Now I'm giving this place a three stars because the food was just served very sloppily. We ordered the burrito the shrimp burrito and the quesadilla. The shrimp burrito l was all soggy they put the refried beans all in the plate instead of putting in a separate container so when I got home everything was just a soggy mess. My son couldn't even eat the beef burrito. Had to take out the tortilla and throw it in the garbage just eat the meat. And if the customer does request for you to place things on the side like the sour cream it should be placed in own container not just placed in the same tray next to the food so everything is a soggy mess. I have no idea what how they prepared their quesadilla because everything was completely sloppy a quesadilla is supposed to be tortillas with the shrimp and the lettuce and the sour cream placed neatly inside of the circle and then cut into four or separate triangles this thing was a complete horrible mess. After getting hit with a Mexican craving, I used Yelp to find a taco place near my house (about 4 miles) and this one had great reviews. I was looking for something on the more authentic side, so reading the reviews really helped make the decision to come here. It reminds me of a little taco place up near Riverside that's attached to a gas station, and which has some of the best tacos I have eaten. While these tacos weren't quite as good, they were definitely the same style. Fresh ingredients, two corn tortilla loaded with meat and stacked together for maximum stability, and similar price (around $1.50-1.90 per taco). I got three tacos, and saved the last one for a later meal. I got the chicken, steak, and pastor (marinated pork). My favorite was the pastor. The marinated pork, understandably, was just far superior in taste to the other meats, which were a little under seasoned but still good. THE VERDICT: Really delicious Mexican-style food. Despite the cheesy Americanized name, this place is a small place with great food at affordable prices. Three tacos will run you around $6, and they easily fill someone my size up. It's hard to believe that it's been 6 years since I wrote my first review of Mr. Taco. Some things have changed - they've refreshed the store front and printed a nice fancy menu in English above the cash registers - and some things haven't - the Tlalpeno Soup! As part of the Farewell Tour of my favorite lunch spots, I again visited recently for that soup. It's the same flavorful broth, fresh veggies, rice, cheese, chicken, adobo pepper and avocado. It's a classic, so comforting on a cold winter's day. The guacamole on the salsa bar is more of a thin sauce than a chunky dip, but it's still great for dipping your tortillas. They now offer chips with your soup (as opposed to just corn or flour tortillas). Still a great spot, and I'm happy to see it thriving! read more

The booths are small and maybe fits 4 people max on the left of the restaurant. And 2 on the right. A TV is usually on the Telemundo channel with various soap opera's and is pretty loud. We usually luck out and order our food and grab a table before a crowd appears. [Service]: Fast casual kind of setup. Order at the counter and pick your own sauces and beverage. While the food is brought out to you via a table number. Tip can be added when paid at the counter. You also leave the plates on the table after finished dining. There aren't any bussers, so sometimes they don't do a good job of cleaning after a table leaves. You might be waiting on a table and plates are still sitting there. And yes, the cashiers do speak English clearly. No translators needed. [Food Highlights]: Just to try out all the selection of protein choices, I've mainly just ordered taco's. 3-4 is usually enough to fill me up. Most meats are minced up. Exception being shrimp, though the pieces are small. Unless stated otherwise, all tacos come with cilantro and diced onions, and are double stacked on white corn tortilla's I believe. Though protein choices might be jumbled up on the menu; for burrito's, you can still order them for taco's and vice versa. The salsa bar also doesn't have anything mild to me, it's all medium and up lol. Even the pico de gayo has a slight kick. Tacos: Pork Pastor - One of my favorites and consistent on the flavor for all the times that I have ordered it. Comes in a type of red marinate, I'm not sure of how to describe it aside from being yummy. Chorizo - Another favorite, as well as consistent. It's not a slice of chorizo, but deconstructed and in crumbles. Barbacoa (beef) - soft, stewed beef pieces that come in chunks. Not always consistent, but good nevertheless. Camarones / Shrimp - It's been a hit or a miss sometimes. Sometimes it's blackened, sometimes it's just skillet grilled I presumed. I prefer San Pancho's version instead. Carne Asada - Usually overcooked and chewy. I prefer the other types of meats instead. [Total Bill w/ Tip & Tax]: 4 taco's, it's less than $10. {Summary}: Mr. Taco might sound a bit cheesy and fit for more of taqueria that is adjoined to a gas station I think, but both locations are on point for authentic Mexican street taco's. The menu is vast though it's just a la cart or a plate with rice and beans w/ a side of shredded lettuce, tomato and sour cream. The value and flavor of the food is on par. Cleanliness might err a few people, and hold up any tables during the lunch rush. But they are worth a visit for lunch and dinner, even when crowded. read more

While the meat in my tacos was a little overcooked and stringy, decent prices and a good selection make Mr. Taco a nice addition to Text-Mex dining options in Alpharetta. 1st star -- cleanliness. This isn't some Tex-Mex dive. The restaurant on a Saturday lunch was clean. There's a "fixin's" bar (e.g. limes, jalapenos, salsas, etc.) in the middle of the dining area that should be ground zero for messes, and it was spotless. 2nd star -- big menu. You think you're only going to have the standards like tacos, enchiladas, etc. with a name like Mr. Taco, but the menu is huge -- think La Parilla huge. There's the typical lunch special menu you find at a large menu Tex-Mex place -- mix and match all sorts of things like tacos, enchiladas, etc. They've also got appetizers, salads, and a la carte items. Separate sections for enchiladas, quesadillas and burritos as well. More expensive items are found in the specialties and seafood (including ceviche) portion of the menu -- from $9 - $22. What you won't find on the website is the tortas and tacos. They had several torta variations and about 10-12 different tacos. Tacos were a la carte and no more than $2.50. 3rd star -- prices. See above. My wife and I ordered a quesadilla plate and 3 tacos with drinks for less than $15. Portions were good (more on the flavors / food below), and I left feeling like I got my money's worth. Any higher price on the tacos, though, and I'd have reservations. 4th star -- OK food; emphasis on the heat. My wife ordered the steak fajita quesadilla. It came with rice, fixin's for the quesadilla and a decent sized quesadilla with strips of steak, cheese, and grilled onions / peppers. I ordered the pastor (pork), pollo (chicken) and carne asada (steak) tacos a la carte, no sides. My wife felt the quesadilla was OK. Too many peppers and not enough cheese. Rice was a little bland. The guacamole that came with the quesadilla was very good. My tacos were OK, albeit a little small. I spiced them up from the bar I mentioned earlier. There's all sorts of "fixin's" on the bar, including several salsas for chips, entrees, etc. Limes, onions, seasonings, jalapenos, etc. are also available. I liked the bar because they had all the items rated for heat. I tried a creamy green salsa and found that it had a latent kick. I tried a hotter salsa verde and almost did too much. The tomatillo red salsa just smelled hot -- I didn't bother. They also had what looked like chopped onions and habaneros, if you were feeling silly about the spice on your food. Lost 5th star -- tacos were disappointing. I think I'd have really liked the tacos more if a) the meat were juicier or b) there was more of it. A + B, and they'd be great. Mind you, they cost all of $6 too, so your mileage may vary. The meat was a bit dry and cut down way too much into little strips. The pork was marinated in a spicy red sauce. It had the best flavor. The chicken was bland and dry but had the biggest pieces. The steak was dried out and a little fatty. Finally, too much cilantro. It was chopped cilantro -- mebbe chopped earlier in the day during prep? I know it was chopped, because there were stems in the tacos which sorta took away from them. Final words -- give Mr. Taco a try. Their food has potential. I'd definitely give more of the tacos a try, along with the tortas. The prices are right. The staff was pleasant. This place is exactly what it intends to be, a small in-expensive mexican place with great food. You order at a walk up counter, with a difficult to read board above it, you'll have to either pick up a paper menu at the counter or wait till you are wound around the line a bit directly in front of the cash registers to see the offerings. They have everything from a-la-carte tacos, burritos, etc to small combination plates. The most fun feature here is the salsa/toppings bar, ranging from mild, medium, hot salsas and pepper toppings. This is a good spot to have Mexican food, if you are tired of the typical run of the mill Mexican joints. You walk up to the counter, give your order, fill your cup at the self serve drink fountain, take your number to the table, and they bring out your order; a little out of the ordinary for a Mexican joint. A friend was visiting the Atlanta area for work. He had frequented Mr. Taco many times during his trip and recommended that we eat her one evening. I was able to order in advance and set a pick up time. I apparently ordered quite early as it only takes them about 15 min to get the food ready. Ooops. But they said they would just have it ready at the time asked. I picked it up right before closing due to an unfortunate delay. The staff weren't rude about it all. They were starting to clean up and get items off the bar, but I was able to grab some different salsas before leaving. I ordered the steak quesadilla fajita dinner. It is cooked with bell pepper, onions, and tomatoes. Served with rice, lettuce, guac, sour cream, and tomatoes. Maybe I'm crazy, but shouldn't a quesadilla have tons of cheese? It was quite lacking in that department. I found the dish to be rather on the dry side. There was tons of food, but I didn't feel a craving to eat it all. Rice was good. Food here is decent and authentic. If a mexican restaurant has majority mexican patrons, u cant go wrong with the food. However, this place needs to decide whether it will be set up like a fastfood joint where everything is self service or an actual restaurant with servers. It seemed to be kinda halfway in between the two. First off, food did not arrive in proper order. Chips and queso dip came first. Soft drinks were self serve but i ordered guava juice, which i had to wait at the table for until a lady brought it from the kitchen. Then burrito and tacos came next. I had ordered sides with my tacos but it did not arrive together and the server completely forgot about it until i asked while i was on my last taco. And then the missing soup was brought out last. Every plate was brought to the table separately by different employees. So there were much confusion about what i had ordered. In addition, other than the salsa bar, there were no hot sauce bottles at the table. Tacos and burritos need extra hot sauce kick beyond just spicy salsa in my opinion. Lets talk about price. Spending over $30 for some tacos, burrito, dip, and soup for lunch seems a bit pricy. I have a feeling they may have rang it up wrong as i was not given a receipt. If the food was out of this world great, i would pay $30 for mexican lunch. My carne asada steak had quite a bit of fat and my tacos were drenched in oil and i have no idea why. And the steaks were not chopped up so i had to shred them with my fingers and take all the fatty pieces out......which made my tacos cold....which made the meat taste more gamey....and i got a stomach ache right away. I decided to give the white cheese enchilada a try and it was so good. It's amazing that I remember how it tasted because I ate it so fast.My friend had the taco salad and she enjoyed her food too. Staff is super friendly and it's a fun environment. They have a salsa bar where there's about 10 salsas you can choose from. I racked up on the guacamole flavor. Yes. "Mr. Taco" may be the worst name ever. But you can't judge a book by its cover. Particularly when it comes to this place. If you're looking for authentic, freshly-made Mexican food that's not going to break the bank, this is your place. They also have fast delivery and I've never had anything show up that was less than awesome. Some favorites: - Molcajete: a massive portion of grilled shrimp, chicken and beef with peppers and onions in a spicy sauce. Served with tortillas, beans and rice. it's enough to feed at least 2-3 people and utterly delicious. - Guacamole: so fresh you want to slap it and perfectly spiced with fresh jalapenos, tomatoes and onions. Order the big one. You'll thank me later. - Tlalpeño Soup: I know. I'd never heard of it either. But it's so comforting you'll never want to NOT order it again. This clearly homemade chicken stock is packed with shredded chicken, rice, avocado, cheese, onions, cilantro, tomatoes, and chipotle pepper. It's like a love letter to your tummy. Solid 3 stars We came here for a late weekend lunch and it was a great place to get authentic tacos. We have been frequenting various taco spots for late lunch and to try different places for tacos. This location is one of two and upon entering, walked up to the counter to order. It's a order at the counter and then they call your number when the food is ready. We tried barbacoa, pastor and cochinita pibil; we agreed that pastor and cochinita pibil were the best. The barbacoa was a tad dry. The extra star for the fantastic salsa bar Mr. Taco has at the back of the restaurant. We tried every single salsa and liked them all very much, one was a bit too vinegary but all very good. We ended up having two servings each of the salsas. The service is nice and they were happy to answer questions for the menu. If you're not sure where Mr. Taco is located, it's behind CVS. Mr. Taco can be found directly off 75-South close to the State Farmer's Market. It's located next door to Chevron. I'm from California, so my judgement on Mexican food is real hard. This place was decent. The nachos come with nacho cheese. The guacamole was pretty good, loved the sour tang from the extra lime in it. Definitely edible, just not what I'm used to. I hope to find a DELECTABLE Mexican food spot out here in Atlanta asap! read more

Parking spaces was plentiful but the area was tight to turn. My family ordered food and sat down in a booth. Less than 10 mins later the food arrived. The Lunch Specials were very well priced. I had a Tamale, Burrito, and Enchilada that was tasty. The only negative was that the Tamale was dry to the point that the chicken chewed like jerky. My daughter had the Cheese Quesadilla with fries (dry and greasy). My wife had the Chicken Fajita that was more than she could eat. Cheese dip was average but most of our party enjoyed the chips it came with. We tried two salsas from the free salsa bar - the guacamole and green tomatillo, and both were very good. The Mexican burrito with cochinita pibil was dry and nothing special but the refried beans it came with were excellent. We tried 3 Mexican tacos - the amount of cilantro and onion was balanced. Of the 3, the cochinita pibil was the favorite, but the pastor was also very good. The cecina beef was pretty tough. The last member of our party had the Tlalpeno soup, which was as good as the other reviews suggest, and the tostada de tingo, which she also enjoyed. Well priced and a very casual atmosphere. My dad introduced me to this place and I haven't been able to stay away since. Their caldo tlalpeño is out of this world delicious. I love how they put a smoky pepper and melty cheese in it. I feel like that's what makes it different from Mexican chicken soups I've had at other restaurants. Im also a huge fan of their salsas.
