Aloo Matar, Plain Naan
Liza G.

This is literally the best Indian food I have ever . They are experts at dialing in the spice to your liking. I have been unable to tolerate spicy food, while my husband prefers medium spice. Both of our meals were perfect. My dish, Aloo Matar, was not spicy at all but full of delicious flavor. I got the box with the rice pudding, soup, rice and naan. My husband did the same with butter chicken. The portions were huge and we got two full meals each. We just moved into the neighborhood and stopped into this family owned business craving Indian food. Everyone was friendly, and they have a large menu with lots of vegan & vegetarian options. My husband loved his buttered chicken so much he was licking the sauce with dog his plate! I can't wait to get takeout from here again. This spot is awesome. So excited about it.

Right next to the hotel and I decided to try it for a late lunch. I ordered the tandoori shrimp meal which is tandoori shrimp, lentil soup, rice, naan and rice pudding. The server let me know that tandoori takes longer to make which was fine with me. I was not in a rush. The lentil soup came first. It was not bad, a good start. Then the rice and naan came out with an accompanying sauce. I don't know what sauce it was and didn't ask. Maybe palak soup? Anyways I used it to add flavor to the rice and naan. The shrimp tandoori came out on a sizzling platter. The meal was fine. Filling and the tandoori shrimp was good. The rice didn't have a lot of taste by itself and the naan too. Maybe a curry would have been good with them. The rice pudding was ok. The restaurant is simple and clean with Christmas lights on a pole in the middle where the servers worked from. And a photo of with the words 'Don't worry, eat curry.' Funny. The lights are pretty. Service is average. Good for a solid meal close by to the Hotel Figueroa.

This spot is alright! The best part is its proximity to many attractions in DTLA, if you're attending something in the area. Try to find either street parking if you're lucky, or paid parking in a garage/lot nearby. The service was good, the room was spacious, and the food was decent. Not the best and not the worst.

Tried so many Indian restaurants in SoCal.. hands down the best one out there!!! This place is our FAVORITE and they never miss.

Mr. Masala is close to downtown hotels, the convention center and arena. We had papadum, lentil soup, chutneys, dal and shrimp curry. We asked for mild spice and it came out mild. Everything was hot and tasty. Service was fast and friendly. Special orders are no problem. Best of all they have a vegan menu section. Recommend...

The food here was delicious! I was on Uber Eats and wanted to try something different from what I usually eat, and this place caught my eye. The chicken in the Tikka Masala was nice and tender, and the flavours were so good and savory. I also got some naan, and it was soft and nicely coated with garlic and basil. The serving size is a good portion, too, at least it was for me. I got full with half of it and had to save it for tomorrow, although, since it was really good, I wanted to keep eating despite being full Both were great, and I would order from here again!

Chicken curry. Terrible.

The worst Indian food I've ever eaten. Raw masala. Chicken curry is watery and tasteless. There are raisins in biryani. Called the restaurant, they swore at us and said we had no idea what Indian food was (my husband is Indian btw).

Was looking for a gluten-free, dairy-free lunch near the LA Convention Center and decided on this place. The dining room was empty - - I'm guessing they do more take out. Service was slow but food was delicious.

If you're in the area for a game of any sort this place is within walking distance of the Staple Center/Crypto Arena whatever you prefer to call it ;) It is a cute, well decorated restaurant. The naan and samosas was delicious, the chicken tikka masala was good but light on the spice for my palette. I would order it no lower than Medium spice level. I'd be back to try other dishes when I'm early for a game.

This was my first time trying Indian food & it didn't disappoint. The service was great & the food was very tasty, everything came out fresh. The combo plates are VERY big, you can definitely split between two people FYI. I got two combos and we took a lot of leftovers home. I will be back!

Not sure why, but since there have been other locations around the LA area over the past several years, maybe they're just moving again. I wish them all the best! I keep coming back to Anwar's Kitchen for one simple reason: the food is consistently good. Not…read more"pretty good for takeout," not "good on a lucky day," just genuinely solid every single time. This time, I went with the Anwar Style Chicken Shawarma to try something new. The portion size alone is impressive. The container is packed and feels substantial the moment you pick it up. The base is a bed of fries, and these are not just filler. They are thick, well seasoned, and sturdy enough to handle all the toppings without turning into a soggy mess. On top of the fries is a generous amount of chicken. The chicken tastes freshly cooked, with that warm, savory flavor you expect from good shawarma, never dry and never overly salty. There are pita chips mixed in, which add a great crunch and texture against the fries and chicken. Multiple sauces are drizzled throughout the dish. I chose a side of their spicy sauce. The creamy white sauce balances things out, while the orange sauce brings a mild heat and a little extra depth. None of the sauces overpower the dish, they work together to coat everything evenly and keep every bite flavorful. Diced tomatoes and corn adds a touch of sweetness that surprisingly works really well here. A sprinkle of herbs throughout helps brighten everything up and keeps the dish from feeling too heavy, even though it is definitely filling. This is comfort food done right. It is messy in the best way, packed with flavor, at least to me it was. If you are looking for something hearty, satisfying, and consistently well made, I will always recommend Anwar's Kitchen. Anwar's Kitchen delivers quality food, and I will keep ordering from them.

It was also annoying for the waitress (not the gal that served us btw - a host perhaps) to give the vibe like they were doing us a favor by applying the $50 Birthday promo that THEY send via email (note, I verbally this flagged when we arrived just in case - but they didn't initially have it on our bill). My head is thinking "calm down--we ate minimally and got drinks. Don't offer it if you're going to have an attitude about adjusting the bill". It was just weird. They also didn't offer any bday dessert treat but we weren't super pressed bc we were so full. The meat was a bit overdone and all kind of tasted the same this visit. Didn't get to try the lamb chops and a few other meats, but still has a nice variety. Salad bar is top notch and consistent, although wish their black beans were plain due to all the meat. Drinks were ok--heavy pours but lower quality wine. The $29 "Wine Experience" package was worth it for my husband who likes variety of wines with his dinner depending on what he's eating. I'm sure I'll come again but it's been bumped a few notches on my Go To list.

Service was great. The bartender and server were both super knowledgeable and helped guide us through everything, which made a big difference with a menu like this. The ambience is beautiful. Big bar in the back, great lighting, a mix of natural and more moody tones that make it feel elevated but still comfortable. For mains, the pot pies are a must. We tried the biryani and the butter chicken versions, completely different but both worth it. Portions are huge, you will have leftovers. The quesadilla with fajita peppers and tandoori chicken was such a cool fusion idea and worked really well. I feel in American restaurants, fish is just cooked in a way that makes it just taste ok.
