First time in with hubby and daughter today. We started with the large queso and small guacamole. The chips were good and not greasy like some other places. The salsa was a little on the spicy side but still had good flavor. For our mains, hubby and I shared the carne asada and my daughter had the kids chicken fingers and fries. Hubby also ordered a Texas Margarita. The queso was great. We got jalapenos on the side since I am the only one who likes them but the cheese had a nice thick consistency (I can't stand it when they are too watery) and good flavor even without the jalapeno. The guacamole was not something we would order again. It was way too smooth (we prefer chunky with onions, tomatoes, etc.) and honestly tasted storebought rather than made in house, which was disappointing for a Mexican restaurant. The carne asada was decent and I would order that again. My daughter seemed happy with her meal. Service was good and I enjoyed all the food except the guac, so we will probably be back again sometime in the near future. read more

I have been eating at various El Torero locations since the early 1990s. Though several locations have closed and it no longer appears to be a chain, this one seems to retain the original menu and vibe. We were spending part of the afternoon in Roswell and opted for lunch here on a Saturday. It was less than 10 minutes away from Roswell's downtown. There is a long stretch of somewhat uniform shopping plazas along Crossville Road, and this El Torero is located within one of them. I think I had visited this location once before, but it has probably been over a decade. It is one of less convenient of their restaurants, but with closures that is less true now. There was plenty of parking in the shared lot in front. We arrived shortly after they opened so they were not yet busy. We had our choice of seating. The menu has a lot of options, but we went for the lunch combos, which are available on Saturday also. The restaurant is closed on Sundays. The salsa is excellent - probably my favorite of any Mexican restaurant. Their chips have evolved from being thinner and lighter to now being more of the dense corn variety. That isn't bad; I don't have a very strong preference either way. I don't recall which one my wife chose, but I got the #4 (taco / rice / beans). Everything was great, and they do not appear to have altered the ingredients as the tastes remain the same as I recall. Prices are reasonable. It is always a rare treat to visit an El Torero these days, but if you live in this area, you should definitely check this place out. read more

This place has a special place in the heart of our family. As a kid my family and I would do family dinner every week on Friday at the Stone Mountain location. When we lived in Gwinnett, we frequented Duluth. Today, our family has kept the tradition of El Torero being our favorite Mexican restaurant for our family. We have been going ever since they were making calendars from pictures of the owner's fishing trips! A long time! Now as a mother, my son has fallen in love with this place. The food is comforting and delicious and the restaurant itself is cozy and clean. No complaints about the service, our waitress was attentive and very kind. Now this was my second time at this particular location with my son as it's the closest to where we live now. We will continue coming! My son loves the shredded chicken soft tacos and I have been getting the chicken nachos every time I've gone for at least the last two decades. The recipes have never changed and I appreciate that so much. We love El Torero! read more

TL;DR Tasty, no-frills Mexican restaurant with more combinations than a row of lockers. I hope you're not reading this after you pulled into the parking lot. If so, too late. You're not here for the ambiance, right? You might not believe my comment about the number of combinations, but to give you an idea, I had #31. I don't remember where that landed in the extensive menu of choice. Probably about center. Once you decode it, though, most items are the standard fare in a variety of different choices. I really enjoyed the chips and salsa as well as my meal, overall. The enchiladas, chile relleno, and tacos were all pretty good and reasonably priced. Nothing really stands out about the service... but it felt like my order came out before I finished the chips. Friendly folks overall. HOW TO READ MY REVIEWS: 1 Star - Does not approach edible. I am visiting from out of state and was taken here, the family that owns this place makes the guests that come in feel completely welcome and at home. There menu is huge, which can be scary for some, but they let you know what each item is and what comes in it. I love that they have so many options for meats and I ended up get a margarita and the chorizo and egg chilaquiles. The margarita was amazing and refreshing with a perfect amount of tequila that makes it a perfect drink through out your whole meal. The chilaquiles were amazing, if you have never had it give it a try they also have one with just chicken. The spice from the chorizo and the mix of egg and tomato sauce over the tortilla chips just melts in your mouth. I highly recommend this place if you want Mexican food and a warm environment. read more

Pretty good food, great prices, so-so chips/salsa, spotty service. When we've come with a small party--standard service. When we came with a large party--terrible service. It took 30+ minutes just to get everyone water. I was brought the wrong drink twice. Guac and cheese ordered didn't come out until after the meals were already out. Had to go up to the front to change out my drink, to get a to go container. We will definitely come back--just as a couple during non peak hours. read more

Authentic Mexican chicken tacos. The kind I used to get across the border in Matamoros at Hotel Del Ray. Made with real Mexican stewed chicken. The chips were hot and the salsa was flavorful with a nice kick. Authentic Mexican music playing over the speaker as well. Simply hard working folks making great Mexican Food. I drove from my home specifically to go to this restaurant. I walked in to order take-out and saw the waiter helping someone, so I grabbed a menu. Thirty-seconds later, he approached me and informed me that "take-out was at the window outside." I go out and he asks for my order, I asked him for a menu. He got an attitude and said, "you were already looking at the menu," and instead of handing me a menu, he tossed it on the counter! I left. Ive been there before, the food is good. I grew up going to el torero. Recently it seems every time i go in there the tables smell like a dirty rag or mop water. Not very apitizing. Also is that mold on the ceiling tiles? This place was great back in the day. I habe so many good memories here. It just needs a little updating. I hate to see it decline. read more

3 stars might be a little high here. Food was REALLY average. Helpings were large, the Beans and rice(sides) were good. Food was hot, lots of families- hard tables, kind of a cafeteria type of seating. Service was maybe average, after order was received - server kinda disappeared . Margaritas were a little watered down, but passable. This place received good recommendations for the fajitas - but I would say they were poor. It was between this place and a place claiming to offer the best burgers in Roswell. My wife chose this place. I ordered the Flautas with beef and guacamole. Sure the seating is like your typical Mexican restaurant but it is bigger and the service people were waiting immediately to help you. It was more than adequately staffed with attentive older gentlemen. The place is clean and comfortable and wasn't crowded. There were about 4 or 5 other couples or small groups there at lunch (1:00 on a Tuesday). All three waiters were waiting for the next client. The food arrived promptly. It was definitely above average. I had ordered the cheese with Jalapenos on top of my Flauta. It was $5.75 plus $1 for the cheese with jalapenos. It was great. I cleaned my plate. When it comes to Mexican food, you pretty much should know what you are getting, and this place served what you expect a good, decent Mexican food place to serve. Then I looked up, and that was the reason for the five star. The owner is a big-time nature photography buff and there are probably 60 really, really cool nature prints. His name is Manuel Magana and under most of the prints it says photographed by Manuel Magana, Cozumel, Mexico. He's got a lot of marine aquaria, my favorite, but also a lot of fauna stuff like jaguars. You can spend a half hour in here just looking at the cool photos plus he has a print of more at the checkout counter. The photos are what gives this place the 5 star. Manuel Magana owns 7 of these around Atlanta it seems, hence he obviously has the time to indulge an incredibly rewarding hobby. I am glad to be able to partake of some of the fruits of that. OH NO!!! During the pandemic, we've eaten inside a restaurant only three times...this was our fourth. Before we entered, I peeked in to see if the tables were spaced appropriately, not too many people in dining area, wait staff wearing masks, all looked okay. We enjoyed our good, basic no-frills Mexican food and I went to pay. There is a pass thru from the kitchen to the cash register area and YUCK....NOT ONE food preparer was wearing a mask. I ordered a taco and chili relleno. The rice was good, not at all greasy and the taco was soft and delicious. My chili however had water around it from what I assume was defrosting since the inside of the chili was still cool. Service was meh. El Torero is overpriced, greasy and their dishes don't have very much taste. The floor is greasy and you have to sit in fast food-style booths. For example, a burrito, taco & beans on the dinner menu is around $10.50 and is VERY bland in taste. At similar restaurants (e.g. El Porton) - the combination dinners are a dollar or two less expensive and have much better taste. Do yourself a favor and drive the extra mile to Tara Humata, their food is much better quality there - we won't be going back. read more

I always try to give a place a couple of tries before giving it a bad review - they could have had just an off night. But sadly, El Torero has a lot of those it seems. The place doesn't seem like it was built with Mexican in mind - with a counter to pay at and the cheapo seating, it looks like it was supposed to be a fast-food place that went under. The random nature scenes on the wall don't tell me anything that says 'Mexico'. The pay station is crowded and shows off too much stuff that should be 'behind the scenes'. There's nothing fancy on the oversized menu - the same menu at any mexican restaurant, but in a giant oversized sheet that's hard to hold. The ordering is also a little weird. We ordered our drinks and the waiter left the ticket at our table. When we wanted to order the food, he took the ticket back. Why leave that there? He also left it right in front of our toddler, so there's not a lot of situational awareness here. The food was unimpressive. The guacamole and salsa were clearly from a can or a tube - in fact, I would be surprised if anything was made on premises. My chimichangas were dry and not very flavorful. Also, apparently steak and shredded beef are the same thing, despite what I get at other places. I guess the food wasn't truly BAD, but it was definitely not good. I could forgive weird decor, poor service, and unpleasant food if it was all really cheap. Nope! I ended up paying as much for our crappy meal as I would if I had gotten alcohol at a good mexican place. We only went here because the place we wanted to go was crowded. Some well made Americanized Mexican is a beautiful thing. And the food at this Roswell staple is just as beautiful as the owner's intriguing photography that adorns the walls. It's not as cheap as my beloved Viva Mexico in Marietta, but it's just as fresh and tasty. The "Special Taco Salad" is a generous portion of crispy lettuce, topped with some of the best ground beef I've had, along with a literal mountain of guacamole and sour cream, crowned off with a single tomato slice, all piled high in a freshly fried taco shell. Delicious. Their salsa is a bit watery, but has a nice kick, and works well on their thicker-style tortilla chips that are served warm. Service is excellent, though do keep in mind they close for a couple of hours after lunch and reopen for dinner at 5pm, and they are also closed on Sundays. All in all, a very solid choice for Mexican food in Roswell. Now I just want to try one of their frozen 16oz. margaritas (for only $6)! read more

My wife and I have been looking for a new restaurant and after checking this one out on Yelp, we decided to try it. It is our new favorite Mexican! The food was excellent (not too bland as often happens when dealing with the general public) and the portions and prices were both good. My prior review was based on the first time I'd eaten here, three and a half years later, I had to update. This place is consistently great. The food has never once, been anything but really good. It's consistent, which has not happened at any other Mexican place I've been to in the area since I've lived here. The service is attentive and friendly no matter the time of day. In 20 or 25 visits, I have never seen a dirty table that wasn't cleared in moments, never had to send back a dirty fork, or had to wait more then 2 minutes for a refill, no matter what I was drinking.
