I needed a locksmith to help me with a variety of problems that have been adding up over the years: a deadbolt that didn't want to work correctly, doorknob locks for which I no longer had keys, broken mailbox lock, locks that needed to be re-keyed, etc. I found Mr. Locksmith on Yelp and, quite frankly was skeptical about all the praise here for Eli. Like others have said, Eli told me he could come to my house and do the work right away, and within the hour he was here, even though it really wasn't an urgent situation. We went over everything that needed to be done and he gave me a detailed written estimate. The price was very fair. He spent several hours here and fixed everything on the list perfectly. In one case we feared that an older expensive lockset would need to be replaced, but Eli saw that it simply needed adjustment and lubrication, saving me quite a bit of money. The interior door to our brownstone had been missing the locks and electric buzzer strike system for almost four years after a shoddy contractor didn't finish the job he was hired to do and never returned our parts. I called Eli at Mr. Locksmith after reading all the positive reviews on Yelp about him to see if he could help. Eli certainly deserves five stars and more, everything everyone wrote about him is dead on. After speaking with and emailing Eli about what we needed done, he determined that it was something outside the regular realm of what he could do. Eli spent fifteen minutes on the phone with me trying to figure out how he could help me and brainstorming to get our problem fixed, because he doesn't normally deal with commercial electric door strikes. After I hung up with Eli he called me back five minutes later and said he had called his supplier and found what we were looking for (we hadn't been able to find this for three years) and he could be over in an hour to install it, pick up the old part, get the new part, and have us back up and running the same day. Eli showed up on time, was friendly and professional, he took the old fragment piece of the mechanism we had, left and got the new one at the warehouse and was back in an hour. I looked on-line after Eli told me more details on the part and found the lock system and it cost more than what Eli was able to get it for. Eli is not a licensed electrician so didn't want to hook up the lock himself since he is not trained to do it and wanted to insure all the work he did was above board and insurable, so he allowed me to do it since I have some electrical knowledge. We worked together to install the hardware, I hooked up the electric while he did everything else. He had the new doors knobs, strike, and locking system in place in about ten minutes, and because I assisted, didn't charge me for labor on that portion and also gave me a discount on his labor. Eli was very conscience of his pricing and being competitive and made ever effort to give me every discount possible. The job went off without a hitch, everything looks great, and Eli's services was fantastic. Eli is a consummate professional rolled into an extraordinarily decent human being, I just bought my house and needed the locks changed and a deadbolt added. I also wanted all the locks (lock on a sliding door included) on the same key. I spoke with Eli and after a few minutes of attempting to describe the locks we decided that sending him pictures would be the best way for him to make an accurate estimate. In less than 12 hours Eli emailed back an estimate with a detailed explanation of the possible fluctuations ( +/- 10% max) in price due to complexity of the existing locks. He quoted a great price that was 15% percent lower than my previous dealings in Cambridge and then offered the additional 10% for yelp. Eli is terrific. I used him last night when my deadbolt broke and I was locked inside my apartment. I used Yelp to read reviews of locksmiths; Eli's are outstanding, so I gave him a call. He told me he'd be at my house in about 40 minutes. He arrived promptly, and went right to work. He's very skilled, which means that he sizes up the problem quickly and works very fast. He removed the old lock in a very short time, though he had to work from the outside with a drill. Then, he talked to me about a replacement lock, and offered products in three different price ranges, without trying to push the priciest one on me. In fact, he told me that he uses the midrange lock on his own doors. The whole time he was at my home he was incredibly pleasant. It was a pleasure meeting him. He is very good and very nice. I can honestly say his positive reviews are well deserved. Meeting someone so nice when I needed a service call turned my whole night around, from disastrous to just one-of those-things. I contacted Eli to get a quote to replace locks on a regular and a french style lock. Unlike other locksmiths who responded with "sure we can do it, when do you want to schedule" he asked me to send photos of the doors/locks in question. I need to start out by saying, I never really had Eli do work for me at home. When I called to inquire about re-keying a lock that I had just purchased at Home Depot, he told me that I could take it back to the store and they could re-key much cheaper than he could.
