I had a really disappointing experience with Clearway Plumbing and Heating and felt completely taken advantage of. I reached out to Jim about replacing a cracked 5-year-old resin tub and sent multiple photos, details, and even confirmed with the manufacturer that the drain didn't need replacing. I was quoted $1,500 unless something unexpected came up. When Jim and his assistant arrived, they immediately said they couldn't lift the tub due to back issues and it's too heavy. I ended up calling my landscaper, who brought guys over to handle all the heavy lifting--removing the old tub and bringing in the new one. While waiting (for two hours), they sat in my driveway on the phone, smoking and asking me questions about the original installation that any professional should know or assess themselves. It felt very unprofessional. Once the tub was in place (thanks to the guys I hired), Jim essentially just connected the drain with a twist and had his assistant apply silicone--then charged me the full $1,500. I also had to prep the area myself and even clean the tub at the end because he didn't want to "mess it up." They also admitted they'd never worked with this type of tub before, which is something I absolutely should have been told upfront. In the end, I paid full price to Clearway, plus the additional cost for the people who actually did most of the work. I felt uncomfortable, pressured, and honestly ripped off. For many years, I wanted to switch from a wood-burning fireplace to gas. I started with The Fireplace Factory in Bellmore. I worked with Tom who showed me my choices and explained the differences. I chose what I wanted and gave a deposit. Then came the hard part. Making the switch to gas. I asked for a plumber and they recommended Clearway Plumbing and Heating. The best choice! Jimmy, the owner, came by to give me a price, and I made an appointment. Paul and Joe showed up when they said they would, and spent almost 5 hours making the change. They were outside by the chimney. They were down in the crawlspace. They were out on the front lawn, tapping into the gas line. They were drilling through the concrete in the fireplace. I can't ever remember having workmen work as hard as they. Without complaining. Chris from the Fireplace Factory came by today and finished the job. Jim was one of my quotes for piping my house for conversion from oil to natural gas. My remodeling home contractor had strongly recommended Jim. I am delighted I chose Jim for the job. I have a new furnace and was not getting hot water. (Installed by Marran Oil) It would take 10-15 minutes of water running in my shower to get hot water. Marran wanted $3100 for a hot water heater without giving me all the particulars about the equipment. If I was going to spend that much money I wanted to keep it in my community and called CLEARWAY PLUMBING AND HEATING in Blue Point. I had used Clearway several times before for installing new toilets, faucets and adding a water spigot to my deck. So I called Jim at Clearway. HE SAVED ME THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS and didn't even charge me for a service call. He made an adjustment to the valve that controls the hot and cold water mix (sorry Jim I don't remember what it's called!). This was the second time we have used Clearway. My husband called on a Sunday and explained that water was leaking from the valve on our water heater and also somewhere on the bottom. Jim told my husband that a water heater only lasts between 8 and 12 years. Since ours was 15 years old, he stated that it cannot be repaired and needs to be replaced. He told us that a 50 gallon water heater ranges between $1200-1500. The next morning he requested pictures of our water heater and then made us aware that we have an indirect water system, which is actually better, but would cost more to replace. Now $2500-2900. My husband asked for him to call me before arriving so that I could meet him at the house. I was still unsettled about needing to replace the water heater that day. My neighbor stated that we could replace the valve and that would salvage the issue for now. The valve is a $16 part at Home Depot. I texted Jim myself and asked if that was something that could be done, since the water was leaking from there. He never responded to me. Instead he showed up at our house and never called so I could meet him. My 16 year old son let him to see the water heater. After being made aware of this, I left work to meet him. He was already on his way back after purchasing the new water heater. When I asked if he even turned the water on to see where the leak was coming from- Jim replied- NO! He stated that my husband made him aware that we wanted to replace the water heater. I made Jim aware that my husband is not a plumber and that is why we called one in!!! I was standing next to my husband when he spoke to Jim. All that was stated was that we had a leak. Jim totally took advantage of the fact that we were not at home at the time. He went based on the age of the system and that was it. He clearly was unhappy that I told him not to replace the water heater. In the end he agreed to change the valve. He did recommend also changing out the expansion tank. However, my neighbor told me that unless it is filled with water, there was no need to change it at this time. Once, I told Jim to just change the valve and leave it at that, he agreed, but I can tell that he was not happy. He stated- "clearly someone is in your ear." After charging me $418 to change out just the valve ($16 part), he gave me a lesson in plumbing. While I am aware that my water heater is on borrowed time based on its age (15yrs), I will not be calling Jim back to replace it. read more

Clearway Plumbing was refferred to me. by a friend, who used the company when it was managed by Jims', who is the the current owner/manager, Father. Jim gave me a price for three new toilet bowls and then a couple of days later told me that they went up and the price was significantly higher. I was surprised that he did not know this when we first spoke, since he is the plumber and deals with these matters, on a daily basis. I did have him and his worker replace the toilet bowls. I had to check all of the work for proficiency since I noticed that they did not caulk the bowls and the handles were not adjusted correctly. I paid $2300 for the three new toilet bowls and installation. I had to call him back 3 different times because the handles were not functioning correctly . Jim got agitated with me that this was occurring and I said to him that he was the one that installed them and he needed to fix them. He said he never heard of this happening and decided to have his worker come back and put on metal handles, instead of the plastic handles that were meant for these bowls. His worker came back alone and put on the the metal handles. When I checked the handles all 3 needed adjustement because they were not attached correctly. He adjusted them and one is still not properly aligned. The metal handles are not attached frimly and jingle when utilizing. His worker told me that that is the way the "old fashioned" handles work. Well needless to say I was not happy with his response, or the way Jim handled rectifying the situation. I had a slight leak in my hose and his worker told me he put in a new washer and I was food to go. After he left, I went into the garage and noticed quite a bit of water had leaked out of the hose. When I used the hose, it was leaking worse then before he put the washer in. I texted Jim and he then called me and was down right rude, in his manner. He said "You don't need a plumber for that, maybe it is a faulty hose." I explained to him that that was not the issue, the issue was that his workder never even checked the hose, after he replaced the washer, or he would have seen that the washer did not resolve the issue. I did not want to continue my conversation with Jim, since he ws being argumentative and rude, so I ended the conversation. Suffice it to say I would not recommend Clearway Plumbing or Jim. read more

This was my first time using Clearway, and I am happy I made the call. I had a drain line showing signs of corrosion. Called them at 1030am on a Saturday morning, the operator said I would get a call back from the on-call person "in a little while." What I did not expect was a call back within 2 minutes, and after explaining my situation Jim said he could be by within the hour. True to his word he was there to look it over and give me a price. He confirmed the corrosion and also did not like how the last person left the job...complete but rather haphazard. He gave me a fair price and said we could schedule something or he could get it done right now. I opted for the let do it now option, and within 10 minutes he had 3 guys here. They were all respectful of my property, did a nice CLEAN professional job, and all three guys were polite and kept to the job without wasting anyone's time. Our water heater went on a Friday night (of course). My husband called Jim Saturday morning and he sent someone to our home to check out the situation by the afternoon. We needed a piece that would have been a few hundred bucks to replace but they noticed our water heater was getting up there in age and would not be cost effective since the heater only had so much time left anyways. This was my first time using Clearway and Jim. I could not be more pleased. I found their pricing to be reasonable for 2 fairly simple jobs, a dripping bathroom faucet and a really bad leak under my kitchen sink that needed immediate attention since I ignored it for too long and finally this morning gave way to a whole load of water under my kitchen sink. I tend to put my plumbing issues off as long as possible because I find it so difficult to find an honest, fairly reasonable (although not cheap), prompt and courteous plumber. I can spend hours just calling several companies. Most don't even have the decency to call you back, others sound like used car salesmen who either give you outrageous estimates over the phone or tell you that you will be charged a service fee for just walking in the door whether you actually use them or not! Then, if you do use them they will waive the service charge BUT charge you an outrageous fee and then even more for every 1/2 hr. they work! And the ones that did seem reasonable could not make an appointment with me for at least 2 weeks!! Holy cow! When I got in touch with Clearway, I received a call back from Jim immediately. He did not high-pressure me at all. He told me he could swing by within the hour and take a look at the problems....no charge. Then, after seeing the problem he would give me an estimate and I could decide whether or not to use him. He swung by, took a look, gave me a reasonable price, was quiet, friendly, polite, did his work efficiently and quickly and we were done. I showed him a couple of things that I would need to have done in the future. He took a look, gave me a written estimate and told me to call him when I was ready. I need a toilet replaced and he even said that once I picked out the toilet he would even pick it up for me instead of me lugging it home if I chose to buy in person. Today, it does seem that if someone answers the phone, actually calls you back and comes to your home same day, you've taken care of half the battle. Jim also told me that they handle emergency situations as well. Many do not. So, so far I am very pleased and will be using Jim most definitely in the future, in the near future as a matter of fact. I feel a sense of relief knowing that maybe I have finally found "my" plumber instead of relying on all these overpriced companies that take advantage of your emergency and send out any tech that's available. First of all their website says that they will give you an estimate, They refused to and I had asked several times. The Plumber was com-pendent, but had to run to the supply house two separate times for a tools and parts. When he finally got the office on the phone, i was told that the cost so far was 385, then two hours later the price more than doubled. I would not trust this company to install a faucet, it would cost you more then remodeling a bathroom, and you would not find out the costs until they were walking out the door. The work was good, and I was told that the plumber normally had a helper, but they were not available How is this a way to be honorable in a business. NEVER again read more
