(wears glasses and desperately needs a haircut) We were trying to decide between this restaurant and another and decided on the other instead. A worker from mr pho walked towards us saying that the door is unlocked and to walk in. We were pressured by his words and decided to leave due to his attitude and how packed it was. After leaving he came out and asked why we didnt come in, mocking us for being "too broke" to eat there. Rude. How disappointing and disrespectful. The food and service is excellent. The Beef Combo Pho was delicious, their broth is fire! This Pho beat out quite a few other spots we have tried. The shrimp and lobster garlic noodles were also delicious, reminds me of Sopa Seca (top ramen noodles with butter and seasoning, no broth) plus the lobster and shrimp. Third time here and it really hit the spot. I got the beefy pho bowl this time and the broth this time was so delicious!!! Full of flavor and that golden broth that you look for in a pho bowl. The beef rib - so tender and the meat gently fell off the bone. One of the "decent" pho's in Merced but def a hit or miss, plus your order will take a while unlike typical pho establishments. Today I ordered the fried egg roll appetizer and was told they dont have that because they have limited egg rolls and were saving it for the vermicelli dishes that come with egg rolls. I asked if I can order even just one or 2 on the side and they said no, lol. Mind you, it was noon, pretty early in the day to be running out of stuff. So they would rather not sell the eggrolls (although 4 pcs as an appetizer for over $9 is on the menu) because they are anticipating people will order the vermicelli dish that comes with it? My pho was also way too salty today and I put some of the vinegar from the pickled jalapeno on the table, noticed right after there was HAIR SWIMMING INSIDE THE JALAPENO JAR!!! Yikes! Service: It was just okay. Nothing to rave about. The server came by and ask, "Is there anything else you need while I am here". Super happy when Mr. Pho came to Merced and especially for their added vegan options! As a frequent visitor, I definitely recommend! This Pho tasted so much like cinnamon, it was super sweet as well. I could not even counter the sweetness with chili oil. I was not happy with the cost and quality. Also, when I called I was trying to order egg rolls with it and the lady suggested no because she said the Pho should just be enough. That was just wild to me... From what we can find in Merced and from what I have tried, this is the best for Pho . The broth is a bit tame and not an explosion of flavors (which I tend to enjoy). We normally love Mr. Pho. I tried calling to order take out for over an hour. No one answered the phone. I went in to place my order. It was not crowded at all. I waited over 40 minutes and was served fully cold bloody raw steak. It dripped on the noodles. I tried to call them and they did not answer. We have brought takeout from them several times and have never experienced this. I can't imagine why they thought it was okay to send food home with us that we would have to cook. I read a review that said something to the effect of the broth not being able to stand on its own which I'd like to strongly contest. Because I read this, I made the concerted effort to try it on its own before I dump my typical 5lbs of chili oil in. I was actually so impressed! Very flavorful, almost a sausage type spice flavor. So good. I was also very impressed by the size of the spring rolls, was not expecting them to be so big. Their peanut sauce is a-1. I'm not typically a fan because I don't looove peanuts like most people but somehow, although having the color and thinner texture of pb it had a very unique, unpeanutlike but delicious flavor. My last kudos is to their to-go packaging. I am always so scared when I order pho to go from anywhere and rightfully so, typically. This is one of our go-to restaurants in Merced. Though I'm not vegetarian, I absolutely love the vegan pho, which is chock full of vegetables and veggie patties. Everything tastes fresh, tasty broth, plenty of basil/sprouts. The beefy pho is good too and more traditional, but I've been stuck on the vegan for a while. The vermicelli noodle bowl (with pork) is also great if you're looking for a non-pho option. The service has always been on point. The bon bo hue has no flavor and the rib pho was ok. The pho was not salty enough. I usually never put fish sauce and here, I had to add it. We really enjoyed our food, and shared a few things like the hungry man's plate and pork boa buns. Note: there is nothing on the menu called bussin those are the boa buns which are delicious and I guess the new slang for bomb is bussin. Whatever, jokes on me for trying to order 2 Bussin haha luckily the gentleman taking my order knew what I meant and recommended the Pork boa buns which i highly recommend.
