Tempura Rainbow Roll
Ally F.

When I read that they had a Tempura Rainbow Roll on the menu, I had to see what this place is all about. My roll and iced green tea were both delicious. While the roll was on the extra ricey side, the fillings and toppings were fresh and hearty. I was happily filled up enough with just one roll. I arrived at the restaurant at 11 when they opened, and the waitress was very kind. She went out of her way to brew my iced green tea which I appreciated. I would recommend giving this delicious sushi spot a chance if you're craving sushi in Asheville.

Shrimp hibachi, chicken hibachi, Las Vegas deep fried roll, a house salad, and a shrimp Kung Pao dish.

This is a great addition to the Asheville area. Everything is super yummy and fresh, including the soups not pictured (each hibachi dish comes with a soup or salad to start). The rolls are substantial in size and delicious every time (the Las Vegas deep fried roll is my fave)! Quick and easy with accessible prices and you don't sacrifice quality. The ambiance is very simple but everything is clean and tidy. Even if you order to-go, everything is served appropriately and packaged nicely.

No backsies

Nope. This was a vile wretched waste of money. It's cheap and you get what you pay for. Left half of it on the plate. The calamari salad was tough salt. The sushi was very suspect, greenish tint ends. There was two people who were servicing the place and they kept arguing about who knows, as they were speaking another language.

Raman Soup. Combo number one.

I had high hopes for this location of Mr. Susi, after all the raves I read about the So. Aville location. They seemed to be having some sort of problem, for which they apologized but did not identify, which caused a delay of over 30 minutes for our food to be delivered. We ordered the combo #1 and the pork ramen. Both dishes were perfectly adequate, but uninspired. The eggs in the ramen were hard cooked, rather than soft. The pork was a bit dry; it probably would have been better to have chosen the pork belly in the ramen. I love tempura shrimp, which is why I ordered the combo #1. The the tempura roll was OK, but I really had little awareness of the shrimp in it and I had trouble biting through the nori. The nigiri was good--tuna, white tuna, yellow tail and eel. The service was attentive and friendly. The prices were very reasonable. No alcohol license yet.

Shrimp Pad Thai

Shrimp Pad Thai is a must here. Finally found a place where they do a proper Pad Thai. Definitely coming back !

Tempura Rainbow Roll, Tasty Inari Roll (I already ate one lol) half tuna half imitation crab, and an Avocado Roll.

I haven't ordered from here many times & it is always fresh, delicious, and ready quickly. They always listen to my special requests and make it to order. Tender fish & avocado is always ripe. Recommend the inari & the tempura rainbow roll, and the combos!

The restaurant is just beautiful and seating capacity is great--inside and outside. If weather is nice and permitting outside, you get a beautiful view of the mountains. The interior has a full bar and modern-decor. The menu features lots of creative fusion dishes. I enjoyed the avocado salad more than I expected. Maybe it was the ginger lemon dressing. It's light and filling. The ramen bowls are rich and the miso vegetarian Ramen is much more bold, flavorful than I had expected. The carrots and roots were caramelized with a sweetened hint. The ramen bowls are generous in size. I'm bookmarking this place to come back!!! Jess wasn't there, so we got Xander and she also took excellent care of us! We explored some new tastes and sat on the patio, enjoying the view. Definitely a place we will return to, next time we are in Asheville.

Unbelievably, the spicy onions that came in the dish were so incredible that I actually ate them by themselves. What?! Me?! I hate onions. I always order without them when I can. But suddenly, here I am on a random Thursday slurping down these onions like a whale slurping krill. Who am I? Nothing fancy about this quaint little spot. No need for fancy. You're there for the food. Eat outside if the weather allows and listen to the sounds of the city. It's neat. Friendly, attentive service (thanks, Lauren). Water glasses didn't sit half empty, empty plates didn't overstay their welcome. Overall, I'd say go.

The staff were extremely helpful. I mentioned I was looking for vegetarian options, and the bar tender thoughtfully guided me through the various options on both the tapas and ramen menus. That made for a great experience. In terms of the food, I opted for the miso eggplant and the garlic butter broccoli. Both were excellent. The miso eggplant is served as well cooked Japanese eggplant with a light tempura treatment and somewhat sweet miso glaze. Not too heavy, but still delicious and nicely textured. The broccoli was perfectly cooked with lots of flavor. It made for a nice pairing. In terms of beer, they had a few different local beers on tap. I went for a local pale ale. Great. In any case, this place is highly recommended. I suspect their vegetarian ramen would probably be pretty good, but that was a little heavier than what I was looking for. It was nice to have a few other vegetable forward options available as a backup.

The entire bowl was phenomenal & I wished we had gone back there, the boiled egg they gave was also roasted and the bamboo shoots were fresh, the meat so tender and juicy, and the broth is very tasty!! I craving it while typing and a watery mouth! My partner and I shared a Miso Ramen and I wish we had something similar where I live!!! The decorations were cool and retro and the staff were nice, just an odd waitress but food is amazing!

They do a great job with tofu here! The Gan Shan Rice Bowl had less tofu but more additions like pickled vegetables and kimchi. The General Tso's bowl had amazing flavor, and you didn't really need more than the tofu and broccoli! We also tried one of the ginger drinks, which was good, and some sake. It is located in downtown Asheville so there is no immediate parking lot but there are some places nearby or street parking, The inside is very modern and there is seating both inside and outside. Our server was very friendly and service was very prompt! My family got the Lo Mein with Chicken, Chow Fun with Beef, Sautéed String Bean, Buddha Bean Curd Rolls, Crystal Shrimp Dumplings, and Spicy Chicken. I loved the Crystal Shrimp Dumplings! The wrapper was very tender and the shrimp filling was delicious. It tasted very authentic to me. I also loved the Sautéed String Bean as it had the right amount of garlicky sauce. The Lo Mein was made with thinner than usual noodles but still tasted good. I think the Chow Fun tasted a bit off. It kind of tasted a bit sweet and like drunken noodles at some points as opposed to the traditional smoky flavor that the dish has. The rice noodles that were used were also thin as opposed to the usual wider noodles. As for the Spicy Chicken, it tasted solid. I liked the slight crisp before biting into each piece and it was not really spicy. I definitely tasted the cumin (I am not a super big fan of), which is a popular flavor found in Szechuan cuisine. Overall, I think this is a nice spot for some Chinese food, especially being near the mountains which is more isolated. I would probably rate it a 3.75/5 stars if I could. I wish chicken feet were part of their dim sum menu (it is pretty small and there are no rolling carts in case anyone is wondering). I do think some flavors of the food I tasted seem to cater a bit more to the Western taste palate (my parents agree as well), but I enjoyed my time here.
