I was purchasing a vehicle from a local buyer of Pittsboro. Asked to see if we can take it and review any major repairs and of course I would pay for the inspections and give him a little for his time. So I explained to the shop I need to know if any major issues in engine or transmission. I paid $60 and they said vehicle is in great shape but will need new break pads (something I could live with) so I thank them and purchase the car. Sure enough it broke down 5 days later. Took it in for review and the body shop in Raleigh were confused said any basic mechanic would have seen the issue and from what it sounds like they other place just took my money and said everything was good. Now do I blame them for buying a used car NO! Of course I know the risk. What bothers me is that they didn't do the inspection that I told them to do. It wasn't a NC inspection where they charge $13. I wanted to check the engine and transmission that's why I paid over $60 for the to do so!!! Anyways I was able to fix the issue if they would have just done the job I could have use that to negotiate but seems like they care more about easy money and F the outer town people. read more

The guys at Performance Auto are friendly, professional and knowledgeable. While it's best to make an appointment for service, they also will fit your car in if there's an emergency. We've gone there for small things like flat tires and oil changes to more extensive service like brakes and air conditioning. They are very fair with their pricing, and we've always been pleased with the repairs they've made. When we moved here, many people recommended going to Performance Auto and now we know why. I have been using Performance Automotive and Tire since moving to Pittsboro eight years ago. They have performed all sorts of work on both our family vehicles. The work has ranged from regular routine servicing and tire purchases to more complex issues. Their work has always been excellent and reasonably priced. On only one occasion did I have to return for an adjustment and it was handled instantly, correctly and without charge. They are always friendly and professional and will patiently explain the work and the options. I have never had better or more reliable service anywhere. They are simply the best. read more

They know how much we consider our 1993 truck being worth its weight in gold and were so diligent and persistent in discovering the problem. Performance Automotive went above and beyond to solve the truck's issues which resulted in an extremely reasonable fee on our part. We know they spent countless hours on the truck. I had one of those on and off again problems with starting my Ranger that went on for years. I had brought it to at least 4 different places that supposedly diagnosed and fixed it. Finally, after having to call my neighbor up to come and get me because my my truck wouldn't start.. she recommended I call Weldon at Performance Auto and Tire. I did. They fixed it! I have to say, it pains me to give a 2 star, but I think it's warranted. I think Eldon and Andrew are honest men that genuinely believe what they say and want to help. However, I think there is a disconnect with that and the actual work. Twice I had fluid changes that leaked because plugs were hand tight and I had a differential fluid change done where the gasket clearly wasn't applied properly and drips. I want to trust them, and there have been other times that went smoothly, but I do think the work in the end is a bit questionable. I need to trust my mechanic, which is hard to do when routine maintenance jobs are done poorly and I need to get under my car and finish the job. read more

What a great neighbors we have at Performance Auto. I hadn't done much business with them but when I have been there they have been courteous and efficient. Recently my wife and I stopped to get the mail at Pittsboro post office. We pulled up next to an older couple who had locked their keys in the car. They were having a bad day and where very stressed. My wife called Performance Auto and the counter man promised that he could come help at 1 o'clock when the guys got back from lunch. Sure enough at 10 mins after 1 he showed up, unlocked the door using the specialty tools he had and handed the them the keys. And the best part of it was that he didn't charge them a cent. Awesome. Thank you to everyone at Performance Auto for the nicest most neighborly act of kindness I have seen in a long time. My wife and I just moved to Pittsboro this summer and it's people like this that make us so happy we did. read more

went in for an oil change. when ready to leave, the tech told me and the manager that the tire sensor on one tire was now not reading the pressure, after the tech had checked air pressure - everything was fine before they touched it, so it had obviously been damaged by his mishandling of the tire when he inflated it. (I know that these air sensors in the tire valve are sensitive to rough handling) But -- Instead of offering to fix it as he should have, the owner let me drive off , after giving me a quote on what he would charge me for repairing it (over $100)! as I had an appointment elsewhere, I left , then after researching this issue, found that it is actually illegal for a shop to release a car with this defect, and I was very upset that I had been handled like this. (have to wonder, was it because I am a woman and a senior?) I went back in on Monday and said that since they had damaged it, they needed to repair it. how strange, without argument, he agreed, and they did satisfactorily repair it, they obviously knew it was their fault, and that they were in the wrong - why did I have to confront them about this? Very disappointed, as I had hoped that I had found a local small business in my community that I could trust for the years to come. read more
