaotic atmosphere white everyone was yelling at each other in a different language, the cashier gave me 2$ short. When I confront him he got pissed and told me that my total was more than why my receipt showed. Will never go back. What a shame! read more

Always a solid go-to takeout place for me. Love their chicken cream chop pita (I highly recommend doing half tzatziki and half garlic sauce on it), falafel, Greek salad, and the garlic sauce. I can be super picky about the texture and trimming of white meat chicken and Mr. Kabobs is delish and has never disappointed. If I'm feeling super lazy during meal prep week I will even go and order a large side of it to use as my protein. Been here a few times before and i agree with other people's review. I got the mixed shawarma entree and i feel like the quantity has gotten smaller and its inconsistent. This kills me to write. What happened to Mr.Kabob!? This has been my fav middle eastern joint for over 10 years. Lately, it's been so subpar, this last time was the last time. The meat is dried out. The fattoush used to be second to so fresh and now it's all wilted and ... just unappetizing. The falafel is now served cold. We were in the area and Yelp reviews lead us here. We had the mixed shawarma which is chicken and beef, and at the last minute I ordered a fattoush salad. The food was ready very quickly. The shawarma was on the dry side and only had a small amount of garlic sauce. Boooooo! Even the salad had a weird taste compared to what I've had from other Middle Eastern restaurants. In order to eat it, I had to add my own dressing to cover the taste. Also, get the pita chips on the side since they get soggy very quickly. I have nothing bad to say about the food. It's pretty good. The guys there are jerks though. Every time you call they are rude. I have been goinf home for lunch once a week for a while and had an old punch card they had been punching for the last 3 weeks. I live in the Dearborn area and I've tried a lot of local Dearborn restaurants. Mr. Kabob in Berkley MI is my hands down favorite place for Shawarma and Fattoush . The chicken is well marinated with the perfect burst of flavor. Their salads are a great blend of dark leaf lettuce and iceberg plus all the other goodies. Holy smokes their garlic sauce is so good I can and have eaten it all by it's self. If I'm working in the area or driving miles just to get there it's always worth the trip. read more

I've decided to not go here due to not wanting to support bad relations with customers for mediocre food. Finally made it here! Lunch today was the silver lining of losing all our refrigerated/frozen food to the epic windstorm and power outage of March 2017, I suppose. They do have a few tables, but it's basically a gas station. I'd never have guessed if it weren't for Yelp! I've had a lot of dry, bland beef/lamb shawarma in my day, but the meat in my mix shawarma pita was great. The beef was pleasantly steaky -- juicy with that good, grilled flavor. Great pickles and onions, too. Lentil soup was also quite tasty -- more flavorful and better textured than most. I look forward to trying more of the menu. Extra props for speedy service. This place is amazing. We usually order on door dash. Food comes fresh, hot and delicious every single time. Portions are huge. Beef kafta is actually a complex dish. People don't realize it. We ordered 2 chicken shawarma sandwiches. The chicken had a nice flavor but the wraps tasted stale and dry which ruined the entire sandwich. Additionally, one had an abundance of pickles with only one small piece of tomato. the other had plenty of tomato, but only one piece of pickle. I've developed a fondness for this little place tucked inside a gas station. I have been spending time in Berkley on T/Th's and walking up to Mr. Kabob for lunch. Everything I've had, chicken kafta, shawarma, has been pretty good, but today I found my thing. When you find your thing it's like a magical experience. At Bangkok Cafe, its Pad Prik Khing (chicken only) and Pho Hang, its number 37 seafood Pho, etc. My thing at Mr Kabob is the Sam Salad. I'm not sure who Sam is, but he or she deserves a hearty thank you. The salad is basically fatoosh mixed with feta cheese, toss in some rice and top with chicken shawarma. It's glorious. It's like taking all the elements of a chicken shawarma meal and stirring them together. It's damn tasty and I'm already thinking about my lunch this Thursday. Where to begin with my dear friends at Mr. Kabob... Firstly, heed the warnings of those that have given reviews, this place is inside of a gas station. Do not let that deter you from experiencing the tastes of Mr. Kabob. This place could be inside of a Chinese iPhone manufacturing plant and the cries of thousands of suffering workers couldn't stop me from partaking in some of the absolute best Middle Eastern fare that has graced my fragile tongue. I frequent the area around 12 and Woodward often enough to stop into Mr. Kabobs on occasion. Whenever I get close to the intersection, my taste buds tingle and I can feel the craving for fattoush and pitas complete with hummus and garlic sauce. The extra pitas always hold up well for later that night or a nice lunch the following day. The sandwiches are tantalizing. If you've never had the pleasure of holding a chicken cream chop in your hands and delving into the succulent sauce-covered meat than you are not living up to life's potential. I generally judge chicken shawarma sandwiches by one fairly simple criterion: does it taste like chicken shawarma is SUPPOSED to taste? If it's juicy, heavily marinated in spices, packed with wonderful charred flavors from hours of spit-roasting, and accompanied by a sauce that compliments the flavor, then it's passes. If it's dry, with little flavor other than a vaguely grilled taste, and with a mediocre (or non-existent) sauce -- like the vast majority of chicken shawarma sandwiches in the universe -- then it fails. Mr. Kabob's chicken shawarma passes, with flying colors. You know it's good when a garlicky, juicy, spice-inflected, brown saucy goodness collects at the bottom of the pita while you're eating it. It gathers there at the base, assuring you that the last bite, no matter how full you are, will be the best one. My dining partner, who's not from the area and had never tried chicken shawarma before, remarked, "damn, now I'll be craving these things." The garlic sauce that we ordered as a side was wonderfully creamy and not-too-overwhelming in flavor, and I've heard great things about the falafel and hummous. I've only been a couple times, but Mr. Kabob will keep the 5 stars until a lack of consistency reveals itself, or until I find a shawarma haven that makes this place look bad. It's already been mentioned a thousand times, so I don't need to describe the ambiance (what ambiance?), but the place isn't designed as a sit-down restaurant, so who cares? I should know better than to be dubious of location -- after all, some of Portland's finest teriyaki and Vancouver's best by-the-slice pizza are served up in such modest confines. Mr Kabob does Middle Eastern cuisine in all its broad, amply spiced strokes: succulent chicken and beef shawarma, luscious baba ghanoush, plump falafel, and moist hummus the way my imaginary Lebanese granny would've made it, if I were Lebanese. For a few dollars, Mr Kabob whips up a solid lunch or dinner option. The shawarma is an old standby, a ridiculously generous portion of fine, fresh chicken or beef (I prefer chicken slightly over the beef) seasoned to the high heavens and enveloped in fluffy, warm bread that never gets served stale. Throw in a salad or a fresh fruit smoothie, and it beats any fast food outlet this side of In and Out Burger. Friendly counter staff prepare orders in record time, wrap them up, and deliver with a smile. Catered meals are also great deals. They are my secret go to for housewarming parties, moving parties, cocktail parties, ANY parties. Friends ordered up grape leaves, a tureen of hummus, a bowl of baba ghanoush, and falafel in trays that we couldn't keep our hands out of. The falafel were a smashing success and when grown men were ready to fight over who got to take the leftovers home, I think that speaks for itself. Grape leaves were tight little bundles marinated in sweet-tangy goodness, and they were breathtakingly delicious -- super tasty, bite-sized pieces the way they should be. I haven't tried the soups (yet) but come winter, they're going to be a staple. Better still, with friendly hours, Mr Kabob is the perfect option for dinner when no one wants to cook and facing off against the supermarket check-out line is a torture beyond bearing.
