Saturday, 12/17/2022 - Went to try Mr. Pho in Merced. Address is 3360 N State Hwy 59 Suite D, Merced, CA 95348. This restaurant is small and simple. Upon arrival: Pros 1) plenty of parking. 2) location was clean. 3) restaurant small but simple. 4) server was was nice. 5) water tasted great. No funky or metal taste. 6) We got the Beefy Pho Combination dish. Yummy! The rib was soft and fall off the bone. Broth was good. A little on the salty side. But good. 7) tea tasted good. 8) waitress checked on us once to see if we were ok and needed anything else. 9) I saw two workers cleaning tables. Nice! Cons 1) they ran out of tripe. But let us choose another meat selection in place of it. Conclusion I like this restaurant. It was good. Try this place if you haven't. read more

I've been here 3x. It's pretty good. The pho is 5/10 for me. I like the hungry man plate. The first time I went they must have gave me too much meat because every time since I've got less and less. Probably one of the best pho I've tried in town. Service was good even tho we came closer to closing time. Very clean inside. The bao bun is very good the dough tastes so soft and fresh. Only thing is the spring roll itself was a little lacking but the peanut sauce is very good. read more

The food and service is excellent. The Beef Combo Pho was delicious, their broth is fire! This Pho beat out quite a few other spots we have tried. The shrimp and lobster garlic noodles were also delicious, reminds me of Sopa Seca (top ramen noodles with butter and seasoning, no broth) plus the lobster and shrimp. Honestly, i loved the food, but there's a guy who works there who was very rude. (wears glasses and desperately needs a haircut) We were trying to decide between this restaurant and another and decided on the other instead. A worker from mr pho walked towards us saying that the door is unlocked and to walk in. We were pressured by his words and decided to leave due to his attitude and how packed it was. After leaving he came out and asked why we didnt come in, mocking us for being "too broke" to eat there. Rude. How disappointing and disrespectful. Third time here and it really hit the spot. I got the beefy pho bowl this time and the broth this time was so delicious!!! Full of flavor and that golden broth that you look for in a pho bowl. The beef rib - so tender and the meat gently fell off the bone. I don't know how but they got the tripe full of flavor as well (garlic and scallions) You know the broth is good when you don't need to add anything!!!!! We went back to give this place a second chance and they definitely improved . Food: 4/5 Their Pho broth had definitely improved which made their pho very good. We had the Bao appetizer with chicken and it was pretty good. The carrots were a bit big for the dish but overall tasted great. From what we can find in Merced and from what I have tried, this is the best for Pho . The broth is a bit tame and not an explosion of flavors (which I tend to enjoy). This Pho tasted so much like cinnamon, it was super sweet as well. I could not even counter the sweetness with chili oil. I was not happy with the cost and quality. Also, when I called I was trying to order egg rolls with it and the lady suggested no because she said the Pho should just be enough. That was just wild to me... I read a review that said something to the effect of the broth not being able to stand on its own which I'd like to strongly contest. Because I read this, I made the concerted effort to try it on its own before I dump my typical 5lbs of chili oil in. I was actually so impressed! Very flavorful, almost a sausage type spice flavor. So good. I was also very impressed by the size of the spring rolls, was not expecting them to be so big. Their peanut sauce is a-1. I'm not typically a fan because I don't looove peanuts like most people but somehow, although having the color and thinner texture of pb it had a very unique, unpeanutlike but delicious flavor. My last kudos is to their to-go packaging. I am always so scared when I order pho to go from anywhere and rightfully so, typically. The bon bo hue has no flavor and the rib pho was ok. The pho was not salty enough. I usually never put fish sauce and here, I had to add it. The server didn't being out our pho veggies and had to ask twice. They didn't have chili oil until I ask...and they brought a small amount. There's no peanut or jalapeños in vinegar like other Vietnamese restaurants I had before. The meat in the bowls were good (I'll give points for this :) The portions were small for $17... This is one of our go-to restaurants in Merced. Though I'm not vegetarian, I absolutely love the vegan pho, which is chock full of vegetables and veggie patties. Everything tastes fresh, tasty broth, plenty of basil/sprouts. The beefy pho is good too and more traditional, but I've been stuck on the vegan for a while. The vermicelli noodle bowl (with pork) is also great if you're looking for a non-pho option. The service has always been on point. Food: I ordered the spring roll and the beefy pho. To be honest, the spring roll was more tasty than the pho. The pho was plain, only thing I liked about it was the beef that slid off the bone. That was good. Other than that it was pretty basic to me. I didnt even finish my meal. :/ I think if it was more flavorful and came out a little more hot. Yes, the bowl was brought out warm not hot. Service: It was just okay. Nothing to rave about. The server came by and ask, "Is there anything else you need while I am here". I know that she mean well but that comment made me feel like she wasn't going to come back to check in on me. Ambiance: Before this became a pho place it was a subway. You can feel the subway ambiance was still alive and well. They had the sandwich station at the counter which threw me off. Were they still going to assemble my pho at the station. They played Vietnamese music in the background which was a nice touch in my opinion. Cost: The cost is competitive with other pho places. Not cheap but not expensive.
