When I arrived at the restaurant, it was very slow, such as nobody else was in the restaurant. It was 3 o'clockl in the afternoon, which is to be expected. Ordered the miso soup, which was a nice size portion. There was plenty of tofu, and greens in the soup. Had a nice flavor, served warm to almost hot perfect where you could actually eat it and not burn your tongue. 7 out of 10 Beautiful, very lovely sushi, see photo. There was a nice size portion, the taste was delightful. The rice was cooked to perfection. 7 put of 10 Restaurant is very clean. Staff is friendly. 8 out of 10 I personally feel the best time to come into the restaurant is between three and five. It's not as busy. The food is still fresh and delicious. I rate the atmosphere 7. out of 10. The restaurant is right next to the gas station. Don't let that fool you this is a great little hole in the wall to visit, talk with the staff. Yes, there is a language barrier to a degree but they're so friendly and nice to take a minute how are you doing? I took the time to talk with the owner of the restaurant, I personally feel getting to know your local restaurant owners and staff is a good thing. It'll make your dining experience better. Zew, started creating sushi and cooking Japanese food back in 2001, Mr. Sushi opened in 2017, there was not very many sushi restaurants in the Asheville then. There's been many sushi restaurants come and go since then. There are Sushi/ Japanese/Hibachi restaurants in the area, however this one is truly a wonderful restaurant to visit it's quaint and down to earth-place, this is why I highly recommend this restaurant this is restaurant. with great personality. Zew is. Owners he is a delight to talk with, you see the passion in his face when he's talking about his food that he's created the original rolls that he makes. I recommend trying the Rangoon roll. There's no fish in it. It's there's imitation crab. It's a wonderful thing that he is doing here and he has truly traditional Japanese fried noodles. Which is very much a difference between the Chinese way of cooking the noodles. As much as I'd like to give five stars I cannot because I rarely give five stars. I love this place. I would return to this place and I hope that you will come to this place too and enjoy wonderful sushi and a little a hole in the wall from somebody that has compassion for the food he creates. read more

The restaurant is very conveniently located on Hendersonville. Our service was very kind. That's and service was rapid. Honestly, the food was not very good. We ate less than half of it. We brought the rest home and discarded it. While the food had a very attractive appearance, the taste was just not wonderful. We spent 50.00 and did not leave ravings about how good it was or how much we enjoyed it. I do not like to review negatively but sushi should be fresh, tasty and satisfying. This was our first time visiting. We chose to eat here purely off of Yelp reviews. We arrived as a party of 5 for a late lunch. When we entered, we were promptly greeted and told we could sit anywhere. There was only one other small party dining in. The decor is simple but clean. Our server was nice and patient as we asked questions. There was a board with specials listed behind the register. Our server took our drink orders and then promptly returned for our food orders. He was knowledgeable about how to accommodate my son's gluten allergy. The food arrived quickly. Everything was good. The tempura batter was not too heavy. The sushi portions were generous. They were very accommodating and made my sushi just the way I like it. The restaurant is small and the decor leans toward dated but the staff was friendly and the food fresh. This is not a fancy high end sushi place but it is a great take out or quick meal place to grab a bite. We always enjoy supporting local 'Mom n Pop' businesses, as opposed to corporate, and we were not disappointed. Ordered take out delivery and had high hopes as this place was well represented with good reviews. I ordered Katsu Chicken and I just...don't...think... this is what a great Katsu should be. Maybe I'm wrong. It was well breaded but lightly cooked, not even medium brown or golden for that matter. Looked a bit anemic. Sauce was on the side for to go. With rice. I dunno....kind of disappointed. Like maybe people who said it was great have bland taste buds? Also ordered Hibachi Steak with Shrimp. I wanted chicken and shrimp but strangely it wasn't on their online ordering. The order form did impressively ask how I wanted the steak cooked. Never saw that before with hibachi but I checked off Med Rare since I knew it had to travel 3 miles down the road and would continue to cook. Arrived well done, so I think the temperature preference question is a glitch or template they don't know how to turn off from their ordering site. Also ordered the Golden Dragon Roll. The mango was fresh and ripe, salmon was moist. Yummy. I also liked that the entrees came with choice of rice and side salad or edamame. Both sides were good. So my impression is...the place is called Mr. Sushi. Order sushi. Its what they do best. I think the rest is a good try, but not the main focus. For hibachi, Tokyo Express is better. So far this is the best sushi I've tried in Asheville. I'm on the hunt for better (and open to suggestions) and this is as good as it gets here. My favorite part, besides the tasty sushi, is the prices are affordable for such huge portion sizes. The largest sushi rolls! My only complaints are the menu is limited, after a handful of visits, it feels like we've tried everything. And some items are hit & miss. Didn't care much for the tempura shrimp or chicken spring roll wraps that were a special for the week. We love the Inari rolls, sweet and spicy, and a nice twist on a sushi roll. Also the crab Rangoon is good, the Carolina roll, spider roll, and scallops roll. I definitely prefer Mr. Sushi to Green Tea and Wasabi. The overall experience was good but not exceptional. Being combined with a gas station kind of sets the tone. Inside of the restaurant is modestly decorated. Portion sizes are good for the price especially on the lunch menu. The spicy roll was not spicy at all so that was a bit disappointing. Cleanliness grade was 96.5 at the time of our visit. Waitress was friendly and quick to respond for refills. Bathroom was of average cleanliness. A very unassuming place, I would have never thought to visit without Yelp. It is part of a gas station complex, line you would see a Subway or something. So glad we came. The sushi was fresh and tasty and so were the rolls. We had a salmon lover, a Tuna Lover and a Crab Rangoon roll, all of which were really good. we also had an order of their Chicken Yakisoba noodles. Those were some of the tastiest I have had. i don't like to leave bad reviews, restaurants have enough going on and don't necessarily need an internet note to tell them how to improve. that being said, i witnessed two major restaurant hygiene rules be broken. for starters, the expo is the cashier, which is not uncommon, but after paying my tab, she went back to the line without washing her hands, and proceeded to use her (very pretty) long nails to pinch jalapeño slices and place them on top of a sushi roll, gloveless. i then witnessed her handle squeeze bottles and other communal utensils before touching lemons to put them into the sushi box. at this point i stepped outside because i didn't want to see any more. when i went back in to get our order, i saw the sushi chef was chewing while working on a roll. i watched her sit down to eat some more of her dinner... she then got up, used her unwashed hands to pick rolls out of the fryer basket and cut the rolls before placing them in their box. we luckily could warm the food up at home to be safe, but when i witness things like that it makes me wonder what else is potentially unsafe, especially in a raw food environment. read more

I've had dinner at Mr. Sushi twice now and have been very pleased both times. Their menu is a little bit smaller than most sushi restaurants which I actually appreciate. They offer some appetizers such as seaweed salad and spring rolls but the sushi rolls are really the shining star at Mr. Sushi. The sushi rolls are very large and colorful and packed full of fresh ingredients. When I ate here alone, I ordered just one roll and it was plenty to fill me up. When I ate with my husband, we ordered two rolls and a combo (includes some sushi rolls and nigiri) and I didn't eat nearly my share and was plenty full. My husband demolished the rest and was also super satisfied. Every single thing we ate was awesome. We shared the Golden Dragon Roll, Crunchy Texas Roll and Combo #4 (Spicy tuna roll, Inari, Hosomaki roll and 4 piece Nigiri) and each was filling and full of great flavors. Went to the one on Hendersonville Rd. Kinda hard to find and in same building as a gas station. However They serve up some dynamite sushi-as good any I've ever had and better than most.
