Been here a few times and the sandwiches have been OK. But today was definitely the last time my husband and I come here. My husband ordered the pastrami warm sandwich and instead of a warm sandwich he got a crouton. The bread was completely burnt. You're going to tell me that the person making the sandwich didn't notice this? Yet they wrapped it up and sold it. My husband got home, looked at it and tried to eat half of it. The other half just could not be eaten. How does a business attempt to run a good business when the product is terrible? Totally unacceptable. This is by far my favorite sandwich shop in the area. Order in person or online and the results are the same- yummy sandwiches! I love the Goomba as well as the Italian. Their pickles are always sour which is just the way I love them. Hot tip- extra garlic sauce. I also really like that they have Funky Fusion chips which are my fav. I appreciate the 15 minute pick up parking spots because the Village can get busy. Our sandwiches were never delivered and according to DoorDash, they were given the wrong address. When I contacted Mr. Pickles, the manager told me that he was not responsible and I needed to call DoorDash or I should contact his corporate office (which he gave me the wrong information). This place has tanked lately. I used to love their sandwiches but today's lunch was disgusting and truly inedible. My Mr Pickle Sammie was tiny amount of chicken it was so overcooked it was more like jerky. I asked for no mayo or cheese and what I got was barely anything else. No tomato, mustard, garlic sauce, or onion, the skinniest slice of avocado, and the tiniest single piece of bacon. I can't believe they served this to someone. My husband's Ruben looked good but the generous portion of pastrami was lined with a thick slice of tendon that could not be chewed. Small things like the chips being the wrong kind or my kids PB&J only having a dollop of peanut butter I could have overlooked, but this whole order was soooooo disappointing. Came here for lunch today. It's located at a plaza where parking is such a headache because it shares with so many other restaurants. This restaurant has a few tables inside for dine in. I appreciate how big it is in comparison to other locations. Stood in line for a while waiting for someone to take my order. The staff moved slow and spent a lot of time talking to each other or standing around. Wouldn't be so bad except for the fact that the line was getting longer behind me. Also, I don't know if it's just me but it's weird that all the staff just had their hair loose (many of them with long hair - both gender) while preparing . Seems like a high chance of hair just falling on the food or ingredients. I got The Ranch with the works on Dutch crunch bread. It was delicious as always and one of my favorite sandwich. In my last review I said I'd be back. This time I placed my order online, then to give them enough time, stopped by the bank and did another errand. Came back and it wasn't ready, so went to a dessert shop and came back and still not quite ready so grabbed a starbucks. Then it was ready. The young man was really apologetic. I don't mind, as it looked like it was only him and he was a bit swamped. Grabbed my sandwich and I felt it was a bit heavy. Mind you the sandwiches are big in it's self, but when I got home I noticed the young man had given me an extra half and a cookie, probably for my trouble. It was clean, but too dark for me. I got my sandwich to go. When i got home it was still delicious. People working inside were nice. They have added a few dishes and they have an option called the works where they add a number of extra ingredients at no extra price! The menu is kind of big, but not overwhelming like other sandwich shops. I ended up getting a turkey sandwich on Dutch Crunch bread. Let me say this. I have had Mr. Pickle's about 3 times now at different locations and it will be the last. If you are really hungry for a sandwich and this is the only place ok fine BUT if possible go anywhere else. Service is always nice and no issues with how long it takes to get the sandwich. My issue is the sandwich flavor - bland no real flavor. I love Mr. Pickles. However, this location needs to send their employees through a Customer Service refresher course. When you enter there is no clear indication of where the line should begin, so you almost always hear the condescending announcement of where the direction of the line should begin from one of the employees. After the initial "welcome in" greeting is shouted as you walk in, you hear crickets until they're ready to make your sandwich. I literally stood there for 4 minutes (waaaay too long) before being asked what kind of sandwich I wanted. I asked for a half sandwich with a fresh roll and was asked to repeat my order twice throughout it being made. It was weird. And then she got an attitude and started talking mess under her mask to her coworker about me asking for my roll from the ones that were just taken out of the over. The sandwich was delicious although it wasn't as cold as I would have liked it. Mr. Pickles is the best because the ingredients always taste fresh and cold like it came fresh out of the fridge. Today it didn't. My cheddar sliced didn't and neither did my salami. I ordered a dry salami and cheddar (half) on a sweet roll w/ avocado. My husband ordered a turkey and cheddar (whole), same roll. It came up to about $16 and some change. I'm glad I brought cash because the credit card machine was out of service which something they should have said before I ordered just in case I didn't have any, but there's that customer service again. Honestly Im really disappointed in the food we received last night. We ordered 2 sandwiches online. We ordered around 6:40pm for pick up at 7:45pm, and when we got there at 7:30pm it looked like it had been sitting there quite a while already. Most of the time you order for a later pick up is so its fresh when you get it without having to wait in line. For my sandwich we asked for no mustard and when we got home and opened the wrap it was COVERED in mustard. We live about 15 minutes away so it was not even worth driving back for. VERY DISAPPOINTED! This is the first time coming to this Mr. Pickles location. I usually go to the one in Union City but this time I decided to go to the one in Castro Valley. I ordered the "Truly Vegan" and added Provolone cheese and honey mustard instead of regular mustard. I also requested the pickles on the side. They still put the pickles ON THE SANDWICH and also gave me pickles on the side AND A DROP of honey mustard. When I went back to the counter to request for a side of honey mustard, I was ignored by 4 young adults who worked behind the counter. It was so bad that the woman in front of me asked me if I was standing there to order.. I told her "NO, just standing here for a SIDE OF SOMETHING THAT SHOULD'VE been on my sandwich." She was also being ignored as well. THE WORST PART: there were two strands of hair in the sand which and maybe even more. (I was half way through the sand which when I noticed). Although the sandwich was good people work here don't seem to have any training how the dining area should be kept. Even there was no training it is a common sense to keep the dining area clean. Tables were not cleaned after customer's use and the floor was sticky everywhere, very unpleasant to walk over. It seemed not mopped for a long long time. Soils from outside and dust everywhere. I would not consider this place as an appropriate place to dine in. Even if it is strictly a take out only place it should be better than this. Judging by this I doubt how the kitchen is maintained. Firstly, the Dutch crunch is too hard to eat; it wasn't crunchy, it's like a rock, too tough to eat. I tried a few bites, but still didn't taste the cream cheese; it might be too little cream cheese. Secondly, the pastrami was in a stacked form, too dry, and had no taste. I couldn't even find or feel the beacon was there, because it was too thin to see. Thirdly, there were just a few thin slices of avocado; I picked up all the Works stuff to find them. Because the Dutch crunch was too hard to eat, I couldn't bite the bread with the ingredients together, so I just ate all the ingredients, even though they were not good. However, it completely defied the definition of a sandwich. I don't want to rate it, but the app won't let me complete the review without rating, so I rate it one star. read more
