Although we did not call around to compare prices, his prices seemed commensurate with what I seem to recall others saying. Although my husband ended up finding the key, I thought we were missing the key to one of our doors. He told me over the phone he would try his best to 'pick it' so that we could simply rekey it and not need to replace the whole lock. As mentioned, husband found the key so this was not necessary, but I appreciated his willingness to try and save us money. He was punctual and professional. My company owns this condo in Coolidge Corner and we needed to replace the dead-bolt because it was...well, dead. I needed a locksmith to meet me down there and replace it, and get me into the condo so I could skip out of work for an hour and watch the travel channel on the flat screen t.v. Wow! I'm blown away. So much so that if there were six stars, I'd give them! I contacted 24/7 Mr. Locksmith when our back door lock jammed shut. This was due in part to a faulty installation and substandard lock that was installed about 3 years ago for waaay too much money, as my husband laments. So I went to Yelp for help. So imagine my delight when I spoke to Eli who said he could be here in 30 minutes. You know, 30 minutes from now. Great. Eli is honest, straightforward and got right to work, while giving me an up-front estimate. He showed me why the lock jammed and shared how he doesn't even sell this type of lock due to these problems. He said the deadbolt was essentially okay, but we actually wanted him to replace both items. Isn't it nice not to be upsold and told the truth? Y-E-S. The new lock is so much better than the former one. The rate was reasonable and honest (I can only imagine what we could have been charged by someone less reputable), and my husband and myself were very much relieved and grateful. Finally... a locksmith that you can trust! About a year ago, I was locked out of my place and needed to get in right away as I was catching a train to NYC in a couple of hours. I called one of the first locksmiths that came up when searching google on my phone, and it went down hill from there. The guy came about an hour and a half later (they said he'd be there in 1/2 an hour) and without telling me what his plans were, he drilled right into the lock and said that he now had to replace it with a new one... fast forward to when it came time to tell me how much I owed.. he said $360... after a lot of yelling, I got him down to $250 but still had a crappy looking new lock and felt like I got porked...AND I missed my train to NYC. Now, a year later, my new lock isn't working, so I called the same company back to complain/get someone to come look at it, and they were totally shady. NOTE: Always ask a locksmith what parent company they work for, if it's Dependable Locks, DO NOT work with them... They have contractors that work for them that don't have the skills that they should have. If you do decide to have a Dependable Locks Locksmith come out and his name is Ari, please punch him in the nose for me. Anyways, when he came out the second time, he said that the internal lock mechanism was broken and it would be $800 to fix at the least.... I told him to get the F outta my house. I then decided to go on Yelp and search for Locksmiths and found Mr. Locksmtih and all his great reviews, so I had him come out. Eli was really great... he took his time assessing the situation, and determined that the replacement lock that I had to pay $250 for last year was the wrong size and that's why it wasn't working... he put in a new one that was the right size, and it worked! Eli gave me other options as well around the mechanism as he said it will need to be replaced at some point, but it would probably only be $500 including labor. Net - Net... This company is FANTASTIC. I called for an estimate/assessment of damage after our door had been kicked in, and Eli came over within 30 minutes. He is so honest that after looking things over, he told us our locks were actually in secure shape and better than anything he could replace them with, and told us to just make sure the dead bolt was always used ( It was not when the door was kicked in) His service fee was also much less than the local locksmith in Beacon Hill. We had a break-in on Saturday afternoon and decided to change the locks right then. Mr. Locksmith was willing to be at our house after 5:00 pm on a Saturday to change all of our door locks. He was very knowledgeable and professional and did a great job of explaining what our options were as far as replacement of the cheap locks that we had. We ended up buying 6 locks from him which he installed and then he fixed one of the existing ones for free. He didn't even charge an extra fee for showing up on Saturday (which another lock company had asked for). Also he guarantees the locks for 3 years. Based on Yelp reviews, I contacted Eli about changing out several locks in a new apartment with 3 doors and a different lock on each one. He was able to come out the next day and was flexible about coming out when it worked best for our schedule. Once he arrived, he looked at our locks and told us what he was able to do based on the locks in place. He was able to rekey two of them the same and the third door went on a separate key way. He took the time to explain everything, offered the option of silver or brass colored locks, and completed the project quickly. Wow, this guy is an exact antidote for the horror (or at least vast discomfort) that comes with locking yourself out. On a Monday morning, I accidentally locked the doorknob lock to my apartment that I don't have a key for, AND forgot my cell phone. And my work cell phone. And my husband was out of town. And none of my neighbors were home. But I did have my laptop - of course I couldn't call for help without checking Yelp first - and when I did call Eli (blurry and on Skype with my cheap laptop microphone/speakers) he was kind, knowledgeable and up-front about the price. I told him I didn't have a phone so he was very careful about when he would meet me outside and how he would recognize me. He arrived within an hour as promised, and I told him about how amazing his reviews are. He said, "Yes, it's because I'm honest." He brought out his tools and took the time to explain what he was doing and what the pricing would be based on, and how he would try his best not to damage the door. He explained the process he uses, starting with the least damaging/least powerful tools and then working his way up. On a cold day early this winter my bf and I decided that we wanted to bring our bikes inside before the snow hit. The only problem - our Kryptonite U-locks had frozen. After trying a little to hard to unlock my bike, we broke the key off in the lock (boo)! We called up a couple of locksmiths who gave us crazy estimates for lock-cutting services (between $40 and $300) or who refused to give us estimates (who knows? i gotta take a look to know) or who called us back repeatedly trying to convince us we had already asked them to come over and take a look (who knew the Boston locksmith world was so sketchy?!). Every semester, we get the locks changed at our house for safety reasons so this time we tried Mr. Locksmith. Eli (Mr. Locksmith) arrived on time and worked diligently from start to finish. He made sure to explain every step of what he was doing and where the different prices for the different kind of locks came from. He also did a bunch of things like oiling all the locks without charging for it. We needed to replace an old door knob on our apartment door. It was drilled out a few years ago when we got locked out. That locksmith estimated it would cost about $500 to replace. Eli checked it out; explained everything that had to be done; it cost less than half of what the other guy quoted. I had Eli come to rekey the locks to my new house. He was punctual, called back to confirm the appointment and generally communicated very well about the situation. One thing that I wasn't expecting was that he recommended for us to replace the door handles and locks instead of simple rekeying. This may sound like a sales pitch, but Eli was very up front with saying that he would be happy to rekey the existing handles and deadbolts, but considering the wear and corrosion I would most likely be calling him back in a year or two replace them then.
