Maple donuts are in my top 2 favorite and it's hard to find some in PDX that aren't dry or have the wrong proportions of donut and frosting. I passed by here and I just had to. I went inside and they had multiple versions of maple donuts. Double maple: maple bar with maple cream filling, marbled: maple bar with chocolate drizzle, and the regular maple bar. I tried them all and they are delicious! My daughter got the chocolate ring and the cream cheese donut and would not share. She said it was so good. I have noticed that when we go in and order a couple of donuts vs. a dozen, they pull the donuts from the baking tray, which are very fresh. The donuts, especially the marble maple, pulled from the display case don't seem as fresh. So, I started asking for my donuts off the baking tray, when available. Probably the worst donuts I've had so far. My daughter got the pink sprinkle, my husband had an old fashion and also 15ct of donut holes half chocolate and glazed. Each donut was so dry you'd need some water. On top of that, the young adult in the front had attitude asking us how many donuts we wanted and didn't give us time to look at the menu. I don't eat donuts often, but when I do... It's Mr Maple! These are seriously high quality donuts at very average prices and in my opinion far more delicious than any "gourmet" donuts you'll get for $5 a pop in Portland these days. True to their name, the maple bars are absolutely delicious - whether you get the marble bar, regular maple bar, or maple stuffed bar (a little too much maple for me!). The best jelly filled is definitely the guava - so good! We have always gone on the weekends at peak times (~9-11am) and they have never been out of any flavors. The donuts always taste freshly baked and their dough is perfectly chewy, never dry. Is your mouth watering yet? The only issue I have with Mr Maple and the reason for 4 stars is their coffee. I've tried their coffee a couple times and it just isn't good and super watery. Whenever I get a donut I want coffee to go with it and have to go somewhere else for the coffee. Fortunately Brewed Awakenings has a stand in the parking lot and we usually grab coffee from there on our way out, but makes for a lot of time in line and I wish they just had a decent drip coffee at Mr Maple. read more

Came into Mr. Maple Donuts for the second time on a drizzly Thursday when I my house was craving something sweet and I wanted a special treat. The donuts hit the spot! Parking was abundant, as always. Inside was clean and orderly. The tables and chairs have been moved for to-go orders only. Staff are in masks and there's hand sanitizer that reminded me of grandmas floral bomb. Beware o'ye hand sanitizer - but it's not food related, so it doesn't effect my review one bit. The donuts were my cakey heaven!! And HUGE! These are easily twice the size of store bought bakery donuts and filling. The quality is way better and the cases are always perfectly arranged. In fact, I was given several donuts fresh off a cart, not even touched the case. At 5:45 on a Thursday. The staff was friendly and helpful to boot. Excellent and will definitely be back! Mr. Maple has only been around since March of 2019, but they're doing everything right! Their shop is bright, clean, open, and welcoming. The staff is very helpful and friendly, the prices are more than reasonable, and the donuts themselves are just fantastic! My eldest son "hates donuts", but actually really liked Mr. Maple's offerings. They were such a hit with me and all of my kids that I went there two days in a row. Mr. Maple donuts have a really great, deep, complex, "yeasty" and fermented flavor. I've not had a donut with that flavor profile in decades. The plain raised glazed is perfection. All of their others that we tried were fantastic, too. You'll be able to get some varieties that I'd only previously seen at Dunkin' Donuts, but Mr. Maple's renditions are far better. Maple everything is right. I'll maple my rice. I'll maple my body.... Mr. Maple Donuts is the newest donut shop in the neighborhood. It doesn't try to advertise themselves as the fancy gourmet type so don't go coming in acting snooty. Shooooooo. What Mr. Maple Donuts does remind me of is a fusion of Krispy Kreme and Dunkin Donuts. The quirkiness of Dunkin mixed in with the quality-esque of Krispy. I bought 60 donut holes for my lovely coworkers. 30 of the glazed raised and 30 of the glazed caked. Similar taste, but raised was my favorite. It was light and not overly sweet. I could have easily ate 10 in a sitting. For donuts, I got a maple twist, cinnamon crunch, and an old fashioned. The maple twist was goooooooood. The dough was pretty soft and chewy and the maple frosting just brought it up. A decent donut deserves recognition. However, I'd like to give the award to the cinnamon crunch as that was like a Voodoo type of donut. I like maple and I like this place. Cute little spot in Hazel Dell! It's very new. I came in to grab some of my employees donuts. There were so many donuts to choose from. Ones I had never heard of before! Whats your favorite flavor donut? Mine is Maple, and low and behold I drive by a place called "Mr. Maple Donuts" oh hell yes! Early Saturday morning shopping at Winco before the place gets crazy. Grabbed a $.59 apple fritter for my partner. The clerk says to me " so you like apple fritters, have you tried..." and I stopped her and said Mr. Maple Donuts? She said yes, its so good and they have 5 kinds of fritters. We wrap up our conversation and I'm on my way to Mr Maple, just a few blocks from the Winco. I walk in and the amazing smell just overwhelms you. the place is bright and clean and smells wonderful. The display is full of colorful donuts and other goodies. I take one look at the fritter line and was blown away and the size of these things, it makes my Winco variety look like a reject. Service was friendly and fast so I picked two apple fritters and one double maple donut. No need to get a dozen, because I would just endup eating them all. No one wants to see that! LOL Got home and did a proper side by side. First off this thing has a lovely crunch with great chew, where the Winco version is very dry and flavorless compared. MMD is way bigger and has so much more apples and just overall better donut! The double maple glaze was exactly that, maple on the outside and inside. I'm not a huge sweets guy so normal glaze is propably good enough next time. Thats just personal preference, but it was quite yummy after the initial sugar rush/insulin shot (j/k) Overall this place is great!
