I already loved the Brookline location. We were 15 minutes away from the Winchester location, so took the drive. The layout of the restaurant is similar to the Brookline location, with the private booths on the right and special booths on the left, main seating area in the middle, and the bar seating towards the back. Only difference is the Brookline location has those cool matcha whisk structures, while this location has cool honeycomb structures. I would've loved to experience sitting in one of those. I always like to eat spicy so of course I got the Kyushu Spicy Tonkatsu Ramen. As always, broth is so flavorful with the perfect amount of spice. The ramen texture is my favorite, good amount of softness and waviness. The boiled egg is marinated just right, not too salty or sweet. The chashu pork is tender. I wanted to try their version of the spicy cucumbers. It's REALLY spicy. But also very good. The flavor reminds me of the Chinese chili oil sweet potato noodles, very spicy, kind of salty, and a strong taste of vinegar. I love snacking on it. The takoyaki is the best of course, perfectly soft and tender, with thin bonito shavings and great sauce. The fries are essentially seasoned the same way. Salted fries with the takoyaki sauces and bonito. The combo works very well together. Thai tea was good and service was great. If I'm ever in the area again, I'll stop by for another bowl. read more

Yum!! We went back to Kyuramen, very hungry and eager to try a variety of menu items. We thought about trying one of the combo options, but I ended up ordering the curry ramen, and upgrading it for $7 to include a Thai tea and bao bun. The bun was delicious, with tender pork and a flavorful sauce and I loved having the Thai tea to sip on. We also ordered the cucumber salad to share and it was nice and fresh and spicy. My curry ramen was delicious and hearty. My partner ordered the #2 and I really liked the pork in his bowl, I preferred it over the tonkatsu in mine. We ended our meal with matcha tiramisu and during the current promotion, we won an order of popcorn chicken to redeem on our next visit. The restaurant is cozy and they make use of the small space with their honeycomb wall. We will probably go back to Winchester since we can't wait for Burlington to open! Firstly the dining room is cute with honeycomb booths up the side wall, small private booths and comfortable dining room tables and booths. The food is delicious and serving sizes are ample. I could barely finish my ramen-but had to so I could see if I won something. (And I did win a free lemonade or ice tea on next visit!). If you like added spice they offer three different toppings. Try all three, but I must warn that the sauerkraut pepper is very spicy! Everyone was welcoming and friendly. Parking is limited as this location is in downtown area. We ordered a few appetizers before our ramen and everything came out super quick. The gyoza and takoyaki were our table's favorites. I don't know what happened with this place, hope it's an off night, but possibly a change in ownership or staff. Came here on a Wednesday night, and although it's filled, it's not crazy busy. It felt off the second we walked in. The hostess was on the phone and took people that were on the wait list after us to their table first. After we sat down and ordered, we waited 45 minutes for our ramen, and only an appetizer came in the meantime. We noticed that the other people that sat after us were already eating. We had also mentioned to the waitress we wanted the non spicy miso ramen 3 times when ordering (my husband has acid reflux) and it still came spicy. So they had to bring us another one which appeared 2 minutes later. So why did we wait 45 minutes for the first one? We had to wait longer for the extra noodles we ordered for the kids which they did not bring with the order. We also never got the other appetizer we ordered so had to ask for that, and when it came, the octopus was undercooked. The food also just didn't taste as good. The broth was not as tasty, warm (not hot), and the noodles were mushy. They were also very stingy with the toppings. We finished and sat and waited for our desserts that we had placed and this is already an hour and half later (45 minutes of waiting). We had somewhere to be and despite pressing the call button 2 times, no one came. It was starting to get frustrating after all this waiting (usually we are accommodating and understanding, but it just seemed no one knew what they were doing), so we had to get the waitress from the front and desserts to go, which we probably will not eat. I have learned not to order the combo anymore because we end up paying for it anyway. This was for our anniversary, so definitely left with a bad taste in our mouth. The waitress did mention she was a waitress in training and she did a good job with filling our waters a couple times. Been here twice already and this is my new favorite ramen spot! I love this location because they have the cool honey comb seating. They are also decked out for halloween right now so it was really cool to dine in! Their server also dressed up and I thought it was really fun :) Their service is always top notch! The booths have buttons for you to call your server or to pay your bill so you can get in and out quickly. Their ramen is rich and their noodles are a lot better than other ramen places. Their noodles are taste more fresh and firm, I like the texture. However, we noticed that a lot of their appetizers were kind of oily. Since seeing some social media videos, we've been wanting to stop for some time. We were doing something in the area so I checked the wait time on the website and it said it was about 60 minutes.When we were done with our activity, I checked again and the option to add ourselves to the waitlist was not available on the website. So I called the restaurant and they added me to the list. I received a text message telling me my place in line and approximate wait time. Our wait was actually ended up being shorter than expected so I'm glad that we went straight there. After walking-in, I realized that although it is a small place, that they have a smooth operation and plenty of attentive servers so you get your meal soon after ordering and your bill before you are done eating. I understand that they want to serve as many customers as possible and that is fine. We were in and out in less than an hour. We were seated at the bar and very close to the end where servers were coming in an out of the kitchen. That made for a lot of movement in close proximity to us. I would have preferred to seat at a table or a booth but the option was not presented and we had to take the next available space and that was it. We started with the takoyaki octopus ball that were steaming hot and delicious. One minute later our ramen bowls were placed in front of us. I went with the chicken ramen and found the broth to be flavorful and a good size portion. My partner got a lucky bowl that had free dessert written on the bottom. A great addition to downtown Winchester offering a large menu of non-sushi Japanese cuisine. They got omurice! I've always wanted to try it, I've never seen it in a menu in Boston. I got their ramen but next time I am ordering the omurice! I couldn't decide between the miso or tonkotsu but luckily they had the yingyang ramen bowl. They couldn't make the tonkotsu spicy, but that's ok because the miso was going to be spicy. Overall the bowl was good but I really enjoyed the tonkotsu and will order just that next time. I liked it so much there wasn't any broth left. There was a zucchini skewer which I thought was odd addition and got in my way as I dug in. The server was very polite and attentive. Came on a Friday night and the place was packed, waited an hour because we didn't have reservations, having seen all the rave reviews and being too lazy to drive out somewhere else. Thing is, the actual food was just ok. Not bad, not great, just bland and clearly aimed at the local palates. I've had much worse ramen, but I've also had better ramen...here the portion size was actually not bad (some ramen places charge you upwards of $20 for a lousy appetizer-size amount) but the noodles were not much different from dried packaged ramen---not chewy but just soft in that generic pre-made way, and the broth was clearly made from some powder/spice packet with a one-note flavor, nothing like a real bone broth. We tried two appetizers, the tempura shrimp which was more breading than shrimp (quality Japanese tempura goes very very light on the breading) and the octopus balls which were tasty but buried under a bunch of silly sauce and other decorative flourishes. Once seated, service was very good however---this was their strongest point, really. Menu was brought quickly, food was delivered quickly, bill was paid at the table with a portable credit card scanner, wham bam thank you ma'am and sayonara, lol. It's easy to see why this national chain is so successful: in addition to the impeccable service, the interior is beautiful, the menu is very smartly laid out, and the marketing is world-class: on every table there is a placard with a QR code you can use to review them on Google or Yelp, and rewards you with a free Thai iced tea or some small dessert on the house! In a nutshell, I would come back here if with some friends or family who've never had real Japanese food and need sort of a Japanese version of PF Chang, I guess. Came back to try the #1 tonkatsu and omurice and generally thought the flavors were good. The omurice is quite large and you can only order it as a combo with a lemonade or thai iced tea. We opted to get it with the pork katsu with curry sauce and the thai iced tea. The katsu was hot and tasty and the egg flopped nicely into a blanket over the rice. Thai iced tea was alright, a bit watered down. I liked the tonkatsu with white garlic more than the yuzu chicken ramen, but there's still some depth that's missing from the flavor. Unfortunately the noodles were mushy again and the broth itself was warm, not hot - the bowl likely had bit sitting for awhile. We also tried the sparkling yuzu sake, which I would skip, it's basically 5% alcoholic yuzu soda for $15 and has a lot of sugar in it. In terms of ambiance we got to sit in the upstairs honeycomb this time and that was cool. There's a call button by the booth, with a general call button and specific buttons for ordering and getting the check. Service was accurate and attentive. So if you're a bigger person, you should make a reservation for a booth. Other than that the food was tasty. I had the Tonkatsu Omurice that thing was immaculate. Wow!!! I can't say enough good things about this place. I love the ambiance and the honeycomb booths. Stepping into the restaurant it feels like I'm being transported to Japan. We got the katsuobushi pork ramen which was absolutely delicious. The bonito flakes gives it a nice fishy smoky flavor. The noodles have a perfect texture and bite. The pork belly is so soft and melt in your mouth. The omurice is also a hit with the egg enveloping the fried rice inside. I was expecting a bit more flavor in the rice itself but with the egg and curry sauce (you can choose between that and a demi glace) it more than makes up for that. The pork tonkatsu is also perfectly cooked. Lastly we got the pan fried gyoza dumplings which came in like a skirt bottom. We stumbled upon this place while in the area and it had a very warm and welcoming feeling with a unique honeycomb design for where tables were situated. We came on a Wed evening and ended up waiting about 30 mins for a table so this place is busy! Since we did not see an option to reserve a table online we decided to walk in, but given the long wait I'd call ahead next time. Even so, the staff was very friendly and was able to seat us as soon as something opened up. Given how new this place is it seems like they are still working out some kinks but that's to be expected of any new place. Unfortunately they were out of the chicken ramen and other chicken dishes by the time we got seated, but we were still able to have delicious ramen. We ordered the Tokyo Tonkotsu Shouyu and the Kyushu Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen. Both were very good and the spicy one had more of a kick to it than expected. We've tried a lot of their dishes: Popcorn Chicken Tonkatsu Ramen (Spicy and Non) Sapporo Miso Ramen Katsuobushi Pork Ramen Super Bowl Ramen Pork Tonkatsu Omurice Diced Braised Pork Don Rice Bao Bun Kushiyaki The good: When seated, server is attentive and the food is usually fast. Our go to appetizer is the Popcorn chicken, perfectly seasoned with tender meat inside. Both my toddlers gobble it up, so anytime they eat anything with protein, I am a happy camper. We've tried a few of their Kushiyaki and again, toddler approved. Their ramen portions are appropriate and they are generous with their toppings. The noodles are chewy and not mushy, the eggs are cooked right, soft-boiled jammy, creamy texture. Their pork chashu is not too lean with an appropriate mixture of fattiness. I've been to places where the chashu is lean and tough and that is just unacceptable, haha. Their Omurice was yummy, the tonkatsu was perfectly fried and did not feel greasy and the egg was soooo fluffy! The could be better: The last two times I've been there, I ordered the Tonkatsu Ramen and the Sapporo Miso Ramen and I noticed that both the broth seems a bit watered down. When we went there when they first open, I was so happy that their broth was flavorful. As a foodie that grew up in the Bay/LA, I have high standards for Ramen and I was so happy there was a Ramen joint that finally did it right even though it was a chain. But, I left underwhelmed and a bit disappointed. I've recommended this place to a few people, but I am not sure I can do that going forward anymore. I am hoping I caught them on a bad day/night but I am hoping that the quality does not deteriorate now that they've got the business. Their Diced Braised Pork Don Rice has a mayo/creamy sauce. It is way too overpowering and too much. They should consider either reducing it by half or switching it up. The pork is nice and tender but the sauce ruins it. Lastly, and this just might be me because I didn't know what to expect, but I was not a fan of the their Katsuobushi ramen. The bonito flavor was overwhelming, as much as I love a bit of it on other dishes, in the broth it was a bit too fishy for me. I imagine its more of a preference than a knock on the dish itself, but would just put it out there if you are considering trying that ramen.
