This is our usual go-to Arabic spot when we don't feel like cooking (for the past 13 years since we bought our house close by), but lately the quality has changed. Seems to have happened with the massive renovation they just did. I wouldn't have written a review but tonight was soooo upsetting!! The lentil soup was so salty and thick that you could turn your spoon upside down and it stayed on the spoon!! The shish tawook dinner was an entire plate of rice with 4 dried out and semi-burnt chicken chunks on top. Usually comes with a decent amount of veggies on the side but not tonight. And the toom tastes weird. Like is it spoiled or a strange new recipe?? Kind of oddly sweet and not garlicky enough. Ugh. That's always my favorite part... my husband's veggie platter had undercooked falafel, mushy. A few times we've gotten all the way home and had no bread to eat our hummus. I walked into Mr. Kabob at 640 pm and the staff was not responsive to our family they were doing a take out order and then they started pulling all the pans up and started to close (there was plenty of food in the pans). They are supposed to close at 8 and they were closing by 645pm. They staff said nothing to us so we left and found somewhere else to eat. I find this to be terrible service , I would not recommend this location. read more

Really like Mr Kabob! Food is ready fast and really good. Their fattoush salad is really good, really like their lentil soup and chicken schwarma! The gas station Arabic joint. Yes, I know you've heard of it, and I know you're curious. Everybody who's anybody who knows anybody will tell you how good the food here is. It's quick fast Arabic food slung out of a gas station convenient shop. I guess you can consider this shop as a hole in the wall. You line up, you order your food, wait a little bit, then pick up your food. There are high tables with high chairs if you choose to wanna eat your food in the premises. But most of the people who come here so usually just for take out. Deboned chicken, fallafel, babaganouj and lastly some shish kafta for the win. The Deboned chicken is very good,, that char grilled taste,, the juicy chicken,, yes!! You are a winner my friend. The fallafel has to be one of the best fallafel I have ever had ever. Babaganouj is very tasty. The shish kafta is outstanding! You wouldn't expect this kind of caliber from a gas station hole in the wall, but these guys definitely know what they're doing. Pros: Food is really good and authentic, especially considering that it's take out. They prepare it fast so I know it's ready to be picked up minutes after I place my order. Food is always hot as well. Portion sizes are huge! Each entree is about 3-4 solid lbs of food and last me multiple meals. Very worth it for the price you pay. I also really love their schwarma and falafel.  Cons: Person who picks up the phone to take your order is consistently rude and hangs up very abruptly, but I think it could be because they are rushed or due to language barrier. Food is inconsistent; you get different things and amounts on different days for the same entree. Some days, I get garlic sauce, and today, I didn't. Sometimes, it seems they just throw whatever they have inside your take out (I had one entree with mainly carrots for my grilled vegetables). Sometimes the grilled vegetables are charred. It's inconsistent.  Mr. Kabob is a take-out restaurant located in a gas station. There are only a couple of tables inside where you can eat at. read more

I really hate to give another bad review to a neighborhood spot but it's been 3 I'm a row now and obviously this place has gone too far downhill not to. I spent $50 on a mixed shawarma plate , some hummus , garlic and pickles. The shawarma was terrible. The meat was tough and flavorless and the chicken was just hunks of charred chicken with very little flavor. The pickles were little more than salty cucumbers. The rice was decent and the hummus was good which is how I came up with 2 stars. Such a bummer because the food used to be great and it's a neighborhood business which I would like to support. Can't justify the prices nor the quality. Now I need to find a new spot for middle eastern. I recommend you skip them. read more

This is my go-to Middle Eastern restaurant! Everything I've had is good and the service is quick. For lunch I'll usually get the half chicken shawarma with grilled vegetables and crushed lentil soup on the side. It is a good size and I usually have leftovers for about half a meal the next day. Mr. Kabob is very close to work, so we sometimes go there to pick up lunch. Don't let the fact that it's in a gas station dissuade you from going there. The food is very good &reasonably priced. The staff is friendly and efficient, and they do a booming business; the counter was completely filled with orders when I walked in and there were a couple people waiting, so I figured it would be a while. But by the time I finished paying (you pay at the gas station counter rather than at the restaurant counter), it was ready for me. They do have a few tables and have made an attempt to make it a nicer gas station, but I would still get your meal to go. One note: I have only had the vegetarian choices, so I cannot attest to their meat dishes. read more

Best smelling gas station I've ever been in !!! Drove by the address twice , not knowing it was in the gas station.......WTF !!! Am from out of town and decided to get gas and ask for directions and while pumping gas I finally saw the Mr. kabob sign and smelled great food!!! Got my order and was thoroughly pleased with the food. Stuffed lamb grape leaves left me speechless. Falafel, not the best I ever had, but were cold when I got back to the hotel. Beef and chicken shawarma meal was amazing and so was my wife's chicken shawarma sammi !!! Will definitely come back here when in the area. Had a very bad experience today which totally bummed me out. However, when you order a sandwich combo and they give you a $6.50 up charge for the salad which cost $.49 less than the sandwich I ordered am paying for at $6.99. I have worked in the food service industry since I was 20 years old and I have never experienced such a rude interaction with someone that works in a gas station restaurant. I will not be coming back the dude working was a complete jerk. They just lost a lot of business. The kid that rang me up was really nice, but it's not my fault that he did not tell me that he upcharged for a side salad would be is expensive as my sandwich. Doesn't make a lot of sense. The shawarma with rice and hummus was good. The half hummus and tabouli wasn't too bad, but would have rather have had them separately. The liquid from the tabouli made the hummus too runny. Bought some better made plain potato chips and it was a good tasty gf option with the hummus. Doing gf for Lent. My large house was fresh and I really enjoyed the dressing. Was the best, now not what it used to be. With a new place on every corner it seems, I would expect a little more from Mr.K, maybe the same but not less. The past few orders have been messed up perhaps due to high volume. But quantity has gotten smaller and meats have changed to cheaper cuts, I don't recall the last time they even offered lamb. Holy hummus, Mr. Kabob is good! Don't let the fact that it's in a gas station throw you off, 'cause they serve some seriously good food. Their hummus is a contender for the best in town. I've always loved this place. Pre-COVID I came often, after my yoga class. My most recent meal was less wonderful unfortunately. My chicken schwerma sandwich was cold (but still yummy) and my baba ganouche was a different recipe. I liked the old style better. It used to be creamy and now it was more textured. I still love their house salad and their dressing. Lots of fresh pita was included in my order. My cold sandwich might have been from ordering online. Next time I'll walk in to see if it's hotter. I grew up in Dearborn so I've been spoiled with delicious Middle Eastern food most of my life. It also means that I'm extremely picky about it. And Mr. Kabob, in all its gas station glory, lives up to the hype. Cheap, delicious, quick...all line up to make one fine eatery. Sure, its casual. There are only a few seats at a window bar for eating in and the rest of the business is the gas station store, but the food is so so worth it. My favorite is the chicken kebob meal. Delicious chicken chunks, perfectly cooked rice, pungent and creamy garlic sauce, plus a salad or soup. I always opt for the lentil soup which is fantastic. If you're on the fence, give it a try. OK Lebanese food, despite some of the attention the place has gotten. The grape leaves were almost uneatable due to the leaves being dehydrated and torn apart. Wow this place is good. No! Its great! I don't know why I think it is so much better than the Lebanese/Middle eastern places around the area, but opinions are opinions. Regardless, this place does a ton of business. I love getting lunch. It's an awesome deal. Chicken, rice (or fries), salad (or soup), and pita for $8 or Kafta for $7. In addition to these, they have all the standard fair. Its the same friendly staff every day who are churning food out and I don't ever remember waiting more than 10 minutes for a carry out. Raw onions on all salads. Bad choice - it ruined otherwise good food, though I didn't get to have much of it...what little I was able to pick the onions out of it was decent. To top it off, the onions were diced, so basically impossible to pick out of the food. 10 years in the restaurant and catering businesses and I can tell you that "no onions" is by far the most common special request. In a Metropolitan area so densely populated with people of Middle-Eastern and Mediterranean decent, there is certainly no shortage of dining options when it comes to those styles of cuisine. I have had some pretty unimpressive meals from "big-name" places that claim to be the best, as well as some awe-inspiringly delicious grub from little unheard-of holes in the wall. So with that being said... don't let the fact that Mr. Kabob is in a gas station dissuade you. This is the real deal, folks. They feature a full variety of Middle-Eastern platters and wraps and the like. However their pita wraps give the best value and are perfect for a lunch or light dinner. Their chicken schwarma wrap is the best I have had in the North Suburbs of Detroit, and possibly the 2nd best I have had in the area, period (right behind Bucharest Grill in Detroit). I have also tried the mixed schwarma, chicken and beef, and it was darned good as well. If you have never tried a chicken cream chop before, Mr Kabob is a great place to start. In short, it is excellent. They also carry some solid sides. I am particularly keen on their garlic sauce, which is a cut above most. And their "steak fries", albeit something you typically wouldn't think to order from a middle-eastern place, are very good. And since Mr Kabob is geared toward carry-out, they add a nice touch of cutting the top corners off the styrofoam container that the fries are served in. This does a nice job of venting steam and keeping the fries from turning soggy. More carry-out joints should take a lesson from this tactic as it really works. The only real reason I am marking Mr Kabob down to 4 stars is that I am not a huge fan of their falafel... though I think this probably comes down to a matter of preference. I enjoy falafel that is bright green and soft--almost moist--in the middle, yet extra crispy on the outside. The falafel from Mr Kabob, though perfectly serviceable, is a bit more run-of-the mill and beige(ish) in color. Also of consideration is the price point. By all accounts Mr Kabob is cheap eats, but it's still a bit spendier than you will find at a number of comparable places in the area... especially when you consider the apparent low overhead and operating costs of the place. It is in a gas station, after all. If you are in the neighborhood and need a quick bite, this place is definitely worth checking out. Even worth a short drive if you are from out-of-town. There are a couple of very small tables inside the gas station where you can eat, if so inclined. Or if your group is a bit larger, there are a number of nearby parks you could have a picnic-style lunch at. Or head a half mile West on 12 Mile Rd and eat at the picnic tables adjacent to Clark's ice cream shop--before indulging in some delicious ice-creamy desert! read more

Not often do I get recommendations to a gas station restaurant. But when I do, I take them seriously. Mr. Kabobs is located in the BP. A smelly, gross BP, with the dirtiest bathroom ever. However, once you reach the Mr. Kabob's counter, it's like you are in a different world. Just don't look behind you. The food was amazing and prices were decent. I ordered 4 vegetarian grape leaves for $3.99. The leaves were displayed on a nice bed of lettuce and included a pita bread. I finished my snack within the next block. Delicious! I still love this place for chicken shawarma and as I make my way through their menu I'll always order at least one but the beef shawarma was a miss for me last time around. It was a little tough, under marinated and not nearly as tasty as the chicken. That said, I've had little experience eating beef shawarma so I think I'll check out Bucharest so I can gain a little perspective on how theirs differs and maybe what it's supposed to be...I can't relinquish any stars though...this place is still the jam! p.s. Some good ol gas station food going on here. My buddy was on a trek for some good schwarma and this place was closest to us and not far from the expressway to make it back to the airport. The place is run pretty good and there are plenty of good options. I opted for the chicken schwarma dish along with a side salad. I only waited a little less than 10 mins for the food. The dish was good and the portion was huge. The meal was ok as I wish I would have went with the wrap instead. There is sitting space in the form of a couple of hi-tops or window seating. I would definitely try again as I some some good surf on the menu. The place is quite popular as there were many people here getting lunch. read more

For lunch, the chicken shawarma is only $7.49 (less than $8 with tax), and the portion is very generous. If I finish everything, I'm usually uncomfortably full. The ingredients are fresh, the service is quick, and I don't feel guilty after eating this meal. I can't ask for anything more!
