I came to Mr Taco on a whim. I was glad I gave in to my cravings because boy, let me tell you, the food was fantastic! I ordered the steak and mushroom special at the recommendation of the staff. Had lunch here the other day. Taco Tuesday had a couple of offerings for $8.95. My wife and I both had the hard beef taco. The were loaded with shredded beef, lettuce and cheese. I've been going to this place for 20 years and it's been good up until the last four or five years. It's really gone downhill. Prices have gone up more than other places, food quality has gone down and service has gone way down. Today, I ordered cheese enchiladas for my son and emphasized that my son does not like the mole sauce and wanted the red sauce and they guaranteed me they were giving me the red sauce. When I got home with my takeout order, it turned out to be mole sauce. This is the third or fourth time in a row that they've done this, so the only conclusion I can come to is it is intentional. Also, I ordered a fish burrito for myself and specified grilled fish. Instead, they gave me fried fish and it was old and dry and mostly cabbage. I asked about the bacon breakfast burrito and asked what was on it. They said beans and egg. Which was fine. Something simple. I had to call an ambulance this morning for my mom so I'm right next-door at Kaiser and just wanted to get a little bite to eat. But I am lactose intolerant, which means when I saw the cheese on it I just threw it away. I've had a rough morning and I didn't wanna deal with confrontation. But if they would've said cheese, I would've told him to hold the cheese. I'd already had a couple bites and I will survive, but I will tell you that the bacon was not fresh. Not that I could tell it was more like jerky. So I was thrilled to throw it away because honestly, the prime ingredient did not taste very good. This place is our go-to place for quick and plentiful Mexican food in San Marcos. Their Carne Asada Burrito is my favorite and huge, but I was adventurous and tried their Charger tostada grande recently and loved it! Salsa bar is plentiful and their red salsa is my favorite too (it's mild for those who are not big into super spicy). They make their orders quickly so you generally don't have a long wait. We probably get Mr Taco about 4 times a year and have no regrets each time, other than you'll. Be really full afterwards. They have great tacos, rolled tacos, burritos and tostadas (I've tried each of these, the burrito is my favorite). ----TL;DR---- PROS: convenient location, reasonable prices, solid and consistent quality, big portion sizes, quick service. What I got was a bone dry chimi with dry shredded chicken inside (ONLY) on a bed of lettuce. No cheese. ON A BED OF LETTUCE so every bite gets some mixed in. I used to go to this taco shop many many years ago when I was a CSUSM student. I had no complaints back then. Food, customer service, student friendly ambiance, all good. I believe the price was also ok for a poor student. However, this time I took my friend's kid and all she wanted was flour tortillas tacos with carne asada. No toppings. I am 100% certain that I got ripped off. I checked their menu and they charge $4.25 per taco. I understand that I requested flour tortillas instead of corn but to charge TWO PLAIN TACOS FOR $15.85 PLUS $1.95 FOR THE FLOUR TORTILLAS???????? Its unbelievable. The menu says that the prices are not accurate but to this level I can only call it as a rip off. On top of everything the lady at the register never said that the prices would be this much extra for TWO PLAIN TACOS as the receipt states. I will not go back there. However, if you still decide to go there even after reading my review, I recommend triple checking your receipt to make sure they are not ripping you off. There is no way that two tacos can cost $17.24. The cherry on top, the lady at the register was not friendly and had an attitude. I will add that the customer service needs to be improved. read more

I'm vegan so I can't do dairy. I was told the beans are not made with lard but the rice was made with chicken stock so I only got a bean burrito, chips, salsa, and a drink. My order came up before my friends even though she had ordered before me. The girl who took my order was nice. The drink was overly sweetened and syrupy- I got the Jamaica (hibiscus drink) from the fountain machine. We rushed back to our training only for me to discover that there was cheese in my burrito. Luckily, I had something to eat but was disappointed. I had to head back in the afternoon traffic rush to request my money back. I didn't need another burrito after all. When I got there the girl at the counter said she'd tell her boss? The owner? I don't know but she gave me a dirty look and didn't apologize until the very end with a very sarcastic and unempathetic, "Sorry." I was refunded $4.27 exactly. I didn't get an itemized receipt so I left and didn't say anything but even the bean burrito on an older picture of their menu is $5 so... I think I got jipped and to top it off I even tipped the girl when I ordered. Sadly, I won't be ordering from here again. At least the chips and salsa were descent. It does look popular with the locals and my friend did seem to enjoy her meal but for anyone with dietary restrictions, this place is a no go. You order first and then they bring your food to you via table numbers. They have a delicious red salsa that I love to put on everything. They have tasty burritos and I love their rolled tacos. We used to enjoy this place. Recently, my son, not living here, ordered food for the family, using Doordash. My fish taco had no fish, but there was a rolled taco inside to make it look filled. There was a teaspoon of the chopped tomato, onions and cilantro I had requested, along with a teaspoon of liquid guacamole and a dollop of sour cream. Other dishes in the order were equally starvation meals. I am assuming that post Covid issues and higher food and labor costs led still open eateries to cheat delivery customers who are not in the restaurant to complain. read more

Apparently their hottest salsa is called "Super Duper Spicy" according to the young girl behind the counter. Definitely spicy but not overwhelming. I'd order it again. The burrito is HUGE. Most importantly it's not greasy like other chorizo burrito's I've had at other establishments. Opt for the refried beans for an extra .95c and it'll make every bite a bit creamier. The day before leaving California, I was getting my Mexican food fix. I was in the area, and years ago, I had been to Mrs. TACO in Vista. I on this trip I saw Mrs. has changed to Mr. I ordered a super breakfast burrito without the ham. If you order bacon and egg burrito, it has just that. If you want to add potatoes and cheese, it's. 95 cents extra. So it's cheaper thanks to 1 of the workers to order the super one. It comes with cheese, potatoes, bacon, eggs, and beans. You get 2 salsas free if you want more it .50 cents each. I had to buy 2 extra. I probably only need 3, but I at down, and they have a fountain soda area, and you get free refills. They had soda, horchata, and Jamaica. I drank plenty to make up for the salsa. It's sad you used to get extra before covid for free. Prices in general in California is ridiculous. I burrito runs about $10.00, and I got a Carnitas burrito for my friend, which was a few dollars more. He burrito looked really good and stuffed. She enjoyed it as well. I would definitely come back to eat here and try other items. It was very busy, so that's always a good sign. It was very clean, the bathroom was clean, and the staff was very nice. read more
