The food is great, with lots of tasty and healthy choices, (NO MSG, Miso , tofu and soy sauce are organic ) The menu features dishes for the health conscious individual who may be vegan or gluten free lover and the prices were reasonable. I am surprised that they do not have microwave because of the radiation. I know many other restaurant use them to heat up the old rice and others . I'm Japanese grew up eating fresh fish so I can tell They have good authentic sushi and other Japanese dishes (Nabeyaki Udon is my favorite) I know 4 other Japanese restaurants in Asheville but they are all owned by Korean or Chinese . I guess Heiwa is only one place owned by Japanese chief . I feel very sad by people leave negative post ,,so I have checked some bad point they mentioned about Heiwa . 1.Wooden chopstick - they don't use any more 2.Mold in lady's bathroom -They said they killed with bleach and scraped out . now I see they put some tiles on the wall . Heiwa Shokudo is an excellent place to dine for those who have lived in Japan and long for Japanese food similar to what they had there. The Udon, soba, tonkatsu, tofu, sushi, and other dishes are prepared almost exactly like they are in Japan. We've been dining here for more than 10 years and were always satisfied except for the time the server didn't seem very interested in helping us get our leftovers "To Go". Heiwa Shokudo tries very hard to use natural and healthy ingredients in their dishes which I'm sure is not easy considering it's difficult to obtain Japanese ingredients in Asheville to begin with. In a world of crappy Chinese/vietmese/thai owned sushi restaurants, Heiwa Shokudo stands out as the real deal. I'm a fan. read more

I recently attended a friend's birthday celebration at Heiwa. I ordered a delicious ramen bowl with rice noodles, and overall, the food was great. However, our experience took a negative turn when our server, Michelle, confronted me outside after we paid. She mistakenly believed I was responsible for a 10% tip and accused me of being entitled while yelling that I shouldn't return. This was uncalled for, especially since it wasn't even my tip on the receipt. I found her behavior to be quite unprofessional and disappointing. read more

We visit this restaurant every time we are in Ashe ville - sometimes more than once per trip! The vegetable item with spicy garlic or mi so and the vegetable Goya are both very good. We have also tried a few of the Don noodle soups which are very tasty and come in a huge bowl. The service is casual and not rushed but always pleasant. read more
