Verified Customer Total Work time : 30 minutes I scheduled the appointment and paid the online fee for them to come. Beware this 90$ up front cost does NOT get applied to any work done. I had a clogged pipe that was backing up into the laundry sink. Two work men came to the door with an electric snake. One of the workmen did the work, opened the cap and used the electric snake and pipe cleared and no other work was required. The other work man had our credit card on file and had my husband sign on the phone and emailed a bill for 716$ in addition to 90$. I contacted the manager to get clarification on the bill. I cannot understand how they can charge over 800$ for 30 minutes of work without any materials needed and straight labor fees. I was told that these fee's also help pay for advertising and other costs. I DO NOT recommend this company. I needed my sink unclogged and they came after work which was very convenient . I had Keith as my technician and he was very up front with me and explained the issue I was having with pipes. Was not too happy about having to pay the $90 up front. Called Mr Rooter for a slow draining bathtub drain. Tech was there for 2 minutes- told us it would cost $672 to snake tub! I called Mr. rooter this morning because we developed a clog in our kitchen sink in Smithtown last night. After spending $90.00 in advance as a service charge, when the technician arrived he seemed clueless. He stood staring at the sink, went down the basement to look at our pipes, and then informed us the initial cost would be $850.00 to start possibly going up to $1500.00. We asked about just snaking the sink and he told us it would still be $850.00. Totally crazy. We said we'd think about it and told him to leave. I can agree 100 percent with the people on this site. I called them for service because the bleeder valve broke off of my radiator and they told me the charge to come out was $90 and they would quote me the cost. I was quoted $620 to replace the air valve on 1 radiator. I went with it because I needed it asap as I was about to leave for deployment and my family wouldn't have water when I was gone. I looked up the cost of this job normally and got quotes from $100-350 at best and this included bleeding the radiators. When it was all said and done I paid $710 for a job that was supposed to be no more than $350. Usually the service charge you pay up front is deducted from the cost of the job and it wasn't. Also was told that the warranty was for 1 yr and I get the invoice and it says 90 days. NEVER AGAIN... this was a desperation move. And I supposedly got a MILITARY DISCOUNT. Couple of years ago I had a slab leak fixed. It cost me over $3,000 to complete the job and it was suppose to have been done correctly. Today I have another slab leak and had to take up my whole floor and jack hammer through my kitchen floor again. I find out the job was not done correctly and the original work is what is failing. Called for a sewer water leak when toilet flushed. They came, NO MASKS, said it was a paper clog & fixed it & we paid them. WELL! 2 weeks later I realized I never checked the toilet to clean it. I cleaned it, flushed, the valve was still off. I turned it on, flushed again & BAM! Sewer water floods out of same exact place! And we already had everything sanitized!! I had to wait a little more than a week to call, my mother who owns the house was in hospital. When I call, Mike the service mngr was argumentative about petty things that don't matter, insisting the valve for the toilet WAS ON.... Really? He wasn't there & it doesn't actually matter because my plumbing problem we paid for was never fixed. The fact that they came again and repaired it again pretty much backs that up. THEN CHARGED MY MOM AGAIN FOR THE SAME JOB NOT DONE THE FIRST TIME! Mike thinks we are easy marks & repeatedly tells me I don't get how it works & tried selling me on the story that we called for a paper clog & the 2nd job was a pipe leak.....SERIOUSLY? Does ANYONE believe I actually called and said " I have a paper clog in my pipes causing sewer water to flood my floor"?? EXACTLY! I called & said I have sewer water on my floor, leaking from the pipe by the toilet when I flush! When I asked the guy why it came from there, he said "it takes the path of least resistance ". Ok, but I didn't understand how it's coming out without a hole or broken pipe to escape from, Obviously neither did he because he couldn't have checked the pipe. In fact he couldn't have test flushed because the valve was off. Who test flushes & turns the valve off before leaving? Now I'm dealing with Mike who first offered us back $25! TWENTY FIVE DOLLARS!! It was such a joke! But in interest of being done with this nightmare. I said to give us half of the $200 which is MORE THAN FAIR. Mike said that's not fair to HIM! I declined his insulting offer. He says he needs to get back to me in 3 days, $25 is all he's authorized to offer! I called back when I didn't get a call. This time he was defensive, talked down to me, was angry, but offered me $50. Now $50 is all he's authorized to offer! I told Mike that we aren't happy about letting them keep $100 and I'm losing patience. He also started questioning things as if he needed 3 days to think of things to say, like how it could take me 2 weeks before flushing , yup, we forgot to check & forgot how bad or dishonest people can be, & right after realizing, my mother had an accident & was in hospital. I still called under a month! What plumber would charge again for the sane job 24 days later?? Or try to say "it's 2 separate jobs! The 1st was a paper clog, the 2nd was a pipe leak!" NO, it was a leak & you weren't thorough enough to check that it was done right with a simple flush. ONE JOB, & we are stuck with SAME PROBLEM AFTER PAYING FOR REPAIR! Today he offers me $75. I asked him just how bad he needs that $25 when I'm inclined to contest the entire charge, he can pay his guy to sit in court. I say that because I asked him how much he's out in parts for the pipe ( I genuinely was trying to be fair) must have been $0 because he got so mad & proceeded to talk down to me angry, told me I have no clue how it works ( I know business & customer service pretty well. Mike seems to dislike strong women despite 1 being older & 1 disabled. Not the easy mark they thought). He said " They had to drive back there"!! He actually said that when I inquired about cost for parts...because AGAIN they didn't give us a breakdown of the charges! So Mike wants another 3 to 4 days to call back over $25!!!! He doesn't have the temperament or skills for customer service. I was being nicer than most would be! Of he got that frustrated & unprofessional with me, I can't imagine the real angry irrational people that are always a part of customer service, I'd say Especially in their case reading these stories. I was open minded when I called originally. It sounded wrong, but I said "explain this to me. Make me understand. I'm not saying you do or don't deserve the second charge but I need to understand because we already paid for this to be fixed" he just got more & more unprofessional when I called him out on his absurd excuses. 2 different jobs because they didn't complete it in the first place?? OK.. If you buy a burger & pay for it, get home and there's half a burger in the bag, you go back, they make you another half and charge you again??? You say but I paid for the burger already! & they say ... no, it's 2 separate jobs! We had to get out the stuff and pay someone to cook another half a burger! This is what we are dealing with. Posting just after completion of a job. First to say it was emergency job that was being done. Had a break in hot water line. it was in concrete. Technician was friendly enough. The problem I have with this job has been from the start to the finish. First off the technician decided to pull tongue and groove wood flooring up without taking off molding and taking the pieces out one by one. Nope. went to the middle of the floor and pulled it up destroying to tongue and groove. I will chalk that up to inexperience or laziness you make the call. The floor will never go back the way that it was installed. Technician advised me to glue it together. Because that's the job done right...... Also refused to put it back together. That's a Nono. If you damage someone's floor you should fix it. And the floor is still damaged. After his work was done the floor was not swept they were big pieces of concrete wedged underneath where the flooring should be an overall poor job on the back end. Continuing on there was a decision made to reroute lines from the boiler throughout the house. There were things that were moved never put back into place, there's damage to once again the wood floor and to the baseboard heaters. There is also unfinished work. There is a tub that had splintered pieces of wood, paint chips, and a sopping wet bathmat (no idea how that happened and was never made aware) that was simply thrown into the shower and left there. As I spoke to what seem to be the senior technician he told me everything's ready to go and they cleaned up in there. I asked them if they vacuumed he laughed and said no which I accepted but said they swept up very well. Upon entry they were pieces of wood, sheet rock dust everywhere, somebody stepped on my couch with dirty shoes. the only room that they seem to have swept up a little bit but not completely clean was the kitchen area where the majority of the work was done. The rest of the areas that they went into we're not. And if you look at the picture of the fly paper you will see how many flies actually got into my home during the work in progress. Disgusting. Close the door behind you. Have some class and pride. I don't know this company's polices, how they do their thing but being a veteran in the service industry, worked in the rich guys house to the old lady's home, once YOURE DONE with the job, especially when they're tearing down sheet rock and cutting wood and what not they make sure that they at least vacuum thoroughly sweep up and make sure the floors are completely clean. Also to re-walk the areas that you worked in and make sure that nothing is broken and all work is complete. AND AND!!!! See if there would be AAAAAANYTHING that might piss someone off. Well, Mr Rooter has done a subpar job to an elderly lady's HOME and leave as if this is ok. Leave it for the next guy. That's what you did. I'll leave you all with this question, If a contractor came into your house and did work and left it a mess and damaged your home, How would you react? I challenge the HR department to respond directly. Cause I'll say this. If it was your house, you'd care. YOU WOULD CARE. Pictures tell the story. read more

I am very dissatisfied with the whole experience. Beginning with the plumber arguing with us when we asked him to wear a mask. He made excuse after excuse that he was vaccinated and had previously had the disease (which was in no way a positive argument). There are variants that even affect vaccinated people, and he clearly doesn't wear a mask. I don't know how many unvaccinated and potentially infected people he encounters every day. The bottom line is, if the customer requires you to wear a mask, there is no valid excuse not to. He claimed to not even have a mask. So then he broke two disposable masks we gave him and finally had to give him a cloth mask that was a gift from my wife's cousin. One of the tasks I wanted him to do was open the cover to a pump in a basement bathroom. He quoted the outrageous sum of $700 just to take off the pump's cover, and something like $1400 to replace the pump. That's more than we paid to install that whole bathroom. Finally we ended up getting charged the jawdropping price of $350+tax to snake a single drain. Pure highway robbery. He is the epitome of why plumbers have such a bad reputation. So I figured how much off could they be. The first day they said they were coming & called back & said it would have to be tomorrow which was fine but I was out of town that day & had to have someone there to let them in. I was told they would be there around 4 didn't show up until at least 6. Then totally ripped me off, definitely feel taken advantage of. Really nice to do to people in this day & age. Guy looks at the job (from the basement pipes) - quotes me $1200 to snake and repair. He tells me that he would need additional help to repair. I asked him, "Would you like to see bathroom tub to SEE how it is draining?" He fills tub - tells me it's not draining at all. I had to remind him that the drain was closed. SERIOUSLY! When I first contacted Mr. Rooter plumbing in 2017 I had an excellent experience with them, so this past summer of 2019 I needed them once again. In keeping with the original service, I have to say I could not have been more pleased. They were professional, timely, very fairly priced and as such they reduced a lot of stress related to my septic tank! They did a huge job that required replacing pipes and pulling roots out. I had a bathtub drain issue on a recent weekend and with Grad and Engagement parties looming I was between a rock and a hard place without the family shower. I called these guys and luckily they were there within 4-5 hours. Tech said he could snake it for $350 (?!?!?!) and have the problem probably recur or replace the 30 inch length of pipe for $550.00 (!!!!!!). I was stuck and told him to do the bigger job. Tech was in and out in under an hour. I went to review the job. Good job, but realistically the job was waaaaaaay overpriced for what it was but hey, what was I going to do? Like I said, I was stuck. I do feel like my emergency was taken advantage of though. Would I use these guys again? One 'technician' arrived, spent about an hour only to report he had to call in 'the big truck' to clear the line. Later in the day 2 others arrived, they were here for 2 1/2 hrs; they performed a "hydro-scrub". I see in other reviews where someone here complained they were charged $700 for that service-well they charged me over $1300 for the same thing! And, they sent me an estimate for another $6k in needed repairs. I had someone here the next day, in 10 minutes - found a clog, cleared it, and all issues resolved. Granted, there is an issue with one pipe that needs to be addressed, but it will be done at a later date and will not cost $6k to replace. I suspect the first guy was 'the set up guy' and the other 2 were there to get me to agree to the huge estimate, but I did not comply. Beware. read more

So I have no hot water and the hot water heater needs to be repaired. I call Mr Rooter. 2 people come out to my home. I had to pay a dispatch fee for them to come out and evaluate things. They didn't evaluate anything. They said that the water heat is 11 years old and needs to be reolaced. The pilot light did not lite and when it did it would go out after a few days. They were at my home for 15 minutes. For 10 of them all they did was talk about getting a new water heater for $1,500.00. They also talked about it costing $900 to repair mine and that would not last very long. Talk about being pressure! They didn't even bend down and look at anything.
