My fiancé and I drove all the way from Atlanta to try out Chef Arsa new restaurant Murasaki Asheville. We knew it was going to be good but Chef Arsa who is part owner of this sushi restaurant has surely surprised us and has exceeded our expectations. We came here on a busy Saturday night and had a reservation to be seated at the sushi bar. Chef Arsa gave us the option to select from the menu items or do Omakase so we went with Omakase. Not sure if omakase option is available for all customers but we were surely glad we went with that. Chef Arsa carefully selected the menu items for us. He presented us with Red Snapper Crudo, Salmon Aburi, Smoked Toro, Tuna Tartare, Nigiri special, King of the sea roll, emperor roll(not in the menu), and ended the meal off with fried brownie and vanilla ice cream. Each plate was bursting with different flavors and texture. Our favorite was the Salmon Aburi! This wasn't just a dinner, it was such a wonderful/unforgettable dinning experience! There are plenty of parking in the plaza. The service here was amazing! Everyone was soo friendly! Our server Navlin was attentive, kind and helpful. Inside of the restaurant was really nice, calm, and zen. I am trying to find another reason to go to Asheville so I can stop by here for some great sushi! We can't wait to be back! Best sushi in Asheville. Hands down. They don't put "crunchies" in the spicy tuna as a cheap filler like everyone else does around here. Fresh tasting and has grilled hibachi items as well. Stay away from the lo-mein however, it is greasy, sweet and doughy. They need to eliminate the sugar and oil and use a flat thinner pan fried noodle to make this dish stand out. read more

The presentation is beautiful. The service is friendly and the place accommodates a lot of guests yet feels cozy. Week nights are less rushed. They open at 4:30 for dinner. Our waiter was Harry. We were a party of 8 and ran him to death! He said he had only been working there a week or so. Harry was fantastic! Patient, accommodating and fun. Food was incredible, fresh and filling. We had a 7 year old with extreme food allergies with us and they made him a great meal, he ate like a grown man. read more

Nice location in a newer shopping center by Lake Julian with plenty of parking. Nice decor. Good, friendly service. I was a little underwhelmed though by the food, but maybe my expectations were too high given the really interesting menu, or maybe sushi is really their top item [Note: the sushi bar looked busy and was well staffed]. The chicken karaage appetizer was good. The chicken itself was unremarkable, but the dipping sauce was excellent. We had chicken katsu two ways, as both the usual curry plate (with a generous portion of chicken served over white rice, with the curry sauce on the other half of the plate and with a good amount -- but not too much -- of carrots and potatoes mixed in) and as a ramen bowl. Both were quite good. We also had the nabeyaki udon, which is supposed to be one of their most popular ramen noodle bowls. It's in a soy broth versus the typical pork broth of ramens. I was worried it might be bland, but the menu stated it was served with a topping of chili oil and a sprinkle of togarashi chili. Surprisingly, it was indeed very bland as served. I asked for more chili oil and added it and while it was better, it was still not a very interesting dish (hence the rating of 4, or even 3 just based on this dish alone). The udon noodles were fine, but the vegetables in the broth and the tempura shrimp served on the side to dunk were both just so so. All in all it was nice, but with so many great restaurants in the AVL area, including several Asian ones these days, we probably won't make a big effort to go back here anytime soon. In all fairness, maybe they are better as a sushi bar. read more

SAVE YOUR MONEY AND TIME. This is not good. I've had grocery store sushi better than this (not lying). We went last night and ordered one of the special rolls (no price listed) and it was so gross we each ate once piece. There was twice the amount of rice that should be used which is a sign of inexperience, then the amount of actual fish in the roll was nearly undetectable. Flavor was awful then they charged us $30 for the roll! We also ordered dynamite shrimp for an app and I'd give that a solid B. Entrees were hibachi beef and shrimp and beef and chicken. The meat was again a solid B but the sauce was like syrup and the grease was off the charts. The service was fine and I'm not even going to give them a hard time because the furnace wasn't working; they couldn't help that. If you want real, fresh sushi....this is not your place. What an amazing restaurant! First, we were greeted at the door (this is a huge bonus for me). The restaurant was very clean and inviting. The menu is plentiful with a lot of different selections that will make everyone happy. The sushi is definitely the best I've had in WNC. The espresso martini is a must have but above all, the customer service exceeded our high expectations. I manage over 800 employees and customer service is my pet peeve. I ordered a lychee martini, clear soup, veggie gyoza, 2 orders of yellowtail sashimi and 4 salmon sushi. The lychee martini does not need a bleached cherry in it. But I drank it anyways. The gyoza was okay. They should be steamed and fried in my opinion, there only steamed. But I ate those. The salmon sushi was good. The yellowtail was bad. I ate 2 pieces thinking maybe the first was just off. Nope. I asked for the last two to be removed from my bill and the waitress said she had to ask the manager. The manager said no. You pay for each order, asked for the order that was bad and I didn't eat to be taken off. Then she asked if I wanted a box for it. Absolutely not. Lost a local customer who frequently eats sushi.
