5 stars for everything not sushi. I do not eat sushi therefore I cannot speak on that. Apps - gyoza, beef negima, teriyaki tofu app, yakitori, spicy tofu app are all amazing. The crispy spicy chicken app is really almost an entree portion of something similar to general chicken. Its fine but not something I personally would order again. Entree - Japchae with chicken, YakiSoba with chicken , spicy pork bulgogi, chicken teriyaki dinner and vegetable (tofu+veggies) teriyaki dinners are all bomb. I have yet to try a couple dishes that I know I'll like but its just so hard to make a decision. Dining in experience is good. Service is great and the atmosphere is fine. We are in sushi mood recently and happily found this place in the neighborhood. Mr Sushi is located at corner of Arlington town center on Mass ave. We were surprised that we never tried it before after being in the area for years. It is a small place with a few tables, but it is clean without any dummy odor. We ordered take out this time, sushi delux, sushi special and maki combo. The sushi rice is of high quality with good texture and flavor. The fish is fresh with beautiful color. The chef's choice nigiri offers good variety. And the dinner entree is reasonably priced too. I used to come here all the time when I lived in Arlington and I do NOT remember disliking the food. But here we are in 2018 and things have gone downhill. I came during the week so it was pretty empty. Service was terrible which was pretty interesting because NO ONE ELSE WAS THERE. The waitress misheard us on drink orders and seemed annoyed about it... Also, I ordered shrimp tempura and received a shrimp tempura maki roll? I was pretty frustrated by that point so we just ate it. Spicy Tuna- SPICY. SO SPICY. Good. Spicy Salmon- Fishy. Haven't had old fish in a LONG time. No one liked this (or wanted to eat it). Eel Avo- Good. Hamachi roll- Okay, way too much rice Shrimp tempura maki- Tasteless except the shrimp. I would never order this again (and I didn't mean to this time). The ratio of fish to rice is so off. I felt like I ate a huge bowl of rice after leaving Mr. Sushi. They should re name it Mr. Rice. First of all, I'm not a hater to this restaurant. I regularly buy food from Mr. Sushi and I appreciated their work under this pandemic. But recently, their number stops working and it is frustrating as customers who are outside standing and waiting, unable to contact the staffs about our arrival or to make any special request on food. I gave one star is reasonable. For any business owners, it is essential to have a valid reachable business number during their operation time. It is also understandable under certain condition, the phone number is not reachable. But it is important to inform the customers about the situation by simply sticking a note on the window or post any announcement online. Unfortunately, I have to gave one star review to Mr. Sushi because they failed to fix the phone issue again and with no explanation, allowing this happen for a long time. In addition, I had scheduled a specific pick-up time on Grubhub. But they failed to acknowledged it. Instead, they called me 30 minutes earlier than the schedule time. When I stopped by the restaurant to pick it up, I have to wait outside and knock the window pretty hard because again, their number is not reachable. I saw the staff was not picking up phone call from other customers. She was just standing there and looking at the monitor in front of her. Eventually, when she realized my knock on the window, she put my food at the door and did not say a word. She immediately turned around. Lastly, I know everyone is experiencing a hard time under pandemic but I hope Mr. Sushi notice the importante of having a valid phone number is the fundamental step to open a restaurant. Sushi here is great! It's ready promptly whenever I order it and the website doesn't make a mistake. However, the website often is glitchy. The popup asking whether you are ordering takeout or delivery does not consistently pop up. The website then defaults to 25-45 minutes in the future, which is unfortunate if you as the customer are expecting your food ASAP. Yesterday was a sad workday for me as I came in to pick up my food, but it was scheduled to be ready in 25 minutes. I had an appointment and was crunched for time so I had to ask for a refund and skip lunch. Never been to the Arlington branch of Mr. Sushi before - my previous experiences had always been in Coolidge Corner. The entrance faces the corner of Mass Ave. and Court Street (I think). The dining area isn't huge, but is decent sized. Single bathroom is located in the back by the kitchen. I paid $16.95 (plus tax/tip) for my combo eel teriyaki/pork katsu which was the same price as a friend's eel teriyaki entree, which I thought was a great deal till I saw that her option came with so much eel and a side of veggies even! My salad garnish looked sad in comparison, especially since both our choices arrived with miso soup and a salad. Dinner was tasty though and plenty to fill my tummy, and the eel was pleasantly deboned. Food arrived slowly for our party, but the service was fine. *** 12/2012 visit *** Chicken Katsu Donburi $12.95 was more than enough for my dinner after having had several sweet treats as an appetizer. The pickled cucumber and carrot wasn't to my taste, but there was plenty of tender chicken, egg, onions, and rice to satisfy me. Never mind the piece of Volcano roll I tasted after decapitating the drizzle of spicy red sauce reducing my volcano mountain to a mole hill. With a name like Mr. Sushi one would think we are referring to the master of sushi. The expert, the ace, the sushi genius. I think, at one point in time, this restaurant lived up to the name, but now....well. I visited this restaurant yesterday for the first time in a couple years and was a bit disappointed. I like the atmosphere of Mr. Sushi. It's a cozy, dimly lit restaurant, but tables are far enough apart to offer some privacy. I love the booths in the front window overlooking the street ideal for watching the world pass by. Parking is a little tough, as Mr. Sushi sits on a busy corner along Mass Ave and nearby street spaces are at a minimum. We were greeted promptly and seated right away. It was 3pm and off peak dining hours, so we had the place to ourselves. Our server was pleasant and efficient, but I felt a bit rushed. This may have just been due to the lack of other customers to attend to. I had a seaweed salad, which was decent, but really...can you actually go wrong with seaweed? The spicy tuna roll really has a kick to it. I didn't try any of the special maki selections, but my usual faves, Alaska and Philadelphia rolls were just okay. If you are in the area, it's worth a try. It's nice to have this place as a sushi option in town. I guess I just expect a little more from Mr. Sushi, but three shiny stars it is. read more

A great spot for sushi in downtown Arlington! Came here on a Monday night so it was very quiet and the service was quick. There is a special sushi menu and a standard roll menu. Overall a good assortment of tastes and prices. Our favorite was the Karate roll which had eel and avocado. We also got the Anna roll and Salmon Maki, which were great as well. The restaurant has a calm ambiance and the decor is classy. Would definitely make a nice place for a date! My one gripe is that the paper chart they use for writing down which sushi you want gets reused, so there end up being a lot of not well-erased pencil marks which could be confusing. But otherwise this will definitely become my go-to sushi place in Arlington! read more

We were in the area and decided to give Mr. Sushi a try. When I do sushi, I prefer to go to Japanese owned establishments, but since I also wanted kimchi jjigae, I was open to trying Mr. Sushi today. Overall, the whole meal exceeded my expectations. The sushi and maki definitely hit the spot, generous portions considering it's sushi, and just enough rice, not too much. For maki, we got spicy tuna, eel avocado, and spider rolls. For sushi, we got the yellowtail, salmon, shrimp, and flying fish roll nigiris. My husband especially liked how crunchy the soft shell crab was in the spider maki. One thing to note is that when I generally order a spicy tuna roll, it will be inside out with some cucumber. Here at Mr. Sushi, when you order a spicy tuna roll, they make it as a spicy tekka maki. Next time, I would ask for spicy tuna and cucumber maki. The other thing that bothered me was that the girl who packed my order placed my soy sauce on top of my kimchi jjigae. So, my soy sauce was warm, and I didn't end up using it. Luckily, I keep Japanese style soy sauce at home. If she's going to pack the sushi in a different bag from the hot items, then she should make sure to put the soy sauce in with the sushi. Again, the generous portion of miso soup was in a medium sized soup container and was tastier than other places. It satisfied my nine-year old daughter's bottomless need for the liquid! At first, when I took the top off the container of the kimchi jjigae and noticed the thick cut strips of pork, I was thinking it would be overcooked and tough. However, when I tried the stew, I found the meat tasty and wanted to go back for more! I feel it needs to be a bit spicier, so I would ask for that next time. The banchan (veggie sides) were excellent, especially the kimchi which was carefully wrapped in green lettuce so as to not affect the flavors of the other sides in the small plastic container. Filled with umami goodness, the house made kimchi was a highlight of the meal. The only thing was that there was very little of it, so I'd probably order an extra side next time. As you can see, I plan on returning and look forward to trying the other Korean dishes at Mr. Sushi! read more

Good food at reasonable prices. I don't think it's necessarily the best sushi in town, but other conveniences (like parking) make it worth it. Besides, you know you won't be waiting out in the cold for an hour to get seated and then rushed through your meal. I've only had their sushi, so I'm not sure how the other food is. The standards are all there, from nigiri and maki to tempura, but Mr. Sushi delivers those, plus some inventive maki combinations, in a quiet, simple atmosphere. In February 2010 I discovered amaebi at Mr. Sushi. Amaebi is a small, sweet shrimp served raw on nigiri, and only available for a limited time each winter. Unfortunately I missed the window this winter, so instead I tried a new maki roll that featured soft shell crab inside with a full eel outside. I'm blanking on the name (dragon roll, I think), but I would recommend to anyone with a sense of adventure (and lack of sticker shock - they're pricey) to try Mr. Sushi's special rolls. The menu at Mr. Sushi is moderately priced. Not cheap, but not exactly overpriced. I've had their tempura, sushi, sashimi, noodles, and katsu. I've enjoyed them all. That said, I've had trendy, fashionable sushi in Boston, New York, and Las Vegas. I've also had crappy suburban sushi in fits of desperation. Mr. Sushi settles right in the middle, offering approachable sushi for the novice and a go-to place for the sushi lover. Staff is very friendly, and the restaurant has always been clean. Once I have encountered a server who seemed terrified and didn't quite know what she was doing, but in general the staff is spot-on. The atmosphere is not romantic or trendy, but rather basic - a good meeting place for friends. Great afternoon, great ambiance, good food, awesome company. My friend is "the" Anna that Anna Maki is named after, and let me tell you, her namesake exceeded expectations. We shared a number of rolls, all of which were tasty. Topped with Seaweed salad, tempura and Edamame, we were stuffed. Interesting for me was that the spicy tuna roll didn't have the spicy sauce on top, but embedded within. Mister Sushi is good soosh. To be honest, sushi is sushi to me, pretty much, unless it is nonfresh or sloppily made. All the standard rolls n' stuff here. And bonus points for having escolar -a fish that makes you sick if you have too much (warning is on their menu). I eagerly ordered a healthy portion of this on-the-edge fish. MS is unpretentious -never extravagant in its presentation but well made and "simp." I have found the service to be above average, and the waitresses look "adorbs" buzzing about in their Japanese outfits. Really gives a nice vibe. The place is clean and simple. Food: I got beef japchae, gyoza, and shrimp tempura. The shrimp tempura came with 2 pieces each of shrimp, red pepper, green pepper, squash, and zucchini. The best part of this dish was the soy(?) sauce that cam with it. I think they make their own sauces (or know the best brand to buy) because the sauce was so much better than anywhere else I've tried. The only downside is that since I got delivery the tempura got a bit soggy from the condensation in the take out box. The gyoza were flavorful and perfectly cooked. The gyoza also came with its own special dipping sauce which was similar to soy sauce but with a tangy spice to it. The japchae was also excellent (especially since it's not as easy to find as other more common dishes). In the future I'd ask for no peppers in either the tempura or the japchae, but that's just my personal preference. (FYI the peppers i'm talking about were similar to bell peppers not spicy ones). I came to Mr Sushi on a Saturday night recently with a friend. We were seated right away and the service was fast. We both got two orders of sushi and shared a pot of hot sake. I enjoyed my sushi--it's comparable to most other places I go to and it tasted good and fresh (I got the spicy salmon and spicy tuna). Overall, I think Mr Sushi is a good place to get sushi from. I can't comment on the rest of the menu but I would be open to trying other things since I like the sushi. In the future, I would probably just order takeout since the restaurant is nice, but nothing special. read more

This place used to have some amazing food, other than really delicious and fresh sushi, about a 10-15 years ago. I think the owners changed, and when I tried a few times again in the last year, it was a mix of interesting experiences. Sushi - I did not have generic American sushi rolls but mostly nigiri and sashimi. Most were pretty fresh and quite tasty though on the salty side... except for the mackarel sashimi, which was way too fishy and salty. Rice dishes were ok.. Ramen was really bad..Don't order ramen... Udon was ok.. though it tasted like the instant ones you can buy at Hmart. My main pet-peeve was the inattentive service. Mr. Sushi used to have REALLY professional and pleasant service long ago, but not so much these days it seems. Sometimes they stare for a few seconds when you request something, and walk away - you think they heard you but nothing happens.. So you request again, then the original request gets fulfilled 10-15 minutes later even when not so busy, and you end up with double the amount of whatever you wanted. But they still leave everything on the table making the table full and walk away.. and ignore the request for half of the items to be taken away because now we have double the amount. I've encountered several "looks" when I requested simple things like "an extra bowl and small utensils" for my 4 year-old. I've also seen them blatantly ignore me when I wanted their attention for the check. Meh. I tipped them $1 the last time I was there a few weeks ago, because similar experiences all 3 times that I have been in the last year will not get me to return... not especially when they no longer have one of the best sushis ever in Boston. read more

Apparently Mr. Sushi has never heard of "the customer is always right." I ordered a chicken tempura dinner and 3 orders of sushi for take out and noticed that I had been given shrimp tempura when I got home. I don't eat shrimp so I immediately called back to get this rectified. I was accused of lying and when I convinced them that they had actually taken my order incorrectly, they said that they don't deliver on Sunday. Eventually they said they would bring my correct order, which took another HOUR. When the chicken tempura was delivered, she insisted on taking back the shrimp tempura so she could see it. Even then she was convinced I was trying to scam them out of an extra meal. They were never sorry for ruining my night and screwing up my dinner, which was soggy by the time I finally got it. We've been eating here rather regularly for last 7, 8 years, as my family member likes Nabeyaki Udon (Japanese noodle soup). Let's talk about this Nabeyaki Udon - a classic Japanese home cooking style dish. Boy, is it so wrong as Japanese food, yet it is pretty good dish made by Brazilian cook in the kitchen. (I asked them who makes it.) I do sample Sushi when someone else orders once in a while other than I got Chirashi sushi for my typical evaluation long ago, and it is darn average. Japanese sushi chef worked here when I visited while ago but I'm not sure that's the case anymore. However, Korean food is very good! Bibimbap, Chigaes are pretty good and that's usually what I get from Mr. Sushi. I wish they change the name to Mr. Korean and serve fine Korean food instead. read more

As I've mentioned in other reviews, I am very wary of seafood in general, including sushi and lots of Asian food, due to shellfish allergies that could land me in the emergency room if I choose the wrong restaurant (thanks, stupid ghetto sushi place in Florida). My last few E.R. jaunts have made me more paranoid than ever before, so when my boyfriend suggested going out for sushi last Friday, I hesitated. But then I thought, "You know what? You love sushi. You haven't had sushi in a YEAR. And you've been to Mr. Sushi before and know that it's a nice, clean, well-kept restaurant. So go eat some goddamn raw fish, you pussy." And oh, the raw fish I ate. Mr. Sushi was actually where boyfriend and I went on one of our very first dates (almost three years ago!) and I liked the food then. It was just as good as I remembered. Most of the rolls I got involved tuna, salmon, yellowtail, or eel, all of which I'd comfortably recommend. Boyfriend also ordered udon, which came in a HUGE bowl. Another friend who doesn't enjoy sushi ordered the bi bim bap, which is served in a spectacular hot stone pot. And the hot sake we ordered for the table was perfectly respectable. So Mr. Sushi gets four stars for making me feel comfortable, safe, nostalgic, happy, and well-fed by the end of my dining experience. Not bad for some sushi joint in Arlington! I ordered in person at Mr. Sushi because their online functionality was incredibly difficult to use (forces you to create an account then confirm password etc. in email but it does not carry back - as opposed to being able to order as a guest or without creating an account). While a poor customer experience and a poor business model, I was further disappointed when I entered the establishment and was treated like it was an inconvenience for them. They stared blankly at me when I said hello and explained I'd like to order as the online service didn't work. They said nothing, asked no questions to help, then instead "yeah what do you want". Uncomfortable, I quietly said what I was hoping for then was told to wait outside. After all of this, they couldn't be bothered to bring it out when it was ready and instead dropped it on the table without even looking my way. Waited a while to try this place and was excited to find a local sushi joint, but will not be back based on this customer service. This place offers creatively different sushi concoctions, and judging from the small sample I have tasted, they are quite good! I had a multiple course meal here, consisting of seaweed salad, miso soup, shrimp tempura, some sort of combo sushi roll I can't even remember what it was (but it was very good) and then finished it off with a dish called "Bi Bim Bab" (which I later found out is Korean.)
