Solid place that is almost an industrial-sized bakery (I think they also supply businesses) and has…read morea fairly large store of baked goods and large deli counter. They also serve soups and sandwiches too, so you can pick up a meal here. There's nothing too hip or exceptional, but it delivers. They do offer a few deserts, but I don't believe I saw more elaborate items such as cakes. The deli counter seemed to have recognizable, middle-of-the-road brands such as Brandt and Pillars. I didn't pay attention to the pricing, but I just caught another review afterwards that said they sell cheaper than grocery stores. If that's the case, it may be worth coming here for that then. I picked up a marble rye, hot dog buns and cheese sticks, as well as a date square. All were perfectly fine, but nothing that jumped out at me - apart from the date square. If my review was on that alone, I would give it 5 stars. I don't care if people bug me and call me an old man, I love date squares and theirs is loaded with dates - easily twice as much as most others. For that reason, along with being close to work, I can see myself making regular stops here.

I wasn't looking for anything specific but I remembered a Caribbean food place I was at a long while back saying they only carry Tin Nel's patties. As I was heading to a client, I saw the sign! :D Literally!!! LOL!!! Made a note to go there for lunch. I actually didn't make it there for lunch - ugh.. oh well. Clients first. I did finally get there mid/late afternoon. I didn't expect much to be left. The least I can get is hopefully some patties to try. Walking in, there really isn't much to talk about. The hot table seem to not have been used at all - maybe lunch wasn't hopping during these Covid times. I asked what they had, to the gal who poked her head out the door leading to the kitchen (I assume). She asked what I wanted, a bit dry and not really all that happy to see me. I asked for a couple of patties and a small jerk chicken meal. She disappeared and reappeared shortly after. She arrived with plastic bag all tied up and ready to usher me on my way. Paid for the food, and away I went. I kind of felt hurried out because maybe I'm Asian... yeah... pandemic fears! I'm sure being a Canadian Korean who hasn't travelled to Asia since I was a teenager - who by the way has a great command of the English language and excellent enunciation (even through a mask) could count for a bit of courtesy... AND... maybe not! I kept my manners. Used, please, thank you, and goodbye ... to the young gal. I don't quite remember any pleasantries in return. Anyway.. this is a food review right!?! RIGHT! OK... first of all. The flakiness of the patty was pretty good. The filling was quite tasty - I just wish there was more than a thin paste of it. Skimping on the filling isn't going to win any awards but then again, I don't know if that is the norm. The jerk chicken was OK overall - nothing to to rave about but still something to write about. I expect some heat when having Caribbean foods. Maybe they took one look at me and made it mild or it's their standard seasoning. They could have at least asked me - I do speak the language... Keep in mind, there are so many Asians in Jamaica... We do make our way around the world. Teehee... Nonetheless... I really wanted to like the place. I'm a huge fan of Island Foods. Will I try this place again? Perhaps I will give them another go on the patties - but for the food, not a total hard pass but pass indeed. I guess my search for the best patties continues. It's filled with fresh pastries baked in house, lots of local goodies/ brands and a small selection of fresh produce. I came in the winter so could also attribute to the small selection of produce that day. You can even find local meats in their large fridge/ freezer section. I came to buy some local honey which I found at a reasonable price. Everyone that came into the store seemed like they were regulars around the area. I'd come back for more stuff in the future if I'm in the area. Love supporting local and love having local products in my grocery hauls.
