After seeing the funny commercials, I had to find a Mr Submarine. I haven't been to a Mr Submarine in ages. They have added so many new things. I ordered a 6" inch Gym Shoe combo. The Gym Shoe consist of gyro meat, corned beef and roast beef with tzatziki sauce. The guy from behind the counter told me total and asked "Cash or Credit?" I asked is there a surcharge for using my card, he stated yes. I do not remember seeing signage for the surcharge, so I paid cash. The dining area had "picnic" type tables. There is a couple of outdoor tables too. I received my meal and the first thing I noticed was the sandwich was larger than I thought. It was put together nicely and the first bite was tasty. All of the meats were about equal without one taking over. Plenty of lettuce and I wish they equally spread the onions on the sandwich. The fries were hot and crisp but nothing spectacular. The sandwich was a clear winner, but I have to customize it more. The one thing I loved is that they still had a pay phone in between the doors. read more

Had their subs before and most have been decent. This time I got the meatball sub. Tried to get it on garlic bread which apparently defies the laws of physics because they said it was not possible. Found it odd considering the menu has it as an option with no indications there are limitations. I then noticed a sign on the counter advertising "free garlic bread upgrade for any sandwich". Maybe they had meant that the free upgrade wasn't available on the meatball sub but they didn't offer any explanation. The pizza puff was good, although it could have used more time in the frier. The italian beef fries were okay and they were wrapped with plastic to prevent spilling during travel but then they put them into the bag vertically so all the beef juice poured out of the container into the wrap. The 7up mix was bad, tasted like sweet carbonated dish water. At least the dining area looked clean and the service was fairly quick. read more

I ordered an order of mozzarella sticks, fries, 2 small fountain drinks and a side of ranch. first, i paid $18.80 anywhere else its like $12ish. I tried to get lunch here in early Dec and the place looked so beat up I figured it wasn't a good idea to eat anything. And yes I knew what I was walking into and I still left without eating. When you go in you'll see some of their covid protection is just a big plastic sheet covering much of the big space between the staff and where you order. Unlike other places that have heavier duty barriers, if this was any thicker than cellophane I'd be amazed. The other big thing you notice when you walk in is a big a 5 foot or so tall picture of Lori Lightfoot with a Hitler mustache instructing you to stay 6 feet apart. That image somehow didn't ignite my hunger or interest in the menu. I wasn't sure if it was the staff's idea of a joke or a customer was at fault but it looked like it had been up there a while, so they're either fine with it or they don't sweep through the place to clean it that often. The 2 in the review instead of a 1 is because the food might actually be passable, I'm not sure since I left. If the place has that big of a problem with covid restrictions to keep their customers safe then why don't they stick to drive thru only? A ton of other places would probably kill for a drive thru and this place has one. Seems like a decent solution. read more

The bread was so hard to bite into the wait took so long and forgot to add the hot peppers in the Italian beef. They claim to have the #1 beef I should've just went to fast grill across the street. I brought home the beef subs for my partner and I and he got the combo but was also dealing with the bread issue. We couldn't even finish it. A huge part of the bread was rock hard I tried to bite into it, couldn't even break it apart and it crumbled in hard pieces when I peeled into the bread. It seems this place has really gone downhill. We used to get sandwiches from here often, but this time was exceptionally horrible. I'm not sure they could have made these 2 sandwiches any worse, even if we had ordered them "extra crappy!" These were completely awful. Not to mention, we asked for extra mayonnaise and there was absolutely ZERO mayonnaise, which was especially disappointing given the fact that the bread was so dry and stale. Yuck! I guess it's my fault for not choosing a more reliable option. Bob-O-rino's isn't bad, but they seem to be under different ownership and on the decline as well. Disgusting! It has been a while since I have had Mr. Submarine, but always loved it. Never again from this location! Philly cheese steak had little bits of steak, not even a quarter of a pound, it is dry and salty and then they put American cheese! Not provolone or mozarella which is standard. Some people like American I am sure, but it is not right and places that put on American give you options for those people that happen to like American (yuck!). The fries are shoe string and were like eating plastic and my sons meatball sandwich had almost no marinara. I had a 6 inch and my son had the King, both were pretty weightless, which is odd, they were traditionally heavy. Cheap with the ingredients and inferior...sigh. Nothing is the same anymore everywhere and they are over charging for less ingredients and inferior quality. The only thing that was okay was the potato salad which tastes like the Grandpa's you get from jewel, but I paid 3 bucks for a tiny cup of it. so two sandwiches (one reg one King) 1 fry and one potato salad set me back 30 bucks, plus delivery for a total of $40 and to get garbage! Yikes! Food is sub par. Everything is microwaved!. I ordered the philly steak. Thought that I was wise enough to ask ahead to make sure that it wasn't roast beef as many places use. They said no, it's the same style that Philadelphia uses. (Dont believe it) I found out that instead of grilling it fresh in front of me. The meat is pre grilled and microwaved for 5 min before serving. The meat is cut on top of a counter that other things are put on and cut into strips instead of chopped. See picture and they dont even separate the strips before putting it on the microwaved bread! Dont they know that microwaving bread makes it chewy. Stay away from this wannabe sub shop. This place is a "comfort good" go-to for when we're too lazy to cook and too cheap to eat anywhere else. I know they're a chain but they're franchised so each one is different. This review is for this location only. This location is very good. We have been going to this location for over 20 years. I assume the owners are the same because the food, prices, service and cleanliness are consistent. 5 stars for staff. Really nice people work here. They are friendly and patient, and put forth a concerted effort to make your sandwich exactly the way you like it. 5 stars for food preparation. I'm fussy (picture Sally ordering in "Harry meets Sally") and they always make it exactly the way I order it. 4 stars for food quality. They use an extruded loaf turkey meat, not whole breast turkey. It tastes fine but it is a lesser quality and therefore keeps costs down. The lettuce and onions are fresh and crisp. The tomatoes are typical hit house tomatoes. Sometimes I have gotten a slice of tomato that hasn't had the stem area cored so there's the hard gross part of stem insert there. It's a detail that isn't always attended to because it saves time, but it shows a lack of quality and attention to detail. Little things but annoying. 5 stars for price. When fancy sandwiches all over town are going for $10-$15 this is a screaming deal! Foot long sandwich for about $7 (depends what you get)! 5 stars for kitchen cleanliness. The kitchen looks very clean and you can see all from the counter. I've watched as several different people have made our sandwiches over the years and they wipe and clean after each sandwich. Stellar! 4.5 stars for dining room cleanliness. We don't eat there we always just pick up and eat elsewhere, but if you do it's a bit stark and not always perfectly clean. Since there's usually just one person working when we've been in there I'll excuse lack of attention to the dining room as getting food made and keeping the kitchen clean is WAAAY more important. 5 stars for parking. They have a lot and there are usually spaces. Only once there wasn't because it was a Summer Saturday and there's a nail place sharing the strip mall. I almost always get the full size turkey with "white" cheese (I'm allergic to yellow dye), extra mayo, extra lettuce, extra tomatoes, a few onions and no oil or vinegar. My husband almost always gets the Italian meats with no mayo, no tomato, a little bit of lettuce, onion, banana peppers and oil & vinegar. They have chips and pop but we don't usually buy that stuff. read more

The meats aren't the highest quality, but my corned beef sandwich tasted pretty darn good anyway. For $7 plus change, my wife and I were pretty full. The bread is like the wonder bread of sub rolls. meh. Without good bread, what is the point really? And the cheese? Pretty gross white stuff of ambiguous origin. The only veggies are shredded head lettuce, flavorless tomatoes and tons and tons of very thinly sliced onions. The onions might save these subs if they had anything else at all to work with, but alas, everything else is crap. It's so sad. i think these guys used to be open real late a lot of the time. And they close so much earlier now than from when I remember. But they have AWESOME subs. Fresh. Flavorful. Good quality ingredients. Really good bread. Even the fries are pretty good too. These subs are not "empty" the way Subway subs are. (you know.... like you're eating a whole lot of NOTHING). These subs are almost finger-lickin good. I usually get the turkey sub and or the seafood sub with a crabmeat salad. As scary as that sounds, it's really good! Really. Truly.
