Wow! My hubby and I have been going to this area since our college days to present for 'SC games. And boy, am I so happy to find this place. First, the parking lot is tiny so be forewarned. Delicious! Stopped by driving through the neighborhood and was so delighted to have such a good dinner. We both enjoyed a Thali Dinner which gives you a little bit of a lot of different foods including salad and dessert. I had the goat and was really surprised I guess I'm a goat fan!! It was so juicy and tender in a sauce that perfectly complimented but didn't over power. We also shared Naan with cheese inside. Highly recommend giving this place a go and also I bet it will be good family style for if you want food delivered to your house. We also got the pakora, which were fried vegetables, and they were crisp and came with two good sauces; highly recommend this. The samosa included two samosas. Everything tasted fresh and flavorful and our server was attentive. The nanny was very buttery and tasty. We also ordered rice and a strawberry lassi. Himalayan House offers flavorful and complex dishes! I visited on a Monday night, and it was completely empty. The service was super quick due to this. My table of two started off with the fried momo with chicken filling. It came with a rich and creamy dipping sauce, which was stellar. The momo itself was surprisingly not crispy at all. We might have received the steamed momo by accident. Despite the unexpected texture, the filling was juicy and delicious. I also got a mango lassi, which was so creamy. I finished the mango lassi quickly because it was perfectly sweet and tart! For the main dishes, we tried the beef chili and the chicken tikka masala. The beef chili paired nicely with some rice because it was saltier than expected. The beef pieces were chewy and covered generously in sauce. The chicken tikka masala was my favorite! The chicken cubes were tender, and the sauce itself was incredibly rich, just a little spicy, and so smooth! Our waiter highly recommended the restaurant's garlic naan, which we also tried. The naan was piping hot when it arrived. It tasted so delicious on its own and paired well with the main dishes. I could not get enough of the chicken masala and garlic naan combination! The prices for this restaurant were good considering how much food I received. The interior was decorated with nature photos and statues. The service was very slow. When I first went in, it took at least 15 minutes to get a server to come back to the table to even ask for water. The mango lassi was very thin, it was not a rich/creamy drink at all. I have the veggie. thali with paneer masala, dal, sabzi. It came with a small green salad with no dressing, you could only have one or the other in terms of rice and. roti I of course wanted both, so I ordered it with the rice and then ordered paratha on the side. The portion would be considered quite small, and the food was not especially good, I think the masala sauce was premade and then just had some chili powder mixed into it. it came with a teeny tiny serving of. Kheer that was served right on the. thali at the same time as the other courses. The glass of water I received came with no ice, and there was no question if I wanted ice, and it tasted to be tapwater, and it was served in a Tumblr, the lassie was served in a modified Tumblr basically what you would call a soda, glass or Coca-Cola glass. The only napkins were paper napkins. All this said, it is certainly important to remember that there is a difference between fine, dining and casual style dining. There were no complementary popperdoms or chutnis provided with the meal, which is quite common in many south Asian restaurants. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't mine blowing, and I really would've wanted a bigger portion. The place did appear to be on the clean side, the table top was very clean, the place as a whole smelled fresh with the typical Indian spice smell that you would expect in this type of a restaurant. No dry food or grime or anything like that on my utensils or glasses, all appear to be quite clean. I may try to do a to go order from this place at some point, there are a lot of restaurants where you always get more food if it's a to go order because they're filling the containers versus putting it on the thin. Thali type dishes, but that depends on the place. Especially considering the locality in the university area, this place could do well doing one of those mini buffets available during certain hours for lunch or at least on the weekends. read more

Himalayan House is a wonderful spot for South Asian cuisine that's also really close by to USC and with vegan friendly options/modifications as well. Before I begin, I do need to mention that menu prices are different online than they are in-person. The Thali's average around $14 when you order on their website but for some reason, was around $16 when we saw our menus. Not a huge difference but still something to consider. My small group of five came here for last minute dinner plans and were seated immediately, almost a rarity here in LA. I'm glad we didn't let us being the only patrons for a while deter us because the food here was delicious. In fact, it was nice since it's a smaller restaurant so we felt safe and comfortable catching up. Their menu has a variety of options from curries to stews, meats to veggies, and plenty of bread options. While nothing on their physical menu is marked vegan necessarily, the staff are knowledgable in letting us know what items were vegan friendly or not. If you're unsure, just ask! Our group shared a round of appetizers including the Aloo Achar ($7), an amazing spread of cooked potatoes with sesame, garlic, cilantro, etc. , a set of their steamed veggie momos and finally their samosa. Everything was delicious and tasted fresh. The potatoes were our favorite and they kept us satiated until our main entrees came out. Each of us ordered a Thali ($16), a Nepalese combination platter with various entrees including lentils stew, rice, vegetables, and our choice of main. I went with the vegetarian jackfruit curry with an 8/10 level spice. Personally, I did not find that spicy enough but my friends were sweating. To each their own? Instead of naan, roti is the vegan alternative and unfortunately could not have the rice pudding dessert but that is okay. The entire combination platter was so good! I loved the lentils and jackfruit/potato curry, something I don't see as often on menus. All around, this meal absolutely filled me up. Overall, it was a fantastic dining experience at Himalayan House and I would absolutely come back here again in the future to try more of their veggie items. The thali set is something you must try if you haven't. Free parking is available in a private lot right in front. read more

This is a great place for takeout! We easily ordered online. When we arrived the food had just been packed so I could feel how warm it was through the bag. We got the chicken Tika masala, saag paneer, and chicken byrana rice plate. Soooo good! The spice level was perfect. I have so much love for this place it's unreal! My very first visit was 2015, and the juicy chicken Momos are Mandatory for a Nepali, IYKYK! To find a perfect place that does it good is so hard to find but I am so proud to call this place my Home, my big sisters kitchen, my happy place. Literally everything in this place, the food is finger licking yummy, the service is professional and attentive, the ambiance has cultural authenticity, don't forget the soothing Nepali musical tunes and the traditional Decor! Recently, I organized a birthday event for my grandma which was a Hit! The owner Renu Didi (sister) is such a wonderful soul, I can't thank her enough for being supportive and caring for everything does. She runs the entire restaurant by her self sometimes, she's the chef and the host of the party. It was Epic! I am blessed to call this food chain, my home in LA. The place is super cute. It's small but since it's in a plaza there is parking. They also do delivery and pick up! Ordering was super convenient, it's all done via the Yelp app. The food was okay. It met my craving but I have had way better Indian food, it's alright. We purchased two orders of the Chicken Tikka Masala, 2 Garlic nan, two orders of white rice and 1 order of samosas. The Chicken tikka Masala was very watery and lacked flavor. It came off as watered down and all you really tasted was butter. Oh also the chicken was in square chunks which made it look like school food. I would give this plate alone 2 stars. However the bread was super yummy, the rice was good, and the samosas were delicious which is why I'm giving it three stars. The chicken tikka was abundantly flavorful and just sweet enough to be enjoyable, and the butter naan had a perfectly contrasting taste and texture. Pretty good place! I was the only one there dining in (came at a random hour on a weekday) but they were really fast and the food came out hot and tasted fresh and made to order. Also saw a bunch of people coming in the grab orders for pick up / Uber eats during the 30mins I was there, so I assume it's pretty popular. The paneer was a great texture and sauce was creamy (a little too sweet for me but still good) Samosas we're super tasty and the chutneys paired really well with it, definitely was more on the potato heavy side tho.
