    Tomkatsu ramen (good)
    Madeleine B.

We got ramen delivered and it was good. I got the Tonkatsu and while the broth wasn't my favorite, all the elements within were great, especially the egg which had a perfectly jammy yolk, I also like that they delivered the broth separate. We also got the unagi onigiri which was good if a bit fishy. The mochi, which was 2 pieces for ~$6 was pretty $$ but it was very yummy. Overall enjoyed this meal.

Love this place for take out sushi! Their sushi salmon is fresh and I really like the size of that spicy salmon roll! The salmon tataki is also really refreshing. Not a fan of the sauce it came with though.

Tried the spicy miso on a cold day and it sated my ramen cravings. The chashu was tasty, had the right thickness and fat ratio, and I liked the bits of char on the edge. Broth and noodles were decent, it wasnt very spicy, but it was a touch too salty for me. Space was clean, casual and welcoming, and there was a decent beer list. We had some Sapporos to wash the meal down. Service was fast and attentive. The sushi menu looked good, would return to try other things on the menu.

We ordered takeout and were very happy overall. Vegetable Gyoza, Cucumber Maki and Shumai for starters. Main dishes were Spicy Miso Ramen and Stir Fried Ramen. For dessert, the Green tea Mochi. Everything was fresh and flavorful, decent size portions. Fast turnaround from order to pick up. I would definitely go back again.

The food was okay with reasonable prices. There was only 1 waitress working there. She was so unfriendly and unprofessional. I could not bear with her attitude towards us the whole time. She took away our dishes without even asking whether we finished or not. Her behavior ruined my appetite. I won't dine in again if I see her, but I'd give it another shot for take-out.

Enjoyed my experience overall! The layout of the restaurant is a bit different than what you'd expect, not super spacious so I don't know how well they'd be able to accommodate larger party sizes. The workers were friendly but I think our server could have been a bit more attentive as it was hard to get her attention sometimes. I liked the food a lot and will probably go again to try other items! I was happy with the quality of the fish and loved the chicken karaage. Prices were reasonable.

My friends and I passed by this new place in Medford Square and decided to give it a try. We went there on Monday around 6pm and it was fairly empty. The place seems small but there were ample seats. We ordered different makis and they were good; some of them better than the other. The spicy snow crab maki my friend ordered didn't seem like snow crab; in fact it was the imitation crab. We didn't order Yakitori because it seems a bit overpriced than the regular price range. A decent place in Medford Square but I wouldn't drive to Medford just for the place again.

While not a true izakaya (they rarely are), Matsuba has a diverse menu of yakitori, sushi, appetizers, ramens, etc. If you live in Medford, there's no reason why this shouldn't be a regular lunch or weekday dinner spot. We did karaage, hiyayakko tofu, shiitake soup, and split the mini omakase. All was great - particularly delighted with the presentation, quality and value of the omakase. Service was solid and dishes came out at a reasonable time. The main dining area is awkwardly shaped and feels a little empty, so not really a place to for a nice date night. Just casual.

    Nabeyaki Udon (with chicken)
    Raha M.

My friend and I came here for dinner, heavily craving some ramen. I ordered the spicy miso ramen and she ordered the nabeyaki udon with chicken. Overall, we both enjoyed our ramen and our ramen cravings were satisfied. However, the noodles in my ramen weren't the best noodles I've had, and my friend's ramen lacked a bit of flavor. The eggs were adorable and tasty. I would love to come back here and try the sushi, as the sushi seems to be the real deal.

The layout of the restaurant is similar to the Brookline location, with the private booths on the right and special booths on the left, main seating area in the middle, and the bar seating towards the back. Only difference is the Brookline location has those cool matcha whisk structures, while this location has cool honeycomb structures. I would've loved to experience sitting in one of those. I always like to eat spicy so of course I got the Kyushu Spicy Tonkatsu Ramen. As always, broth is so flavorful with the perfect amount of spice. The ramen texture is my favorite, good amount of softness and waviness. The boiled egg is marinated just right, not too salty or sweet. The chashu pork is tender. I wanted to try their version of the spicy cucumbers. It's REALLY spicy. But also very good. The flavor reminds me of the Chinese chili oil sweet potato noodles, very spicy, kind of salty, and a strong taste of vinegar. I love snacking on it. The takoyaki is the best of course, perfectly soft and tender, with thin bonito shavings and great sauce. The fries are essentially seasoned the same way. Salted fries with the takoyaki sauces and bonito. The combo works very well together. Thai tea was good and service was great. If I'm ever in the area again, I'll stop by for another bowl.

The bun was delicious, with tender pork and a flavorful sauce and I loved having the Thai tea to sip on. We also ordered the cucumber salad to share and it was nice and fresh and spicy. My curry ramen was delicious and hearty. My partner ordered the #2 and I really liked the pork in his bowl, I preferred it over the tonkatsu in mine. We ended our meal with matcha tiramisu and during the current promotion, we won an order of popcorn chicken to redeem on our next visit. The restaurant is cozy and they make use of the small space with their honeycomb wall. There are lots of employees working, so service is quick and we were able to call our sever to the table with a button when we wanted to order and pay.

There were no details or pictures available so we asked the server what each ramen was like and he kindly answered. We ordered the spicy pitan and truffle shoyu ramen. Ramen came pretty quickly and look very appetizing. Once mixed in, the truffle taste is overpowered by the broth but I enjoyed it nonetheless. The chashu was also super tender and thinly sliced giving an almost melt in your mouth feel. The spicy pitan has a thicker curly noodle and thick broth. I preferred the truffle clear broth. Overall great experience and looking forward to come try other flavors!

Fish cakes were small and perfectly uniform - almost like they were frozen rather than prepared on site. Green curry had some spice but was mostly one note, there just wasn't much depth of flavor. Vegetables were all cut in huge hunks - both dishes had giant pieces of red bell peppers and onions. Fried rice was pretty bland and barely had any Chinese broccoli in it. Ambiance was bare bones - you order at the counter and they bring you your food and plastic side plates. Half the tables were stacked with boxes and bags of takeout orders. To top it off there's no bathroom, we were told to use the bathroom at another local business. If I'm gonna spend $60 somewhere, I expect to be able to wash my hands before eating and use the restroom. Perhaps there are some specialty dishes that we didn't try but this was my 2nd time ordering from here (I got take out once before) and both times the food was pretty bland. A truly underwhelming experience - especially when there are so many better restaurants in the area.
