Just had lunch with my wife and was not let down. My wife happened to win a gift certificate for this place on the radio so we decided to stop off on our way to a family event. The service was great, the lady who rang us out was super nice and helpful and made sure we got the most out of our gift certificate. We had some pastor tacos, added guac and enjoyed a fantastic lunch! I hope they get a ton of business because I want to eat here again in the future. I am beyond disappointed, disturbed and disgusted, to say the least. Cheese enchilada was dry and cheap. Shredded beef taco had a sliver of meet in it which tasted like what I assume dog food tastes like. No flavor to rice or beans. Horchata tasted like the fumes from the machine. I gave this place a chance after reading these other Yelp reviews. Won't be coming here agin. Especially after paying that much for crap food. No food complaints because we couldn't get any. We show up to order @ 7:40 PM and they're open till 8:00 PM. They then inform us they're closed 20 minutes early..... Two Fish Combo ($7.29) - I had the battered fish; it was just average. Really need to put the spicy sauce on it to make it more flavourful. I'm new to the neighborhood and discovered Mr. Taco in my quest to learn my surroundings. I popped in the see what they had to offer, everything looked so good I had a hard time making a choice. After several minutes of careful consideration, I decided on 2 hard tacos with chicken, 2 soft tacos with grilled steak and a side of nachos. Everything was as good as I had hoped it would be. The salsa tasted freshly made and the chips and food were top notch. The lady behind the counter was very pleasant and welcoming. Went to Mr Taco because I had a short span between appointments, and V Village was most convenient for me. I remembered Mr Taco, as my kids used to come here when they were students at Cabrillo. I thought, nice, I'll grab some tasty Mexican and be on my way. Has to be better than Burger King, right? Well . . . PROS: Friendly service! The young gentlemen behind the counter was pleasant, offered a smile, and checked in on me while I was eating to make sure all was well. Service was prompt, and food was served nice and hot. Fried taco shells were crisp and light. Taco meat had good flavor CONS: Rice was bland. They offered "hot sauce" instead of salsa. The meat in the tacos, while tasty, was paltry in volume. I think taco meat/chicken should outweigh the other fillings (i.e., lettuce, cheese, etc.)--not the case at Mr Taco. Lastly, I have no problem that the place is older and worn looking, but that is no excuse for a lack of cleanliness. Note to the owners: give the area around the windows a good scrub-down once a week, and find a way to eradicate the flies! I don't see myself going back here. RUDE cashier & CONSTANT mistakes with food orders without apology or corrections, just hostility. I used to love going here -- I'm embarrassed to admit I'd even go weekly for their carnitas torta & chicken fajita burrito for awhile but it's safe to say I'm not supporting this local restaurant anymore & I'll be taking my money elsewhere. They have messed up my order several times in a row -- Adding carne asada instead of chicken, putting RAW vegetables in my burrito multiple times when they're supposed to be grilled & cooked all the way through, & only putting in TWO small pieces of chicken in my burrito & no other meat (I'm guessing they got a new cook). I've been so patient because I used to love their food but the last time, they had actually accused my boyfriend of lying about the lack of meat when he went back to ask them to fix it & right now I called to place an order for pick up, making sure to ask for the vegetables to be cooked all the way through. The cashier (who is responsible for answering calls) said that they are always cooked all the way through as they are grilled. I told her that there's actually been several times where there was raw vegetables in my burrito. She immediately says in a very rude tone "oh, I think I know who this is... you're the girl who said there was no vegetables in her food." I chuckled in hopes that she was just teasing & corrected her by saying there was actually a lack of chicken. She then told me I need to specifically ask for extra chicken & it comes at a charge. I explained again that there was only TWO pieces that last time but she kept responding very rudely. I just gave up & hung up the phone. I don't recommend giving this place your business. It's bizarre behavior to deny your mistakes & become hostile & defensive, especially in the customer service industry. You're supposed to apologize & correct your mistake. Go to Tacos El Tizon instead, their meat is phenomenal. This place is guaranteed to mess up your order then give you unnecessary attitude if you point it out. read more

Really good food. Sunday morning, finished going to church and wanted something to eat for lunch. I'm not from the area so I turned to Yelp to find a place to eat! Found this place from my Mexican food cravings. The service is great. They're really nice people! They make your food on order so you know it's freshly made. I feel like a VIP. Tried the grilled steak tacos, carnitas tacos, sopes, chile rillenos, carne asada burrito. Everything was delicious. I really liked their guacamole and salsa too. I was prepared to like this restaurant when I went in to get a take out order. But the first thing they want before you get your food or service from them is for you to decide if your going to give a 15, 20 or 25 percent tip. I am all for good service and I have been known to overtip for even a kind word, however, I usually tip because I have actually been given a service. The total of what this person did was ask for my order and hand me my order which she mislabeled. When you are asked for a tip prior to getting your food you really do not have a choice but to give one as you don't want retaliation on your food. Mr. Taco has consistently tasty food every time I go there and the customer service is great. I've tried a variety of menu items and haven't been disappointed yet. One of the best things is that they use high quality meat and their beef is my favorite. Their food is always well seasoned and reasonably priced. I usually order my food to go and it is always ready quickly and they never get my order wrong. My husband and I especially like the nachos, fried tacos, tostadas and beef enchiladas. After living here for a year we finally were able to give this place a try. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of food we received. I was expecting more of a thrown together spread but our food came like it was straight out of a high end restaurant. I have great memories of Mr. Taco ever since it opened. The Village needed a good place to get tacos and the owners really remodeled the store to look inviting, creating a mock Mexican tiled building. But what's more important is the food quality and I always thought the tacos were delicious, I'd normally order 6 or so of a variety of soft tacos and scarf them down immediately. Something's happened lately and I can't bring myself to write a 5 star review. During my last visit for take out my carnitas were badly burned and almost inedible. No I thought, you should have just told me to order more chicken or steak! So this review is a mix of 5 star memories and 3 star recent visit. I'll try again next time I visit Lompoc, and challenge you to make great carnitas, which is truly my favorite taco. read more

I actually liked the tacos here. I am disappointed tho because on 11/22/17 i took my son to go get a take out order. Everything went well. My order with tax came to $21.95. I paid with my debit card. I did not tip due to it was a quick take out order. The gal at registar was very nice. On 11/28 i was doing some online banking and noticed the charge for that sale was now $25.34. I went looked for my receipt and my alert email and in fact, someone put a tip on my charge. So my suggestion is DO NOT USE A DEBIT CARD THERE. read more
