Thomas at the front desk was professional and helpful. I needed all new tires with several additional services and he took care of me that day. However, I've tried calling him to express a few concerns and he never returned my call. First, the mechanic got grease all over my light grey headliner that I cannot get out, they just tossed the spare in my trunk without securing it or putting anything away, and THEY LEFT MY HOOD OPEN! I had to pull over and secure it myself, thankfully before I got on the highway. Not the type of service that I would expect after paying almost $2k at a shop. read more

I owe this shop this review. On Thursday, 11 Jan, this shop was kind enough to put air in a tire for me during a day trip to Durham. I had replacement of all four tires scheduled for the next week in Richmond, but on the way to Durham that day, somewhere south of South Hill, I'd picked up a nail causing a slow leak in the right front tire. Once alerted to the leak, between South Hill and Durham, I stopped at four service stations hoping to top off the tire with air. NONE had working air pumps. Following an appt at Duke Hospital, the tire was flat. I stopped at three more service stations with non-functional air pumps before finding my way to this shop. I considered replacing all four tires right then, but I don't live in Durham, replacement was scheduled in Richmond, and other things were pressing. A fill at this shop, another at Love's in South Hill, and purchase of a portable compressor just in case, got me home to my own garage and compressor. All the same, I owe Mr Tire this thanks. The technician who helped me was professional, courteous, kind, and a genuine Godsend after SEVEN useless stops earlier (two Sheetz, an Exxon, two BPs, a Shell, and a mom & pop station). Where do people fill their tires these days?! If I lived in Durham, this shop would get my business. As it is, they at least get my thanks, and this review. read more

Convenient location, only a 20 minute walk from Duke, though I wouldn't trust them for much more than inspections and oil changes (don't forget your coupon!). I've been getting them here for years because the location is convenient for me. They offer free tire rotations if you bought your tires there, but twice I've caught them not rotating tires when they swore that they had. You might want to mark the tires so you can tell whether they've actually been rotated. Be sure to check your windshield wipers before inspection. If they fail inspection, they'll install very pricey ones. read more

I don't write many reviews but I had to write that one. I honestly don't know much about car part prices, but I really felt I was dealing with people who want to take advantage of me. I'm referring to the Mr. Tire on Lasalle St in Durham NC As you can read in the previous reviews, I was convinced to change my front brakes, brake fluids, and rotors because "it is dangerous and could be a threat to your life". Making people fear for their lives. I then told them I wanted to take my car to another shop for a second opinion. The guy at the desk then urged me again to do it and he gave me a discount telling me "we'll do all of that for that much less", I did. I discover in the end that the brake fluid wasn't replaced (that was the worst part for me). I did not feel confident I was getting things for the right price either, for that I'm including a list of parts and prices. Please leave your thoughts on whether these are expensive or not. These include labor. In the end, I paid: $50 for a gas cap $130 for brake pads $200 for 2 brake rotors $60 for a cabin air filter $60 for a OBDII computer scan (my yellow engine light was on) $200 for 5 spark plugs $145 for a fuel system service. My car is a 2011 VW Jetta Sedan. read more

I was once a regular customer. Service has become sub-par, work requested only partially done (ask for inspection and oil change but only get an inspection), and now I'm having to replace 3 wheel lugs. Tuesday I got an oil change with tire rotation. 3 days later I wanted to do some work myself on the shocks and found 3 cross threaded lugs between the two rear wheels. Most likely the result of not starting the nuts by hand before using the torque gun. Now I'm having to wait for 3 hrs on a holiday weekend for lugs to be replaced. Not impressed! read more

Scammers & douchebags. Went in today for low tire pressure - their response 1) needed alignment and 2) nail/screw is in side, so it couldn't be plugged. New tire(s) were necessary. I went in needing an oil change, and the employees offered me a great service. I had been getting some warnings from my car and it seemed like something might've been worse than just needing an oil change. The employees told me that my previous oil change had been messed up and that oil had been leaking from my oil filter. They showed me where the problem was and advised me to take pictures of it, in case my engine ended up having problems. I really appreciated that they went the extra mile to make sure I was aware of the problems my vehicle might experience and how to remedy them. After I move to my new apartment, I went to the store my maintenance. The store is clean and had place to stay, although the fee is a little higher compared to other places. Yesterday I went to the store for inspection and they told me my headlight and tail light were broken need to change and failed my inspection. I did not left my car there since I had work to do. But I did not find this problem by myself that night . I went to the store today ask them to show me. They did not show me and just say they would take care. I paid the 200 dollar for replace light. In the end, they showed me the car and it was the same condition as last night. My mistake did not take a picture to prove it. But I will never step into the store again. read more

Disgusting customer service! If you can find a different shop, I highly recommend you do that. I visited this shop on a Sunday with the intention of getting an oil change. A couple of minutes later, they told me they couldn't change my oil because the oil drain plug is messed up, so I would need to get my oil pan replaced -- a whopping $733. I told them I would come back the next day. The next day they were desperately calling me, but I was busy on campus. Suddenly I realized all the lights on my dashboard are going off. A couple of times I tried turning the car on, it would run, but then stall and shut off. So I manage to take it to Autozone. They run a diagnostics and I'm getting error codes suggesting I replace my the MAF sensor, which is wild! So I decide to take a look under the hood and realize that Mr. Tire Auto Service Center had the AUDACITY of disconnecting one of the tubings connected to the engine. I connect the tubing again, disconnect/reconnect the battery and my dashboard normalizes. The throttling and stalling has stopped. Honestly, I SHOULD press charges for putting my life at risk. They are lucky that my car didn't stall in the middle of the highway and cause an accident. I'm an truly appalled and will make sure I let people know to avoid this place at all cost. read more

This place is good for tire changing but not for any other service for your car. I came here for an emergency electrical problem, only installation for new battery terminals because of having corrotion, they asked for more than hundred dollars. I did not have any option at that time because I did not have any mechanic tools to do it myself and my car was absolutely not working and stranded. although mechanic is very fast and do great job, however for the price it is not so recommended. Richard at Monro Muffler is kind, professional and is a no BS kinda man who keeps his mechanics in line. The mechanics themselves are friendly and honest, good men. Jose, Nelson and the manager Paul have all served me very well. They'll even drive you in their own vehicles if you need a ride somewhere. I started going to Rich at Monro with my company fleet and was served so well and so fast I started taking in my own vehicle. Do yourself and Richard a favor and call a day or two ahead to see how busy they expect to be to minimize your wait time. If you have a big job- walk 10 minutes down to 9th street and hangout at a Cafe and wait to be called by Rich. I've taken ten vehicles over the course of 6 months in and have received reliably good service each time. I felt compelled to write a detailed review after such incomparbly poor service elsewhere in Durham and Raleigh. If I moved to Raleigh, I'd probably stay with Monro. I have taken my 2005 Ford Explorer SUV to the Lasalle St. location for the last 3 years. I have called to make appointments and have made them online. The service advisors there are excellent in customer service and the mechanics have done excellent work. My vehicle has always driven better after they service it and compared to University Ford North, (where I used to go for service,) Mr. Tire has provided much better service, pleasant service advisors, clean waiting room with free wi-fi, clean restrooms. My SUV has 145,000 miles now and I have driven from Durham to Washington DC a few times with no auto issues. My intermittent dashboard brake indicator became non-intermittent on a Sunday morning so I knew it was time to take the car in. I was able to schedule an appointment online that afternoon, which was confirmed within minutes, and dropped the car off Monday morning. I assumed I was due for new brake pads, and the counter guy gave me accurate estimates of what costs I might be facing, both with and without rotor turning/replacement. Within an hour or two I received a call explaining that my pads had plenty of life left in them all around, but that my master cylinder was bad (which definitely matched with the mushy pedal symptom I'd been having since long before the dash indicator came on). He reviewed pricing with me over the phone and I authorized the work. I was able to pick up the car and drive it home that afternoon, as planned. I returned today since the dash indicator was still on and I couldn't find a code in OBDII to clear myself, and they checked it out for free. The fix would have been to replace the still-good pads on the front axles (since the sensor comes with the pads), so I decided to deal with the dash indicator until such time as I can get a VW buddy with VAG-com to delete the sensor in the onboard computer. A shadier shop would have just replaced the pads unnecessarily and made some bank off of my misfortune. Mr. Tire did not, much to their credit. read more

They will try to screw you! These guys tried to charge me for a complete replacement of my brake pads and rotors, when I knew they just needed new pads and a cleaning. They wanted $660 for all this (which is overpriced on top of unnecessary). They were nice about it, unlike other major chains which try to use fear to sell you unnecessary services, but I'm not going to spend $660 for nice. I took the car to University Shell just up the road and they put my car on the lift and showed me that I did NOT in fact need new rotors, just a good cleaning and replacement of the pads. Not to be trusted, not even for a simple oil change. I was once a regular but after a few bad experiences went elsewhere. I had heard that management had changed and their service had improved so when I received a coupon in the mail for a Oil Changes plus tire rotation I thought I would give me a 2nd chance. Not a good idea. The coupon included a free tire rotation - something that is hard to do at home. After Leandre failed to convince me to buy new tires that day he decided without consulting me not to rotate my tires. When I paid and was given a receipt I asked whether the tires had been rotated. Luther said he didn't know and couldn't find out, that only Leandre knew and he has left for the day (at 15h00). After I insisted that someone must know he reluctantly asked someone and told me that they had not rotated the tires. The coupon was misleading, they don't do what it says. The staff attitude is that your concerns are unimportant. Edited to add: I did get an invite to call a manager. I didn't because once you regard people who might work on safety features of the car in which you transport your children as both incompetent and less than honest you don't take your care back to them. I did take the vehicle elsewhere, they told me the tires did not need changing and rotated them for me. read more

This service center is appalling. The employees made us feel we were dealing with crooks. My wife's car broke down in the parking lot at her work and we towed it here because it was the closest location. The mechanic examined it and did his "we have good news and bad news" routine and told her they can fix it for $1500-$1800 (depending on what else they might find wrong?!). When I went to talk to them, they said they might do the repair with some used parts and bring it down to $1200, but they highly discouraged that because "it would put our lives in danger". There was absolutely no sense of trust in our conversation. We decided to tow our car to our regular mechanic and he fixed it for $350! read more

I was having some problems with my shocks/struts (at least that was my guess) and went to my dealer at 7:30 am. They had 70 other customers in line and with appointments before they could look at my car . . and they were going to charge me $165 just to do so. Mr. Tire is up the street from my house so I popped in there (same time . . 7:30 the next day) and he took my keys, called me back with the problem and quote within an hour, no pressure to do other services, fixed my car (which now drives perfectly fine) by noon.
