This place is run by super nice family, has plenty of parking, and the food rocks! The sushi is delicious and beautifully prepared. Menu has all the staples you would find at most other Japanese/sushi restaurants in town and all served by an attentive, very friendly staff. When I read that they had a Tempura Rainbow Roll on the menu, I had to see what this place is all about. My roll and iced green tea were both delicious. While the roll was on the extra ricey side, the fillings and toppings were fresh and hearty. I was happily filled up enough with just one roll. I arrived at the restaurant at 11 when they opened, and the waitress was very kind. She went out of her way to brew my iced green tea which I appreciated. This is the 2nd Mr. Sushi location, and honestly this is that hidden gem in Asheville. You don't have to be big and fancy to have good sushi. My personal favorite is Sushi combo #6 and having my California roll subsisted for a spicy tuna roll, and for my 6 pieces of Nigiri I will order 3 escolar (fatty white tuna) & 3 Salmon. For the price of that combo you honestly can't beat it. All those other sushi places in town are stupid expensive, and the fish quality isn't worth what you pay at other restaurants. One thing to note is their chicken Katsu gravy recipe needs more work. Mr. Sushi is the best bang for your buck! So you're not having to go broke every time you are eating sushi. read more

They seemed to be having some sort of problem, for which they apologized but did not identify, which caused a delay of over 30 minutes for our food to be delivered. We ordered the combo #1 and the pork ramen. Both dishes were perfectly adequate, but uninspired. The eggs in the ramen were hard cooked, rather than soft. The pork was a bit dry; it probably would have been better to have chosen the pork belly in the ramen. I love tempura shrimp, which is why I ordered the combo #1. The the tempura roll was OK, but I really had little awareness of the shrimp in it and I had trouble biting through the nori. The nigiri was good--tuna, white tuna, yellow tail and eel. Search for a local sushi spot and one $ catches my eye. Mr. Sushi... didn't I visit that place a bit further south and wasn't it in a gas station? Yes and yes. This new location opened within the year and it's so lovely. The owner greeted me and asked if I had been there before. I mentioned the south location... "My dad runs that spot and my mom and I run this shop." Ah, nice bit of info. Everyone was awesome and the food was prepped quickly. Salmon Lovers roll, Dynamite roll and chicken Pad Thai. All of it was so good. $34 in total... the Pad Thai was awesome. Not sweet or runny (which I've had some place smake it that way, bleh) Found a great local place for my sushi fix. The fact that this place somehow has managed even a 3.5/5 rating on yelp has destroyed the last remnants of my faith in humanity. After waiting for 26 minutes (with four people working the kitchen counter, 2 of whom ate small bites and licked their fingers, only 3 dine-in guests and 0 other takeout orders) I was presented with a takeout container of "Hibachi Chicken." Which is to say chuncks of dry chicken breast, undercooked room temperature sliced vegetables, and "fried rice" that looked suspiciously like white rice with a pinch of black pepper and a few thin pieces of rubbery egg that they must have fried up yesterday. Per their menu, they season this $13.99 abomination with a "Chef's Special Hibachi Sauce." Sorry to spoil your trade secrets Mr. Sushi, but your special sauce is clearly a mixture of ground ginger, tepid water, and just a tiny splash of off-brand soy sauce. WIth such terrible service, prices, and food itself, this establishment must surely be some sort of mafia front or other money laundering scheme. Speaking of laundering...I'm also fairly confident that the miso soup contains actual soap. read more

Ok...where to start. We walk into the restaurant and were greeted by a friendly smiling face and what seemed to appear as a well kept and good quality business but things sure took a turn to say the least. Our food came out and everything seemed well until we inspected it. The Curry had barely any sauce whatsoever and was lacking the quality flavor that you look for when trying out a new restaurant. I personally, not being huge on cultural food, got the crunch fried chicken and to my surprise was no good. The chicken was incredibly dry and extremely chewy and the same with the carrots. The best thing on that plate was probably the barbecue sauce. We also tried the Ramen soup and the noodles tasted dry and chewy and the egg was basically hard boiled cut in half and just thrown in there. The menu was somehow unclear on what you could get as an entrée and was a major pain as I was looking forward to some soup.
